    Beautiful game, incredible, hard to describe, it's been a long time since I felt like this with a game, if you're looking for a quality JRPG to play, you can go with Persona 5, best JRPG I've played in years.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love this game and adore the characters. The leads are a very colorful cast of miscreants and outcasts. Fun game with a great mix of challenge. Colorful and fantastical presentation, some cringe worth and silly dialogue, but hey they are a bunch of teens and adults trying to sound cool in front of said teens. The issues I have is the third act falls apart before and after the climax, the need for Atlus to make replay-ability like its predecessors. Only issue with that is they did not make any other reason, to do so, like other games in which you get different plot lines, alternate endings strictly for completing it multiple times, like Nier Automata or hell even New Gundam Breaker. The sole reason to complete it again is for the different personas, but then you realize, you have played the same dungeons, same side quest, four to five times for personas to beat the same dungeons and bosses you have already beaten several times before. The game is far from perfect, but it is still an awesome game.… Expand

    This game just made me happier in my life. This game is all you need when feeling frustrating, or sad, or anything at all. It makes you cry, laugh and enjoy. It is my favourite game, by far, after 20 years playing RPGs and more specifically, JRPGs.

    Sunk 120 hours into this game - that's 120 hours of my life I will never get back.
    Was it worth it? Emphatic no. Don't let the uniquely designed menus fool you. Dialogue was repetitive. Gameplay was pokemon-esque. Leveling up personas, stats, and social links got old quick.     My only complaint is that this game is far too long. I've got nothing against long games, but near 100 hours is too much in my opinion. If it was a bit shorter I would probably give it a 10, but it started to drag towards the end.

    Persona 5 was the first JRPG I've played in my life and it pretty much changed my thoughts torwards the JRPG genre.
    First of all, the story is fantastic! It's extremely long, it takes at least 80 hours to finish but it's very well written and fun to go through, thanks to the surprising amount of plot twists and turns.
    Gameplay-wise, it's quite challenging but very addictive; in fact, the    Persona 5 was the first JRPG I've played in my life and it pretty much changed my thoughts torwards the JRPG genre.
    First of all, the story is fantastic! It's extremely long, it takes at least 80 hours to finish but it's very well written and fun to go through, thanks to the surprising amount of plot twists and turns.
    Gameplay-wise, it's quite challenging but very addictive; in fact, the whole game is one of the most addictive single-player videogames I've played in a while! I could play for 5+ hours straight and feel that it wasn't enough.
    The combat is turn based and you can control every character from your party. You can use various type of attacks, items, mechanics, and Persona attacks while spending HP or SP (stamina) with each one of the characters.
    By the way, when you knock down all the targets, you can use an All-Out Attack, but you can also have conversation with the targets instead, in order to collect them as Personas or steal. All those mechanics are wonderful.
    The cast is definitely one of my absolute favorites in a videogame so far.
    Also, I cannot praise enough how impressive the soundtrack and the art style of the game are; they're absolutely god-tier!
    Lastly, during free roam, you can basically do whatever you can do in real life in order to improve your social stats that affect your relationships you make with the other characters.
    However, the story has some pacing issues and the freedom you're given outside of the metaverse feels quite limited.

    + Wonderful story
    + Very addictive gameplay
    + Excellent characters
    + Awesome mechanics
    + Godlike soundtrack and art style

    Cons:
    - Minor pacing issues
    - Lack of enough freedom

    In 2018, I bought a PS4 to play P5. On the night of staying up late to play the finale, at three o'clock in the middle of the night, I watched the finale animation alone and cried into tears.

    One of the most fun turn based strategy games ive ever played. Both the combat gameplay and the life management gameplay are fun and engaging. Characters are diverse and interesting. Main plot takes a bit to get going but really gets going in interesting directions.     a great game, the royal version turned Persona 5 from an 8 to a 10 for, 120 hours that never bored me and when i finished the game i felt so empty tht wanted to replay it one more time

    Used to be obsessed with videos on you tube about the game and when I finally got to get a PlayStation and played it, it lived up to the hype. Absolutely love it, it is a masterpiece.

    I have a strong love-hate relationship with this game. It has fun style, and plays a lot like a Final Fantasy game. The music is initially catchy, but quickly becomes obnoxious. The game has some long segments between save points, and difficulty spikes in combat can be very frustrating.

    One of the best JRPG's of all time. Persona 5 was the first JRPG i have ever played and i F**KIN loved it. I played Persona 5 Royal more but i would recommend Persona 5 Royal AFTER playing Persona 5 because you will notice the changes.

    Despite the fact that this game gave us Morgana, a character that I hate so much that 5000000 characters would not be enough to space to list all my objections to his existence, the game remains one of the best I've ever played and absolutely poggers.
    The game's greatest strength is definitely it's characters and story, but the thing it does better than any other game is it's ability to make you despise it's villains. I'm talking "want to rip their spines out and whip them with their own vertebrae".
    First you have the Alpha male, the bully, the jock, the King. He's a representation of the Japanese schooling system, and the game is so brazen about it's critique that it turns the school into a sick palace made by this guy's mind.
    Then you have what is essentially a critique of the unfortunate tendencies of the Japanese to exploit child labour, paired with a metaphor for an internship model, showing actual monuments to people that this system has completely ruined.
    Following that is a crime boss who sees the entire city as his own personal bank, to the point of making civilians into ATMs. Yet another unsubtle kick to the bollocks for Japanese society, this time for the way it treats it's people. They had to dress it up a little in the form a crime boss, but frankly the criminal aspect is almost negligible in this sequence.
    The next villain is a bloody CEO, and just in case you thought he was going to have some redeeming qualities, he's also willing to sell his daughter into marriage with an abusive pervert! Then we get a look into how this man sees the world, and it's... He sees people as slave labour. Straight up, people are his slaves and he will use them as literal fuel for a corporate furnace.
    Next target is the Justice system, and they decided to compare the Japanese court system to a Las Vegas style casino, where all the games are rigged and the house always wins. Not a lot more to say about that one other than the fact that the final boss is portrayed as an unstoppable war machine, really hammering home the point that the system is vicious and violent and will squish anyone under it's fat wheels.
    Second to last is a politician, and holy cow, this one's taken all the hate that was carefully cultivated by all the other villains and then given us a cathedral to people like them. Not a literal cathedral, mind you, but a cruise ship, filled with the mental projection of people who could have hypothetically been other villains in the story (hundred of them) and having them all ruled over by the Prime Minister of the country, dressed as Napoleon, and steering the elites through the sunken wreckage of the country.

    So, you'd think they'd stop there, having systematically attacked every aspect of Society. But wait, there's more! The last boss is actually Society itself, manifested as a god who would genuinely like to destroy the world because it view people (meaning that Society views people) as without purpose, worth or point of existence. It turns the entire world into a barren hellscape, pulled from the little minds of the people that make up Japan's society. The message is obvious. "This isn't the fault of the Elites, the Criminals, the Bullies and the Bastards. This is your fault!"

    And while the game is far from subtle in it's spiteful views on Japan and it's people, it really takes the time to make them seem even worse, by sprinkling in minor villains ranging across thieves, abusive parents, abusive teachers, horrible employers and bullying children. And then there's school, in which you will be given titbits of useful information, all loosely tied to the current villain and white a right piece of filth they are. (Example, meeting the CEO who view his employees as robots, then a few days later learning that robot translates to Slave Labour)

    Loads of games try to get political, pitting you against the world and letting you change it through choice and action, but those games are usually set in other worlds, not in modern-day Tokyo. And even games that shape the world around broken systems and abused power, don't manage to tie it's villains to the world in such a perfect way. Usually, JRPGs don't give you a huge amount of satisfaction with every move you make, but I cherished every single attack I threw at those bosses.

    Characters are also brilliant, as is animation, graphics and I'd be mad as a hatter not to mention the sexy HUD and Menus. All in all, one of the best games ever made, and I'd say anyone who doesn't like it needs a change of heart.    … Expand

    I first saw persona 5 when i checked this website a couple of years ago. I was starting to have enough of gaming as a whole, for many reasons. I ended up playing a game so good, that I decided to never stop gaming. it reinvigorated my love for gaming. It is one of the rare games i wish i had not played, because now, i will never be able to experience it anew. Despite being a ps3 game, it surpassed my expectations, and it will be enjoyable for eternity.

    Best stuff: the artistic vision and unique game design/ui. the awesome music. the loveable characters. the personas themselves remind me of my childhood with pokemon. The things to do in tokyo.

    What could have improved the game: Joker's lack of voice, absence of character customisation in game - wait its DLC...

    In conclusion: The game is practically flawless, it kept me fully interested for so many hours, and is memorable and fun. For a month, the phantom thieves became my only and best friends. I don't know how they made the characters feel as real as they felt to me. I give this game a 93/100    … Expand

    One of my favorites of all time I love the characters and the overall look of the game is amazing. Weakest of the persona protagonists imo and the story itself drags pretty hard in places but after replaying it 4 times it still is something I could see myself coming back to.

    Good story and enjoyable RPG game would recommend and play again. The world's are well thought out and the personas you both get and fight have there own personality. The characters are well thought out with there own storyline and impact on the story. The extra features like gyms, crafting, school questions etc. But my problem is that all the perfecting and stay boost take too long toGood story and enjoyable RPG game would recommend and play again.     Looks aesthetically amazing, and feels good to play. Music, etc. Is top quality as always. However the main cast lacks in the writing department after their respective Palaces and Confidants are finished. Antagonists are a mixed bag in quality.     I am not a big fan of turn based rpg's so I was very hesitant to play Persona 5 but I decided to take a shot and download it. That was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Nearly everything about persona 5 floored me, from the beautifully designed palaces, to the wonderful cast of characters, to the flashy, turn-based combat, to the best ost in a video game ever. I felt every secondI am not a big fan of turn based rpg's so I was very hesitant to play Persona 5 but I decided to take a shot and download it. That was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Nearly everything about persona 5 floored me, from the beautifully designed palaces, to the wonderful cast of characters, to the flashy, turn-based combat, to the best ost in a video game ever. I felt every second of my 80 hour playthrough was well spent and I was tearing up at the end, not because the ending was sad, but because I was sad that I wasn't going to spend any more time with the characters I loved in a world I truly cared about. Persona 5 has a few minor problems, but they don't hold the game back from being one of the best I've ever played. Can't wait to play persona 5 Royal when persona 5 is no longer fresh in my memory.… Expand

No quesito gráfico o jogo é bastante bonito pois se apropria do estilo anime e utiliza isso para esconder as limitações do hardware do PlayStation 3, a história é incrível e repleta de reviravoltas marcantes e de personagens espetaculares.… Expand

Одна из тех игр, где ты действительно переживаешь за каждого персонажа - а не относишься к ним как обычная NPC кукла.     The combat system and the story are well made and let you enjoy the game without making it boring, even though it is a long game (around 60-80h)
    Don't worry about the name, you don't have to play the preceding titles, since they're all stand-alone stories.

    This game made me realize how important a good cast can be, and it got me into RPGS, and turn based battles. The story is great, the gameplay is great, the setting is great, the art style is great, the waifus are great and the soundtrack is god tier.
    This game has it's issues, but not enough to remove it from my favorite game of all time.

    a friend recommended this to me so I spent £150 to buy it even the persona 5 royal already came out and oh my god it was such a waste of time. if you want to play this buy royal the superior edition. be warned though because that game has a ton of pay to win micro transactions and also has and awful camera, awful graphics, awful controls and bad theme.

    I cannot understand why this game is so highly praised … there are parts of the game where for hours nothing interesting happening. The combat is so boring and the length of the game makes it even more tedious. After 60 hours I just gave up out of boredom

    I never played a Persona game before. Now, it's one of my top 10 games of all time. Maybe the most unique game as well. I didn't expect it to be 80 hours long either.

    The concept is incredible. The presentation is immaculate. The gameplay is flashy and deep. The characters are like friends.

    Must play even on a PS5 and in 2030 if you haven't.

First, I will point out the positive. The artistic direction of the game is still one of the best to date. The menu, transition and animation is top notch and makes this PS3 game puts to shame other games released today on lower end hardware like the Switch. It's very generous in content as over 130 hours is needed to finish the first playthrough. While other games went on the easy route to switch the gameplay to active battle, Persona stay true to it's roots and kept it a turn base combat game
    Now for the not so good. First of all, while this is very subjective, I hate the music tracks with a passion. Not all of the tracks are hawfull, hoverver, most of them are. Also, I needed to put headphones during most of my playthrough as my wife always complained as she despised the music so much.
    My second negative concerns the main hero. During the 140 hours played so far, I could not give a $4!& about him. The almost silent protagonist is faced with choices thruout the adventures, but most of the choice given makes no sense. I could not believe how many time I was frustrated as all choice where not one I would make. That is when the choice are not exactly the same as other decisions are like: 1-Yes 2-Hmm. Yes. 3-Yes, I think. I was missing so much the great dialogue options of other games like the Mass Effect trilogy. Also, one of the most stupid thing is that you will be asked several questions at school and if you ALREADY know the answer, you will RAISE your knowledge, but if you don't, the teacher will tell you the correct answer and your knowledge will not raise.
    My third and main problem is that the games drags for way too long as most of the game feels tedious. It's soo long in fact, they didn't even have the cast read the dialogue. I found myselft even fast fowarding dialogues that seems unrelated to the main story as they where boring and poorly written. I would have prefered a shorter(60 hours) fully voice acted main story with optionnal side quest.
    Lastly, I don't like the tone of the game, making adults look like they are the villain and depicting japanese culture prone to xenophobism. To me age has nothing to do with how you are as a person, as stupid adult where previously stupid teenagers. I felt awkard playing a game with such ageism. Also the fact that the game is so much ancored in the japanese culture without any taint of any other culture makes me feels out of place.

    To wraps it up, this game feels like a waste of my precious time. The story should have been told in 30% of it's time and the flow should have been better. Overall, I feel stupid wasting time on such a game and only wished there was more turn based games to fill in the void made when Final Fantasy decided to kill the franchise when they made the game action based.    … Expand

The music also fits the art style nicely, which really shows an evolution from the previous games which were already quite stylish.

    But I feel that is the only real improvement.

    On the downside, From the very start, the game felt slow and meandering, both in its exposition, dialogue and in how much it holds your hand. This isn't particularly surprising for a JRPG, but a lot of the "social sim" type activities, and even the battles or "puzzles" in the dungeons, feel insanely overwritten and unnecessarily guided.

    The characters also tend to talk a lot but say very little, with constantly repetitive dialogue that rarely ever really fleshes out any of them beyond the clichés. P4 was very smart in the way in which the dungeons revealed hidden aspects of our party members, making them more human and serving as an introduction, but this game rarely understands how important that is when building a long story like this.

    Dungeons, while visually improved, are not mechanically interesting, whenever a puzzle is introduced, the game basically solves it for you, never trusting in the player's intelligence. Additionally, the controls and the stealth aspect of the game are very awkward, so these gimmicks play out as badly implemented mechanics that add very little to the game.
    Moreover, the tremendously restrictive nature of the game always prevents you from feeling any growth, as the battles can either be a complete breeze (done in one or two turns) or go bad FAST. And this structure remains throughout almost all the game (this may have been the same in P4, but i personally felt like I could grind if I wanted and feel a more rewarding progression, while through the first 40 hours of P5, SP is so restrictive that this feels almost impossible).

    And the worst culprit, the story. Persona 3 and 4 both have twists and turns that, can be satisfying, but end up falling more on the side of clichè. However, this is less of a problem when those games had a less self serious perspective.
    P5 is always at the edge of something interesting, always toying with the idea of saying something challenging, but it constantly stumbles, stretches and ultimately drops the ball and falls into the clichés again and again, It lacks subtlety to actually explore any of the interesting topics it hints at: For example, It constantly asks if it is really correct to basically brain wash people? But then it shows completely monstrous comically evil rivals, so it can deflect the conflict : These are monsters so, DUH.
    It tries to be cool and mature, it ends up feeling childish and defaulting to basically EVERY JRPG trope, while taking itself WAY too seriously.

    There are many more issues with the game, i find, the unskipable repeated sequences (seriously, the post fight animation is 10+ seconds long, and plays fully after each of the hundreds of fights in the game), the seemingly filler dungeons, the often pointless extended exposition, which serves very little narrative purpose. And smaller peeves, such as the impossibility to 100% the game (in one 100+ hour playthrough), questionable treatment of topics, and extreme length of the game just make me think Atlus felt compelled to bloat this game, and never wrote or designed thoughtfully around it.

    It is possible that many of these problems were present in the previous games of the series but i feel like the run time and the somewhat less fleshed out cast really end up damaging the complete package.    … Expand

The sp is horrible, only in the last stages you can have something to replenish it and for a game that NEEDS to use SP ALWAYS is horrible.     I very much enjoyed this game. I haven't played a persona game since the very first one, long long ago. There were some noticeable call backs, but the story was unique. The music was excellent, the game mechanics were not too complex, and the story was quite a fun romp. I don't play as many JRPGs as I used to, and I am glad that I decided to give this one a try.

The rpg elements are so smooth and fun, with the quick load-times and extreme customizability.     The story. He's such a bad guy, watch out for that guy, let's stay clear of him, why did he have to come to this school, I heard he got arrested, ......bored yet. Well if not then great because you'll get hours of rubbish dialogue saying just that.

    Gameplay - same as everything else, bland dated and boring. I don't play many menu combat games often but all other similar recent games I played such as Ara Fell and Dragon Star Varnir were more enjoyable.

    The dungeons as with the entire game feel completely dated.

    So why 1/10 and not 0/10. Somehow the combination of junk all seems to tie in well together. Games must feel cohesive for me to enjoy them and I can't deny it that. It feels like a team working together made this, not just individual parts winged together. The dialogue in this makes the SAO games look exciting to read. At least with SAO the game was fun between the dialogue.

    Love the Persona series, and 5 did not disappoint. Colorful cast of characters, excellent Persona compendium per usual along with great gameplay and plot. Had so much fun playing this and the dialogue between characters is hilarious. Also enjoy how you can build relationships with people.

When I started playing Persona 5 for the first time, for the first hour, I wasn't sure I was going to play this game until I saw the main protagonist awaken to his Persona I was like, "ok, now you have my attention," and so I spend 90+ hours on this incredible game, and when the credits roll I was sad that I beat this game because I didn't want to the game to end. What I love about this game is the story, the characters, the levels, the bosses, and even the music, especially that song "The Last Surprise" when you start a battle.     Took me a long time to get through but I enjoyed the whole thing. Some segments drag and there are some instances of terrible writing, but it’s flaws mostly get obscured amidst all the good.

    One of the best story I played. You get attached to your friends and your sad when it is sad or something bad happen to them. It's my first persona and I can't wait to play the next one.

    Persona 5 was my first persona experience (yeah I'm calling it as an experience) and I f*cking loved it. The game is full of characters and every person you meet has their own identity and character. I enjoy while trying to make and strengthen my bond wit them. With its unique turn-based combat system, battles in Persona 5 never feel boring. An absolute must-play.

    Game left me speechless when I finished it,the game takes about 80 hours to finish,i loved every minute of it! Every RPG anime lover must play this game,I wish this game was released on all platforms :(.

    After almost 10 years from 4, Persona 5 is the resurrection of a master series. Great story, and character development. If it wasn't for Royal, which stepped up everything that could be stepped up, it would be easily a 10 for me. It deserves a chance to experience it even if you are not a fun of the genre!

    No wonder everyone said its the best JRPG currently. I've always felt skeptic about Persona game but turns out its such a great experience that I have so far with JRPG game. Music = Way too great to as its make the game more dynamic and alive. My favorite is when you play on Nijima palace. Its just a perfect soundtrack Story = Decent, just good.     Romance = Amazing, they execute it very well and give us player freedom as every girls character in the game are able to be in relationship with us. Futaba all the way, never cheat on her.

    Combat = Great just great

    Conclusion = way too many to talk about persona 5 as its just a perfect JRPG although mona tends to get annoying as sometimes I can't do anything for around 3-5 days straight and Mona keep telling me to sleep. But that's it, the downside of Persona 5, the rest is legendary.    … Expand

The gameplay has a lot of rinse and repeat aspects. It becomes a chore to keep playing. Because of this I would get into auto-pilot playing mode and then quite suddenly would be somehow killed; thus undoing an hour or more of gameplay.     Persona 5 is an absolutely amazing game that convinces with its art style, music and story. It has anything one could ask for such a game and more. The turn-based battle system offers a wide array of opportunities. While it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is definitely recommended to give it a go.
