Surprisingly this is the best port by far of Resident Evil 4. I have played from chapter 1 to 3 and so far I have encountered no bugs and little to no fps drops. The textures look great in their 1080p format so you can expect a very smooth and pretty port from Capcom. Great Job Capcom!!

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best in the series. I remember playing it on ps2 and i loved it and it became one of my all time favorite games i then recently picked it op for ps4 and instantly remembered why i liked it so much in the first place. The game still has all its perks from the ps2 version but with better graphics. It's a classic game with better visuals what more could you wish for.

It's great to have this game in all it's glory ported to the next gen. While the graphics from the GameCube port are still the victor the game is still the genuine classic as it always will be. It's a great honor to be returning to this pure action / horror title.

I find these new enemies much more scarier than the previous zombies. This game also ditched the 3rd person tank controls and replaced it with an over the shoulder shooter experience. Back in 2005 Resident Evil 4 was the first game to ever do this. Gunplay is amazing and you can really feel the impact from the guns you will be using from the classic pistol and shotgun to the explosive rocket launcher and grenades. The boss fights, a series staple, return here but better than ever and each fight is intense and memorable. The game is very well paced one minute you will be fighting for your life in a creepy village full of crazies to racing through a mine trying to keep balance as monsters attacked you from all sides. The game is also chock full of funny cheesy B movie dialogue that will be sure to bring a grin to your face. The graphics have also aged very well by keeping that stylish Resident Evil look. The only complaint I can make for this thrilling experience is the lackluster ending and slightly clunky controls compared to today's standards. The game is so great. The cutscenes are amazing, the characters are mega cool, the locations are so unique and different. The puzzles are good. The story is captivating. The only downside I can think of is the controls(ps4). The character can't move sideways, instead the camera rotates, but you get used to it.

I can explain this by an example: You have 50 bullets in a shotgun but you can't wait for your enemies to come at you so you can mow them down one by one, This is because every enemy that you encounter can be a threat to you.It allows you to use a series of weapons and upgrade them as well as buy equipment from merchants scattered across the map. To combat enemies you need to pick a target and aim at them and use bullets carefully, It expects you to decide which enemy you should kill first (recommended the strongest) In order to succeed but combat is fun and in Resident Evil you'll need to be careful, stealthy and just plain lucky sometimes in order to avoid a tragic end. The story is a bit far-fetched but the game makes it that it works and the tone of horror and seriousness if never dropped even if they throw in some jokes and stereotypes time and time. The tone of the game is horror and the game does a good job into convincing me that I am in danger. Sometimes you will hear creepy noises like crowing birds or the sound of a chainsaw being cranked. The visuals are impressive as well such as dark stormy weather, unimaginable horrific mutant creatures and interactions with the environment that disturbs me; While steal hanging on to it's PS2-like feel and sound effects! In the end you have a solid PS2-port that not only satisfies but delivers more than the original. I can safely comepare Resident Evil 4 to the atmosphere of another great game: The Last of Us. Although the shooting may be a turn-off to some gamers and you occasionally encounter a glitch or an unattractively generated graphic. The game also does a poor job of explaining where you are supposed to go and how you are suppose to get there. However this does not take away from the games appeal and uniqueness that separates it from other games. I would say this is a must play experience because it delivers enjoyable game play for an 11 year old game and allows you to once again play this work of art and classic Expand

Just not fun to play any more and gaming has moved on from this outmoded style a play a long time ago. Visuals don't hold up to well either sad to say.

The game definitely doesn't meet expectations, the controls are confusing and the levels require gameplay techniques and a lot of attention that turn the game into something exhausting. I can see why this game is highly regarded because it's full of surprises, hidden things and fairly deep gameplay; Although this is a "action" game the player will need to think about the best weapons and strategy to use for each situation if they are going to survive. I also understand RE4 is quite influential and introduced the "over the shoulder" camera angle.
However, despite all of that RE4 has also aged badly in some ways. The tank like controls and inability to move while shooting just aren't fun in 2017. Also ther's far too many annoying quick time events and ill conceived difficulty spikes.
Ultimately RE4 is a game that's as frustrating as it is fun but seems to get a free pass for it's faults from fan boys and critics. Anyone giving this a 10 or 9 in 2017 should be ashamed of themselves. It's good but far from the best action game ever.

The game blends action with survival so well that it effortlessly shifts you from feeling a badass to being vary of every bullet used. At first not being able to move and shoot felt archaic but if you can get over it the feeling of tension created when deciding to move or shoot adds to the atmosphere. While the game mainly consists of exploring solving basic puzzles and dealing with the many creatures that get in your way, the game avoids tedium by giving you many different scenarios, set pieces and boss fights keeps the game feeling fresh throughout its entirety. The mystery and intrique is a mainstay of the resident evil series and resident evil 4 continues this trend by giving you many questions to answer near the beginning and by the end all of these questions will be answered in a satisfying way. The campaign is far longer than the other RE games I've played, but it never gets stale through the variety mentioned above as well as the traditional resie experience. The campaign consists of five chapters that are broken into stage sections. The game takes the RE3 approach of having multiple areas instead of one big area like RE1 and RE2 but unlike in RE3 you spend such a long time in each area that they all create their own identity and are at least half as big as previous games main areas. This allows the game to give you variety in setting but also supply enough depth in each area to make them memorable. The story and characters are also a highlight as wise cracking Leon bounces off every other character brilliantly with smartass quips and other characters enrich the world and returning characters make us wonder what is really going down here. At times you have to escort the president's daughter which sounds like it would be an horrible escort mission. But it's actually not. you have enough control over her to keep her out of trouble and her inclusion allows for unique set pieces to occur making her inclusion a beneficial one. The game also has side content including a side campaign that shows one recurring characters perspective throughout the game as well as a arcade like mode where the objective is to get as many points as possible by killing enemies. This game definitely leans into the action genre but does not forget it's roots and brings them along for the ride creating for me the tied best RE experience so far and one of the greatest games of all time. Resident Evil 4 is just has good has the previous games, one thing I like is that Capcom have gone in a new direction for this game by getting rid of the camera change style and instead having the game camera right behind Leon, the aiming has changed so that you can now aim in any direction. The locations are just as atmospheric as the previous games and the cut scenes are fantastic to look at. Another new thing about this game is that you are no longer fighting Zombies and Mutants crated by the T-Virus but instead people that have been taken over by Parasites called the Las Plagas.

The game is set some years after the Racoon City incident and Leon S Kennedy is no longer a rookie cop but a agent working for the government, his assignment is to go to Europe and enter a small village near by where the President's kidnapped daughter Ashley may be, when Leon encounters one of the villagers he tries to kill him so after killing the villager more show up wanting to kill Leon, going through the village Leon discovers that something is not right with these people and after find a man named Luis and being knocked by the head of the village he wakes up tied up to Luis then after breaking out Leon continues searching for Ashley and once he finds Ashley in their church he discovers that they are both carriers, since they injected the Parasites eggs into them so then they not only do they have to escape from here but need a way to stop the Parasites before they take control of them and they become like the villagers.

I'm not going to give out anymore of the games plot over wise it will ruin the fun. Resident Evil 4 is a great entry to the franchise and is definitely worth playing. 10/10

A lengthy main story mode (which btw, great story), Assigment Ada, which was a secondary story mode (as expected, shorter than the main story), in which you would play as Ada, the Mercenaries mode which being something fresh at the moment gave me thousands of hours of entertainment till I unlocked everything and how not to forget the various difficulty modes which extend the main story's duration.

I really loved the mechanics and enemies. I know it's the same game, but hey, I still like it and bought it! 10/10

It's slightly clunky, and Ashley can get a bit annoying sometimes, but RE4 is still fantastic. It has a funny charm and great combat that makes the game even more intense and fun.

Resident Evil 4 is one of the best and most influential action games of all time.

This is the game that ended the classic survival horror era of the first Resident Evil entries. From RE4 onwards, no RE main entry would return to its survival horror roots until RE7, meanwhile Capcom released a bunch of spin-offs such as Revelations but still they never embraced survival horror.

RE4 isn't really a Resident Evil game. Horror gets tossed outta the window and it's more of an action shooter game with a focus on survival. Tank controls still exist in how you move and aim, it's a 3rd person perspective instead of fixed camera angles. There is even a merchant from whom you can buy upgrades and ammo. The enemies are not zombies but mutated humans, they are slow but also carry weapons and often transform into monstrosities. Even the (nonsensical) story has nothing to do with Resident Evil lore, RE4 could easily have been named something else and no one would complain.

But RE4 is still a great game from 2005, even though its admittedly clunky controls and outdated gameplay haven't aged well compared to 2019 standards, it requires some getting to grips with. Enemies can be shot in different points and react differently. You escort Ashley and have to shield her. You survive countless challenging encounters (the introductory fight "welcomes" the players before they even get to grips with the game). The innovative over the shoulder camera later became a staple of games such as Gears of War and many other 3rd person action/shooter games. And the various boss fights are mostly good. Surely RE4 has plenty of "meat", it took me roughly 20 hours to beat it. Some of it was great, some of it was meh, but overall it was good.

On PS4, RE4 runs at 60 fps, but there is some noticeable aliasing around ground textures. Thankfully it's no big problem, but I wish Capcom had worked a bit more on this port.

RE4 is still one of the best games of its generation, but if you haven't played games from that era before you'll be instantly annoyed by the clunky controls and the lack of auto save. It's fine to play on PS4 and even other consoles and PC, but I wish someday Capcom release a true remake of RE4 instead of just another lazy port to the next generation PS5 console. Hopefully now that Capcom are on a good roll and released the RE2 remake, they will keep remaking the old games.

And I'm happy to say it's every bit as good, if not better than I remembered. I think I actually like it more now than I did when it was initially released. There's a reason it's been re-released on pretty much every console since its creation, and that's because it's an absolute masterpiece that revolutionized video games, specifically third-person shooters. I'll admit, it's not usually scary per say, but it's almost always eerie, and there is a persisting sense of danger outside of the save areas. The atmosphere is constantly dreary, and the game never keeps you in one location too long with needlessly complicated puzzles and backtracking that were prominent in the prior titles in the series. You're always moving from one awesomely designed location to another with varying enemies, which help keep things fresh on your very long, but enjoyable journey. Just when you think you've learned a certain enemy's pattern and begin to feel comfortable, the game throws a new foe at you that attacks you in a completely new way. The game is challenging without being outright frustrating, and the difficulty perfectly inclines as you progress. Mechanically, Resident Evil 4 moves at a slow, methodical pace. But that's part of its charm. Aiming is rather slow, you can't strafe, and the inventory must be opened to change your weapon. But I don't mind any of that at all. It's certainly the most dated part of the game, but it surprisingly works in Resident Evil 4's favor, On a technical level, the game was the pinnacle of it's time. Graphically, it was unmatched on consoles, and the sound and music was, and still is top notch. Although there are a lot of muddy textures, overall the game looks great on the PS4, considering nothing has been touched up, just ported to hi-def. The story, in classic Resident Evil fashion, has a thick narrative, punctuated with many twists and turns. But I find it less convoluted than most of the other entries in the franchise. Even after 12 years, there were some climactic, and iconic moments I hadn't forgotten that are still as amazing today as they were on the Gamecube. Resident Evil 4 has, and will forever stand the test of time. This is truly one of the best slices of gaming that has, and will ever exist. Resident Evil 4 is one of the few absolute must-have titles for anyone who considers themselves a gamer. Expand

    Gameplay:
This is the game's most appealing aspect. it does take an hour or so to get used to the camera controls, but as the player gets used to the controls, gets better weapons and discovers new tricks on how to dispatch enemies more effectively, the game keeps up with the player by keeping things fresh and challenging throughout the 16hour campaign. The pace of the game and the variety of enemies along with the interesting situations the player finds himself in plays a key part in keeping the player engaged throughout the experience.
The weapons are another key element that makes this game excellent. There are plenty of weapons and weapon upgrades, and it's up to the player to choose which weapons to buy and upgrade. None of the weapons are really necessary to beat the game but the player will likely end up buying one of every type(a handgun, a shotgun etc.)
By beating the game the player unlocks a new mode and a new gun (will keep this a secret!) with infinite ammo.
There are also 2 extra campaigns that come along with this version that tell the story from a different character's perspective.
Needless to say, this is a lot of value for $20 if you haven't played this game yet.

    Story:
Cheesy fun with creepiness and humor, not the highlight of the game but adds positively to the experience.

    Graphics:
it's what you expect from a game from the gamecube/ps2 era, however, the art and character models hold up very well.

The storyline, like every other game, was really good. Hunting down and saving the presidents daughter. Fighting your way through a new addition to the zombies. A new plague. Using headshots, only to have their heads explode, making them significantly harder!
The change in gameplay made this game much easier for the combat aspect. Being able to see where you're shooting, and aim your gun. Killing zombies became much easier with this new style.
And like all resident evils, the puzzles were still there, making you think to proceed forward. For the longest time, this was my favorite Resident Evil game. It was a hard pick between 3 and 4.

Graphics have taken a slight hit, cleaner but the jaggies have been highlighted due to the HD job so if you are picky on ps2 era graphics been highlighted this may be an issue, another problem is a glitch that despite all this time ALL versions of the HD remaster (even the recent switch version) is an aiming glitch which can be detrimental if not disabled right away (shoot an explosive and your hands go crazy making fine aiming difficult, only way to shut it off is to do the same action again and if nothing to pop is about it will affect fine aim).

Great game! First time playing a Resident Evil game and I love it. Atmosphere and music is awesome. Very scary. Going to play others.

So far the best port of RE4 and the last canon RE game in the series. Everything after 4 is a cashgrab a joke of once legendary series.

First, Lets start with the pros

    - Somewhat good story line - Cool main Character Now for the cons: - ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GAME PLAY MECHANICS. for example: - rotating screen is non-functional - head shots only work 40% of the time - can't move when wielding A KNIFE - Aiming is also non-functional - Movement is only about half-functional Now back to the rest of the cons -

    Now for the cons:

    - ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE GAME PLAY MECHANICS.
    for example:

    - can't move when wielding A KNIFE
    - Aiming is also non-functional
    - Movement is only about half-functional
Now back to the rest of the cons
    - Basic enemies are dumb and extremely repetitive
    - You die at completely unrealistic times
    - Shooting enemies from afar DOES NOT WORK
    - Middle of combat random cut scenes
Oh, and did I mention that you CAN'T move with a KNIFE in hand
and that rotating the camera with the right stick is HORRIBLE and USELESS

Come on guys. If you reviewed this with anything higher than a 4 you are lying to yourself.
Don't let nostalgia cover your mind up of it being a next to unplayable ported game.

Résident evil 4 . Was and still my best game of all time . And frankly is the best game for alot of people in the community . Re4 redefined the horror genre . For a game that was made in 2005 it' still holds out with the giants of the genre today .

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. The best thing about re4 is that it’s never boring. There’s always a new enemy type, a random quip from Leon, a ridiculous action set piece riddled with QTE’s or a sudden villain appearance just around the corner. Even if you’ve never played this game up until now, just like me, I have to recommend it to everyone that loves fast paced and creative shooters with a comedy/horror twist. Expand

Very entertaining and well paced RE title. It’s not as scary as the previous games and RE 7 forward but it still maintains the feeling of isolation and overwhelming odds that works so well for the series. Unfortunately, RE 5 and 6 copied this game without understanding why it worked so well.

The game is great

Story:nothing special Character's:leon has some cringy lines but it's kinda like devil may cry so it's still good and aslo the merchant is arguably the best side character in all of resident evil Gameplay: even tho the controls do take some getting used to the gameplay is still great and the puzzles are simple and fun Graphics: are what you should expect from a ps2

A game from another era, graphics-wise. It is as if it is coded for a PS2 or PS3, at best.

Nevertheless, the plot, the action and the scenery are excellent. It has suspence. Moreover, I didn't encounter any software issues. In terms of puzzles, I only needed once to check on the Web for help. Also, the camera, brought me a feeling of claustrophobia since it limits your point of view

In terms of puzzles, I only needed once to check on the Web for help. Also, the camera, brought me a feeling of claustrophobia since it limits your point of view (you turn left or right and, after barely a second, it forces you looking ahead).

Another important aspect, for me, is that there are no sexy female heroines with sexy clothes and the like. I prefer when I play a video game to actually play a video game rather than watching something else.

    Eventually, I would recommend it.

On PS Store, when ON OFFER, much cheaper than retail.

If you buy it, have fun. If you don't have fun with something else.

    Thanks for reading!

I hadn`t played this game in a long time and I was a bit disappointed, it is definitely not as good as I remembered it, most of the game did not age well and the PROs of this game are related to nostalgia. I think this port to PS4 deserves an 8, but the fact that it doesn't have a platinum trophy doesn't make me really want to play it again, that's why I give it a 7.

Just a heads up. I'm reviewing the current version of the game for the ps4. I never played the first release for the ps2.

Story.: The daughter of of the u.s president was kidnapped and you are on the way to save her. That's pretty much everything I can remember (and the finale). To be honest, I never really got into the story. It just felt dumb to me. Some of the cutscenes are however

To be honest, I never really got into the story. It just felt dumb to me. Some of the cutscenes are however really over the top and fun to watch.

Graphics / Sound / Atmosphere.: I can only imagine that the graphics were really good on the ps2. The atmosphere was still fine even though the graphics aren't up to date at all. I won't rate the technical side however as the game is already way to old and it would not be fair.

Gameplay.: This is the part were I truly was disappointed. I really like the boss fights. Most of them are still fun to play but those endless enemy waves. This is just another level. It sometimes is mixed up with puzzles but all in all there are way to many parts of the game were you just have to shoot one enemy wave after another. I was really anoyed after some time, especially during the last bits of the game and I just wanted to get it over with (the checkpoint system and clunky controls didn't help either). Don't get me wrong. As a whole it was still enjoyable but I just expected more out of it.

Conclusion.: I really needed to push myself through this game after a while. The gameplay is fine as a whole but those million enemy waves were frustrating. The cutscenes were fun to watch and the atmosphere is still OK. I don't think you will miss out much though if you don't pick up the remaster. I would rather wait for a remake if capcom should release one.

    Story.: 3
    Graphics / Sound / Atmosphere.: X
    Gameplay.: 6

    Result.: 5

One of the best resident evil games hands down,This was a great departure in the series and it did it in a great way not like resident evil 6 that game was way too action based.

For some reason, this is the only major RE game on PS4 without a Platinum trophy; But it's still RE4, so it's not the end of the world.

Veterans should hold onto their hard-earned pesetas for a future budget buy. If you’re a newbie to the series it’s ok to buy it at a high price, stranger. [December 2016, p81]

This version aims only for the one or two persons in the world that haven’t played the game yet. Besides the 1080p resolution and the 60 fps framerate, it is still a lazy port.
  3. Resident Evil 4 is still a great experience. It still is one of the best entries of the whole Resident Evil franchise. 1080p and 60 FPS turns the game into a smooth thriller even if it is still not a full remake.
