    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a pretty boring game where none of your actions never matter. Nice quality, but very boring in implementation shooting with every gun in the game being pretty much the same with every enemy being a damage sponge untill you start shooting in the head, then everything dies in one shot, and not forgetting the catch all in the form of "time stop" on command. Graphics in the game are very good, if you have a 3070/4060 cards or equivalents with 8gigs of g ram at the minimum. If you don't, you will get gta 5 on medium quality... And finally the story... With every single mission and side quest being go kill X amount of guys, 60-80% of which being just average people that are just doing their jobs, with a rare acception of plantation owners, kkk members and some bandits. Overall the member of a band and the band of selfish thugs itself are just another parasite on the face of the gameworld, that living a care free life at expense of people that they are exploiting around them. AND simultaneously thinking that they are the victims when they get what is coming to them because of their actions. Don't know how about the average player, but i am revolted by the idea of playing as a pathetic leech that thinks it is a victim...… Expand

    Incredibly overhyped and overatted the gameplay is Incredibly uninteresting, outdated and boring exact same can be said about the games mission design, the open world looks like it was AI generated and is Incredibly boring and feels tedious to traverse. I would rather gauge my eyes out than play this game again.

    Every rockstar game feels the same. Like I'm watching a crappy movie but holding a controller, and the movie frequently pauses requiring me to hit the "I'm still playing button".
    The worst part is I got very excited for a western game. Only to realize it's just GTA set in the wild west. Same terrible gameplay. Thank you for those that told me to turn auto aim off, it allllllmost felt like I was playing and the game wasn't just playing itself. Even still, miserable I stuck with this as long as I did. Whenever I tried to stop I kept getting told, don't worry, it gets better.

It suffers from laggy controls too which gets very boring when your trying to shoot a mountain lion etc. The main character is slow (very) and seems to stroll through the game (including fire fights) like a man who has smoked WAY too much pot. Additionally, the story is not at all gripping. You're a bunch of bad guys who have good hearts (as opposed to the other two options in the game of good guys with bad hearts or bad guys with bad hearts). The conversations you can have with people are 'she'll be right' and 'blah blah, hungry and lost in the woods' boring fillers. There is zero character customisation at the start. Arthur is... Arthur. He looks the way he does and sounds the way he does which, I hasten to add, has absolutely zero charm. He is not in the slightest bit lovable and more importantly, the way he talks and ideas he has makes him a sturdy beta character with very little desire to do actual good i.e. 'well alright I'll go and rescue my friend and colleague but only because another man who is lower ranked than me but a stronger leader with much higher moral integrity than me has said so'. It's pathetic. He is the epitome of a nonchalant wanker whose moral code is based on self and obedience. He has no fire in him, his story is boring. he isn't clever and because the controls are rubbish, he isn't fast, or a very good shot. He should have been dead a LONG time ago. I have repeatedly tried to get into RDR2 and every time I have failed. It is frustratingly slow, clunky and boring. Because of these issues, it's simply impossible to get into it, to feel energised, to enjoy the views, to find fun characters. I may try again sometime but I simply can't see why I will ever understand how this game has done so well for itself. Give me bug ridden Fallout, Witcher or Mass Effect any day of the week.    … Expand

    I'm in the middle of the game, playing on a desktop computer. There is a lot of tedium. Going from point A to point B frequently takes more time than the actual activity. The voice acting is absolutely awful. Arthur, the main character, sounds like a caricature from a cartoon or a sketch. Most of the others are no better. The accents are just plain wrong. Combat can be frustratingI'm in the middle of the game, playing on a desktop computer. There is a lot of tedium. Going from point A to point B frequently takes more time than the actual activity. The voice acting is absolutely awful. Arthur, the main character, sounds like a caricature from a cartoon or a sketch. Most of the others are no better. The accents are just plain wrong. Combat can be frustrating because in gun fights the the opponents are impossible to see. You need to die a few times to find out where they are.

    The visuals are decent although it's clear that there are a few templates that are applied repeatedly. The controls are decent although complex. Sometimes doing something correctly involves finger positions that are impossible for many humans. Also wagon driving at speeds faster than a slow walk is similar to driving the Batmobile in the Batman games. If the route deviates slightly from a straight line be prepared for the controls to be imprecise in the extreme.

    The story seems more like a random series of events than a coherent narrative. The dialogue ranges from inept to moderately interesting.

And the fast travel system is antiquated and doesn't respect the time of adult gamers, who may not have as much time to play games.     This has been my greatest disappointment of PS4 generation. I've played it on 2022 on a PS5. Maybe for that reason the graphics didn't blow my mind, comparing to more recent games. But that's not the problem. Graphics are good even now, and it's easy to understand that back on the day it was released people thought they were amazing. The problem is that once you let the graphics aside,This has been my greatest disappointment of PS4 generation. I've played it on 2022 on a PS5. Maybe for that reason the graphics didn't blow my mind, comparing to more recent games. But that's not the problem. Graphics are good even now, and it's easy to understand that back on the day it was released people thought they were amazing. The problem is that once you let the graphics aside, there's nothing else into this game.

    First of all, the controls feel slow and clumsy. That makes the experience uncomfortable, and the feeling doesn't go away after hours and hours of gameplay: you never get used to it. Besides, many actions require stupid button combinations that other games solve in a much simpler way. C'mon, why would I need to hold L2 while I choose an action with another button just to choose what do I want to say to an NPC? Instead of changing to the dialogue menu, as everybody else does? That's not innovative, is making complex a simple thing. The same goes for the menus. I've seen simpler menus to choose what magic, among all, do I want to use on FFVII Remake, for example, than to choose what medicine should I use on RDR2.

    And here cames the worst: the game is terribly boring. It's like the creators didn't want you to play it, but just to sit down and watch it like a film. I really love single player narrative games, but most of them (Horizon saga, GOW, Uncharted saga, ...) try to involve the player to PLAY a story, giving that "play" part the importance it deserves. Here, it's more like if you have to make a constant effort to let the anti-player-quality-of-life mechanics pass. For example, if you fail a mission, you will start it again from the very beggining, because there is no autosave during missions, nor any chance to manually save your progress. Now, think of a mission that lasts, let's say 40 minutes, where everything gets more difficult during the last 10 minutes. You'll have to repeat every part, including cinematic sequences (some you can skip, some you can't). That doesn't make the game more difficult -just more tedious.

    When it cames to the story, I think it's well told, but the rythm is too slow. It's just as if there was the intention to make it long with content that is not that interesting. That makes the story interesting at some key moments, but too irregular. I didn't feel close to the characters at all, but this last point could be just me, and with no doubt the anti-plyer-quality-of-life mechanics I talked about didn't make me be in the best mood to feel close to anything in the game.

    To sum up, I had really high expectations for this game because of the high rating, the GOTY and all, and it totally let me down.     Could not get into this game. Tried playing 2 different times and could only get a few hours in. I know some games take more time to develop but the gameplay was just okay and not good enough to keep me interested.

    I have just reached chapter 3 and I can't get myself to keep playing. The world is beautiful and Arthur is very likeable. The tale that the game is weaving is nothing short of impressive. However, the gameplay if you can even call it that is insulting. The gameplay aspect to this game is probably made for four year olds. We need a new word to describe how scripted this game is, becauseI have just reached chapter 3 and I can't get myself to keep playing. The world is beautiful and Arthur is very likeable.     Snow in a cowboy game? I want to ride a horse across the dessert with cactussies and rob a train or smt. Not shovel my way out of snow for 7 hours, I already do that every day during winter. If I wanted an Inuit simulator i wouldve got that instead not this caca.

    I don't understand the great reviews of this game. So overly complex that I hated it as soon as the tutorial was over. A stamina meter is not just a meter but it has a core too!?? And the horse has 2 meters, but they disappear when he's trotting just right so you have no idea how you horse is doing. Why? The multiple, multiple tonics and their specific and complex effects was horrible. TheI don't understand the great reviews of this game. I was forced into a fight and killed a guy and then I'm wanted and I planned on being a good guy the whole game, and now I'm wanted? Why? The final straw was this: I'm riding my horse back to the overlook after running away from Valentine as a wanted man, and another horse and carriage crashed into me and my horse dies. I'm in the middle of nowhere with no transportation. That's not fun Rockstar! I did not enjoy the 15 hours I played this game! I highly recommend skipping it!     This game is absolute trash…. To keep it straight and simple; the story is cliche and generic, the characters are unmemorable, the animations are bad and never in sync with voice acting and the most important part, the gameplay, is clunky repetitive and 80% a horse simulator. Do not recommend!

    The game is boring and too long it could have been shorter by half. The game world is mostly empty and uninteresting, traveling on horseback takes too much time. The plot is linear and the player has almost no influence on its progress. The main character Arthur Morgan is annoying and complains all the time, hard to like, the other playable character John Marston is simp.

    Пример персонаж освижовывает тушу животного и нанего начинает бежать пума или медведь и он ведь не бросит тушу он будет доделывать свои дела пока не получит по ебалу от бегущего на него противника.     You stop your horse by the side of the road to listen to someone that is talking to you, someone else rams their horse into you over and over and says you are trying to fight them, then they start fighting you, you win, now you have a bounty. Bounty hunters in overwhelming numbers come to hunt you, they kill you, when you load back up you spawn some ways away as if it didn't happen and theYou stop your horse by the side of the road to listen to someone that is talking to you, someone else rams their horse into you over and over and says you are trying to fight them, then they start fighting you, you win, now you have a bounty. Bounty hunters in overwhelming numbers come to hunt you, they kill you, when you load back up you spawn some ways away as if it didn't happen and the bounty is still on you, so you go back to fight them again and they are gone, no redemption. You find an enemy camp of a rival gang and sneak up on it, you save so you can retry at a good spot before you start shooting, you almost win the fight but they kill you, you reload your save only to be spawned somewhere else, you go back to the camp and no one is there, no redemption. You are riding to a story mission, surprise bounty hunters start shooting you, but you outrun them not wanting to deal with their annoying mechanics anymore, only to run straight into another giant group of bounty hunters that you cannot outrun and they kill you, no decency of mechanics. You have a huge firefight with your gang when money has been tight and dead bodies are everywhere with money on them, the game doesn't let you pick it up and makes you fail the mission if you do, no decency of mechanics. This game is one of the most passive aggressive rude things I've ever experienced. Trying something, failing, learning from your mistake, and then winning from that learning is the very basics of video games themselves. Red Dead Redemption 2 REFUSES TO LET YOU HAVE REDEMPTION! This is so ridiculous it seems like an inside joke! And do not fool yourself into thinking you have freedom here, You have to do every mission the EXACT way they want you to, otherwise you fail. It is insanely abrasive. "Hey lets keep our guns down, I know how trigger happy you get" if you disagree too bad, it's all extremely rigid. Lovers of Mario, BEWARE, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.     Easily the most overrated game of all time. Slow, tedious, boring and forgettable. Unforgettable only in that it is so frequently labeled far beyond any possible satisfaction of play. An undeniably beautiful game but who cares if it is not fun or engaging at all?

    Die Missionen sind Todes langweilig. Die Steuerung ist aus der Hölle und im Grunde wird man vom Game nur bestraft sobald man versucht es zu spielen. 1 Punkt gebe ich hier nur deshalb weil ich Westernsettings sehr mag. Schlechteste Game, dass ich bisher in meinem Leben gespielt habe!

Let me do outlaw stuff in a game about outlaws Rockstar, without bounty hunters coming after me after I’ve escaped the law or after death. Do anything bad = having to pay ridiculous amounts of money to clear your name. The game dissuades and discourages you from playing it like past Rockstar open world titles
    -Terrible pacing. The game is just simply too long and the story doesn’t get interesting until the end of Chapter 3. By then I’d put over 30 hours into this game. It shouldn’t take 30+ hours to finally get into a story. And even when I finally got into it, I just couldn’t be bothered to finish the game due to the boring minute to minute gameplay
    -Realism Schemalism: There’s attention to detail and then there’s obsession with detail. RDR2’s realism is too much that it actually ends up getting in the way of enjoying the game as a game. Get ready to trade in your real life responsibilities and chores for digital video game ones… including, but not limited to: tapping X/A on your controller to get around anywhere on this overly large map (Larger than GTA V and that game had cars, planes, Jets, etc… and fast travel isn’t unlocked til later in the game), feed Arthur, bathe Arthur, refill your health, stamina and dead eye core, contribute to the camp’s fund box, wear the appropriate clothes for the appropriate weather, bring food back to camp, feed your horse, pat your horse, brush your horse, buy horse reviver before long trips because your horse can die, get stranded in the middle of nowhere and be forced to walk up to 10 minutes because your horse has a maximum whistle hearing range, clean your guns, equip your guns from your horse because you can’t carry all your weapons on your person because… realism… hooray. It’s not fun, it’s tedious for the sake of being tedious and slow.

    Objective Cons:
    -Bad/clunky controls
    -If you played the original Red Dead Redemption, you already know how the story ends so the story doesn’t carry as much weight


    Let me preface this by saying I’ve generally been a lifelong fan of Rockstar Games and the Open World experiences they create. After playing the masterpiece that is Red Dead Redemption 1, I had high expectations for Red Dead Redemption 2. Those expectations were not met, but more importantly, neither were the expectations I’ve come to expect from a Rockstar Open World game. For as long as I can remember, Rockstar Games have emphasized and prioritized player freedom into the core design of their open world games. Red Dead Redemption 2 seems more interested in showing off how realistic a game can be and telling its slog of a story rather than on what the player can, or what the player wants to do. No, I wasn’t expecting something like GTA but I expected something more along the lines of the first Red Dead Redemption. The prequel was more grounded in reality than the likes of something like GTA but it still knew it was a game and still let you have your fun within the open world. In contrast, Red Dead Redemption 2 actively feels like it punishes the player for trying to play the game like you would any other past Rockstar Game… it feels more restrictive. This game doesn’t ask you to play it, it asks you to live it. Unfortunately, most days I simply want to come home and escape the mundane and monotonous aspects of life by playing a video game that lets me escape. Red Dead Redemption 2 only confronts the player with more chores and responsibilities, and unlike other games, doesn’t even try to gameify the responsibilities. Albeit digital, chores still feel like chores. Overall, a game that has the potential to be this boring and dull gameplaywise can never be considered a 10 by anyone that considers themselves a fan of the vide game medium.    … Expand

    I do not understand the high ratings for this game! in the first 5 hours you download boring dialogues somewhere on a horse in 3 hours, I bought the game to play and not to ride a horse. Everything is slow here, even at the moment when you pick up cartridges from killed enemies, it is done as slowly as possible! this game is overrated.

    It’s an huge, outstanding piece of art – worth the hard-earned cash as well as countless hours that are needed to get to know at least some of the attractions of Rockstar’s rendition of Wild West. For those who put story first – the biggest virtue of Red Dead Redemption 2 is that it sets the stage for RDR 1 and does it wonderfully. [13/2018, p.40]
