    Good:
I did like the story. I did get very addicted when stuck on certain levels. This game makes you think, many ways to solve a problem. Weapons were creative. Bad Many of the deaths just didn't make sense, very aggravating. Way path was often very difficult to figure out. The opening of the game makes you want to learn more about what's happening. I like that the game doesn't want you to attack enemies head on, but to sneak and evade combat . Recycling system is a nice thing, too. Now for the cons.. There is a lot of backtracking as i push forward through the story. Variety of enemies is not very big, and later on they become so annoying and boring. I only liked the mimics, the rest is standard generic enemies, especially the phantoms, which have only one voice effect, and later it gets very annoying when you sneak and listening that one same voice over and over and over. Detection system sometimes gets really clunky, i think that in Dishonored it was better. The last third of the game was the worst for me, because of constant backtracking from one end of Talos to another, but not only that. The game throws ten times more enemies in the same area that you went already, and it doesn't add nothing interesting to the game, only pumps up the difficulty and that's it. So for me, the last 5 hours of the game was basically rushing from one objective to another, to avoid combat, and save the ammo. The game overall wasn't constant, you get one good mission, and after that you get two, three bad. It is a ok game, but nothing spectacular for me. Considering the start and the end of the game (they were excellent) , this game had a potential for something more. Expand

FPS that's best described as Bioshock in space. The only real problem is that it treads very much the same ground as Dead Space but with a more "family friendly" and sterile feel and so is nowhere *near* as good. Competently executed but lacking that extra "oomph!" that makes for a truly great game.

The gameplay is dull early on, but picks up once you get more weapons and start upgrading them. It nails the atmosphere of being in a desolate, overrun space station; and so it keeps you grounded and immersed. The graphics are pretty good too. The Typhon are interesting enemies that are made to be unsettling and tense, meaning you always have to be alert around them (especially the Mimics).

The characters are, unfortunately, pretty dull and uninteresting; there's maybe two or three of them with any substance to them. The soundtrack is also lackluster, being overly screechy and sounding like it was composed of generic dark ambient stock music overlaid with the occasional synth interlude. This doesn't impact the experience too much since the music is inoffensive at worst, meaning it's easily ignored.

The positive points here outweigh the negatives, in my opinion. The good gameplay and phenomenal atmosphere more than makes up for a somewhat mediocre soundtrack and a few uninspired characters.

The story isn’t perfect but interesting enough to get you through gameplay, as its the main driver. Its horror is a bit overblown but it does get a bit creepy. The station and art style are quite beautiful and some moments do put you in awe. The level design and abilities you get really open up the game, i wont spoil anything here but your tools interact with the world and environment in many ways which makes gameplay surprisingly fresh for its duration. The games surreal themes and eery nature really help elevate it though, making its wholly unique with everything else it does. BUY IT NOWWW, it has guns and enemies that turn into CHAIRS. Plus its world building and charm oozes throughout, if you like this game I recommend arkane studios other games too :>

From a story standpoint, I found Prey boring. Bioshock has memorable characters, moments, and an enthralling story. This game... not so much. The plot was simple and the characters were uninteresting. I honestly couldn't care less what happened to any of them. I kept waiting for some revelatory plot twist that would blow my mind and change my entire perspective of the game, hoping that it would make me care. There was a twist but they made me wait until after the credits and it was lackluster to say the least. There's an aspect to the game where you are put in "moral" positions and have to make a choice which is brought up with the twist. The problem is these decisions were run of the mill game tasks that didn't even seem important. It's hard to take these decisions seriously when you can't even tell they are part of the "evaluation".
As far as the gameplay. The powers aren't as interesting as this game's inspiration. and fighting the typhons ends up being a chore. They are blasting you with attacks that can still trigger even after you incapacitate them (which can also blast you about twenty feet in a random direction) They have elemental auras that proxy damage when your trying to conserve ammo with a melee attack. These auras are also still effective even after you completely freeze them with the gloop gun. Not to mention that they make the monsters challenging in an attempt to instill fear and even cause you to choose running away over fighting them. But it ends being pretty tedious and annoying instead of instilling any fear.
The only reason this game isn't scoring lower for me is the inclusion of some pretty interesting gameplay mechanics. Like using the gloop gun to create makeshift stairs to access otherwise unreachable areas. Or the ability to recycle a bunch of items to fabricate resources. Although that's countered by the fact that the amount of resources acquired from said items is always on the low side making it a constant struggle to stay well equipped and end up desperately searching for things to recycle. Especially when medkits and ammo stop really showing up in the environment so that you will fabricate more stuff. Another thing, sometimes key items you need to progress are in the most random of places dragging the game down as you spend twenty minutes searching for them.
So yeah, as someone who likes to replay his games, i definitely won't be popping this one in again.

Early on Morgan (you) is pretty weak, to the extent any encounter with even a slightly challenging alien is annoying and your best bet is to try and avoid them. I agree combat at first is clunky and hard to get used to. Using the pistol initially is insanely difficult and you'll miss most of your shots. Using the wrench is just as bad, especially against fast moving targets like Mimics, which you'll encounter a lot in the beginning. Until you get the shotgun / Q-Beam, combat is very challenging actually. I think most negative reviews are from those who formed their opinion of the game early on and perhaps didn't finish. I too did not enjoy the first couple of hours.

By the time you have progressed a little the game becomes far more enjoyable as you can actually take on enemies with decent strength, and use a variety of tactics to kill them quite quickly. I ultimately opted to enhance my speed, stealth and weapon damage abilities to the point I could run and gun with the shotgun and kill most enemies pretty readily by using stealth. You can kill a Phantom in 1 - 2 shots doing this.

Unfortunately if you dedicate most of your Neuromods down this path you miss out on other areas. I could not increase my hacking ability nor ability to lift heavy objects, and there are far too many doors / computers / safes that require hacking / moving heavy objects in the game that this became annoying. I left so many of these unexplored because of this. Many of the side missions are simply impossible without certain upgrades, so I had to forego them. I found it annoying when traveling between sections of the Talos I that enemies would respawn, but items you find would not. You constantly have to repeat battles as side missions take you through multiple sections of the ship. This was very annoying at first, but by the end was fine as killing enemies was much easier.

I enjoyed the fact your hand is not held throughout this game, and exploration is very fulfilling. The main story leads you through new areas of the ship constantly, which was great. The ship is full of surprises and is quite interactive, so exploring is enjoyable. I actually liked the crafting system they had in place, and I thought the overall story was quite good, albeit somewhat lonely at times. The story went much longer than I thought, just when you think you're near the end, another twist comes.

    A couple of minor frustrations:

    - Turrets are practically useless on their own, enemies destroy them with absolute ease unless you can fortify them, which is very costly in Neuromods so wouldn't be until late in the game.
    - You'll quickly pick your favorite weapon (shotgun, most likely) and end up using it the entire time. The game needs a few more weapons in my opinion.
    - Ammo is very hard to come by, you'll have to craft it, which is annoying and costly by the end when you are fighting frequently. You need to have good inventory reserves for the last few missions for ammo alone.
    - PSI points, does anyone actually use these? I completed the game without ever using the PSI ability, seemed pointless to me despite being a core part of the game.
    - Any sort of combat while on the ships exterior is horrible as you move so damn slow you can't evade anything.

What a hidden gem, just when i needed it. Deep systems overlayed on top of deep systems and exploration. think Dishonoured but with even more atmosphere and depth.
don't read anything else about this game just buy it and play it, half the fun of this game is figuring out the systems and story for your self.
ive been playing on ps4 pro / ps5 and the game runs very well.

For me the good part are the beginning and the ending, and middle part of the whole game is mediocre in my opinion. Gameplay on a console feels like a waste of time so I used story mode - FP games is best played on a PC with a mouse. The space walk is a highlight in the gameplay, unfortunately maybe the only highlight.

On top of that, I love the setting of Talos I -- an alien-infested space station trope that's executed very well--and the story, which is mostly carried by great voice-acting and solid characters, is compelling enough to keep you interested. Prey is at its strongest in the first two-thirds to three-fourths of the game, when you are constantly going to new areas and getting to experiment with all of the "play your way" mechanics the game has to offer.

Unfortunately, I found that the game got away from its core in the final act. While it is still solid, much of the true fun has ended by the time the game is headed for its conclusion. The story payoff is ultimately pretty good for a video game, but not quite good enough to justify retreading through areas you've already explored without an interesting new spin on things.

Still, it was refreshing to play a game that is trying to bring new things to the table. I have played so many "new" games in recent years that I feel like I've already played before. While there are echoes of Dishonored (also made by Arkane) and Bioshock, this game never feels like it is copying anything. And I really, really loved the majority of the game. For that reason, this is one of the better games I played from the past decade.

My BIGGEST issue was probably the fact that I played this on a console. I think this game at a locked 60fps would be a much more enjoyable experience than the 30 (with dips) that I played.

Overall a fantastic experience. I Really hope that this game gets a sequel in the future (or at least) something in the same vain.

Really, it's just a great game to get lost in.

But there are a few downsides. The designs of the enemies could've been more diverse. I don't dislike the black oily freaks, but it needs more variation. But the main thing working against this game is how in the latter half of the game you are just going back and forth through the station too much. By this time you will have been to every area a lot already (especially if you're like me and try to do everything you can), so near the end of the game you just get annoyed hearing you have to go back to the place you just came from, where the enemies will have re-spawned as well. That really is the major drag on this game. Oh, and the story could've used a bit more substance and time, especially near the end of the game.

Other than that it's a great game.

Последние игры Arkane мне очень нравятся. Я когда то прошел Dark Messiah of Might and Magic
Dishonored 2.

Juggling items in your pack quickly becomes a chore (as you need to collect junk to recycle into reusable resources), and the game is constantly throwing locks and obstacles on everything, from doors to upgrades. The weapons are bland, the graphics are bland, the environments are bland. Clearly there was some desire to evoke BioShockesque environments, but that game imbues every area with purpose and personality, whereas Prey has a bunch of different spaces. The enemies are terrible, and combat is brutal and confusing. As many others here have noted, I really enjoyed Prey for the first few hours, and then the monotony and boredom and frustration set in. 20 hours in I felt like I was treading water, quit and never went back. Prey is like the baby of Bioshock and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. I should love it and I did at the beginning. But the developers did not understand what they had because Prey progresses into a mess of a game plagued by loading screens.

My play through clocked in at over 27 hours. I estimate that at least 4 hours of that time was spent in loading screens. At the beginning, loading screens are a non-issue. You are in a survival/horror game with a rich backstory set forth in e-mails, audiologists, and the environment. The game does not have invisible walls, and as a player, you can make your way to areas that you probably should not. Enemies are frightening and each one requires a bit of strategy. I loved freedom to play at my own pace and choose my own upgrade path. If only the developers had embraced this play style.

By the end, I had to move around Talos on fetch quests and this means running from loading screen to loading screen. Enemies repopulate areas and I found the most expedient path was running right past them to the loading screen. As an example, a main mission might require me to make an item to move along the story. This can mean moving to the domed garden part of the station through 3 loading screens, picking up the plans to fabricate the item, moving through another loading screen the make it, and then 3 more loading screens to install it in the power core. Then the main mission requires another trip to the domed garden which means 3 more loading screens. Meanwhile, the game goes from one or two strategic encounters per area to a dozen evil robots and aliens spawning per loading screen. Some upgrades let you recharge your weaponized abilities over time, so you can recklessly let loose blasts all over the station to wipe out these dozens of enemies. Or you can do what I did and sprint from loading screen to loading screen because you want the game to be over with some semblance of completion.

The early game also sets up some odd expectations. No one appears to be alive except semi-sentient floating robots and hostile aliens. This is very much like Bioshock and the sense of dread is major theme of the game. Straying off the main mission path means spending more time among the dead. Then the game takes a major shift and populates the world with living NPCs. You are not given a clear path but the game does seem to make a binary choice between serving the living and expediently completing the game. An odd feature of this is that the game has many escape pods but no option to escort the living NPCS to them. Another odd feature is that the NPCs somehow move around the station unimpeded while the player character will face the hoarded of hades after each loading screen.

All-in-all, a beautiful premise and stellar gameplay are bogged down by a failed commitment to the premise and a failed understanding of gameplay. Missions could have been encapsulated in one or two areas to minimize loading screens. Remember Bioshock? You mostly moved forward without looking back. This is because new areas are fun and old areas are a chore. Developers knew this over a decade before releasing Prey. Remember Deus Ex: Human Revolution? The developers patched the game after fan outcry because the game forced players to fight every boss with brawn instead of brains. The developers had to commit to the player choice of fighting smart, and they added options to defeat bosses with stealth and strategy. Pray makes no such commitment to the path the player chooses.

A sign of poor design in any game is that it becomes a mindless shooter like Call of Duty. Prey falls prey to this trope in a couple of ways. First off, the game increases the enemy pressure at a near exponential rate until the screen is a disorienting explosion of lights. Secondly, the game gives the player offensive superpowers that regenerate over time, negating the need for ammo and strategy. On that second point, my advice is not to spend time with side missions until you collect those superpowers because enemies will very quickly outmatch the player without them.

All-in-all, Prey is a good experience that could have been one of the greatest of all time. I remember around the time of this release there was a debate about the commitment from the studios to single player games. Prey is not simply a single player game, it is rather esoteric and few reviews describe the games appeal. The game has a great story and delves into humanity and the value of emotional connections. Maybe some day the game will be remastered for the PS5 and its load screen free NVM hard drive. That would go a long way toward making Prey the game it should have been.

Full disclosure: I bought this game used for less than $5 from GameStop. I feel bad that the studio did not see a dime from me. Despite my gripes, I do not believe Prey is a throw-away title.

Estamos ante un título que pide dominar todas sus mecánicas y sistemas para salir victorioso en las dificultades más elevadas. There is variety on how to solve each section of the game, IE open door by finding key card or, find a vent to sneak through etc. But actually battling enemies can be a chore. If adventuring is more your thing, you will enjoy this, but those who like a little more action may not like it.

The enemies have a creepy wibe, especially at the beginning when you have not many tools at your disposal. Weapons used by the character are unique, each having a certain use for different types of enemies. Also able to upgrade them was a big plus for me.
The story is well bracnhed and side characters are well made. Exploring the map gives more information about the world and setting you're in, which motivated me for learning what was going on. As the game progresses, you will be put in front of some certain choices, which directly impact the game ending, letting you decide what moral choices does your character have.
Gameplay is pretty fun, but the shooting mechanics sometimes lack, being compensated only by the RPG elements.
I will give this a 9/10 just because stealth system lacks , even though there is one. This is a must play game and if it would have an another name than "Prey", it wouldn't be criticised by certain die-hard fans of the older version.

Definitely underrated. I jumped into this game recently after learning that it is originally from 3D Realms. I like how the game is a bit long and how it has basically only pistols and shotguns as firearms (AFAIR and if there are others I just didn't find them in the game). Honestly I love this game. This game has an amazing story and it’s not supposed to be a fast paced shooter. It’s supposed to be more of a journey through a space station and that’s what it does without a hitch.

Prey is one of the of the best games I've played in the past 5 years, unfortunately kneecapped by unacceptable load times and a sudden lack of player direction. If a patch were released today that cut load times in half, I would be downloading it for another 40 hours on top of my existing 100 hours+.

This game is just fantastic in so many ways. A thinking man's game to be certain.

I have given up playing it a few hours into it because I have found the missions banal and the controls awkward. On the easiest difficulty I can avoid repetitive deaths, however the enemies are bullet-sponges and hard to hit that went beyond a lack of skill on my part, I think. The straw that broke the camel's back for me was a mission requiring me to collect data to construct a voice pattern in order to open a door. When I saw that each piece of data only represented 10% of what I needed, I was finally deterred completely. Collecting each 10% was monotonous and more of a nuisance than fun or entertaining.

There is a shell of a decent game here, however that decent game is Deus Ex; Prey feels like a failed copycat. The RPG elements of upgrading my skills made little difference to my experience. The game itself is fairly buggy and looks like they abandoned it shortly after launch.

Overall, there is just little that stands out here. In a sea of mediocre games I could not see anything special about Prey. There are plenty of better games out there to lighten your wallet and fill your time.

Prey is a game that I bought on a whim, with absolutely no information or prior knowledge on what the game is or about. What I ended up experiencing was one of my favorite games I played in 2018, something surprisingly extensive and enthralling.

To start with the pros, I have to say the greatest strength of this game is the level design/exploration; I was always shocked with how many different ways there were to get almost every single task done. Simple objectives such as finding a way to get through a locked door could be solved by many completely different means (crawling through a maintenance shaft, forcing it open with abilities, hidden pathways, finding its keycard, etc). Prey gives the player the freedom to think critically to solve problems in super creative ways, and it paid off immensely. By the end of the game, I was looking high up at the ceilings for alternate routes in rafters, creating my own platforms with the awesome Gloo Gun, taking out tough hordes of enemies with goofy strategies that somehow worked, and forging my own path through the game's world. I was given the freedom, and I learned to use it to my advantage, and it felt oh so insanely rewarding.

Beyond that, the graphics, world building, lore, characters, and side quests are all top-notch. There are a staggering amount of small details throughout the game that build the world around you and truly make it feel engrossing, and even plausible. I was surprised many times as I progressed through the story, and found myself always wanting to learn, see, and do more.

Building your own set of weapons and abilities was a treat as well. I found I was incentivized to always figure out what powers, abilities, and items worked best for me to solve the problems as I saw fit. There were consequences, both good and bad, to all decisions I made in regards to my character. This even applies to the story as well. You are just given so many options for practically everything in this game, it just boggles my mind, and I find it hard to stop mentioning or praising it.

It is hard for me to find any large faults with this game, but I will say its biggest downfall are the loading times. The game is treated as a somewhat open-world, with large areas loaded at once that you can access through different doors and elevators. The loading times between sections of the ship can last around a minute or longer. By the end of the game, when you have the whole ship opened up and are running around from place to place to get things done, those mentioned loading times get truly egregious. I found myself hitting loading screens three times within 10 minutes getting certain tasks done, and the waiting was getting super aggravating.

Another fault would have to the how bloated the game starts to feel at the end. This is a problem with almost all open-world type games. There just became too much to do, and I began to feel fatigued and just started rushing to the end of the storyline.

As a last minor complaint, some of the traversal was a bit glitchy or unreliable at points. Never enough to be a big problem, but annoying at times.

I don't want to completely spoil this for people who haven't played, because experiencing it for the first-time was so awesome for me. However, there is this being that shows up eventually in the game that is incredibly powerful and pursues you at random points, and it was one of my favorite mechanics in the game. It added many great thrills and improvised moments that kept things fresh as the game went on.

Overall, Prey is a fantastic game. I was always surprised by what it had to offer; so much player choice, detail, world-building, and polish. It has its annoying moments here and there, and drags on a bit towards the end, but it is a gaming experience I will always remember very fondly. So glad I happened to pick it up.

But nope, the environments are actually quite varied and the game takes you on an interesting ride. The story is subtle, original, intriguing. The RPG mechanics and systems are rewarding, accessible, and encourages multiple playthroughs so you can try different builds and styles of play. There's many ways to approach combat, and most seem viable and fun. Cool enemy designs. Certain parts are more action oriented, some are more stealth horror oriented. It looks great. You can tell the devs took great care in developing this world. There's a good amount of side content, and they're pretty good. Solid questing. Can't say enough good things about this. The storyline is OK, it isn't the most riveting storyline I've seen in a game but the voice acting is good quality which helps tremendously. For me these games aren't about story anyhow, they are about having these lovely intricate environments to explore that are packed full with interesting things to see and do. All in all, a top game by one of the best studios around and I sincerely hope it's lackluster sales don't mean Arkane stop making these types of brilliant games because the industry would be very much the poorer for it. If they end up instead making a battle royale with roguelke elements next I might just throw my PS4 out of the window in a fit of anger. Expand

The stamina meter feels not neccessary at all and there are some platforming issues in FPS which are not so smooth. The upgrade system is good and again well designed. The game is long with plenty to do and can be very surprising at time with outer space sections and side missions that i actually wanted to do.
I was overall happy and surprised at how good this game was. But as i played i got more and more furstrated with the games achilles heel, this game and its god damn loading screens, loading screens and loading screen.s The space station is split into sections levels essentially and you load into each one, which takes way to long , and then there is another mini load screen after the main load screen. When you get to the end game this is a nonsense as your travelling to and fro between these frequently and it ruins the immersion, flow and end game completely, it becomes a chore and slog just to get to the end and quite simply i was glad it was over at the end. Those load screens and the game design which made them essential are a huge flaw in this game.
A Great game ruined by poor design.

Game has an excellent setting, however marred by game design mechanics. Exploration could have been made less cumbersome especially keycards & door code locations. Design of the gameplay killed the what could have been an excellent game. Should take more queue from Bioshock since its similar experience especially in the hints.

On paper, this game seemed like a game that I would absolutely love. The story seemed dark and a little disturbing but without being an over the top “edgelord” game. It’s a first-person shooter which is one of my favorite Genres and it has Bethesda’s name on it. I like Bethesda.

What I didn’t realize at the time and that’s completely on me is, its made by the people who made Dishonored.

That’s the type of shooters that I like, just mindlessly running around, killing enemies and blowing **** up. I don’t want to have to be patient, smart and methodical.

So after a couple hours of playing the game, it just felt like more Dishonored and I just don’t have a ton of interest in those games. I don’t want to bash the game but it just wasn’t for me. I think when Wolfenstein comes out in October, that will be much more up my alley.
