Oh Surgeon Simulator (2013). The purposely difficult simulator of surgery many have grown to love. Both the iPad and PC versions have been a success and now, we have the Anniversary Edition on PS4. To rotate the hand you move the controller, to move the hand about you use the right directional pad. Now rotating the controller, I can tell, has made people think about your sudden movements while playing. But that is the point, Surgeon Simulator is famous for many reasons and one of those reasons is the controls. It makes the game challenging and can make you laugh when the slightest twitch will cause the drill you are holding to possibly get stuck in the middle of Bob's organs (Bob is the patient) while still on. Bottom line, I would recommend this game. 9/10 Expand

You don't get a score any higher than 2/10 when the controls are so bad that it makes the game unplayable. And this is for PS4??!!! Good grief... For a "simulator" this guy has got to be the worst surgeon on the planet.

The controls are LAUGHABLE. Everything is unbelievably accurate - from picking up instruments, to actually using them. Your hand usually gets in the way of your view so you never have a clue what you're actually cutting at. They could have fixed this by making the hand transparent, but nope! They don't offer the option to invert the right thumbstick. Good luck pulling half of the organs & bones out of the patients with the horrible controls! Besides how ridiculous it is to simply pick up utensils/organs, you can't even properly use half of them - Scissors? Nope. Markers? Nope.Tweezers? Nope. On/off switch for power tools? Nope. And good luck once you don't properly place a tool back down onto the table with pinpoint accuracy & precision - you'll never be able to pick it up again!

Any game from the Trauma Center series for the Wii puts this game to shame. You don't even get to cut open your own patients - they come pre cut open and all you have to do is wave some flailing utensils around inside them until you either fail the mission or somehow actually manage to cut the right organs. As far as PS4 games go, this is a joke. It's a shame too because games like this can actually be really cool if they're done correctly.

This game is frustrating, old and nearly pointless. Yet there are barriers to stop it from going completely of the rails and into being completely unplayable. This is fun but I don't recommend trying to complete at least one section of the game in one sitting. The phrase "practice makes perfect" could not define this game better. Everything will need to be practiced once to get a taste of it and then move on for completion. You play as a famous surgeon who can't even write his own name properly, who must perform various transplants in different settings. From heart transplant in hospital, to kidney transplant in a corridor, to even an eye transplant in space. This will assure that you will never be bored and yet challenged. As I said before don't try this in one sitting. Pace yourself. Even play co-op so you can have two hands to control, it could be fun. Only recommended if your looking for something to kill time for a big hot triple A release. Expand

I love this game! Yes, the controls are difficult, to say the least. Yes, it's got bugs. Yes, the sheer giggle factor does tend to fade (when you're playing alone. With friends it's still a riot).

But difficult "simulation-like" controls resulting in epic failure many times is a formula that has worked in the past. Another reviewer said giving Surgeon Simulator easier more precise

But difficult "simulation-like" controls resulting in epic failure many times is a formula that has worked in the past. Another reviewer said giving Surgeon Simulator easier more precise controls "would be like giving QWOP duel thumbstick controls". Pointless. Even EA's Skate (with its controls that are admittedly just as precise as they are confusing and difficult to use) has it's Hall of Meat for when you crash hard (which is inevitable). However given enough time and practice, you will find that it's not so hard to control. This leads to many fist-raising "f*** yeah!" victory moments of accomplishment.

Add in the fact that there are little easter eggs EVERYWHERE and you've got a hit in my book.

P.S. I would also like to take this time to tell everyone to stop blindly buying games because of its name or a screenshot. Of course Surgeon Simulator isn't actually a simulator, but if you had taken 2 seconds to learn about a game you're going to buy first, you would have known that. Don't give a game a bad score because it didn't turn out to be the type of game you thought it was. That's like saying "This poker game sucks! All you do is look at cards!" or "I hate Call of Duty... I never got called!"

How can a game that is so fun to watch online and laugh, be so impossibly bad to play? Not is this game so bad and boring to play, it's completely pointless and a time waster. This is a watch online rating.

I know it's meant to have bad controls and all, but it's just too much. It takes the fun out of it. I'm not sure it would be easier with a mouse and keyboard, but I just find it to be more frustrating than fun. So I agree with some of the critic reviews of this game.

Controls are bad? The controls are the same on PC. It's what made the game. It's suppose to be hard to control, clumsy, and annoying. It's not perfect, but it is enjoyable for what it has to offer. I wouldn't pay more than $7.99 for it tho. So, have a couple of bewskys with a friend and try to save a life! LOL.

Good for a solid few hours of laughter but once you decide beating the levels sounds like fun, you'll meet your demise. Part of the fun in Surgeon Simulator's gameplay is the clunky controls but on the PS4 they are absolutely awful. It makes the game unplayable when attempting to play seriously.

Frustrating to play alone, but a lot of fun to play with a friend.
If you don't have a sense of humor, do not buy it.
The game is challenging more than frustrating, but when game becomes too challenging it becomes very frustrating.

Yep, they did it. They made this. Still frustrating, maybe even a bit more. You can still flip Bob the Bird. The Space Double Kidney Transplant is impossible without an extra controller. Yet, it is addicting

It's supposed to be hard, frustrating, and pointless... That's what makes it so fun. The game plays as it is intended, it's just not for everyone. There is no real point to the game except for some ridiculous laughs and killing the patient in ever more imaginative ways.

I've been gaming for the better part of my life. This game wins hand down the award of worst control i have ever encountered...by a mile. It is supposed to be a joke and we are supposed to be having fun. But it's neither funny nor any fun at all. I made an account just to rate this a zero. I got this on a flash sale and i still feel robbed. This game is not difficult; it is broken.

So in short, the PS4 edition has a lot of bugs that ruin the experience of playing this game. Expand

This is the kind of game you either instantly fall in love with or stare at in amazement. Surgeon Simulator A&E is a great port of the original title and brings more good new features than bad.

It isn't a game for everyone, especially those who demand tight controls and realistic simulation titles or Trauma Center, but if you can deal with the silliness of it all, you'll find Surgeon Simulator to be enjoyable enough.
