While in it's core this game has this nice and simple idea that gamifies the experience of communication itself and provides it's player with some interesting insights into how we talk — it is just happens to be incredibly boring. Slow paced mediocre dialogues with only music to enjoy.

Gameplay itself seems somewhat fun at the beginning, but right when you expect it to become somewhat skill-based it becomes 100% luck based.

Nice music, interesting idea. Everything else is just too raw.

Signs Of The Sojourner is a compelling adventure that explores loss, healing, and the intimacy of conversations, wonderfully gamifying interaction. [Issue#187, p.89]

Signs of the Sojourner presents itself as a contemporary art piece, where the truth and the beauty are in the eye of the beholder. It is carefully put together, it conveys a series of messages and it is based on an original concept. Unfortunately, it fails to create harmony between the gameplay and the story, so the result feels fractured. The story is too slow, the card play is not engaging enough, and the gap between the two elements is never actually bridged. Signs of the Sojourner remains a bizarre experiment, that had potential, but where the artists stumbled being tripped by their own feet.

There are some parts that don't quite work. A fatigue system discourages you from prolonged excursions and can make things tricky, and the limited number of cards means you're rarely fully prepared to speak with everyone. Overall, though, we'd say it's a successful experiment, and a breath of fresh air among all the usual noise.
