Kudos to the developers for hunting this pearl in an increasingly barren market. Well done!

This quote led me to play without a doubt the best VR game I've played yet, and an absolute must play for anyone who can. Moss takes you to a beautiful and charming fantasy world where you explore with a mouse named Quill as she sets off to save her family and drive out an evil force from her fallen kingdom. This adorable puzzle-platformer had me smiling from ear to ear constantly as my cute companion climbed and fought her little heart out while making adorable noises, using sign language, and so many other things I dare not spoil because it's worth seeing for yourself. Moss is more than just cuteness though; the puzzles are legitimately fun, the music is divine, the design of the world makes excellent use of VR, and the story is told very well finding a way to feel like both a narration and incorporation of you as the character. My only regret with this game is I wish I had Playstation Move controllers so the motion control felt more natural, because I hate to have a single demerit of this completely fantastic game.

In short, if you only played one VR game in your entire life, without a doubt it should be Moss. It's fun, charming, adorable, and may single handedly inspire me to buy a PSVR2 just to play it's sequel. This game is a true work of art, and one I hope everyone can play at least once in their life.

A mix of combat and puzzle solving Moss would have made for a decent enough game just played on a TV, but it is undoubtedly lifted by VR. Most gamers will be won over instantly by the adorable Quill standing before them, and seeing her jumping, climbing and fighting before your eyes, creates a greater attachment than just seeing the character on a flat TV screen.

As ever the resolution of PSVR means the game doesn’t look as sharp as you’d like, and at around four hours in length it’s not exactly a long game, but it is a charming little adventure and a must play if you own a PSVR headset.

It mostly would also work on a flat screen, but it presumably will loose some of its magic, and occasionally the extra degrees of freedom of VR are needed or are at least very helpful. Some people may consider Moss to be a bit on the short side. In my opinion the length is correct for the story it tells. But, I certainly would appreciate if there was the second book. I would recommend Moss for everybody who likes fairy tales, platforming and simple puzzles. Expand

But that about covers the positive aspects of this game.
Moss is just way too short, even considering that this is just Book 1. The first playthrough took me around two and a half to three hours and this is with also having gathered all the collectibles that serve no other purpose than trophies. Once you have the trophies, the collectibles are essentially useless.
After having beaten the boss, I had to do another playthrough for the no death run trophy. I could ignore the useless collectibles and because the simple puzzles offered no more challenge, I was able to reach the boss in just under an hour. Call me crazy, but that is just too short for a price tag of 29,99 euros. Luckily I was able to buy Moss in the PS Store for a discount price of 17,99 or I would have seriously felt ripped off.
There is also not enough variation in the enemies. They are mechanical beetles of which there are maybe 4 different types. More could possibly have been done here, but I could live with it.
In conclusion: Moss is worth a try, but in the end the experience is too basic. Don't pay full price unless you have money to burn.

VR needs content to take off and moss could be the kind of game that makes people take the dive

second one would be the lack of diversity wich could be related to the length of the game. 3 different kind of monsters is way too little and gives close to no challenge

as for the soundtrack, the graphic and the story. SOLID 10, if the second part fixes the shortcomings i mentionned, Moss will be a perfect game

NOTE: I only review games I like. (not that I review many) but I don't see the point in bashing something I could never make.

How can I characterize this game? I have heard the comparisons to Redwall, and why not? We have an adorable protagonist that isn't the least bit weak. Quill is inquisitive, helpful and fierce.

But, how do I begin a review on a game that is perfect? Or as perfect as you can be in VR. I read the GI review and many others. The only knock this game can have is that occasionally the floating ball can get "caught" on something. But, it is such a tiny problem that has more to do with the hardware than the software and for that, the game can be forgiven.

You start off by sitting in a wondrous library of old with candles and a book. You use the DS4 to open the book and begin the tale. The book is animated and begins the narration. After a few pages, you are pulled into Quill's world of Moss.

This can only be experienced in VR. If you get a chance to play the demo, realize that the game is even better.

Once in this lush and vibrant world it is easy to just look around and take it in. Polyarc's attention to the littlest details like how Quill mounts a step or how her tail swishes are the amazing little details that add to a complete experience. The way the water reflects the surroundings, the way other characters, NPCs wander about the world, just makes the game so much more engrossing.

Gameplay: It is a platformer. you control Quill as she makes her way around a particular scene. You may have her wait while you move a stone or a statue or unlock a part of the puzzle. A few times, I missed something and Quill pointed to where I should look. At about the 3rd scene, Quill fell off a ledge and I had to try again. Then she fell again. I realized that if I stand up, I can see what she was doing better. This added a depth to the game the developer intended. There are so many cool little secrets to be discovered by simply standing and looking about the board. Combat isn't difficult and it is fair. I didn't feel cheated if I was defeated, it was my fault. This isn't Bloodborne, (a game I love for the difficulty) and that is okay.

Puzzles: Easy to Moderate. There aren't head scratching, teeth grinding, hair ripping controller smashing puzzles here. Is that a knock on the game? No. It means, with a little patience you can figure it out with feeling some challenge yet doesn't take away from the flow of the narration.

Character: Protagonist: Quill is incredibly charming. There is just such awesome cool little animations (like high fiving) when Quill is out and about. Her little voices and squeaks, the way she responds to injury, and her fierceness in combat really build a character that is lovable.

Overall: It is emotional. It is a great story. It is a fun game to play. It is worth every penny (and then some.) VR games and developers need to play this and emulate it. As soon as I was done, I wanted a Moss Chess game (or board for my current VR chess game.) The game actually excites me about the future. It reveals that you can have games like Dragon Quest, Ni No Kuni, or Civilization in VR and not as a gimmick, but as a full fledged game.

OK: ONE SPOILER: And it is a wonderful one: The final trophy states that this is just Moss: Book One.

    YES!!!

Moss is a fantastic little VR game, with lots of charm. It's a little deceptive when you first see it, giving the impression that it's not a first person view game, but in a way, it is. Puzzles range from easy to medium difficulty. There were only 1 or 2 times that I got stuck, and even then, it wasn't long before I realized what I needed to do next. The environments are beautiful to look at, and the main character, Quill, is charming.

The cons for Moss are that it is a relatively short game, and that the puzzles were a little too easy for my preference.

I prefer VR games that I play as a character who is walking around in the environment, but I did enjoy Moss for what it was. It's not at the top of my list of PSVR games, but it was a worthwhile experience that I would recommend.

Moss is a gorgeous virtual reality experience that combines the eloquence of a theatrical play, the cuteness of smaller-sized subjects and making their scale feel grander, and the enjoyment of playing video games. I have never experienced something quite like Moss, and although it is partially due to the VR headset, it's more than equally due to how the developers used the technology to create a genuinely enjoyable experience. Moss is probably my favorite VR game yet, and I'd expect that sentiment to be echoed by many others.
