I didn't think it was possivle for Rockstar to make the online worse than the single player, but they did it. This game was super hyped and failed to deliver on everything except graphics and a few funny missions.

Thanks to rockstar for the pre-alpha release online mode. This is not a beta, the game constantly crashes. Modes of stupid deadmatch are not interesting and do not give enough money for the victory. It would be better if they did not release this "Pre-Alpha", you could just postpone the release date.

There is no total activity in the open world, you cannot select the mode for the online game, the standard weapon is used in the game modes, so why should I spend money and buy around the open world?Clothing is available only with a high level or for donat.

I bought this over Christmas purely to play online with a friend.

During each of our RD2 sessions we probably spent 60% of our time dealing with infinite load screens, poor menu systems, bugs in the UI stopping us from: inviting to posse, setting up a camp, finding a camp, playing as part of the same session, setting up a profession, not being able to talk to NPCs... (I could go on),

The menu system for this game is absolute madness. UX/UI have never been something Rockstar are good at but I've never seen it so bad that it actually destroyed the enjoyment of what seemed to be an outstanding and beautiful game when it worked.

We've now given up wrestling with it. It's not a fun way to spend limited gaming time. I hope it gets better in the future.

Rockstar seems to have gone full out ... in placing the most unable in the company in charge of RDR2 Online. By far the biggest issue is connectivity. Random patches, which you must download to continue laying, break the game constantly. The game was unplayable, and it took days for Rockstar to even acknowledge that there was an issue, and haphazard fixes thereafter just made it worse. They seem to have stabilized the game, but only by lowering the number of players per server. This also appears to be a response to massive issues with griefers. Someone at Rockstar thought it would fun to create a game where ever real world 14-year old puppy strangler could be turned loose to wreck stupid havoc and wreck the game for everyone else. The roles are interesting. They become unplayable when a steady stream of griefers shoots your character in the head while trying to accomplish ... anything. You are not allowed to actually defend yourself (except against high hostility characters) so you literally have to lay there while the puppy stranglers torture your character to death - so much fun! If you do defend yourself, well, your aiming function goes out and I have literally been unable to discharge my weapon to protect myself. Worse? Griefing seems to trigger instability, and, after getting tortured by some juvenile mouth breather your game resets and you loose anything you might have had on your horse (which sometimes undoes hours of progress). Griefers are also allowed to randomly target you for 'assassination'. Great! You get to kill the griefers? Nope. You can kill them dozens of times, they respawn right there again, and you kill them over and over, etc., only for the griefer to get a lucky shot in and you respawn ten miles away from what you were doing. The pay system is atrocious. Everything is super expensive, and the payout for mission is paltry at best. The legendary pelts, for example, all make the same thing - a winter coat (which functions only in about 20% of the game area) with a different animal head, and they cost, on average, 20X more than the legendary pelts brings in If you get good at something and start to make money? It's a fair bet that Rockstar will break it. The trader role (which produced some good cash after some effort) was entirely broken after one update. Collecting? Everything got changed to random, so I have literally been searching for one coin to complete a set for two weeks - because 'random' means you get one coin 12 times and another ... zero. (That is definitionally not random). The game issues might be workable, but the connection issues are insane. Rockstar, rather than even acknowledge that there is a problem cycle you through a series of poorly trained ... I would guess teenagers? ... who pose as customer service. When the connection issues were at there worst, Rockstar's response was to blame its customers. They cycled me through requesting youtube uploads, screen shots, error messages, port connections, and, not even once, did they actually answer a question - it's just a constant demand for information. Rockstar's customer service is so broken that they just keep asking for the same information, heedless to the fact that, in many cases, were just provided with the very thing they were demanding. I have been consistently getting the same error message, and Rockstar cannot even tell what the error message means ... ergo, I fix what? But they keep on asking for the error message while utterly ignoring the presentation of EXACTLY what they want. That done deaf response to what their players actually want seems to have infused the game. You want Rockstar to make the game stable? The game becomes unstable. Want some function to ignore griefers? Griefers get their own mission, and protection ... because in order to report them you have to allow them to do pretty much whatever they want. Want a Rancher role? Here's a naturalist! The off line version suffers from none of these issues. The online version is a game that struggles with the basics of staying online for ... you know, an online game. Expand

With this last update, Rockstar clearly took a new turn for the worse with red dead online. Greedy and lazy content with nerf of payout and the first introduction of PTW. Some skills are now only unlockable with the new temporary new pass costing gold, a first in the game, and certainly not the last. I wouldnt be surprised we will soon see loot boxes.

This studio is ruining the potential this beautiful game had.

Overall new players would certainly have fun for a while but once everything is maxed out, there is nothing to do. Designs of the cosmetic are poor and not fitting the theme at all most of the time. There are many many bugs sometimes unsolved for a very long time. There is also clear lack of any sort of inspiration or love for the game by the developers, no communication with the player base and simply this lasting feeling that they absolutely do not care for this game. Overall the community has way better ideas than they do. They say they listen to the feedbacks, but dont be fooled, they dont. We never asked any of the content they've been throwing at us the past year and frankly it is such poor and lay content that it is laughable

They’ve destroyed the economy of the game by pushing people to buy gold bars, the bounty Hunter dlc is a reskin of content already in the game which you have to pay more to access!! The daily challenges which were totally fine before has been completely nerfed. Players have had streaks of 100+ days (and some over 300+ days) have been reset and given nothing meaningful to compensate. Gameplay features have been locked behind a battle pass (which you’re encouraged to spend real money on). This game is designed to squeeze every last penny from you on the false promise that meaningful content will be added. Only thing we’ve got is 2 roles, which are similar to in game ones already and a rip off on the bounty Hunter. The dates on any voucher you might earn are dated and very conditional. For example you could get one for 50% off any horse below rank 40, but it won’t include something like the top Breton. Or a better example is the guns, I had a voucher from moonshiners for a discount on any gun, but it was useless to me because I had them already (I’m a day one player)

If you expect it to be anything like gta you’re wrong. The similarities end at the name of the devs. And the event weeks are useless. Barely get double money on anything meaningful and discounts are lousy. I’ll finish with this, the story mode in the game is one of the best I’ve ever played and if you’re buying it for that reason, it’s worth it. But if you’re going to buy the online stand-alone, get that $5 and burn it. You’ll have more fun and less chances of being robbed by a greedy company. We’ve had it Rockstar

Online has a story, I won't write about what happens in it but it's ok, after doing the last available mission you get a notification saying that the story will be continued, but after almost 2 years they still didn't add any new story missions.
The game has 3 currencies, first is RDO$ used to buy food, weapons and a lot of cosmetic items, the second is Gold that can be used to buy roles, quicker access to some items and some cosmetic items require it for purchase. The last currency is earned by leveling up roles and is used to unlock (you still need to buy them with $ or gold) some role items.
Gold is the only currency you can buy with your real money, but you can also earn it in-game, but since the last update, it's clear that R* wants you to use your real money. The best way of getting gold was by doing daily challenges (and the payouts weren't too big, it was pretty balanced), but a few days ago they changed it so you get only 0.1 gold per daily (instead of the usual 0.2) and they also heavily nerfed streaks (if you did at least 1 daily per day for 21 days or more, you would earn 2.5 times more gold per daily [0.5 per daily] as long as you kept your streak), now the streak resets every 28 days, so you only get the 2.5x multiplier (that now gives only 0.25 gold) for 8 days.
There are 5 roles in RDO: Trader (turn animal skin etc. into product you can sell), collector (collect sets of items that you can sell), bounty hunter, moonshiner (produce moonshine to sell) and naturalist (take blood samples from animals and sell them). For a long time players have asked for an outlaw role that would allow us to rob banks, but R* doesn't listen, so they just added a stupid "upgrade" to the bounty hunter role (You even have to pay for 15 gold for it, even if you already are a bounty hunter). Even in the trailer for RDO stand alone, one of the first lines said is "If you wanna rob, rob", something you still can't do, even though 2 years have passed.
There are still many glitches in the game from updates that came out around 1.5 years ago, ex. when you deliver a bounty, the weapon on your back will be in a weird and really distracting position (the same position it's in when you carry someone), it shouldn't be that hard to fix for a developer with the most grossing media product of all time (gta5).
It's an online game, but I wished I was playing alone. In sessions with more than 10 people, the amount of animals is significantly lower, random events have a lower chance of happening and because of the peer-to-peer servers, you'll probably get disconnected many times.

There are many more problems but I don't have enough time to write about them. Just remember:
    DO NOT BUY IT!

I've been playing the game since it's release; I'm at level 411, and I'm well off in terms of both forms of in-game currency. I would love to recommend this game, but I honestly can't. The potential this game has is squandered by the growing ineptitude of Rockstar. Almost everything in this game suffers from an interesting idea with a horrendous execution. From tying rewards to timers that force a playstyle that doesn't allow for any creativity to putting minimum effort into player-requested features (legendary animals and their garment sets). Every update has gotten worse and worse, smaller and smaller, and every single time there is some sort of game-breaking bug. With this latest update, that bug is not being able to earn cash or XP from anything. This makes it hard to believe that anyone is playtesting these updates.

In terms of PC specific performance, there's still room for improvement. It has come a long way, but a lot of tweaking will be necessary before your performance is even close to optimized. On top of that, the game is prone to frequent crashes and even more frequent disconnects.

This latest update also reduced the amount of their microtransactions currency, gold, that can be earned from daily challenges by over 70%. One way was that streaks now reset after 28 days rather than going until you broke it. This isn't bad on it's own, but it's made even worse by the fact that the payouts for these were also reduced by 50%. There was no warning for the latter. The information was only given out in the patch notes. Rockstar made a system that was too rewarding and severely over-corrected. New players will need months to earn enough gold to get the roles that come nowhere close to meeting their respective potentials.

I really do want to believe in this game, but Rockstar is making that immensely difficult to do. It pains me to say that, as I'm sure the devs work incredibly hard, but it's not reflected in the content we get.

I would keep an eye on this game, but I can't recommend it in its current state.

The PVP is horrendously unbalanced, and boring. Auto-aim removes any strategy, some game modes give you knives while other people can use guns (dafuq?), their battle royale attempt is pathetic, oh and often times the lobbies I play in are half empty (the games only 2 years old).

Money is given out at a trickle. Although, not that it matters because all the guns and horses are locked until you grind to a higher level. Except then it doesn't even matter because there is nothing to spend your money on (all the horses are the same, the guns are so unbalanced its basically "the good ones" and "the **** guns", meaning just buy the good set and you won't need to buy anything more). It's very clear this system was set in place to get people to purchase microtransactions, those are currently not online ... yet. However the menus have clearly been set up. It looks like Rockstar knows how controversial they're system is going to be and disabled it at launch to allow for its players to demand it due to how expensive everything is. NO! This means that you can either grind for 8 hours to buy a pistol, or you can spend your real world money, and pay to win. This completely ruins it for me. I'm not going to spend money on features that I already bought. I already paid for deadeye. I already paid for slow motion while switching weapons.

It really is annoying that there are abilities they want you to pay for online that don't appear in the main story, such as health regeneration in deadeye, and a complex ability upgrade system. They intentionally left features like this out of the main game, so that they could get you to buy it in red dead online.

Cos there are players online who are very mean and have ranked up very high and they don’t mind going round shooting everyone or killing you. It’s basically that’s simple. But when the map opens up you’ll know where to go and where not to go. If your new to this online part, steer clear of anything involving killing cos like all these online multiplayers I think one of them is called Call Of Duty, you’ll die immediately. But the more you play, the more people share their likes and dislikes, the more Rockstar will add and make this the most enjoyable online experience ever. But just like the story mode amazing but with real people. Well done rockstar. Expand

Gave it a 10 to offset old bad ratings. In reality the online portion is probably at about a 7. Far better than what it was when it launched last year. the new update provides a ton of stuff to do, it's just still very grindy. Other than that, it added stranger missions, roles, and a bunch of other stuff to do. Love it so far. Not sure why people are complaining about micro-transactions, that's pretty standard in online gaming these days, as long as there is no loot crate system or anything scummy like that. And to anyone complaining that it's hard to get money, try to remember that if it was easy to get rich in online than every noob playing would be rich and have all the best gear and guns. They've made this onleine game so good. Now we can be bounty hunters, trade, do missions for people, you can collect, ect. Only thing now is that you can't buy to much things, but I'll give them some time and hope they add it to the new outlaw pass.
Edit: They've finally added a property to buy. It is a moonshiner shack, and it even feels like a home. It's so much fun making the moonshine

As of April 22, 2020, Red Dead Online is an amazing open world game, there are bugs and glitches just like any other game, but the game is improving. PvP is as fun as ever, there are plenty of roles too play to keep yourself occupied, and custimization is some of the best in any online game for the PS4/Xbox One. Worth checking out.

A great game that people do not appreciate.

The first is not a gta, it has no city, no cars, with that it has all the content to create much more limited and it has not been on the market as long as gta. The game is not empty of people, only that a decision at the request of the players, rockstar made that the players cannot see each other unless they are very close and that makes it

The game is not empty of people, only that a decision at the request of the players, rockstar made that the players cannot see each other unless they are very close and that makes it seem that you are alone in the world.

Your content could be greater with more updates but there is precisely little to do. Most online games have fewer modes and things to do.

Like every game and more if it is multiplayer it has its failures and bugs, the time to test the dlc is less than a normal singleplayer game and more with lots of players doing everything and trying to get some errors for their benefit.

Micropayments as in gta v online are not necessary to get anything, everything can be achieved by playing.

Roles, hunting animals, history missions, races, deathmatches, customization, there is no lack of content even though you can have many more things that will surely come.

There are things that gta online has that are missing and should already be there, such as private rooms or being able to choose exactly which race or deathmatch you want to do instead of getting into a random one. Perhaps this is so so that you find players faster. But in this online, the loads go much faster than online, I don't know if it's the game or the servers.

In addition, the game has been in its online version at 5 dollars, a very reasonable price and we have games for a long time and more if they decide to release it in the new generation and with that they put more content.

I love the world of Red Dead Redemption, and living in it with other players sounds very fun, but unfortunately Rockstar Games doesn't really care about it.

It's enjoyable for a while, there are some nice gamemodes and the story is interesting for the most part but the map feels empty... there's some serious wasted potential, the game desperately needs more content. Final Rating:

1 for good world and 1 for not bad story for MMO but god other things looks like made by reptiloids. Also hate any pass systems, better sell addons or skins but if you'll buy pass you'll have 2nd job right after job in real life((

Red Dead Online is fun to play o during some occasions, but it can get real boring when other players attack you for no reason. Besides that, it’s nice to do the side missions around the map!

Rockstar almost leaves this game to die until they add some lame terrible content at the last minute. The microtransactions in this game are worse and the outlaw pass(ripped off fortnite and other multiplayer games) has the worst rewards. As far as the pvp goes, it isn't that great. The gunplay works well for singleplayer or rdo missions but not for pvp. Don't buy the standalone version, buy the full **** version of the game including singleplayer as that verison is much better and it is between 9 -10 for me. Expand

Whether you're a wild mustang wanderer in free roam or a hardcore PvPer, RDO delivers pretty amazing fun. I'd be remiss, however, if I didn't mention that it's still a “mostly what you make of it” online experience. New content comes in dribs and drabs. And when you look over yonder at GTA V (where players are getting casinos and all sorts of cool things) it's clear that RDO needs better and more frequent support. Hopefully Rockstar can be spurred into that action, because what's already here is well worth saddling up for.

Co-op easily outclasses PvP, but Red Dead Online is a promising foundation for a long-lasting multiplayer experience.
