This game has nothing in common with the 2006 Prey game, but it is still pretty enjoyable. It has great graphics, nice blend of horror and action, and some good RPG elements.

This game is awesome, the enemies are creepy, the game plays with your perception of reality, the weapons are creative and fun, plus there is a small bit of stealth in the game that is completely optional. Since Dishonored and Dishonored 2 from Arkane, I've loved what they as a studio have recently been known for, and no doubt Prey can hold up to those titles.

The game can be difficult at times (even on normal) but it's really only because you seem to lose health rather quickly. Other than that, I've seen issues from some users about input lag but it seems to pretty hit or miss for that. I'd say this is a great reboot of Prey, and well deserves your money if you are looking for a fun and creepy mind-bending game.

Music selection is unusual yet brilliant & blends well to this dark & scary tale which consists of many jump frights. There's plenty of weapons & abilities to unlock which all feel great I just wish there were a larger variety of ALIEN ENEMIES to take on such as the great games like the previously mentioned DOOM. There's still a lot of game to explore, interact & have fun with however & I'm HAPPY with my purchase thus far. I feel like I;m playing Bioshock 1 and 2 updated to 2017, and that is a great thing...I do miss the little sisters but everything else about this game takes the best elements from Bio 1 and 2 and updates/renames/recasts them in a new universe. A great mix of action, tension ("IS that a mimic or not?"), horror and sci fi. Dont miss this!!!

Long-time, no-review. But I don't think people know what a good game is anymore.

In short: this game is not fun. It failed to elicit even the tiniest bit of joy at any time. It is not without merit though:

    The Good:
it doesn't hold your hand - no cutscenes, minimal tutorials. This is rare nowadays.

    However, the Bad:
The combat is awful. And sadly, when this is the case, nothing can save a game. Gunplay is sluggish and weightless. By comparison, even Fallout 3, say, was more satisfying.

The enemies are poorly designed. I think this might be the biggest problem with the game. There is literally nothing less interesting to shoot than a nebulus gloop of black stink-lines. They do not react to hits, and soon had me groaning "uugh" when I saw another, instead of looking forward to another exciting encounter. The way they move does not make for fun battles, teleporting around with abandon, which instead of being thrilling and challenging, ends up just being frustrating. For instance, the whole AOE attack from Phantoms - come on, that only works in third-person games. The sounds they make do not seem to match their design. How this could have been fixed: ditch the teleporting, make the enemies more 'solid', with clearer hit animations, more enemies with less health.

The space station has no character(s). The whole place is empty and hollow - while this might be intentional, the whole experience starts to feel soulless. YOU have no character, and there are no people to speak of/to. How this could have been fixed: have Morgan do frequent narration, even just reacting to a crazy event, for instance. ("What the hell?")

The inventory system is messy. I applaud the game for trying to be a proper RPG, with you having to think carefully about resorce management. But to be honest, it goes too far, and had me loathing the times I knew I would have to craft something. How this could have been fixed: more ammo lying around, so at least crafting could be optional.

In my opinion, if gameplay is naff, the game is naff. To this end - Prey is the opposite of Doom, which was literally run-and-gun-fun, which did not once have me thinking "I wish it had more RPG elements." This game has shed-loads of the latter, but had me wishing for Doom-like gunplay. At the end of the day, making yourself more powerful means nothing if you don't feel more powerful.

There is no story to speak of.

This is a very, very poor-man's version of Bioshock that might have stood up ten years ago, but is just not good enough for 2017. This is the least fun I've had playing a game for a long time.

The worst game of the year. Graphics - 2007, not 2017. Story - an endless gathering of notes and audio files. Music is a farting and set of annoying sounds. The gameplay is the destruction of the endless spam of monotonous enemies and crafting cubes.
The game resembles a mixture of BioShock and System Shock. This game has no originality and is terribly boring.

A more than recommended and quality game that took me about 35 hours to complete. The only negative thing I can blame it for is its excessive loading times when changing zones, in this sense it feels like a previous generation game, at least on PS4, it reminded me of the loading times of 'The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion' on PS3. Otherwise if this isn't a drawback for you, it's an excellent game. Highly recommended. Expand

Really, it's just a great game to get lost in.

But there are a few downsides. The designs of the enemies could've been more diverse. I don't dislike the black oily freaks, but it needs more variation. But the main thing working against this game is how in the latter half of the game you are just going back and forth through the station too much. By this time you will have been to every area a lot already (especially if you're like me and try to do everything you can), so near the end of the game you just get annoyed hearing you have to go back to the place you just came from, where the enemies will have re-spawned as well. That really is the major drag on this game. Oh, and the story could've used a bit more substance and time, especially near the end of the game.

Other than that it's a great game.

The storyline is OK, it isn't the most riveting storyline I've seen in a game but the voice acting is good quality which helps tremendously. For me these games aren't about story anyhow, they are about having these lovely intricate environments to explore that are packed full with interesting things to see and do. All in all, a top game by one of the best studios around and I sincerely hope it's lackluster sales don't mean Arkane stop making these types of brilliant games because the industry would be very much the poorer for it. Prey is a game that I bought on a whim, with absolutely no information or prior knowledge on what the game is or about. What I ended up experiencing was one of my favorite games I played in 2018, something surprisingly extensive and enthralling.

To start with the pros, I have to say the greatest strength of this game is the level design/exploration; I was always shocked with how many different ways there were to get almost every single task done. Simple objectives such as finding a way to get through a locked door could be solved by many completely different means (crawling through a maintenance shaft, forcing it open with abilities, hidden pathways, finding its keycard, etc). Prey gives the player the freedom to think critically to solve problems in super creative ways, and it paid off immensely. By the end of the game, I was looking high up at the ceilings for alternate routes in rafters, creating my own platforms with the awesome Gloo Gun, taking out tough hordes of enemies with goofy strategies that somehow worked, and forging my own path through the game's world. I was given the freedom, and I learned to use it to my advantage, and it felt oh so insanely rewarding.

Beyond that, the graphics, world building, lore, characters, and side quests are all top-notch. There are a staggering amount of small details throughout the game that build the world around you and truly make it feel engrossing, and even plausible. I was surprised many times as I progressed through the story, and found myself always wanting to learn, see, and do more.

Building your own set of weapons and abilities was a treat as well. I found I was incentivized to always figure out what powers, abilities, and items worked best for me to solve the problems as I saw fit. There were consequences, both good and bad, to all decisions I made in regards to my character. This even applies to the story as well. You are just given so many options for practically everything in this game, it just boggles my mind, and I find it hard to stop mentioning or praising it.

It is hard for me to find any large faults with this game, but I will say its biggest downfall are the loading times. The game is treated as a somewhat open-world, with large areas loaded at once that you can access through different doors and elevators. The loading times between sections of the ship can last around a minute or longer. By the end of the game, when you have the whole ship opened up and are running around from place to place to get things done, those mentioned loading times get truly egregious. I found myself hitting loading screens three times within 10 minutes getting certain tasks done, and the waiting was getting super aggravating.

Another fault would have to the how bloated the game starts to feel at the end. This is a problem with almost all open-world type games. There just became too much to do, and I began to feel fatigued and just started rushing to the end of the storyline.

As a last minor complaint, some of the traversal was a bit glitchy or unreliable at points. Never enough to be a big problem, but annoying at times.

I don't want to completely spoil this for people who haven't played, because experiencing it for the first-time was so awesome for me. However, there is this being that shows up eventually in the game that is incredibly powerful and pursues you at random points, and it was one of my favorite mechanics in the game. It added many great thrills and improvised moments that kept things fresh as the game went on.

Overall, Prey is a fantastic game. I was always surprised by what it had to offer; so much player choice, detail, world-building, and polish. It has its annoying moments here and there, and drags on a bit towards the end, but it is a gaming experience I will always remember very fondly. So glad I happened to pick it up.

The enemies have a creepy wibe, especially at the beginning when you have not many tools at your disposal. Weapons used by the character are unique, each having a certain use for different types of enemies. Also able to upgrade them was a big plus for me.
The story is well bracnhed and side characters are well made. Exploring the map gives more information about the world and setting you're in, which motivated me for learning what was going on. As the game progresses, you will be put in front of some certain choices, which directly impact the game ending, letting you decide what moral choices does your character have.
Gameplay is pretty fun, but the shooting mechanics sometimes lack, being compensated only by the RPG elements.
I will give this a 9/10 just because stealth system lacks , even though there is one. This is a must play game and if it would have an another name than "Prey", it wouldn't be criticised by certain die-hard fans of the older version.
