Teslagrad is a plat-former while not unique, it's a beautifully drawn and memorable experience. On the PS4 its fluent controls and ease of playing lures you in to the game until you hit the first boss, which is a nightmare, as is the 2nd. They are very very challenging, but there was enough going on beside the boss to make me pursue after 30 odd attempts and carry on the normal game mode.

If it wasn't on PS+ would I buy it? Probably not, but had I, I'd have been pleasantly surprised by a well thought out plat-form based game that has lovingly been drawn and crafted for this gen. Sure, it's going to make you scream come bosses, but that's followed by satisfaction when you finally do it!

Teslagrad starts off great with simple and relaxing platforming gradually getting more challenging. Over time, the puzzles become harder and harder. The puzzles never get too frustrating, but the bosses on the other hand are infuriatingly frustrating. Going through the same sequence over and over is just torture after awhile. Teslagrad is an interesting 2d puzzle-platformer that is held back by its imprecise controls and over reliance on trial and error gameplay that, all too often, leads to having to try sections (the boss fights in particular) over and over again.

Currently free on PS+ its worth giving a try but it has too many issues for me to wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone.

Just finished the game. It is pleasantly challenging, if you grew up having a super nintendo, with castlevania and super metroid, you will probably like this one too. The only thing that bothers me is that it is a bit short.

The creator of this game has a beautiful mind, and some serious sadistic tendencies. Ruthlessly hard, and mockingly unforgiving, but clever, fun and worthwhile.

Loses a point from me for the boss battle music grating as you die over and over again.

Another PS4 indie game. Surprisingly, this one is playable. That said, there are some wonky controls that make some of the puzzles into a test of your patience. You fail the same jump 15 times but you make it on the 16th and it appears you did nothing different.

Graphics are average but some of the gameplay is fun. Worth playing if you get it while it's free on PSN+. Otherwise, try

    Enjoyed this game very much.
Interesting way of story telling: you'll see pieces of the story played by puppets in a "theater chambers" while moving to the top of the tower. Do not expect something breathtaking though - just a typical platformer plot.

Teslagrad offers unusual game mechanics in its puzzle part. To move objects or even yourself you should choose one of two energy types (blue or red) which will charge the objects creating a magnetic field or a repellent effect - depends on how platforms in a chamber are charged.
Some puzzles are really challenging and so are every boss especially the final one.
About difficulty: it's not that easy. If compare Teslagrad with Steamworld Dig, the first one is much more difficult. So if you don't like dying a lot then stay away.
Art work is nothing special but looks good.
All in all this is a good platformer. It does not pretend to be unique, just wants to entertain you for some hours.

I thought this game is something familiar to Valiant Hearts, but it's just boring and frustraing in some places puzzle-platformer. Really mediacore game even no need to complete for platinum trophy.

So this means you must stay in this tiny sliver of area while moving on a conveyor belt with blocks coming down to push you. Oh and did i mention it ask all this but has floaty unresponsive movement and control of your character? So to give you a stupidly unfair fight with 1 hit kill and bad controls to do so....ultimate fail on all levels. Skip Expand

Excellent platformer. Charming and beautifully hand drawn environments. Challenging puzzles. The physics/controls can be a little tough to get used to throughout the game, but a player with a high platforming skill level may adapt quicker than I did. However, the environments are rich with imagery, alluding to the overall theme. You may do better with the narrative with a history degree or an interest in Nikola Tesla. Minor issues aside, this is a fantastic game and well worth the cost. I got myself a physical copy for the PS4, which I was happy to find since most indie titles are download only. I would ignore the users who gave this game an extremely low rating (looking at you fandango89). If you don't like small indie titles full of challenging puzzles and unique imagery, go play Call of Duty and don't review this game. What's the point of trashing a game from a genre you are not fond of? This is the same reason I would never review a Gears of War or GTA game. I'm sure they are great.. just not my thing. Expand

Beautiful little game that is probably too frustrating for me to finish. Teslagrad has a nice look. The animation looks perfect, straight of out the old hand drawn cartoon films of my youth. InBeautiful little game that is probably too frustrating for me to finish. Teslagrad has a nice look. The animation looks perfect, straight of out the old hand drawn cartoon films of my youth. Unfortunately, the game does not feel as good as it looks. The controls are squirmy and sometimes non-responsive. Back in the days of my youth, poor controls could be considered a hardware issue. In modern times, poor controls are a choice. The teleport in Teslagrad, for instance, barely responds to my button press. Many deaths resulted from dud teleports.

The poor response to controls are a shame because so many puzzles in the game require perfect button presses. The game is also poor at placing checkpoints. There are no lives, so each death resets you to the checkpoint. All seems fine until you reach the second boss and groan as you die on the third wave, knowing you will have to repeat the first two waves, again, and probably die during the second, again. Every special moment in this game is more than offset by every groan inducing death. My biggest gripe with this game is that it does not respect my time. There is nothing wrong with a nice tight, beautiful 1 or 2 hour experience. If Teslagrad was that kind of game, I would give it a 10/10.

The truth is, I'm on the 2nd to last boss battle. It's a gauntlet of lasers, lasers, and more lasers. You have to hope teleport works, ledge climbing works, and jumping and choosing the right polarity works. And it needs to work for about 15 minutes straight. I remember spending an hour on the last boss battle in Guacamelee. That battle seemed like a cake walk compared to Teslagrad. It's quite possible I will never finish Teslagrad and all I will know of the ending is the YouTube video I just saw.

I urge the developers to patch this game with a "playable by normal humans" mode. If they had made the game more playable at the outset, they wouldn't have had to resort to offering up Teslagrad as a Playstation Plus freebie. Even if my friends and family downloaded it for free, I hesitate to recommend this experience.

great way to spend your time it is not a very long game, but the game is pretty neat and it has several fun elements to it, not anything revolutionary, but not bad either

It is a beautiful indie with some challenge. Of course it's a good game! In an ordinary way, indies with challenges must be ugly as hell. Bosses, trophies - everithing is interesting to conquer and even a bit hard too. There is a pleasure to explore this very nice and cute game.

Honestly to all the people giving this game a negative rating because it's supposedly so difficult; GROW A PAIR. My 8 year old beat the first boss under 15 min of trying. I would suggest that you stay away from Dark Souls because that will make you pee you pants if you find this game "difficult"

This game is beautiful visually and the gameplay fun. It's a great puzzler.

Captivating history, beautiful graphics, intelligent mechanics and the desire to always want to play more and more to learn more about the game universe....this defines what Teslagrad is. A great indie game, and another great metroidvania for those who enjoy the style.

    • Steampunk movido a vapor!

You’ll need to refresh your 8-bit platformer skills to survive the tower in Teslagrad, but doing so is well-worth the effort.

If it had flawless platforming, reactive bosses, and a tighter difficulty curve, then we'd be head-over-heels for Teslagrad, but as it is, it's just a good little puzzle platformer that often frustrates. [Issue#253, p.66]
