Sadly, Overcooked 2 is just TOO EASY. There's no challenge at all. You end up a level feeling like you did a terrible job and still get three stars. That means there's no excitement and no reward for doing a good job or improving.

We've beaten the whole game without failing in more than 4 levels, and still managed to get 3 stars in a couple of tires at least.

Here's hoping that they will add a hard mode and fix the online multiplayer so I can change my score to a 10.

However, if you never had the opportunity to play the first, let me tell you what you can expect from this. It’s one of the most stressful co-op games you’ll ever play, should you choose to play with others. And while the entire story mode is definitely able to be completed in single player, you lose a lot of the majesty that makes the game so fun. You’ll find yourself yelling things out like “I’m grinding the meat, give some flour,” and in a household that barely makes something more substantial than ramen, it’s comical. If you thought Mario Party was the game to play to ruin your marriage or friendships, clearly you haven’t played this.

The game comes with a huge assortment of characters to play as, with a number of them being unlockable. None of these have any sort of advantage over the others that I’m aware of, and every time you boot the game it’ll randomly select a new one for you, although you can certainly choose whoever you want. The characters you may already be familiar with are back, but this time you are facing hordes of zombie bread thanks to a pretty famous book with a slant for food – you won’t find a boomstick here though. Instead, you’ll be appealing the masses with your cooking skills, and those skills will be put to the test in the most dynamic kitchens of rather precarious natures.

The majority of this game will be spent cooking food and keeping up with customer orders, whether you tackle it alone or with up to three others. If you’re playing alone, you will control more than one character, as this is essential for levels that split up the characters. Earlier on this will help with productivity when one is cutting up food as the other washes dishes, for example. There’s always something to be done in this, and wasted time is wasted money, which is essential for progression. The introductions of how the mechanics work are much more polished this time around, as is everything else. It’s almost as if this was the game the original wanted to be, and now that the team had the money they could actually create what they set out to make originally.

If you thought the levels were a bit out there in the first one, you haven’t seen anything yet. The first stage to really get me was 1-6, which has you cooking in a hot air balloon. Soon the winds pick up, moving the setup of the kitchen, which is pretty ordinary for the game. Then the thunder and lightning sets in, and soon you’re going down and in a completely different kitchen with an entirely different course being served. It’s really something to experience; it’s like an Uncharted moment within a silly game about cooking. I expected the craziness to be amplified, but my imagination completely undershot what the team came up with.

Outside of the levels proper, the game brings back the world map that you’ll drive around. This time there’s a bit more to it, with switches to find in order to progress through the minor labyrinths the game offers, especially with the secret levels. That’s right, there are secret levels to be unlocked if you meet certain conditions, and these are the hardest challenges you’ll face in the game. While I got three stars on 1-1 through 1-6 without issue, I scraped by with one on the hidden level. Granted, all these levels I only played once, but still, that trend continued as the game got progressively more difficult – and that spike happens real quick. If you found the music from the first game to be charming, prepare your ears for more of that, as it’s an absolute joy to listen to while cooking and exploring the beautiful world map.

If I had to pick one downfall for Overcooked 2, it’s that it doesn’t cater to people with poor coordination. This is a game that demands you have an intimate knowledge of the controls and can either swap between two characters yourself with the utmost precision or have decent communication skills. Of course, that negative can be turned positive by this game improving them. In addition to the local multiplayer (you can split one controller if need be), the game offers online functionality, which I barely got to test with the limited player base at the moment. However, the match I played was a bit laggy, but that was likely from a poor internet connection. Adequate communication online seemed to be lacking though, which is a big hit to the success of this mode.

If you’re looking for a multiplayer game that’s family friendly and sure to raise the heart rate of anyone that plays it, I can’t think of a better title. Overcooked 2 improves on every aspect of the first, and is truly a wonderful experience. Although I can say that after a very stressful day of work, it’s not exactly ideal for winding down.

After finishing this game, I felt so betrayed and unfulfilled and took to online to see if other users experienced the same kind of anguish I did. To my surprise, Overcooked 2 has generally favorable reviews very similar to the first game, even though it is significantly worse than the first one.
Here are some my issues with the game.

Like others noted, the star scoring system is laughable. Speaking from my experience playing with 3 people, including myself, it’s nearly impossible to not get 3 stars on all the levels. I can’t speak to say if it’s different with 2 or 4 players, but with 3, we were able to achieve 3 stars on every single level within 3 tries and with most of the levels achieving 3 stars on our first try.

By no means are we ‘hardcore players’ – we would always dedicate our first try to get accompanied with the quirks to the stage, note the patterns to any changes, and find what role each of us fit into well. We’d try different things and when anyone made an egregious mistake (like turning in the wrong recipe, falling off the edge with a fully cooked meal, or just making too many small mistakes), we would actively set things on fire, push each other off the edge, and fling pasta at each other’s faces for the remainder of the time. Some of the levels, this tomfoolery began 2 minutes before the end of the required time and we still got 3 stars on our first try. Whenever we saw the results screen, we would look at each other and say, “Really? We did reeeaally bad”, but would shrug and keep going, even though we could have done worlds better just because we already received all the reward the game would be willing to give us.

On top of that, Overcooked 2 added a 4th star that we were all looking forward to so that we could go back and seek a challenge, but we were severely disappointed to see the scaling absolutely bonkers. The 4th star are based off of Steam stats of people who played the game, some of them with glitches, with 4 players, and by abusing mechanics, meaning that most of the levels are impossible to reach 4 stars with 4 or less people. This makes the game only really usable to it’s full potential with 4 players, but the online mechanic is pretty much broken as well. World 5 and 6’s Kevin levels are also impossible to unlock without 4 players as well if I recall correctly, and you can’t get all the characters without completing all the Kevin levels.

On top of all this, the game is ridden with typos in the dialogue, flagrant underutilization of switches in the overworld, poorly thought out level-design, and repetitive gimmicks throughout the levels that make the game extremely unrewarding and downright not fun at the end of the day. Our group kept going because we absolutely loved the first Overcooked and thought that they made it easier for everyone else (which if fine) and then added the 4th star as an appropriate challenge. Come the end of the game, there isn’t even a cut scene or indicator of a finale (you pretty much never interact with the antagonist, the last level just cuts to the credits in a very unsatisfying way) and the 4th star is not scaled so that groups less than 4 can enjoy it.

Overcooked 2 just feels like an unloved cash cow after the first one. I have more contentions with the overworld, the music, the inconsistencies, the way it handles switching chefs, and much more, but what I listed above are the things are really the things that broke my heart. All 3 of us are severely disappointed to the point where we considered trying to return a game for the first time ever. If you loved the first one for it’s witty game level designs, appropriate challenges, pacing with implementation with game mechanics, and engagement with audience, please save yourself the $20-$30 this game costs and do not buy it. Let the first one live on in your heart.

Great game again, however! I have to agree with the other somewhat neutral review.

1 is incredibly more challenging, but also fulfilling to play. 2 is clearly aimed at being far more for casuals who still want to earn 3*, which I guess is fine since casuals are the majority. I also have to point out that the “worlds” in OC1 all kept changing, somewhat like old school mario games

I also have to point out that the “worlds” in OC1 all kept changing, somewhat like old school mario games did theme wise.

However a large majority of the worlds in oc2 do not change so much, from the first til the very last.
You may play world 1-4 and experience a similar theme, and even mechanic all the way in world 6.
MANY of these maps rely on simple plate cleaning management to win and not much else, leaving you only 2 plates for example. This is a welcome addition from 2 however it is the SOLE mechanic for determining a 3* win on far too many worlds, not just stages but worlds.

One world, but with many stages using this wouldve been ok, this just felt messy.

Also, as many have said getting 3* in this game is laughable.
Me and my wife screwed up so many levels so many times but when we got our score, it would end up at 3* SO many times.

We were pretty much kinda like oh um really? I “guesssss” well do the next one, since theres no point in redoing the last one even though we couldve done way better......

^That happened a LOT. I cant think of a level we actually failed to 3* honestly the first try except a few dog ones.

Online MP and throwing are very welcome add ins too! However I worry they maybe focused on getting these added into the game at the cost of a little more balancing.

They need to go back to the roots making OC3 way harder, with each world having no similarity to the last world.

We all continue to play OC1 again and again although, everytime we bring up oc2 all of our faces just kinda go naaa, we beat it once thats enough. I can see this being deleted for hdd space now while oc1 will stay with us til ps5 for sure.

I do hope the studio continues to make overcooked games but out of 1 and 2, 1 blows the sequel away no contest.

That said, I still think this game is a must buy for the genre, just dont expect what the first one gave you.

Overcooked 2 is a well-made game, but it's too hard. You have to cook food for customers and if you don't do it right, they'll get angry. There's a lot of different recipes to learn and the game is timed, so you have to be fast. I found it challenging and fun, but also frustrating. The customers are impatient and if you make a mistake, it can cost you the game.

Overcooked 2 is certainly a decent game with a lot of content. Now, it's also possible to play online. However, I found the difficulty level not enough challenging, even though I was attempting to get 3 stars. Sometimes, I had the impression that I didn't play well and I still got the 3 stars. At the end, there is a 4 star difficulty level but it's just impossible for me.

There are more than 40 levels, some of them hidden, which can only be unlocked by completing a unknown challenge. After the main story, there isn't really much stuff to do, only Arcade (1 or more players) and Versus Mode (2 or more players), Practice and Survival Mode, and at last, for every level there is also an optional fourth star to be achieved.
All in all, there are really some great levels (and some of them can be frustrating), but all this won't last long, as the game's main story can be completed in several hours, if you aren't going for the DLCs which in my opinion should've been there from the start.

Night of the Hangry Horde,虽然最贵,但是耐玩度最高。

Is Overcooked 2! worth the purchase? I would say it is, for sure. The story and writing may be a bit over-the-top and punny for my liking, but there are certainly people out there that will have some fun with it. So whether you’re a cook for the ages or a master of the macaroni and cheese, Overcooked 2! is certainly worth picking up.

If you're hungry for more Overcooked, this will satiate you and then some. Just don't expect any real changes to the recipe. [Oct 2018, p.85]

The original Overcooked is a cooperative masterpiece and this sequel simply tried a little too hard. It's still enjoyable but the frustrating stage designs and easy scoring system make for a far less satisfying meal.
