Okay number one thing for me is fun to play. Yes many games have fancy graphics or deep rpg systems, but that just peaks my eye. It's like a pretty woman, her attractiveness gets you to talk to her but what she is on the inside and what she has to say determines whether you stick around.

Okay number one thing for me is fun to play. Yes many games have fancy graphics or deep rpg systems, but that just peaks my eye. It's like a pretty woman, her attractiveness gets you to talk to her but what she is on the inside and what she has to say determines whether you stick around.
And this game wants you to stick around. I got into the game for the sleak medieval hand painted (on a tablet) graphics, the cool little animal world, the brutal medieval setting, and the general description and reviews.
Whether or not that's a game for me depends on the gameplay and the gameplay loop. While it isn't the deepest RPG out there (in recommend the newly released and underrated Astria Ascending, which has a patch that fixes most of its issues now), this action adventure (not an rpg like I initially hoped for) has a lot going for it gameplay wise.
The "feel" of the game is immediate. There's some weight and jeft to it, but not too much (thank god). Like dark souls, and more specifically Salt and Sanctuary in the weight of the character and movement response.
But here's the kicker. Here's why you should by. Personally, I'm playing this a stonedypoo (lgl here). And I wanted a game that wasn't too hard to grasp, to pull off, but still with consequences, strategy and skill. You will die, but it's not a 3 hit game like dark souls, and you can heal quicker and easier, but it's still easy to get out of rhythm or pace and youll take some serious damage. Block, counter and dodge are the name of the game. And the graphics are bloody, sharp, and generally interesting. It feels heavy slightly but still fun. With a general equipment and upgrade system. Nothing too deep but not bad either. It's easy to grasp at least.
For 25 bucks i paid full price. I'm glad I did. Especially when it's cheap I like to give the developer the full cost to support them, although I do try to buy all my games on sale a few months after they are out and patched. But some are so cheap and I think I'll like do buy "new". That's the best way to vote for a sequel, which I want. This and darkest dungeon 2 please.

A 2D game focused on combat with a great art style and atmoaphere sometimes similar to The Darkest Dangeon. The movement as well as the combat system is satisfying and fun. After completing all the boss fights and story, you can feel like a real king.

Ultimately, Tails of Iron is a pleasant surprise. The game’s darker tone and not inconsiderable challenge made it a far more engaging title than its “Animal Kingdom” plot might at first brush suggest. While exploration is fun enough, it’s the combat system that is the real standout here, simple enough to be quickly learned but intricate enough to provide plenty of variety, particularly during the fun boss fights. With fine presentation values to boot, it’s an enjoyable overall package that’s easy to recommend.

I’ve reviewed a fair whack of games so far in 2021 and Tails of Iron is easily the best of the bunch. Addictively deadly difficult combat, a wonderful game world to explore and a compelling story all add up to having a very good time indeed. At the end of the game, Odd Bug Studios tease a sequel, to which I say ‘Yes please!’ as this is easily the best Rat ‘em up I’ve ever played.

While it may not wholly lean in on its RPG roots enough, Tails of Iron is an indie to squeak about. Its combat is punchy, and the charm of its striking art style is nigh-undeniable. Odd Bug Studio seemingly includes a tease for a follow-up at the game’s end, so I hope Tails of Iron does not end up underrated—it deserves a sequel.
