And everybody who plays agrees its broken despite the huge budget and profits of Madden. EA and its execs are trash people who don't deserve to run a hot dog stand.     Regrettably I find myself wanting to play Madden around the time the NFL season starts, excellent marketing by EA. I feel if it was released in March it would sell a lot less.
    There are plenty of modes to keep you busy, but they're all the same. I am totally over MUT and challenges and other garbage the developers shoe-horn into the    Look, its not a bad game, its not a great one either.

    Sad to see the franchise stoop so low. I’ve played Madden since 1996 and love simulation football games but this game is literally unplayable.
    I could make a long list of its many flaws but that’s a waste of my time and effort.

    It’s time for EA to pass the torch to people who actually care about making a quality football game.

Combine that with the dynamic difficulty adjustment that has completely ruined any skill players experience and it’s a shame that in todays gaming space this is allowed to take place. I just want to be able to create a detailed player, have him go though the combine, and have his ratings be based off of the combine results and go from there. I want to be able to earn “contract money” to spend it on cool things like my own house, or certain football gear, or tattoos. EA is many, many years behind and i dont think they can catch up without rebuilding the game from the ground up, sort of like what 2k did with the WWE series.… Expand

The minor and incomplete improvements they made to franchise mode do little to mask the atrocious levels of bugs and objectively awful game development that has riddled this franchise, infecting it like a parasite and only growing as time goes on. In addition to failing to address various lingering bugs, like the cpu's supernatural ball awareness and catching ability relative to the user's, a litany of new issues have inflicted this game in new, game-ruining ways. For example, players were unable to enjoy the revamped franchise mode for over a month because they were unable to access the creator files page and download a custom draft class, which to many is a critical component of the game. Additionally, those who wanted to play on the same team as a friend in franchise mode could only use an online franchise in Madden 21, as it would not allow you to play together in an offline franchise. My friend and I assumed this problem would go unfixed in Madden 22, as most bugs do, so we began our first franchise in Madden 22 in an online franchise and spent hours revamping our roster ahead of the start of the season, only to find that in Madden 22, you could NOT play together in an online franchise and could ONLY play together in an offline one. Of all the baffling bugs that afflict this game, this one takes the cake, as they somehow managed to go beyond ignoring the issue and instead made the issue worse in a way that no one could predict and likely wasted hours of time for many players. There are countless other extremely frustrating bugs in every part of this game, but going into more detail would raise my blood pressure to an unsafe level, so I impose you to simply read the other 250+ negative reviews for more specifics. The fact that EA and their game developers look at the product they put out every year and think they did a good job is both horrifying and depressing. Any EA employee that considers themselves to be a professional game developer should be ashamed of themselves, and if I were in their shoes I would genuinely lose the will to live. Andrew Wilson is a thief and a pathetic human being, and this game illustrates that better than anything else. The fact that the NFL, EA, and all associated parties looks at the crime against humanity that is this game and decide to continue to allow EA to maintain the exclusive rights that they have each year makes me lose all faith in our ability to fight corporate greed, as anyone with a clear head would be embarrassed to be associated with this garbage. Every year, I expect to be disappointed by this game, but the new levels of incompetence EA reaches annually continues to baffle me. As I stated earlier, it seems like ineptitude in this game has reached an all-time high that could not possibly be topped, but I am sure they will far surpass this year's stupidity in a plethora of ways that I previously thought were not possible.… Expand

    Its fun to play with other people in the house but I can tell Madden has really sold out as a franchise. I can speak on this since I have been a player since madden 03 as a kid. I won't elaborate but I won't buy another Madden and I hope they lose their exclusive license soon. They need healthy competition.

While improvements were made to franchise as a whole the underlying game itself is still what it has been for the longest time, unfinished. There is no real halftime show, and yet Brandon Gaudin gets pissed when you skip the 10-second blank screen with no stats, no anything. He says one or two sentences, then you're at kickoff. The game looks almost identical on ps4 as on the ps5. Gameplay has had the same issues since Madden 19, y shallow cross leaves the ai defense helpless, we won't talk about that. Oh, and the bugs. There are several videos on YouTube, I'm sure you've seen most of them, just unacceptable of a $60 sports game in 2021. Let's start speaking with our wallets, people. Anybody who has played the recent Madden games (18-22) knows that EA is not going to change the game if we just keep buying it every year and complaining about it. EA DON'T GIVE A **** Play the old ones on the PS2, awesome games. I play NFL 2k5, a masterpiece that has aged like fine wine. to people saying "oh, my friends would make fun of me if they saw me playing a 17-year-old game" **** them.     I want to rate the game higher because of all the new features and effort swami and other devs put into Franchise but the gameplay is so bad its still almost unplayable if you want simulation football. Full of bugs, glitches, and still runs on a FPS shooter engine.

A.I. when defending the pass stick to your receivers like flies to s**t but even when you call press in man coverage there will be a 8 to 10 yard gap between yourGenuinely the worst sports game I have ever played. I have been playing sports simulations games since the early 90s and this is by far and away the worst. Predominantly defence, coverage is broken and open to exploitations. A.I. when defending the pass stick to your receivers like flies to s**t but even when you call press in man coverage there will be a 8 to 10 yard gap between your CB/SS to WR OR TE. The A.I. QB will get the ball hiked and out in there receivers hands in less than a second....if you try that you will through it at the back of your O lines heads!!
    You can literally feel when the A.I. decides to f**k you over stringing 20 yard receptions together over and over again...nothing you can do about it at all.
    tackling is atrocious and feels worst than a couple of years back. you will attempt wrap tackles on the underneath routes and rbs or wrs will get tackled and stumble forward in a glitched animation gaining upto 13 yards (happened to me oin numerous occassions now) how the hell have EA not ended up in court for this s**t as it is blatant mis-selling. this is NOT a sports simulation this is a spammers delight in online modes and a joke in offline modes.
    I like many want a great NFL game that truly represents the sport not this garbage, i dont care who delivers it but clearly EA are incapable of doing so and lets be honest the only reason they still are is the fact they present the sales figures to the NFL as continuing to grow and naively the NFL take that as success.    … Expand

    While the addition of the staff tree is a nice touch, it is woefully below what EA offered for a staff in Head Coach 15 years ago. The Scouting Update, which again is just clawing back to levels the game was at previously, was supposed to be a game changer. A month later, no news whatsoever from EA. I skipped Madden 21, I am sorry I bought Madden 22. I have lost faith in EA.     I am so deeply disappointed. I preordered this game and never felt betrayed and mocked like this time. I gave it the benefit of doubt, but EA cares only about updating the player ratings instead of fixing a totally broken and unplayable game. I really wish there was an option to get a refund, because asking money for this game should be illegal.

I assumed madden would have put the next gen stat tracker on all version of the game but sadly I was mistaken. The only change I saw from 21 to 22 was the UI and some cyberfaces for certain players. As far as gamplay it felt unplayable. Zone defenceI played the game for free during the Kickoff Weekend event on my PC. I exclusively played franchise mode just to get a feel of the game. EA, graphics aren't everything I mean lower the graphics, put the refs back in, create your own team, stadium and everything else you had in 05 This is absolutely ridiculous and I'm completely DONE WITH EA.

    Cmon man, this is not nearly as bad as some people are pointing out to be, it does have it flaws, as every Madden game, and the franchise score bug is inexcusable, but after not buying Madden 21, and coming back this season, this game is clearly better. Stop thinking about it as a simulation game, it clearly is not.

Everything is dependent on animations. Now I quit playing head to head 2 years ago because cheese and meta imbalances. running the same code since 07. Solo battles have turned to a rage fest as players with 5I’ve been a 5 year ultimate team player and I spend close to $1000 every year if not more.     The only reason I’m giving this a 2 is because of minor franchise mode improvements but the franchise mode is still mostly bare bones gameplay sucks career mode is cringy and presentation on current gen is still the same damn thing if you get next gen there are brand new cutscenes and that’s it the game still focuses on ultimate team though

    The madden that sent me into retirement after being a madden player for 30 years. Animations are low quality, unrealistic reactions in coverages and the pass rush is dialed back to nothing. Lead blockers missing blocks, defensive lineman not being able to disengage to make a play. Ratings that mean nothing mostly and overpowered xfactors.

I have encountered so many bugs in this game that it really makes you question if the developers made any attempt at all to listen to the fans like they claimed they had. In franchise mode, my player had 7 interceptions on the season which should have been leading the league, yet on the league leader board it said I had 0. Franchise, and face of the franchise modes, have been abysmal. Instead they put all efforts into promoting MUT and their latest cash grab attempt, the yard. Don't get me wrong, the yard would be a cool idea for some, but why can't they put the effort that they put into creating your character in the yard, to creating a character in the franchise modes? Franchise mode character creation models are still stuck in 2014. It just seems like franchise modes have been forsaken for the sake of MUT and the yard, which is crazy to me because the franchise modes are what gave EA their exclusivity deal with the NFL. They got it with the promise of creating realistic simulations. Now all we get are cash grabs and broken modes.     QB named John Madden. This is not how I want to play the game.

    Franchise mode:
    Despite playing and winning game, upon return I have 0 stat and point for the game and am given an L.
    This 'feature' make the mode unplayable as it unfairly punishes player for no reason.

    The only mode which works is MUT, but even that is compromised by not being able to access EA server services.

    There are improvements and features being promised by the devs which means they intentionally released an incomplete product.

    Constant crashes in franchise mode, several times my offense stays on the field for defense after a touchdown (only seen in pre-season games) a few features in franchise mode are unavailable.. the bugs alone just make this unplayable.

    Why even make a new game? Still full of glitches, the story mode is so bad it’s unplayable, and no crossplay… I can’t even play on PS4 with a friend on PS5. I would’ve been better off continuing to play on the horrible Madden21 instead. And that’s saying a lot.

Plus Zone defenses did not work and issues with franchise mode crashing on me in the trial. If I can get one of the millions of free copies they are giving away then maybe I will play it!

If the NFL was smart they would drop EA from the current agreement. They would bring in so much more money with multiple companies making a simulation based football game. Madden 2003 to 2008 had so much more depth by far in franchise mode. And with EA taking out old features and bringing them back years later trying to sell it as new needs to stop as well. Same with the dialing back the graphics to add a few things to make it look like they did some work. It's all just pure laziness and lack of any sort of passion. Clearly the guys making the game have never watched football before. And lets not forget the fact that you still can't challenge anything in the game. That needs to be fixed. You should be able to challenge a multitude of things on a single play depending on what happened during that play. Have a list of things to pick from when challenging the play just like it did in ESPN NFL 2K5. A game way back in 2004 destories Madden 22 in every single way minus graphics. Then let's talk about the blocking. The game doesn't even form a pocket when your passing the ball so you can't read it right, the run blocking logic is broken as all hell. Pulling linemen go nowhere near where they are suppose to go. And there are even a good number of instances where your lineman/lead blocker runs right by the guy he was suppose to block or just runs into him and doesn't block him at all and just runs down field not blocking anybody. The whole game needs to be rebuilt from the ground up. You still can't renegotiate contracts, players no longer hold out, mini-camp hasn't been a thing since madden 08 and needs to return for depth and replayability, position battles needs to return for the same reason, refs need to return to the field, penalties need to be fixed to simulate what happens in real life, the horse collar penalty is still not in the game to this day, some of the more severe injuries needs to make a return to the game like concussions, a full coaching staff needs to be added in the game including the position coaches with meaningful impact to player performance during the game and season, remove players warping in the game, add physics, make size meaningful (6'4" 230 pound guy should win jump balls 95% of the time on anybody 5'10" and shorter under 220 and the bigger RBs should be able to plow over smaller defenders. Make size matter instead of only speed), remove players melding through other players bodies, add real models to the sidelines, add normal coaching staff you see on the sidelines in real life in the game on the sidelines, Make chemistry with the team something meaningful. They need to add personality to the players in the game too including their egos like what Antonio Brown and O'Dell Beckham have. Player awareness needs to be an actual thing in terms of where they are on the field, who blitzing, transferring players from zone to zone correctly, zones covering the full field sideline to sideline, knowing what the score is throughout the game, and stuff like that. The commentary crew needs to be more in tune with what's actually happening and you should be able to choose your cast. All of what I have said here is non-existent in the game. It makes the user interface even worse now. And game play glitches are all over in this Madden. Some from Madden 21 make a return in the new Madden. Save your money, don't buy

The “coordinater” is bare bones minimum. Can’t change names, can’t change looks. No depth, its done worse than NCAA 14, there is no carousel system. There is ZERO reason to buy this game.     First off I was in franchise mode won the game 14-30 I go back to the home screen of franchise mode says I lost 14-0, it shows 0's across the box score. Second off, franchise mode has the coach in his office for split seconds making the game heavy laggy and slow ea needs to fix this, ea needs to stop making football games, ea sucks.

    And guess who doesn't pay for card packs or their copies of Madden..
    Shame on them for knowing this game is atrocious and yet they push it onto people anyways.

    I like the new presentation I enjoy after making a play how they run it back much better then last year. Gameplay is still a mess, I'm not sure how ea thought this was ok to to give us fans. Zones are still horrible, double teams don't really work, wr still dropping balls for no reason. Same bugs same glitches as the past years and then some. I also don’t get why Sony who has a certain standard for its online store doesn’t take out a product this badly rated because of glitches and bugs….if they canJust don’t get why and how they are able to get away with this at EA. EA did NOT add any new presentations, such as Superbowl or pre-game, they made two seperate versions AGAIN with this game. If you are interested in playing this poor excuse of a video that is literally a copy and paste from last year with added buggynessThis game is NOT good!     This is absolutely terrible. Got like 10-20 annoying glitches within my first 5 hours of playing. It's the same game as last year!!! STOP GIVING EA YOUR MONEY WHEN THEY PULL STUFF LIKE THIS EVERY YEAR WITH US.

    Why the **** did the NFL renew the license to EA? The gameplay is ****ing horrible, even NFL players talk about how horrible the AI is in this game. Its nowhere near a simulation game. NFL needs to wake up and let other companies make NFL games. Its the ONLY way EA will ever step up their game

    The game is awful. The company has to be one of the worst in video games. They rather spend on a flashy Madden commercial than hiring competent devs to fix that abortion they call a game. Save your money and make it known with your wallet.

    I really didn't think it could get worse than Madden 21, but man was I wrong more bugs and glitches than last year, they didn't even remove 21 assets as the game loads them from both 21 and 22 on top of each other. Face of Franchise took a major step backwards. Defensive AI is honestly the worst I've seen in years, even their "new" franchise features aren't in the game upon release, youI really didn't think it could get worse than Madden 21, but man was I wrong more bugs and glitches than last year, they didn't even remove 21 assets as the game loads them from both 21 and 22 on top of each other. Face of Franchise took a major step backwards. Defensive AI is honestly the worst I've seen in years, even their "new" franchise features aren't in the game upon release, you have to wait for the first major update for the new draft and scouting features, if you can not tell this is a blatant copy and paste of assets with a few tweaks here and there, then you will never notice what makes sports games truly good. At this point they should rename this franchise MUT 22,23,24 etc because that is all it is, a Gatcha Sports Mobile game on Console and PC. smh Awful..… Expand

    Madden is a billion dollar franchise that has grown content. Thanks to its exclusivity deals, EA takes zero risks and fumbles each year providing us rehashed versions of previous entries. Madden NFL 22 is no different. Meager improvements are outweighed by series fatigue. Instead of focusing on giving us polished gameplay mechanics and an improved Franchise Mode, EA's focus is divided into unwelcome modes like Face The Franchise and The Yard leading to an overall incomplete and broken experience.
