Surprisingly good game with a few flaws. The P2W is kept at a minimum, the animations look good and it's fun when you're playing, however the game lacks content, the commentary is terrible, and in the one mode (nba live's version of my career) you probably spend more time clicking through menus and watching loading screens than you do actually playing basketball. I uninstalled after three games of franchise mode, and I'm not looking forward to my next EA game at all. I score it a 4 because of the passable gameplay and because other people might like other modes. Expand

The negative reviews of Live have put me off getting this and usually opting for NBA "K, but when it appeared in the playstation sale for £18, i thought i'd finally give it a go.

This is a great game. The presentation of menus isn't the best, the commentary is very repetative and the lack of hair choices for none-brown haired people is (as with most sports games) annoying, but these are the only negatives i've found with the game so far.

Progression is much more rapid than in live than in 2K. In only a few days, i'd turned my new character into a lethal outside shooter, and this is so satisfying to have a bit of quality, when back in 2K, i'd be grinding and grinding to increment my stats to anything above appalling.

The league is very satisfying, i'm on the Bulls and just worked my way up to be a starter - this is brilliant as it seems to reward good playing more than in 2K where you could dominate for the 3 minutes you're on, but the time isn't taken into consideration so your 10 points and 5 rebounds aren't considered special. In live, it seems to account for this and i was rapidly given more and more minutes to account for my good playing. Interestingly, i was made a starter and estimated 40 minutes, but in the first game i was playing poorly, and was actually subbed out and ended up playing only 24 minutes, so possibly it knows to reduce time for poor playing too. If this is the case, it's a nice touch.

The other modes are good from what i've seen of them, there are daily games you can play in with other people to try and earn goodies (for example team vests) and there is a bit of randomness in the rewards so you can end up with prizes that are common or ones that are more rare. It's a nice touch that makes you want to play again.

Either way, this was meant to be a short review but i'm finding there's more and more i like about it that i can say, but what i would say is if you are hesitant about getting this game due to poor comparison reviews with 2K, I would say to try ignore it. Though 2K might look better and be presented better, you'll likely have far more fun with Live 19

This is overall just a fun basketball game, especially for those of us tired of microtransactions and the garbage 2k gave us last year. While maybe the gameplay is not as polished as 2k yet, if you just want a fun basketball game, this definitely works.

Fun game if your playing the one mode and the league. Other than that I give it 5 stars. Franchise mode is useless. You can’t edit the draft classes, can’t import or create your own draft classes, no real control, and the commentary is boring and uninspired. You hear the same lines over and over...it’s like listening to a played out song everyday for a year.

The gameplay is good as are the accuracy of the players but EA put too much effort into The One and neglected the other modes. I bought this game because I wanted something different from 2k but 2k understands the user experience while EA does not.

NBA Live is coming people. While the 2k developers are out there publicly defending microtransactions, NBA Live is grinding every year to improve. It won't be long, I'm telling you. Switch now to force some competition...

AMAZING FUN and WAY Better than 2K 19. Live needs to make some improvements and so does 2k BUT when it comes down to FUN. Live is much better. Isn't a game supposed to be fun? This is for The One only, and all I really play is Live run which is basically Pro-am/Park.
It's just soooo much better than 2k. The Park is a stupid concept overall. No VC, perfect grinding time, balanced gameplay.

Giant leap and play that I really enjoy! Biggest grip here is that you cannot sim games without penalty. That's needs to change ASAP. If I elect to sim a portion of a long season, i shouldn't be penalized 0 minutes and stats. Come down off the high horse, people. Keep it fun.

While NBA live is still a little dusty, 19 built from 18 and the series can find new hope in 2 to 3 years. However not the best NBA Live, but a start.

There are all kinds of small issues like this. It was a good change but not enough. Hopefully they improve it way more to another whole new level on next gen consoles in 2021, NBA live 22.

All they need to do is eliminate all the small issues so it's fun and feels good to control and play.

Live 19 is a interesting game to say the least. While the gameplay can feel a bit stiff especially when it comes to driving in the paint on offense, there is some charm to it. I’m inclined to give it all the benefit of the doubt in the world, and to say that it’s still worth checking out if you’re a basketball fan. I’m all for competition, and that competition is undeniably shrinking the gap between NBA Live and NBA 2K. But the reality is, as far as this game has come, it still has a ways to go before it can be considered a true equal.

NBA Live has found its own identity, instead of fighting the rival. The gameplay is perfect in short game sessions, but the long-lasting management practice has to be updated.

EA takes baby steps in refining the gameplay while adding enough content to keep you entertained for quite a while. The entry barrier for new players is pretty low, which should be beneficial to the game's community. Oddly though, the graphics are of a lesser quality than last year's iteration and the commentary is still off.
