Massira is a 3 hour long puzzle platforming adventure game where you play as Numi, A little girl and refugee who after a bombing seeks to escape Syria to europe with her grandmother
This isn’t really an enjoyable game, but it is one I can appreciate…
Youre youll go through a variety of different levels with their own feel
Youll be controlling mostly numi but occasionally youll also take control of her grandmother through stealth sections, platforming sections, simple quest sections, puzzles ections..
There is so much variety here in Massira
Unfotunately that variety doesn’t quite stop the game from feeling like it drags a bit…
Overall the gamepay is very stiff, the challenging comes from fighting the mechanics
The platforming to the bugs.. these are the hurdles you have to hop to reach this games end…
The platforming brought back the frustration of the ps1 and ps2 days, sliding off of platforms as they move up for example, invisible holes in the ground, rocks in the way of your jumping..
The most infurating part of Massira though is the lack of any sort of checkpoint system…
I ran into numerous bugs during the refugee camp section of the game, and instead of simply backing out to the main menu and continuing from where I left off…
The entire level resets itself.. bug after bug after bug….
Thankfully levels here are very quick to go through…. But it would’ve been nice of the game to remember I already fixed the wells and found the lost dogs in the camp 3 times
Overall Massira is an impactful game with a heartbreaking story…
I just wish the gameplay though varied and magical at time… matched the potential of the story…
    I give Massira
    a 5/10

No es mal juego, pero las mecánicas de juego son muy frustrantes. Su finalidad e idea es buena.

Tiene una buena idea pero la jugabilidad es demasiado pocha como para ponerle más.

A sympathetic interpretation of the trials and tribulations of a Syrian refugee. An unexpected surprise.

Massira tries to tell a story about how being a refugee feels. This could potentially make for a highly original and creative game, but unfortunately Massira is neither. Mediocre platforming action with a remarkable yet unpolished visual design best describes this game. The controls are far too sensitive for a platformer which is a cardinal sin in this genre. The message the game tries to convey doesn't suit the gameplay either which makes for a strange and uneventful experience. The only good thing Massira has going for it, is it's music.

Massira is a title that tries to reflect the experiences of the Syrian refugees. A risky bet due to the complexity of the message, which has been deployed efficiently despite an unrefined control system and thanks to well-chosen playable mechanics.
