A great little platformer game that might feel childish and it is great to play with kids but might also surprise adults if you let it. This game is quite unique in its aesthetic, being all made of paper I couldn’t but be amazed at how some of the environments looked. So graphically speaking I think it is superb, not because of its super-realistic HD graphics (which obviously this games doesn’t have) but because artistically speaking it is beautiful to see and very very unique. The gameplay, was nice but I think that is the right word, nice. It is a relaxing game, quite easy in my opinion, not particularly challenging and kind of slow to medium paced in most areas. I guess it all makes sense if you’re going to play it with children or something, although I found it enjoyable for an adult as well. A thing worth mentioning is that this game has some really really good ideas in terms of gameplay. It integrates the use of the movement sensor, touch pad and the light bar in some really original ways to, for example generate a wind gust or to move a spot light etc., some really interesting gameplay mechanics. The story is not particularly surprising; it is kind of like a fairy tale which goes well with the overall feeling of the game. Finally, there is quite an extensive an enjoyable creative side for this game, where you can draw/cut your own paper shapes to make stuff or to decorate your character; something that creative people will enjoy quite a bit together with the little kids at home.

Generally, I think there is some really great ideas for a platformer here, but I also feel that the game was more intended for a children audience, me as an adult I enjoyed this game quite a bit because of the original gameplay mechanics, but I also felt it stopped half way on the road to greatness. If you’re looking for a little nice game to play with children, this is definitely something worth getting, I think it would do an awesome job at that. If you’re thinking of getting it as an adult platformer gamer, be warned that although you might feel at times that is awesome (mainly because of art+ original game mechanics) you’ll probably finish the game thinking it could have been something awesome but in the end it wasn’t. The story might also feel a bit cheese or childish. Despite that, I think it is well worth getting as an adult for a fairly reduced price, just stay open minded and expect a bit of silliness and childish stuff.

This game is not perfect, it has a decent amount of blemishes from story to general gameplay, but wow I never played anything like it before, and the strengths of this game can make anyone overlook it's blemishes. I will start with it's weaknesses, the game to a lot can be a little too long; and I agree it does drag on, and to be honest the way the game is structured; it really could've ended when you finish each "chapter", and it indeed suprised me each time the game continued after each chapter ended, "Chapter 3 felt forced at first to me at first, but I quickly grew to realized it had the most amazing and unique level design in the whole game. The gameplay I loved, but to alot of people will be a turnoff, simple but really unique platforming, there are also no guns, mostly just throwing objects at enemies or using your light-bar for combat. Most of the side missions were unique, but half of it was very elementary; and ok, but sometimes a bland linear open world. Now I can't stop gushing at the positives for this game. It really literally utilizes every aspect of the controller, which I loved. The lightbar, motion control, touchpad (especially loved drawing) all formed a very fun and amazing experience I've never had before in gaming. Seeing your creation in the world is AMAZING, hearing your voice in the game is AMAZING!!! Wandering off course looking for secret boxes were fun. The platforming and gameplay really shines in chapter two and three, one of the most unique/fun platforming experiences I've ever had. The story was meh, but the ending to me was cute. To me, although it did seemed like chapter 1 was an huge tutorial, chapter 2 and 3 had amazing gameplay and platforming utilizing the ps4 controller. I also forgot to mention I love the papery world, it felt real and authentic, major points for creativity!!!To end, this is not an game for everyone (casual dude bro gamers), but for hardcore gamers and looking for something unique, this is an amazing experience. No one can play though this game and say it isn't cool, or an amazing experience. Expand

This game may be for a younger audience but I find it to be a breath of fresh air. The visuals, sound, game design and art style are all top notch. A 3D platformer with character that makes full use of all the ds4 controllers features and more. A true next gen game. Solid 8

Loved the game. I don't understand why people complain that it's too long. You're getting more game for your dollar. The story does get broken up because of it's length, but you ultimately play this game for the gameplay, not the story. Although the story isn't terrible.

Originally a Vita game, different features have been changed to reflect the features of the PS4. Its such a seamless transition that anyone who buys the game without prior knowledge will probably never consider the fact that this is a port. Tearaway is a long and memorable game that really gets you involved as you lose yourself in this one-of-a-kind experience.

Tearaway is a shared journey between "you" and the messenger Iota (or Atoi). The messager must reach the hole in the sky if he/she is to deliver his message to "you". Its your job to guide the messenger on their journey. It will be a grand adventure, one where you'll leave your mark everywhere you go. The ability to take pictures along the way lets you catalog your experiences to reflect back on at a later time. Use this feature to celebrate your victories as you help the different local creatures with their needs.

Tearaway is a platformer with a heavy emphasis on creativity. This becomes evident very early on as you're task with creating your own unique messenger. You buy different objects and facial features for decorating by collecting scraps found though out the game. You can even make your own designs which is necessary a different at key points throughout the game. It very rewarding to see the impact your creations have on the world and its inhabitants.

The gameplay is all about utilizing the features of the PS4 controller (just as the original game used the features of the Vita). In order to navigate though this world you'll use everything from the touch pad, to the sixaxis, to specific button manipulation. For example, the touch pad lets you draw objects and by tapping it your can help your messenger bounce around the levels. Other than that this is pretty much a semi-tradition platformer with a heavy emphasis on story-telling.

This three-dimensional platformer is quite a change of pace from Media Molecule side-scrolling Little Big Planet series. Its amazing how well they were able to transition to a very different style of gameplay. This is such a unique experience and its wonderfully executed. Platforming can sometimes get a little tough, especially towards the end. This a minor gripe in a game that is mostly pretty laid back and leaves the tougher challenges as optional quests. It seems like every time you feel it might come to an end you're thrown back into the world with new areas to explore. This helps make Tearaway a surprisingly long game. This is a cute and charming adventure game that players of all ages should be able to enjoy.

I sat down playing this game since Yesterday night till Today evening and I've spent 10 hours in total with it and there is still so much more to discover, create and find in this game. Cons:
-Full experience requires PS4 Eye, as well as a proper Second Screen device (PS Vita, tablet, etc) otherwise touch pad isn't 100% accurate
-Slight pacing issues with the story

This game is basically the PS4's equivalent to the PS2's Jak and Daxter: The Precursor's Legacy. It's only $40 for a full game experience and it's 100% worth it. It really re-enforces that 'Nintendo magic' where games are supposed to be fun and a form of art.

It is more a remake than a remaster and full of creativity. Everything that was awesome on the PS Vita is more awesome on the PS4. Its bigger, better and more creative in the way you can play. The Story is extremely heartwarming and you play the whole time with a big smile on your face.
When you're looking for an experience like the old days when you was a child than play Tearaway

And also try the PS Companion App. You can connect to the game directly and a friend next to you can draw some cool stuff with your smartphone and can bring it to your game asap.

When too much of a good thing becomes bad
Tearaway unfolded is the extended version of the original 3d platformer on vita that this time takes advantage of the ps4s controller…
While this game is insanely charming during the first 4 hours, it quickly turns into feeling like a gimmick..
This game is gorgeous and charming…
    You play as you..
literally you.. with a controller and everything
This game breaks the 4th wall from the start…
A giant hole is ripped in the sky that lets in these ugly newspaper scraps that take the color away from this papercrafter world..
And its up to you to help the messenger rid this world of scrap paper as well as deliver its message to you.
And to make this message even more yours, you get to customize your messenger in any way you can think of..
The game starts out so clever with you using the light on your ps4 controller to clean up the scraps
you have very little controller over the messenger at first
as you progress through the game you gradually gain more control and are able to jump…
swipe the touch pad to create wind in the game…
tilt the controller to effect platforms later on, and in one level the entire world…
but ultimately this quickly starts to feel like a controller demo rather than a game…
And this simply comes down to just trying way too much…
The game is constantly adding more to your plate when you have plenty of tools in using the light to clean the environment and battle the scraps…
Using the touchpad to create objects within the world for the main story and as sidequests adding an awesome layer of magic to the game…
seeing a character or item without color in the world and taking their picture to help them get it back…
All of the swiping and tilting added on later in the game is just too much…
They satisfy your appetite for something new and then force you to eat another plate before you can have desert…
The same can be found in the story itself..
it drags on way too long…
This is a 10 to 12 hour story depending on if you care to do side activities…
But bgy hour 4 I was ready for the credits to come.. and not because I was tired of the game.. but because it felt like it was time…
that the pacing has set up for this to be the end..
    wrong…
okay I forgive you.. the game is halfway over.. you give me another rollercoaster to go on..save my pet that I randomly met and have no connection to at all for another 4 hours..
    okay..
    im going to save him..
    This is the end..
im ready for the credits.. wow this was such a good game..
    Wrong..
not the end.. have just one more plate
this leaves what starts out to be you sitting down to eat a freshly bakes slice of pie and ends up being, a pie eating contest…
There are so many chapters that add nothing to the story..
I feel like they were just there to be there.. to add padding…
and again the same can be said for the swiping with the wind and tilting the controller…
with throwing objects into your controller to swipe them back out…
    it feels crammed and forced.
These things should have been saved for a sequel.
And next time, they should fold it back up…
WhileTearway Unfolded is one of the most charming platformers released in a while..
I feel like the need to add and stretch gives a bitter taste to what could have otherwise been a sweet experience.
    I give tearaway unfolded

Created by Media Molecule, the creators of the LittleBigPlanet series, the game is set in a paper world which has been invaded by small monsters called scraps, which spawn from a giant hole that's mysteriously appeared in the sky.
You have to choose between two cutely designed paper 'messengers': Iota (male) or Atoi (female). Their bodies are comprised of an envelope head, paper thin arms and legs and a cute backpack - the design is definitely one of my favourites. The game starts off with some questionable voice acting, before the player has to gain the trust of Iota/Atoi by pointing the DualShock 4 at the screen and using your Guiding Light to guide the character on-screen. The DualShock 4 is used for the majority of the game, luring scraps into traps, interacting with mechanisms and startling NPCs'!
The DualShock 4's touchpad can also be used as a canvas, and allows the player to draw things and implement them into the game, though sometimes it can be quite difficult!
The game has a beautiful art style, whose charm is difficult to find in modern games. The world is very interactive, allowing the player to utilise the DualShock 4 to draw things, perform tasks and much more. Additionally, there is so much side content such as creating papercraft structures and using the companion app/website, and the customisation allows you to customise your messenger however you wish using in-game currency - confetti. You can change everything from the colour of the character's body to it's selfie pose! That being said, there are some downsides. The voice acting is some of the worst I've seen, with the two talking 'guides' (one male and one female) having dreadful voices and hardly any expression in their voices. Additionally, some of the tasks like defeating scraps and performing tedious tasks such as throwing apples to activate mechanisms are a little repetitive. However, overall it's a great game and Media Molecule did a good job of porting the PS Vita game - this title definitely doesn't get the credit it deserves.

So THIS is where Media Molecule went after LittleBigPlanet 2. Here's where all the imagination LittleBigPlanet 3 threw in the garbage went.

Tearaway is a lovely little game that's imaginative, creative, and its papercraft styled world is gorgeous to look at. The environments and characters are literally two-dimensional, and the animations that everything has make everything look really pretty and all those things LittleBigPlanet used to be. The art style really does look handmade from paper and glue, and everything from the environment is based on this, including the sky, the sun and moon, and even water.

The game is centered around the idea that you yourself are the main character, guiding the character in game, named The Messenger, through the world. You are able to interact directly with the world around you, shining light with your lightbar, creating gusts of wind with a swipe of your trackpad, and even drawing new objects into the world. It's a neat concept that fully utilizes all the features of the PS4 controller to an amazing degree, and there are tricks and combinations you can pull off that make the game feel really involved. The game also takes the opportunity to get meta as f*** during the second act, really making you feel like you're an actual character in the story, and going so far as to boot you out into a papercraft version of the PS4's XMB and make you take out little minions crawling around on your screen. Just about everything about the game is imaginative and colorful and nothing less than what you'd expect from Media Molecule.

The problem is, the game ended three times before it actually ended. And I mean it actually ended, then the game came up with some bulls*** menial reason to keep padding it out. First time I was like "woah, okay, that's kinda cute, and the game really hasn't been that long anyway, so that's alright." Second time I went "wait, what? It's not over? We actually just beat the main villain in the game, how is this not over?" Third time around, I was literally screaming at my TV and telling the game to go f*** itself and just end like it should have. It ends up pulling bulls*** out of its ass three times just to pad out the game, and by the third time, any goodwill and charm the game had eroded away, and the only thing I could think during the latter chapters of the game was "when the hell is this going to end properly?" It wouldn't be so bad if the game didn't actually tell you to go f*** yourself three times and had a cohesive narrative with a start and end like LBP2 did, not a start then end then another start and another end then another start after that one and then finally a real end right after you do this stupid s*** nobody cares about. Padding and padding and padding and padding made me lose all the good feelings I had for the game, and I just wanted the thing to end. The ending sequence made a point to show you how far you've come and try to instill a moment of reflection in you and wants you to think back on how much you've done and everything you've created. The only thing I could think was "oh, yeah, I definitely liked how you punched me in the face three times and you just kept throwing stupid bulls*** at me for the last 5 hours. I LOVED that." We get it, Media Molecule. The Sixaxis control for the Dualshock 4 is cool. Stop padding the run time of this game out.

I also hate how the game will stop you constantly and force you to draw something with the touchpad or alter your character when I LIKE MY CHARACTER THE WAY HE IS. And then the game will go NOW TAKE A PICTURE, SLAVE. I don't want to, Christ. Stop stopping the entire game just to do some stupid s*** that I'm going to undo the instant I get control back.

As much as I love the concept of the game, and as charming and lovely and imaginative and all that the game is, the game should've been structured better. Looking at the credits sequence right now, all I can feel is "ugh, thank f*** it's finally over". I'm not left thinking and smiling like I was for LBP or LBP2. The narrative itself is pretty sound, it's just its structure that fumbled, and it really hurts the overall experience for me, despite how much love the game was made with. It's not even the length itself that's the problem, it's just the stupid menial things that the game does to artificially lengthen itself when the story ended three times before. If it was one cohesive narrative with one beginning and end, I wouldn't have even paid it any mention.

I REALLY wish I could sing this game's praises to the high heavens, but this is the Alien Isolation case, where the game should've ended long before it did, and as amazing as it was to start, all the bulls*** the game pulls just to artificially lengthen itself destroyed all goodwill and amazement I had for the game. Sorry, Media Molecule. I love you guys, but... ugh...

Though I loved Media Molecule's first franchise (Little Big Planet) RIP, Tearaway just to me was no where near as great as any of the LBP games, sorry im comparing them but I can't talk about MM without talking about LBP, I even enjoyed LBP 3 more then this and that was a disappointment though it was by Sumo Digital. Back to Tearaway Yes the graphics are very unique and sooooo original, And it's great that you can create alot of differnent things in the world of tearaway, like a characters fashion, to snowflakes, to a flame. The music is very nice I see MM took some music from LBP I recognized a few songs which was a nice touch, But the story isn't really interesting at all except for the end bit, i think only a child would enjoy this game really. The different Sceneries are really quite beautiful i was taking pictures all the time, and well their was only like 3 voice actors much like LBP which is fine i guess, The main issue i have with this game, is that it's way tooooo easy like no challenge at all ZERO!!!!!!!!! halfway through i just wanted it to all be over, and would be groaning when i thought it was done, but wasn't. This just wasn't for me, and I know a lot of people who really enjoyed this game, but i reccomend just getting it for the kids, or better yet get them any LittleBigPlanet game and play with them, because those games are amazing!!!!! My final score would have to be 6.5/10 Sorry Media Molecule, hopefully Dreams does a better job:) Expand

Super cute, Media Molecule always does charming games. The DualShock control can be wonky but at least they tried.

The characters like the squirrels are so endearing.

Sold after 5hrs. Such a horrendous and overrated game. The game is extremely tedious and the controls and the camera are horrendous. Not recommended at all unless you want a boring game

Sugar, spice, and everything nice. Tearaway Unfolded is one of the warmest video game experience I've ever had. It's remarkable to see a game that makes use of each of the PS4's unique features the way this one does. Motion controls, the touch pad, and other stuff I won't spoil for you. The game makes use of PS4 functions that most of other game's seem to not know exist. It's all tied to some clever challenges and top-notch platforming.

The real treat though is how the game tasks you with shaping it's world. You'll come across characters and events that require you to make objects that come to life right before you in game. Someone asks you to make some butterflies? Expect to see them flying around the world when you're done. Give someone a new face or name, and that's how they'll stay for the rest of the game. It's this sort of thing that makes Tearaway so special. You really feel like you're making your mark on the world in ways no other game has ever done. Sure, plenty of RPGs have you deciding outcomes by making the tough decisions, but how many games actually allow you to breath life into their world? Tearaway Unfolded is the only one that comes to mind for me.

It's not perfect though. For example, drawing on the controllers small touch pad makes it hard to really make something beautiful. There's also the rare glitch, one of which I encountered forced me to have to restart the game. For the most part though things are fantastic and the gameplay is immensely enjoyable, even when the camera decides to misbehave.

Give Tearaway Unfolded a shot. It's an incredible experience. One unlike anything else out there. It's brimming with heart, sweetness, and all around warmth and good spirit. Plus it's just all too rare to see a good 3rd person platformer out there. At least outside of a Nintendo system. It just so happens that this PS4 exclusive is one of the best. I have a hard time believing anyone could be too disappointed with this.

From the unique story to its creative gameplay, Tearaway Unfolded is truly one of the most varied games I've ever played. At its core is a simple platformer, which is effective and becomes more complex as the game goes on. The only troubles I had playing was with the camera and the ending. It doesn't seem to know when to end, but when it does it is heartwarming and worthwhile.

Tearaway Unfolded, like its mobile forebear, is an enchanting adventure. A bedrock of strong platforming mechanics supports a world that recalls The Wizard of Oz’s wide-eyed whimsy. Children will absolutely adore it, but even grown-up gamers with a taste for handcrafted, homespun style should follow the fold.

Serious gamers after a good mixture of challenge, story and mechanics may be left wanting. [Issue#167, p.79]

Sony made a great decision in bringing this charming IP to PS4. Just like the Vita version, Unfolded has the same great feel of utilizing the hardware in an interesting and fun way.
