This is all part of the DNA of the series. And after the spin-off of water guns (Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash), here comes Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal for PlayStation 4 and for PC. Note that this game is a remake of Senran Kagura: Skirting Shadows and Senran Kagura Burst (Director's Cut of Skirting Shadows) that came out for Nintendo 3DS.

The story is ok. Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal is a Musou, which means that most missions are 1 vs "N" of enemies. It's easy to pick up and get used to the game, be it attacking, running, jumping, executing techniques, defending and parrying. Pure and hard action along with the 60 FPS that the game commands. This despite the game camera, as in the Estival Versus, is a bit annoying, especially when we are leaning against some wall. And we also have 1 vs 1 matches. In Senran Kagura: Estival Versus we had Multiplayer with Free for all battles, Capture-The-Bra and Understorm, but strange as it may seem, Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal don't have Multiplayer. When we deal damage to the opponent in a 1-on-1 match, in a matter of time, the clothes get ripped to the full strip. The character is naked and the intimate parts of it... are covered by an intense brightness.

All 12 characters have different moves and weapons from each other. All 12 characters have different moves and weapons from each other. All characters have these 3 styles: Flash Style (normal), Yang Style (Post transformation "Shinobi") and Yin Style (Frantic). Initially, during the missions we only have two options: Flash Style or Yin Style. In Frantic mode, it's true that we take greater damage, but it also increases power and our combos become infinite. As we evolve styles and character, we gain new combos (Flash and Yang) and get new abilities (Yin and Yang).

As in Estival versus, our character can do "Shinobi" transformation. I put it in quotation marks because let's just say... almost all the characters don't wear Shinobi clothes. When we make the transformation, we have a better moveset compared to Flash Style, the attack becomes slightly more powerful and our life bar is regenerated to the maximum point. In both Yin and Yang, we can use the techniques Secret Ninja Arts and the Ultimate Secret Ninja Arts. During our missions, we can pick up Secret Files (collectibles), Health Items and Secret Growth Medicine. Regarding the latter, these can be used to level up our female characters.

Speaking about main missions, basically the objective is only 1 vs 100 and 1 vs 1. The excess of repetitiveness is so much that the user ends up having enough of the game sooner or later if he have little or no patience. When we complete the main quests or free missions, we earn experience points, earn money, can be used in the Shop (to get clothes, music, etc.) and most of the time in the main missions, we unlock Free Missions that don't pass of... more of the same. We also have the Training Grounds to train our skills.

And unsurprisingly, we have a Dressing Room, where we can change the clothes (before transformation and put transformation) of our characters, as well as Lingerie or hair and add accessories for our character. We also have the Diorama mode where we can take pictures with our favorite characters in several different ways. Where is the Intimacy Mode which we had on Estival Versus and Peach Beach Splash for example? It was withdrawn at 100%. Because of the new policies of Sony (NA/ EU). And this happened well before the game's release date was announced. For those who don't know what this mode is, Intimacy mode allows us to interact (in many different ways) with the character through the virtual hands in order to get a response from that same character. Yes, I know this sounds strange, especially with the "adult-child" characters.

Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal uses the same graphic engine as Estival Versus and Peach Beach Splash. Apart from the designs of some of the arenas that could have been better treated, they visually comply. Characters graphically well treated without counting the gelatinous movements of their breasts. Speaking of the soundtrack, taking out one or another good song, the rest is just acceptable. Overall, Senran Kagura Burst Re: Newal can be fun for a while and have positive things, but compared to Estival Versus, it has suffered several cuts in terms of "salt" to hold me in the game even more. Instead of evolving, it simply regressed. And some of the problems present in Estival Versus (the camera and the design of the arenas) are still included in this Burst Re: Newal. You want a good Senran Kagura? Choose Peach Beach Splash. Want a good action game Senran Kagura? Choose Estival Versus. The Burst Re: Newal is below these two.

I personally don't care one way or another about the mode that was removed; however I do care about paying more for less content. I don't care what that content is, It is not a definitive edition if you take stuff out of a game. A definitive edition should have more content, not less. Censored trash, thanks Sony... Avoid and buy the pc version if you can. The PS4 version has modes/features removed in order to pander to Sony's demands, it's still Xseed's fault.

Please go the change.org and search for sony censorship petition. Sign the petition and donate if you can! Sony needs to remain the best place for JRPGS! We are grown adults and can make our own decisions. Something is wrong when Nintendo is more lax on censorship!

If it weren't for Sony's meddling, I'd give this a 9 or 10. i have quite a few hours in the japanese version of burst renewal and can say it has been slightly altered but not much.it still has the intimacy mode and other features.the downside is that the game is painstakingly short and that there is no separate story for the dlc characters that you get.

The game is fun, I don't understand the negativity behind this. It has all the game play of the previous games and nothing feels missing. If you liked Estival Versus and Shinovi Versus, this game will be your cup of tea. The combat is extremely similar, the story is more cohesive than the more recent games as well. The re mixing of the combat to the newer style as opposed to the 2D brawling of the first game is a nice touch to making a re mastering, as opposed to just porting the game, it gives you a reason to pick this up, even if you own the original. Also, the special editions are extremely generous with the goodies for a cheap price! If you're as big of a Senran fan as I am, this isn't one to miss!

At first, I was not happy with the removal of Intimacy Mode because of Sony. But after I played through a few chapters of the Hanzo National Academy arc, I didn't really mind the censoring. I think it's still a great game with many waifus.

Good game. The only problem is that Estival Versus exists and is better in almost every way.

Unfortunately, there's very little new with the Burst Re:Newal installment. It's primary new feature is its retelling of the original Senran Kagura story. In addition, we get a higher resolution for PS4 Pro, the game seems to be better optimized (higher framerates), and there's various minor gamelay tweaks that makes controlling your character and learning moves easier.

Besides that, it's an exact copy of Estival Versus, but with less stuff. Less characters, less costumes and underwear (primarily due to having less characters). No team-based battles, and no multiplayer/online options at all (so no online character posing contest like in Estival Versus). And of course, no character-fondling mechanics, since the censors decided that was no longer appropriate for mature adults.

The story differences are worthwhile to point out. Burst Re:Newal actually tries to be serious with its generic plot line. That's good if you want to learn more about these characters and their origins. While on the other hand Estival Versus is overly perverse and excels at giving the target audience more of what they want (girls doing perverted things) while not adequately explaining the backgrounds of its large cast.

Unlocking costume and underwear mechanics are disappointing. Most costumes and accessories are available to buy immediately and others just become available to buy after beating certain missions. There's secret documents to find and collect, but they serve no unlockable-item purpose.

Oh, but you can get many of the Estival Versus characters and costumes in the game, but be prepared to shell out more than the price of the game itself in DLC. Or just buy Estival Versus.

Overall, I had a good time with the game for a few days, going through all of the missions. I felt like I was playing Estival Versus all over again. But there's only so many times I can play what's basically the same game before getting tired of it, no matter how many breasts and asses it throws at me.

If you think this is only a brawler game with hot chicks in sexy customs, well think again it's more than that. The game mechanics are easy to master for some characters but a pain for others, so playing with your fav girl may take you a while to play decently. Another thing is that I wish there were an extra level of difficulty in the game, once you have levelled up your characters to a decent level the game turns out really easy.

The music is sticky and fun to listen and every character has its own theme which is really cool.

This is my first brawler game I loved it and I had a lot of fun playing it, so I'm almost certain you will have fun or will love it too.

I have mixed feelings about this game, basically it brings to PS4 two missing entries of the series, one being completely redone from 2D to 3D and using the same engine that the last PS4 entries of the franchise, that is really great and much appreciated.

The issue is that it comes some years after the awesome Estival Versus and it has fewer scenarios, smaller ones, half of our beloved shinobis and some mechanics are not present (e.g. creative finishers).
On the positive side the 3D combat brawler feels really good (60 fps) and gives us a lot of background about the waifus and their motivation. It also has a ton of missions (more than 90) with a lot of art to unlock and costumes to purchase in game with the game currency.
The voice acting and the Shinobi designs are as good as always, the only thing that really bothers me was the camera on small scenarios, it collides against the walls making you lose the combat flow. Also I think there are too many Hibari missions on the Hanzo arc and she is not a very funny playable character due her moveset.
I personally did not miss the intimacy mode absurdly censored by the new puritan Sony but I can understand the rage about it.
To conclude, this game is the best possible entry point to Senran Kagura on PS4 with an easy plat too, but if you plan only to play 1 Senran Kagura game, then skip this one and buy directly the Estival Versus.

Your enjoyment of Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal is going to be dependent on how much you value the lore of the series. As this contains both the early wacky adventures and introspections of each of the shinobi, fans of the characters will love the treatment. Otherwise, the combat holds up, even without the use of items and combo moves. Although the other modes are filler, the presentation looks and sounds excellent. If you're a fan of the series but didn't play this game on the 3DS, Burst Re:Newal is worth checking out.

Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal plays it safe with the series' established formula, which is ironic considering these titles are anything but safe. The series has always stuck to its roots and embraced the perverseness that in equal measures repels and attracts gamers, and this entry does little but remind the gaming world that these games exist. Aside from Burst Re:Newal being a ground-up remake, there's surprisingly few innovations to take the series into uncharted territory, but the combat is nevertheless enjoyable, and the story interesting enough to just about support the weaker points of the experience.
