It is only a demo, but it is an excellent one. There are some excellent scares, an incredibly creepy house, and the reveal at the end if you do not already know it will make your jaw drop. Just make sure not to give up the first time you die, because it isn't the end. And most importantly, check absolutely everything for clues, it is the only way to progress.

During these last years plenty of incredible horror game experiences have been crafted: Hundreds, if not thousands of games have been released, but I don't think we have ever seen something like this game. This Playable Teaser for Silent Hills is a clear demonstration of how a horror game must be done: It must have a frightening atmosphere, a well-presented story (I really liked the way the developers implemented the story through the radio), and upon them all, the scary factor: these details that make us feel afraid of something. In Slender, the feeling that you were being chased during the whole experience, alongside with its good atmosphere created one of the most impressive terror games of the whole gaming industry. On the other hand, P.T. creates that feeling of being chased to make you feel afraid of something, but it combines this with the confusion this place will presumably create to you. How that place works. I just loved the feeling of confusion that you get from the game. Expand

Visually it is utterly gorgeous. If they can make the whole game look like this, it will truly herald the PS4 era and set a new standard. While the play area is essentially one narrow corridor and a small bathroom repeated over and over again, it is done so well that you barely notice. The atmosphere is great and clearly directed by a master.

For all the praise I really do hope the game will be more than just this concept recycled over and over . This serves well as a demo, but the final product needs to be allot more showing the same innovation but on a grander scale.

    Overall:
P.T. is an excellent demo and if it follows through, Silent Hills has the potential to be a gaming milestone. Setting the standard for horror based games.

The horror genre, in movies or games, is rarely done right. Too much predictability at times, a cliche plot, whatever the reason being. THIS is the game that not only does it right, but nearly does it flawlessly. Combined with a few jump scares, the atmosphere in the home is frightening by itself and will make you want to put down the controller and stop playing. The visuals are gorgeous, and I swear that first scene of the game with the protagonist laying on the floor as the cockroach passes him has GOT to be real life. Really the first "game" that gives you a true example of just how gorgeous games may look on the next gen consoles very soon. Within the first two minutes you get an idea of what exactly is happening once you open the door and walk down the hallway for the first time, and the radio is broadcasting a news station. The plot unfolds perfectly as you see and hear things, a truly horrifying plot to go along with a horrifying atmosphere and experience. As a 25 year old guy that loves the horror genre and saddened by the lack of quality of horror entertainment, this game seriously got to me. So unsettling from start to finish, not wanting to look around the corner, scared of what solving the next puzzle might bring. But it was so good that it was impossible for me to just stop playing. If this is just a portion of what Silent Hills will offer, it will be a sure fire blockbuster game with very little chance of disappointment. Easily one of the best entires for the horror genres, movie or game, in a long time. Expand

The number one thing I loved so much about the early Silent Hill games was the incredible atmosphere and level design and those qualities had been lacking since after SH4. This time around I think they finally hit the nail on the head. It's clear that Kojima and Del Toro did their homework brushing up on what made the originals great and then from there they spun it on it's head and created something new and exciting. If the final product is anywhere near as good as this demo is than I think we could possibly be dethroning SH2 as the best in the series. Oh and don't look behind you, trust me. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When it was announced at Gamescom that a new Silent Hill game would be releasing, many became cautiously excited. Hideo Kojima is attached, as is director Guillermo Del Toro and actor Norman Reedus. Yet talent may not be good enough, since the series has slowly descended down the drain. Ever since Silent Hill 2, things have remained relatively unchanged and unscary. Along with the announcement of 'Silent Hill' a new playable teaser was also unveiled. PT was shown off, before being ported onto the PS4 store almost instantly. Being the sneaky bugger he is, Hideo Kojima didn't expect players to solve the final puzzle for over a week. Within 24 hours however, fans had beaten the demo and discovered that it was a teaser for the new Silent Hill. The thing was, nobody knew how they solved it. One aspect we can all agree on though, is that PT is ridiculously scary. Here's why...

You wake up in a small room, a cockroach crawling away. Getting up, your only option is to go through the door in front of you. You emerge into a well lit corridor. There's a clock, some furniture and plenty of photographs, along with a few broken glasses and some split candy. It's a messy, if standard corridor in a family home. Continue down and there are two doors you can't go through, along with some more pieces of furniture. A radio is on, a news broadcast telling of a grisly family murder. Continue down some stairs, open the door and... you're back in the corridor. This time, there are small changes, such as the radio being turned off. The first locked door is banging. Continue the loop and the shaking door will be slightly ajar and the end door locked. Zoom into the partially open door and you'll get your first fright. Continue the loop again and again and every time something will have changed. It may be a hulking ghoul standing in the corridor. The bathroom door may be fully open and you can go inside (careful of the fetus though!). Then again you may see a demon woman standing on a balcony above you. Things get really scary when you are possessed by Lisa (the main ghost) and she pops up out of nowhere, kills you and begins to do... something. I don't want to spoil everything, but know that this is more than walking down an L-shaped corridor. There are picture puzzles which must be completed to get the whole story (I thought they are required to beat the demo but they aren't) and plenty of challenging sections.

No doubt you will have heard of the infamous "3 baby laughs" final puzzle and it is so challenging because there isn't an official solution as of yet. While TheGreatDebate has found some form of a solution, I've tried multiple times and after almost 2 hours of luring out Lisa and walking ten steps, I can still only get 1 baby laugh. I've had over 4 laughs for different things, but each one was on a different loop and I haven't been able to redo them. This final challenge is what brought the score down. I get it's supposed to be hard, but there should be a definitive way to solve it now. Everybody seems to have stumbled upon the spectacular final trailer reveal, not solved it.

In the end, PT is pure genius. Like that Metal Gear Solid 2 demo years ago, it's endlessly replayable and consistent in its scares. While Hideo Kojima made some players a little angry with Ground Zeroes, I am now keen on getting this Silent Hills and can't wait to see more. PT may be simple, but the realistic visuals, haunting sound design and well structured tension makes it an unforgettable experience and one of the scariest things I have ever played.

Dude it's a good, honest free-to-play game. (There's no micro-transactions) the graphics are outstanding for a demo and the game is scary mostly because of its use of atmosphere over jump scares (unlike that overrated crap Five nights at Freddy) The ghost that's pursuing you is also terrifying but I can't emphasize how often I jumped **** on some creepy sound than ump scares.

It is important to note that this game is a "playable teaser," hence the name P.T. It is however, an uncommonly visceral, and disturbing indication of what the developer (Hideo Kojima) and director (Guillermo del Toro) are planning to bring to the survival horror genre and the Silent Hill franchise. And that really is an understatement of the unceasing apprehension I felt during LITERALLY every moment of the relatively short ordeal. Kojima and del Toro seem to have found a new formula for what puts players at unease, using a combination of sound and atmosphere that I have not ever experienced in a game before, ever. Talking specifics would be a misdeed to those who haven't played, so I'll just give a couple pieces of advice. First, it helps to have a friend with you while playing to keep your heart rate at a tolerable, though still probably unhealthy level. Also, don't get frustrated by a puzzle, the game was designed to encourage players to share ideas and information via PSN and the Internet in order to discover some of the more bizarre solutions.

But if there was an established genre and comparison for "playable teaser" games, I'd probably have scored it a perfect 10. Oh, and it's FREE to play.

The one-button controls felt limiting in a bad way, the encounters lost their scare after a few times, and the puzzles were terrible. Not terrible in a simple way, but terrible as in anyone without the internet to help is not going to figure them out. But really, it's well worth your time if you're a horror game fan.

It is also a staggering lesson in economy of gameplay, and place, that other developers should take more of; you'll only experience one corridor but the game is designed in such a way that it never feels repetitive or boring. It is the stark opposite of, for example a title like Destiny where there are multiple worlds and enemies yet every single mission feels exactly the same as the last.

It might be a prequel to another game (though not a demo of that game) but it feels quite fully fledged. For a free title this was quite, quite special and could easily have been released as a full-price downloadable title (compare with the MGS prologue released at £30).

All told this is quite a fabulous title.

It isn't even a game, its only a demo! I'm kinda glad the full version got cancelled, its potentially saved dozens of mentally vulnerable kids from going completely nuts! :)

    8/10.

The first time I played this game I felt like I was waited for this game in my whole life. My jaw dropped from the graphics, the creepy story and subtle horror elements made me feel like I am 10 again and watching my first horror movie alone. The game barely lasts an hour, and I had to restart it like 3-4 times, because my heart was racing so fast.

    Kojima or Konami, I don't care: I.

Mother of God this was a good demo. This game-to-be has an incredibly high rating and it earned it. I have never experienced a more immersive and terrifying environment such as this. I don't care why they shut it down, this game was destined to be THE standard of the genre for decades to come and would have been a cash cow. I'll never forget this experience and the fact it's gone before it really got started only gives it a higher value. Expand

The story revolves around an unnamed protagonist(Norman Reedus) who wakes up in an abandoned house, and decides to explore it to find out what's going on. I will not spoil what happens in the house, but I will say it is utterly terrifying. P.T does not stack up to Outlast, but P.T far rises above Slender Man. If you own a PS4, I would definitely recommend downloading P.T Expand

WOW, I've never been so scared while playing a game. I recommend EVERYONE who owns a PC to download the unreal version if they haven't played it.

It's just a demo, but I think is a great horror one. The graphics and sound are great, you must play to believe.

Its a **** playable teaser and Kojima created one of the scariest games of all time. This games cancellation is Konami's biggest **** up, depriving everyone of one of the most ambitious horror games of all time and putting the final nail in the Silent Hill coffin, all while pushing the only person who actually cares about games out of the company. **** Konami.

It could became the definitive horror experience, but life doesn’t go always as we think... so we never know! But one thingh is sure, I really believe no one that have played it will forget it! Thanks Kojima for this experience!

This is an awesome experience. It's quite vague, and to be honest, if it wasn't for the internet, I would have no idea what to do or how to play this. I think the game is designed that way, and in that sense, it's an absolute success. It's certainly scary and realistic looking.

This is the scariest game I have ever played. By far. Good graphics and a very terrifying experiment. Do not play it at night or by yourself
