First. The menu interface is a joke. There is no rhyme or reason, all menus look different from each other and are not clear in their functionality, sometimes when you finish a race the cursor might default to "continue" or " restart" so if your not paying attention you may restart the race by accident with no " are you sure message". Also there is no menu option to change controller options while in a saved career, or maybe there is and I just haven't been able to find it in the menu mess you hav created.

Second. Career mode ! Now I don't know how long it will take me to progress from Kart mode to the next level but there is no end in sight. Day after day the calendar ticks over to more and more kart races. I am currently racing a kart round but can see GT3 rounds on days before me on the calendar. Are these races I am missing or need to somehow gain an invetation to ? Even when I get an invitation message there are no invitations in my email, just comments on my performance. Bored now !

Third. Glitches. When starting a race you can naturally hear the cars around you and then you rev your own and the sound is loud and glorious but I have started two races now where my car or kart should I say has the same decibel level as the cars around me and on other car on the grid is loud as mine should be. This makes the race **** ! Also sometimes when you finish a race the cursor defaults to restart instead of continue which can cause you to accidentally restart and lose a great performance....

I think a 5 is generous. But with a little attention to the basics in game design and this could have easily been an 8,

This is apparently a very common problem- the game or last patch needs to be deleted and reinstalled then the console must be restarted. So, off to a great start there. It has also crashed 5 times in the last 3 hours I've played it (my PS4 has never crashed until today) so not good there either.

Once you get playing though, the graphics are great, and some of the detail is amazing- especially on the car interiors. However, playing with a standard controller, the game doesn't feel 'realistic' at all. I know cars don't use thumb sticks but I found my tyres cooling down during a burnout and I had more grip on a wet track (3 secs off my old lap record??). Also the collisions are awful, the impact angles don't seem to have any bearing on the outcome and the 'damage' is bordering on random it seems.

The tyre model is apparently the most realistic ever, but the model appears to be based on ridiculously cheap tyres- low grip and low wear. This improves with the higher performance cars though.

The handling is good, although not as realistic they suggest- FWD cars are horrible too. I admit to never driving a Focus ST, but if it handled like that a lot of people would have died, it's like a blancmange on ice. Again, the higher performance cars seem better.

One of my 2 major issues though is that there's no real sense of progress. Sure driving is fun, but I have a car for that. I want to win something, achieve things in the game. An invite to drive an old Caterham isn't enough. It's too much of a sim, and as such lacks completely in fun. The option to start at the top seems great but I get the impression it's only there so less people notice how badly they've recreated the slower cars.

The other major issue is that there are some simple little issues which should never make it past alpha testing, yet have. The default option on every screen seems to be 'Exit' or 'Abandon Season' or 'Don't save progress' which means if you're not 100% paying attention, you can say goodbye to any record of that 24 hour race you just won vs your mates, as the game suggests for you to do. Also you must have certain keybinds, like gear shifts (I drive auto in real life so do on games too) which limits your options for other things. If you want to drive a 'Formula A' car (F1) then you can use DRS...but not without manually changing the keybinds away from something useful like 'camera up'.

All in all, the game feels like a uni project rather than the blockbuster racing game we're told it is. Buggy, poorly thought out and in some places just plain bodged, the pretty graphics don't make up for all the issues. If I want a hyper-realistic driving experience on cold tyres that looks visually stunning and sounds amazing, I'll pop outside and drive my real car. I'd also hope not to crash every 30-45 mins like the game too...

Project cars is certainly a visual treat however its also a game that left me felling disappointed. There is a novelty to having every race type unlocked in career mode and allowing you to choose where to start, however herein lies a problem I had with the game; where was the sense of achievement. Racing is well simulated and after completing the Clio cup I thought "That's nice" but I was left with no challenge or sense of achievement. There is nothing to make we want to plough hours into the game to unlock better cars, upgrade, pitstop strategies, tracks; it's all there right out of the box. So I tuned my attention to the online aspect hoping for the close wheel to wheel racing that had been in the online video from the development stages. Instead I was met with players who just ram into you causing you to spin out or become damaged. Where was the respectful racing portrayed online? So after a week my copy went on eBay and I cut my loses. A beautiful game. Yes. A great idea being crowd funded and developed. Yes. However ultimately its just gets a bit dull with no achievement structure to keep you devoted to Career mode and frustrating racers online who think they are playing demolition derby. Expand

This Game is a terrible car game in my opinion, whatever race you are in unless you push to the limit and break at the latest possible point, there isn't a way of passing the other racers.
All racers have no awareness of what is going on around, fair enough it's a race where you will get nudges off other drivers and you will do the same no doubt but you get hit from all directors, you go

All racers have no awareness of what is going on around, fair enough it's a race where you will get nudges off other drivers and you will do the same no doubt but you get hit from all directors, you go around a corner sensibly and 2 cars will hit you on either side, this will send you spinning.
This game is a rival to Forza Motorsport as far as I am concerned, and in my opinion, get an Xbox and buy Forza 6 when it is released, because this game is absolutely terrible.
I saw the trailer and thought, yeah that looks good for the next gen console and for it to be the first racing game it looked very well made, but if you've played Forza you'll know, the competitiveness of the game, the gameplay, the graphics, the controls.....the lot are superb, but this just isn't.
The steering on this is outrageously horrible, the breaking is terrible, and when you change the transmission from auto to manual you won't fail to notice, once the revs hit the red the car doesn't just Rev constantly, the car changes up a gear, if I'm not mistaken, that's auto still?
With this game you don't feel in control, you do with Forza!
With this game you feel your playing a game, with Forza you feel like your actually in a race, it is made so well!
I think the only decent thing with this game is the weather graphics, the sun reflects beautifully off the track surface and the rain is just remarkable, but weather doesn't just make a game.
I really do believe that they need to rethink this game, and take their time with updating this, as much as possible!

From a graphical perspective certainly the best racing game on the PS4 so far. However the career mode is not transparent, frustrating and boring. The next racing game for the PS4 that will end up in my board not being used anymore. Again I will reactive my PS3 and continue with Gran Turismo.

This game should have been great and nearly pulls it off. I have persevered with it and after putting in 100 hours I can't take anymore. Graphics are good, sound good, presentation and UI is poor.

Oh where to start.....well there are a lot of crashes to PS4 home screen or worse restarts the PS4, which I can't see is any good for it. I've lost count how many times Pcars crashes the PS4. It's the most crashy console game I have ever played! You'll want to commit suicide when the game crashes after doing 23 hours of Le Mans 24 hour!

In career mode tuning setups are frequently lost between sessions (practice, qualifying) and you'll spend more time setting your car up, re-doing unsaved setups and force feedback settings, if you have a wheel, than actually driving.

The AI drivers frequently cheat, smash you off the track and go faster off track than you can on track. They never crash out of a race or retire even though the chance of that happening to you is high as this is a racing sim as advertised but the AI aren't very well simulated.

Multiplayer is just a demolition derby most of the time as penalties/ flags are non existent for bad driving but you'll get a penalty for someone smashing you off the track!....great!

Don't dare complain on the official forum as you'll get abused and shouted down by SMS, head of studio Ian Bell and the rest of the brown-nosers that are the WMD community.
To top it all off SMS started working on Pcars2 a few months ago when Pcars1 is in a shocking excuse of a game!

Games are designed to entertain this so called game will leave any new user baffled as to how it works, there is no explanation in the control settings menu as to how any of the sliders effect control its just blank. It’s as though you are required to know how every detail of a car works before you play. Driving in a straight line using the default controls is a technical impossibility. Attempt to turn right then left for example at an apex and the weight shifts so violently the car will instantly slide in the opposite direction. Fans will say the controls must be tweaked to suit your playing style. As a new user I don’t have one yet and the lack of assistance or any sort of guidance as to what to tweak and how my tweaks effect gameplay is frustrating. As there is no in game modification of controls I must suffer through constant loading screens to tweak controls then more loading screens to see the effect. After attempting to play the game for the past week and trawling through forums for a user friendly control setup I have yet to complete a race. In terms of graphics, benchmark it against the much cheaper driveclub and you will see just how bad a pc to console port can be when compared to a console build. The damage is technically ok and trust me you will experience this first hand on your first corner however it’s a generation behind. The cracks in the windows look like they have been created in ms paint. The textures are straight out of playstation 2 development kit guide. The physics may be sim but it certainly doesn’t look or feel like how you would expect a car to act, unless you’re playing with some sort of steering rig the physics do not respond controller gestures as you would expect. For example you would expect a RWD BMW’s wheels to spin smoothly when throttled aggressively with no traction control or anti spin assists instead they jitter and catch grip un expectedly. When I’m in a 500+hp BMW I expect the engine to overpower the tire treads not to somehow catch grip of something and be launched forward for one frame and loose grip in the next. A sign something is very wrong with the physics is when doing doughnut’s in a RWD car you would expect the back end to spin around out wildly and outpace the front, yet somehow this sim offers a very controlled almost locked in turning circle with the rear wheels spinning but as if on tracks. Some may say it’s not sim to do doughnut’s on a track which is fine but as a sim I fully expected the physics would allow it yet they don’t making the physics very unrealistic for a claimed simulator. Overall project cars lacks any sort of fun, it’s an infuriating grind to accomplish any sort of victory which is rendered hollow by the fact that the time and energy spent could have been used carving out a real racing career and I could almost guarantee it would be far easier. The main attraction is the career mode that turns out to be very bland in all aspects. You start off racing go-karts with a company you sign with at the beginning of your career, as you win races better offers will come from different companies in a new kind of racing. As you progress through the career mode you realize that there is no variety in this game whatsoever: you go into a race to qualify, compete in a sprint race and then the final race of that event, the person with the most points win the event. The only varieties within the game are the cars; the tracks do not change, and lack any setting change. I was hoping to be driving along some nice European mountains, through the inner cities of Japan, but that is not the – it is the same tracks over and over again.

Project Cars is a game that is not worth the time or the headache, it is nothing but a very big bore. With the lack of modes except for the Career mode and lack of tracks Project Cars is not even worth renting.

    Physics:
I'm a hard sim fan, I have a playseat, wheel, clutch and H shifter. All I have to say about physics is that the game feels more as an arcade than a sim. There is no connection to the road, driving with or without abs doesn't make much of a difference in dry conditons. Damage system is weak, when you crash it doesn't feel like a crash at all... Forcefeel mapping for certain tracks is dull. Overall conclusion is that physics are great for an arcade, and just avarage dor a sim.

    Other:
Content is poor, but this has room to improve with DLCs. Most tracks aren't laser scanned, which feels just dull after driving on nordschleife Assetto Corsa. AI is decent and MP is promising. And weather physics are almost excellent.

The driving is tricky and requires skill and patience, with each car handling very differently. This is not a game for the casual arcade racer.

Unfortunately the game fails in all other areas. I found the career mode really dull. There are no rewards or unlocks and the races are really easy, unless you manually adjust the AI to make it more difficult to win. A strange choice. Much as the vaunted "Freedom" may have sounded good, it provides no incentive to progress, and allows rookies to jump straight into the most difficult multiplayer and wreck others races.

It's multiplayer where the game both shines and provides the greatest let down. If you manage to find a "clean" race with a sensible qualification period and lap count, the game is an absolute blast. Unfortunately you'll mostly be playing public games which are like the wild west and filled with trolls. While this is no fault of Slightly Mad Studios, they have provided no features in Multiplayer to punish bad players. When you're punted off the track or rear ended by a troll, it's most often you that will be punished for corner cutting. The lack of penalties for trolls can be rage inducing.

Add to this the lack of cars (almost no Japanese cars is very disappointing), slow menu loading (with no egg timer to show that anything is happening) MP joining bugs and crashes (5 or so in a week) a potentially awesome game ends as just ok. A missed opportunity.

The career mode is simple. You can select various paths to climb the motorsport ladder. There are also time trials and practice modes available, not to mention weekly online events for prizes.
The multiplayer is well structured. 16-players can compete together in various settings such as different weather, qualifying & private races.

Due to the game being community funded, it is clear some car manufacturers were hesitant on allowing their cars to be manipulated into the game, but DLC is on the way to expand on each series. The track list is fantastic, featuring many classic circuits around the globe which are missed on other games. Furthermore, in case some of the audience were wondering, Project CARS is very different to the Need for Speed Shift series, which was an arcade racer. Some motorsport fanatics may be frustrated with the lack of compatible wheels on the Playstation 4, but pairing a recommended wheel with Project CARS is jaw-dropping.

Project CARS is possibly the best racing game on consoles ever. Despite a few glitches in the physics on release, the physics and handling model is almost as good as those found in racing sims like Assetto Corsa. Fans of the TOCA series should really enjoy this. Slightly Mad Studios has a bright future with this series. A community based game, featuring what the fans really want, can provide huge success. This is the case here. A must-buy for hardcore racing fans.

The Bad - Glitches. I was sent spinning off the track during a rolling start when the CPU controlled my car. The game froze on the last corner in another race, (a race I was leading). Moving up in career mode, and getting contracts isn't as easy as they make it seem. Spent three years in Karts waiting for a contract to a higher series. Menu is a little confusing, but not terrible. When I press the gas (with my TS300 wheel or gamepad) the car doesn't respond. I can change gears, turn the wheel, rev the engine...BUT THE CAR WON'T GO!!! Not sure what happened, but a game can't be any good if it doesn't work. I'm pretty pissed about this because I traded in all my other racing games for this game, and after one day of play...it's toast.

Final Verdict - This game had great promise, and maybe it can still live up to some with major patch work. They should've delayed it another year to get it right. I'll be looking forward to the F1 2015 release next month...I may even trade this game in for it. Right now, I feel like I've been robbed of $60.

Lots of people are saying the handling is realistic but given it is very hard to control a normal car going around a corner at 60mph I am not sure, driving a real car is easier at that level.

If you are after a sim racing game where you practice over and over, qualify over and over and then race then you are in for a good time. If you are like me and get bored with a track quickly then this probably isn't for you.

I should say I did not try this game with a wheel and I would have liked to but the wheel options for ps4 is an £80 with no feedback or a £270 one with...no thanks.

    Pros:

    * Lots to do
    * Cars look nice

    Cons:

    * handling is poor/difficult with a controller
    * standard graphics in the day time on a normal track is bland
    * not a lot of atmosphere

In may ways Project Cars is the game I was expecting for years, but its also disappointing in many ways.

First you should know is this not a racing game about tuning, customizing, getting an engine boost, improving XP and other poorly implemented RPG elements. Its a game about racing. You can drive any car you want, in any track you want. If you want to drive a McLaren in you first race, you can.

This approach was a hit for me, since I never thought its fair to pay full price for a racing game where most of its cars and game modes are locked from the beginning.

Cars available will satisfy most of the racing fans, from 70s F1 cars to McLaren P1 super sport car. But to be honest the list is not long as you would expect and desire. To other side, the amount of tracks available will put to shame most racing games around.

Gameplay (driving) is superb, as long as you find out the ideal controller configuration for you. Its almost impossible to drive with the default dual-shock settings. Every car is a completely different animal and offer you different approaches in races. Some of them are really fun to drive. The game did an amazing job in letting you feel the car.

Setting up play a huge part here. Every track/car combination means a different kind of set up. The way you adjust you car may affect drastically the performance and the way the car reacts to your driving style. The bad part of this: the game do a poor job explaining itself. it means you find yourself searching the youtube and gaming forums looking for a decent track/car setup and you will never know if which setup is ideal to your driving style.

I'm still waiting for a game that will make a good use of the race engineer. You race engineer could help you to find the ideal car/track adjustment. Its a little frustrating, because we are talking about a game designed for PS4/XBOX1 and high end PCs and the race engineer here is only a voice saying useless things in the radio "You are P1", "Great driving".

Despite the game advising you to consult your race engineer prior to setting up, in the official forum of the game the developers answered: "You're gonna have to do your homework or find a nice nerd friend.". Thats a huge miss. Race engineers are important for a reason.

The game has a slide difficult bar that goes from 0% to 100%, so you can fairly adjust the AI to your driving abilities. Thats one of the best features of the game, since one of the biggest problems in racing games that usually feature the classic easy, normal, hard levels, is the huge differences between those levels. In one difficult there will be a 2 seconds per lap gap between you and the P2. In the next level you will struggle to in the last positions.

To other side the Ai skills suffer a bit as long as your set the bar higher. Racing is not only about driving fast. Overtaking and defending your position play a huge part in the process. In Project Cars Ai only understand what is drive fast. 100% difficult Ai will give you a huge challenge, but the cpu controlled opponents doesn't know how to overtake or defend position. If they are faster than you, they will probably try to make a kamikaze overtake in the first corner. The outcome is usually you car destroyed or going off track. Its a nightmare to race in open-wheel categories, since they are more sensitive to this kind of aggression. At some point I realized I had to turn the damage off in order to enjoy most of the races.

Career mode is almost immersive. Empty boxes and stationary crowd hurts the experience, as do the dull presentation. The teams are presented by generic badges with no colors. You don't even know the livery of your car before signing the contract. You can choose your driver number before entering a new career, but that number won't be in your car as you race. You can't choose a customized helmet. Every single race your driver you be using a different helmet, and thats a problems for open-wheel races where the helmets are as iconic as the cars liveries. The championship opponents performances are random. The driver who won last race, will be out of points for the next 3 GPs. It means you can easily become a champions if you are no more than regular, like ending 3rd and 4th every single race.

Like I said before, race engineer only says useless things on the radio, so you don't know when people behind you are pitting and for many laps he won't even say the gap between you and who's behind or in front of you.

Online multiplay is fun, but the menu is bad implemented. For example, you must enter a lobby before getting to know the game settings (assists on/off, how many laps, qualify time). If you don't like this lobby, you must leave the entire online mode and enter it again in order to see the lobbies list again. Very far from useful.A wild variety of bugs also hurts the online experience.

Engine sound is a highlight. Graphics are decent, but not superb.

Good game that could be great with improvements.

Career mode offers a wide range of racing categories from which you can choose with Invitational's which give you chance to drive different cars as you go through. The button configuration is brilliant with plenty of options to choose from to make the controller as comfortable as you need.

It's the first racing game to present fully dynamic day/night cycle, weather, and track (grip changes based on traffic, weather), combined with advanced tire and car physics that not only rival but actually exceet of kinds like Assetto Corsa or even Iracing. Starting from tires that react not only to track tempertures and cool/heat up based on the track tempertures but also by the tempertures of the brakes (that properly simulated by heat and wear) and rims that function as a heatsink, tires age and blister physically if abused, flatspots can lead to punctures and hitting walls or other cars hard causes the tires/suspensition to misalign. Volumetric throttle that is affected by weather/humidity and altitude is just one component of so many that are so highly detailed and simulated that once you grasps and feel the difference it makes when you drive with cars in this simulation at the limit, that it starts to immerse you to a whole nother level.

The amazing graphics and sound vastly help bringing and aiding the immersion and the sense of speed is incredible. Project Cars is very well optimized and runs exceptionally well even on older Nvidia GPU's however AMD GPU drivers still need a lot of work but that is a common problem.

Another highlight of Project Cars are the incredible cars. They are the most detailed and best build cars in any racing game to date. The game is worth a purchase just for the cars and their amazing sounds alone and with the combination of the previously mentioned top-class physics.

The racing tracks, which most are laser scanned, are build with huge attention to detail and passion and easily compete with reference racing tracks from likes of Iracing. Even the ones that are not laser scanned have realistically placed bumps which bring your Forcefeedback to life.

Forcefeedback is another area where Project Car shines and leaves it's compeditors in its digital dust. It's highly adjustable/configureable to tailor anyones preferences and no sign of canned/faked effects but instead full of details that immerses you further to another level. The FFB is class leading beating already great Iracing FFB.

The racing AI is excellent, aggressive but respectful of your car if you respect theirs. Give them room just like in real life, they will give you room as well. Side by side racing is not only very possible with that approach but happens all the time.

The sheer amount of content you get in form of cars and tracks make this a great buy and highly recommendation for any racing/driving game fan! The level of immersion by graphics, sound, physics is something that can't be described by words but HAS to be experienced on your own.

A mild warning, once you go to Project Cars and get fully immersed, you can't really go back to other simulators, it's that GOOD!

    Enjoy racing everyone!

Lots of tuning options for you sim racers or if your a bit more casual at racing games like me then the stock setting is still good.

The game is very much tailored to the user in almost every dept, you want to start at F1 you can, you dont have to unlock anything in this game its all there ready for you. You can still start at the bottom and work our way up if you want to though. So this is a good racing game, but it falls short of being a great one.

Problems plague this game as its clearly unfinished. The Ai can be inconsistent, causing all sorts of problems like ramming you off the track, ignoring the weather, ramming themselves into walls for no reason, your car also seems to flip over very easy when contact is made. The game also doesnt explain anything to you , you are left in the dark as to what does what , the digital manual is useless.

But as ever im sure all these problems will be addressed in future patch's but for now its very buggy. This shouldn't put you off buying the game though as it will give you endless fun.

The game can be frustrating to start with if you use a pad. It took me the best part of nine days to find the right deadzone and sensitivity settings, which I achieved after hours of free practice on numerous tracks using numerous cars. Project CARS is so rewarding once the right configuration is in place though.

The only thing stopping this from getting a ten is the lack of vehicle content. This will most likely be sorted with a plethora of future DLC, but for now the game loses a mark for this. With 150-200 cars and specifically more road cars, this is a GT and Forza killer.

However, the cars in the game all handle drastically different and each one presents a unique challenge when trying to master the handling which is cool.

The car selection in this game is around 2/3 race cars and 1/3 "other" so if you're hoping to race around in consumer-grade road cars you'll probably be disappointed.

There doesn't seem to be any music during the race, which will turn off some.

The controls are decent though I wish it was easier to modify the controls. You can--in theory--but the control menu that allows you to do so is so confusing it's best to simply learn the default controls.

There's a ton of real-world tracks to choose from, although many of them have quite boring backdrops. It's hard to blame the game devs though since they probably didn't want to embellish any details that weren't there at the actual race track.

The driving assists in this game do not--repeat--DO NOT give the game an "arcade" feel, it's a sim through and through. If you want an arcade-type racer on Ps4, check out Driveclub.

There isn't "Credit" or "Money" to spend on new upgrades or rims It's more about learning how to tweak your cars Tire Pressure, Gear Ratios and other settings that let you make your car your own. The graphics in Project Cars are phenomenal, some scenes seem almost real with the amount of detail put into the vehicles or tracks themselves. The crowd still looks like it's from a PS2 Game but you will hardly notice them. The ability to tweak the difficulty the way you want it makes the game much more enjoyable when you are looking for a challenge but still want a chance, you can choose between CPU Difficulty, Driver Assists and other options to help you. Weather effects like Rain look good in Project Cars but I have seen better in other Sim Racers like DriveClub. If you are a fan of Sim Racers you will really enjoy Project Cars with it's lifelike game-play and fairly good car selection but if you a fan of more forgiving arcade racers like Forza or Need for Speed you may not enjoy Project Cars and it's unforgiving handling. I have been playing Racing Sims of one variety or another on all platforms for decades. This is what I've been looking for all that time. Challenging almost human-like AI, great graphics, realistic racing (online and offline) and handling, superb sounding cars. You can even hear the suspension creaking/flexing under you.  Hit a wall and it sounds exactly like you'd expect.

Challenging almost human-like AI, great graphics, realistic racing (online and offline) and handling, superb sounding cars. You can even hear the suspension creaking/flexing under you.  Hit a wall and it sounds exactly like you'd expect.

Ultimately the best part of the simulation is the physics of driving.  At a physics level it's more advanced and realistic than iRacing,  RFactor and (Game) Stock Car Extreme (I haven't got a PC strong enough for Assetto Corsa nor PCARS (hence PS4).  It's also better by a long way compared to Gran Turismo 6 or Forza Motorsport 5.

The force feedback at launch is great but can be improved upon by entering the "Jack Spade" settings at the project cars official forum.

That brings me onto options. There are many, many of them in the game. Some are about setting the graphics and sounds as you want them. Some are about tailoring the gameplay to how you want to play whether that's in single player or multiplayer.

Every single car in the game is a joy to drive with big variation in the handling. Each car has multiple liveries in the game (some over 20).

The cars drive well using default settings whether on wheel (T300RS + pedals and shifter) or DS4 controller. You can change settings for wheel and controllers to your style of driving.  With aids off or set to realistic (whatever the real car has) you have to drive as you would a real car. I'm lucky enough to have driven real life high performance road and race cars on race tracks (although I haven't raced for real). This is the closest I have got to that feeling (previously it was the excellent Stock Car Extreme on PC). If I make a mistake it's clear to me what I did wrong as it feels so close to driving a real car.  Throttle and brakes work with the fine level of control that you don't get with the likes of GT6.

There are a few bugs in the game at launch but nothing that has spoiled my enjoyment enough to take marks away. Personally I don't see myself needing another video game for many years.  SMS deserve a lot of credit for this. They have committed to fully supporting the game with regular updates and many further DLC packs (some free, some paid).

Then this is clearly the only answer available today with physics that can translate to actually being a racing sim.

Bad: The AI is horrible.... It is the only major flaw to the game other then a lack luster car list... the Ai is so focused on running a pre designed racing line that it doesn't care if you even existed... They will crash into you, Cutt you off, P.I.T. you.. As far as the A.I. is concerned you don't even exist.. Project cars does have a toggle for how hard the A.I is.... 1-100... when it is maxed the A.I. is somewhat more competent.. Still their driving line > anything that is in the way. With an actual competitive intuitive A.I... Project cars would be a master piece.

Best driving game on PS4. Dualshock settings needed tweaking – and they're still not perfect – before really getting some enjoyment out of the game. Career is great and non-linear. GT has lost it's crown due to dull sound and physics. It simply can't compare to this, or Assetto Corsa, for that matter.

    - While the AI is not perfect and sometimes seems to have an unfair advantage over you in terms of damage, tire wear, and cutting corners, they don't behave mechanically and drive in a straight line as I've seen in other racing sims
    - You can actually destroy your car and lose the race because of it ... unlike racing sims where you can hit a wall head-on at 200 MPH and just drive off and win
    - It looks gorgeous, of course, and sounds amazing
    - You can save your replays for later viewing

I'm not saying it's a perfect game, but this is the first racing sim for the PlayStation that keeps me coming back.

So anyway, I agree with other users, the menus and UI are not that user friendly and there is a lack of detail on the tracks (empty boxes, poor quality spectators and landscape). The design of the career mode it not the best in my opinion, I'd prefer clearer menus and also having cars or categories to look forward too, that you can unlock by winning races. Having EVERYTHING unlocked from the beginning is an aproach I don't like.

On the other hand the car, the sound and the handling are really really cool.

The different views are really fun, in fact it's on of those games where you can actually play from inside the car and you can see the corners coming, because there are so many games that the only view from inside the car you can see NOTHING because the camera is so low.

I'm not a hardcore simulator player, I don't tweak the settings, I just enjoy driving the game with realistic settings and improving lap times and winning races and with this game the handling is so complex, so challenging and feels so real it's extremely fun to master. Lighting effects and sound are superb.

    Highly recommended!

The driving line when is tuned on it´s very annoying too. I prefer the Forza type, where we can choose on, off or just breaking line. In Project Cars even in the rearview mirror we can see it!! The number of cars it´s also another negative point. Kart races are a joke too. Main menu and racing menus are confusing.

The menus can be a bit confusing during the online play, often I get a different car than the one i wanted. And why is there no punishment for those annoying players who drive in the wrong direction and ram into other cars on purpose?

Another problem with this game is that not all car interiors are well made, some cars just have a black interior without any details.

Anyway this is one of the best racing games I have played on the PlayStation 4. There is a good balance between realism and playability, the handling of the cars is really good (you don't spin out like crazy as soon as you hit the grass) and the graphics are spot on.

One little detail that I have noticed in just about every racegame though: why are the developers showing raindrops allover the screen when you are playing in first person mode? Are you supposed to drive around holding a television screen or a big window in your hands?

The driving simulation is possibly the best of any racer I've played. For the sheer weight and feel of a car it beats GT by a long way. On this aspect alone the game would score an easy 10.

This is an excellent racing simulator, and one that isn't afraid of pitching you into the barriers at the slightest mistake. For that very reason, it is not a game for rookies. The excellent graphics and gameplay are slightly let down by often dodgy AI (sometimes too slow, sometimes too aggressive), but the vast array of assists and difficulty settings help to balance this out.

Tons of tracks and cars most of which are very well simulated.

I know most of the reviewers did not like the career. But for me it was real fun, because of the slow progress. The concept of having practice sessions and qualifying is something I was missing in all the other console games. You really have to learn the tracks and cars before you can achieve something. Every car you learn to drive handles differently and every track has its tricky parts.

I will admit the KI has its flaws and the game was never completely bug free but the concept of it all is very enjoyable. Therefore I don`t award it a 10.

There is one thing you will definetly not find within this game: fun.

The tracks look and are boring, the cars and graphics are ok. I knew beforehand that this a hardcore simulation but the car controls are just torture. Imagine turning off every ABS, traction control etc in another racing game so that the cars are difficult to control. Now Imagine you still can't control them often

Welcome to Project cars.

Having no progression in career mode is just wrong and no fun at all.

I tried playing online and I found not a single race where guys drove automatic. And way too many **** kart races.
Why is there no option or any people willing to go for a quick ride? Hell you can do that in every racing game... no you wait for eternity to just get wrecked in a manual race with **** cars (karts)

I know those complaints can be summed down to I can play that game but I never had a problem with any racing games ever... so think there is something wrong here.

I can not recommend this to anyone except you own a steering wheel and had fun playing Dark Souls with a drum from guitar hero or something like that.

I seldom buy games and regret it but this one I did for sure.

The game doesn't deserve more than a 0 for me because it literally doesn't work. Whenever I get into a online lobby I get a notification that I got "removed" by the system. It only happens in the game and for two months I have not managed to play the game. I tried to solve it but nothing works. I don't recommend this game.

Unfortunately if you don't pay attention to details you'll spend a lot of time on invitational events instead of progressing through campaing. Also at end of season you have to check carefully list of contracts received in order to be sure you'll progress to next class and don't spend another year in same category.
Some are complaining about how PC is almost impossible to play on controller but with a good car setup things are completely different and this can be confirmed by playing with a car who's having a good default setup like Oreca LMP2, Dallara indycar or Formula Rookie.

Pro: graphics, weather effects, tire wear, number of cars and tracks, car handling
Cons: campaign progression (see above), weak AI, reckless multiplayer races, menu interface

    Unplayable..
I have been a gamer for 20 years.. Yet I habe never seen a game as terrible! The AI is straight up cheating.. The menu choices and the way they appear afer a rav is stupid..
You finish a race first then you get the enu of continue.. Restart or exit and for some reason the selection is always on restart or exit so that if you press X immediately you may restar the whole damn

The cars spin on their own.. I restarted that one race for more than 10 times and it's just obvious that they don't want me to win it.. Everytime the car spms in the same straight line for absolutely no reason!!
I habe never had a wors experience in my life.. Not to mention tht I once finished a race in lat place yet for some reason I won it afterwards..
Overall I don't advise anyone to buy this piece of crap.. I boght it along with PC2 for about 20$ from the PS store in a discount and I really feel cheated and I totally regret buying them.. If only I could get a refund..

Best simulator you could buy in console before PC2, bad simulator compared to those on PC. Really bad story mode.

Solid Forza Motorsport-style racing sim with plenty of customisation options, a decent balance between arcade and simulation style handling and all of the prerequisite vehicles and tracks. Not exactly spectacular, but it does exactly what it says on the tin.

The career mode is really bad made, so i usually play casual games that get boring very fast. I gave It a 6 becouse the AI IS really realistic, as the driving stile. Also the ui is really boring, so i think that i won't last more than 40 minutes on this game

Not sure what all the bad reviews are for.

This, other than PC2, is likely the best game on PS4 in terms of realism with regards to handling. Its mot a game to buy for flair and cute menus. Go buy NFS if thats what you want. If you want realistic handling, get Project Cars. Weakest point for me would be how slowly the career progresses and how realistically its just like a host of arcade

Weakest point for me would be how slowly the career progresses and how realistically its just like a host of arcade races made up for you into championships. Theres no real feeling of progression other than racing in bigger cars later on.

Graphically stunning, dynamically awesome, aurally beautiful. This is what Project Cars could have been if pest control had done a better job exterminating those pesky bugs. [Issue#258, p.66]
