Very underrated. This is a beautiful game with fantastic, challenging gameplay. The combat is great, and it has a nice learning curve. Do not overlook this game, it is a gem.

Do you want to play a game like Dark Souls where it is nearly impossible to beat, or even progress from location to location, and have it be done with a very slow-moving character, with less quality overall? Play Lords of the Fallen.

A horribly hybridization of other games wrapped in an abused Dark Souls package, this game is a disgusting mess. And that's not even counting the awful bugs it had on launch.

Clearly built as a "me too" genre game on the heels of the Souls series, Lords of the Failure reeks of generic designs and gameplay. The combat is laughable when it's not borish, the story feels painfully close to an attempt to meld Souls with Gears of War (creating an awful and confusing mess in the end), and the graphics, while very well done, are dull and feel like the designs have been lifted from better games and movies. And graphical fidelity alone will never save a game

It attempts to mimic the Souls series so much so that it reaches the uncanny valley on that alone, making the entire gameplay process feel similar enough to be creepy. Though it does meander from the Dark Souls formula to try and become its own style, it does so in an awful and frustrating direction; if you've played the souls series, and enjoyed that gameplay, Lords of the Fallen will not deliver more of the same. If anything, it will leave you more disappointed than ever with its slow controls, awkward combat, over-the-top dramatic moves and opponents (The first "boss" you fight in the game at one point literally spins across the room like a dancer, flipping its great-sword around and around like an awkward LARPer), and lackluster story.

What brief glimpses you get of the plot is intriguing, but far too shallow to sustain interest The player is thrown into the role of some criminal named Harkyn. Immediately this removes a good deal of immersion from the game as you are now bearing witness to someone elses story rather than taking a part in your own. And though you have dialogue options, they don't provide any sort of branching story line or even personal changes to "Harkyn," regardless of your intentions. You are forever stuck as the gruff angry ex-con with a big sword and chip on his shoulder.

The end result is a clunky, crashy, cranky, crooked game that wishes it could be something great, but tries far too hard to be something worse in the process. The only good price is free, and then it's an abuse of HDD space. I can only surmise that once again, several people padded the score for this steaming pile of software. It gets a one simply because they patched most of the nonsense stability issues, but is still barely worth the effort.

Dark Souls without the charm, precision, or rewarding difficulty. It's a pretty game, but that's about it. The story and gameplay are hollow and lifeless. There's some potential here, so I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel if they can build off what they've learned, but it needs some serious work to compete with the DS series.

For example - magical glove that is basically distance weapon that works in three modes as for example gun or grenade launcher. It was unnecessary and except for testing it a few times I haven't used it since. As a test I tried kiting one boss to death with it and succeeded after some 20 minutes.

There are several types of enemies you meet. Some of them are more difficult to kill than bosses. I don't mean that they're hard, just some bosses are too easy. In general, you beat most of bosses on first or second attempt once you've figured out their mechanics. The enemies you meet towards the end of game are a little uninspired but that has rather to do with the story. I'll just say that I never knew you could sprint so well in full plate armor.

    Graphics:
The game looks really well. Visuals, locations and settings are very appealing and interesting. Unfortunately there's a lot of backtracking. Initial satisfaction with presentation is diminished once you've realised you've seen whole place and than you simply backtrack to new bosses. There are also issues with performance and although I haven't tested it with any tools, you can feel drops in FPS and in places there's constant drop in FPS.

    Sounds and soundtrack:
This is the strongest part of the game - soundtrack is brilliant. Music, ambients and sound effects are fitting and well made. I wish there was more because tracks repeat too often and by the time you've finished game you may get a little sick with a few tracks that repeat most.

    Story and characters:
It's pathetic. I've guessed who's going to be the end boss nearly from the get go. Story is almost non-existent and what little we get is unsatisfactory. Characters are bland, boring and stereotypical. Some of them I don't know why where put into the game (because their impact is non-existent). Some of these characters' actions are hard to understand but I won't get into details (certain woman and certain huge monster). That's much to say considering this game has no more than 10 characters total of which maybe 3 say more than one sentence.

    Final notice:
The game was a tad unstable. I have played it in late 2015 so long after it was released and patched. During my playthrough I had about 3-4 crashes. It's a tad annoying considering this game's difficulty.

Overall I'd say this game could be described in one word - mediocre. It excels only in sounds department. I have finished it but I'd lie if I said I haven't forced myself a little to do this.

If you have nothing else to play and you can get it for no more than 15$, it's worth it.

Compared with games that released in the same year, for example Dark Souls 2, This game did very good on graphic. However, the other aspects are needed to be improved. Gameplay is a clone from soul series but not as good as original. UI is terrible. Button layout is terrible. Also you are not allow to save game manually. You have to save at checkpoint, or save when you leave area, this feels awkward for a game in 2014. Game mechanic is very slow and clunky but still playable after you play for a while. Difficult is little below Darksouls but I do not mind that. Balance is not good. In late part of the game, after I got good great sword + best rune + best amulet, I could one shot most of enemies in the game, except boss and enemies in last location (required 2 swings). I felt satisfied but at the same time, felt cheap. I like the story of this game even though it is not as great as other RPG games that heavily based on story like Witcher 3 or Dragon Age. This game still did better than Dark Souls in term of story. It is much easy to understand what we are doing and why. The map design in this game is very confused, like a maze. I don't like that and Crash happened to me once.

Lastly, NO MULTIPLAYER, give big minus scorees to the game.

In sum, if you never played this kind of game before, I would recommend Dark Souls 3 and Bloodbonre since they are newer, have faster paced and can COOP PVP. You can also play Dark Souls 2 afterward. If you already finished all those three, then you can select Lords of the fallen to kill your time while waiting for NIOH. That is it for this game !

pros and cons from the perspective of dks fan

    pros:
    -graphics
-weapon and armor feeling, especially heavy
-fully copied dks mechanics (no need to change its perfection)
    -challenge portals
-boss phases (with quite different movesets and openings)
-loads of stuff hidden around, including the 'leave the main area and explore sideways' possibilities
-subtle improvements (keeping exp instead of leveling/saving gives you a bonus multiplier, lost exp gives you a temporarly buff in cost of loosing that exp)

    cons:
-glitches and unstable fps - totally unacceptable on the ps4 (!!!!!), it cost the game at least 1 point in 1-10 scale, cause its uber frustrating
-RNG - fix it guys, see how dks does that, fighting a particular enemy in LOTF can be super easy or almost impossible, depending on RNG, i fought the second boss (guardian ?) couple of times and he was just spamming his AOE with no break, making it impossible to even look for an opening, and the last time ive fought him 80% of his attacks were leaving openings (ridiculous difference, huh ?), its not a fair game like dks, you need to be helluva lucky during a speed run (and the game was meant to be a speedrun base)
-cheesy way of hardening enemies - putting an enemy with a huge shield with little openings (which forces you to change your weapon, cause you wont hit in that half a second with a heavy one) is just boring and slowing the game, its not how its supposed to challenge you
-no stun lock (?), srsly guys if i hit even a huge guy with a combo of huge hammer heavy attacks it should at least break his attack, and most of the time i hit the big guy hard and half a sec later he hits me back like it was nothing - totally broken mechanics, again - see how dks did that
-skirmisher's rng - they walk around me in a circles, neither attacking nor defending - somebody screw these guys hard, especially that when they start attacking they are a really well done enemy
-dialogs and npc - really bad, if you put a dialog options at least let them continue so they would feel as an actual conversation leading somewhere, not just click everything and maybe it will work out, also main character gesticulate too much, its a bad ass convict, not a gold chained cheap rapper ;)

    neutral:
-let people choose the difficulty level - i guess most of the dks fans would start this game on ng+ if it was possible, as the ng is much easier then dks
-a multiplayer, like a normal match-making arena pvp would be nice and kept the game alive for a longer period of time
-lack of group fights, i guess CI Games wanted to make every fight more intimate, 1on1 style, but raging through like 5-15 weak enemies would also give some fun, it rips the game of crowd-control which is very important in dks in comparison

as you could see most of the cons could have been fixed with a good update patch, no idea why it havent been done yet

my overall opinion would is 6,5/10 and 7,5/10 (if glitches and frame drops fixed), leaving 7/10 in between

buy this game, support the devs, encourage them to make a real dks competition :)

Lords of the Fallen is the manifestation of said flattery and imitation, though it has one trait that distinguishes it from FromSoftwares' modern classic - it's not as difficult as the game that inspired it. This, however, is a double edged sword that works for and against LOTF, sometimes equally and at other times more so against it.

Starting with LOTF's narrative, you take the role of Harkyn, a criminal with an amalgam of sins tattooed across his face. Harkyn has been freed from prison to fight the Rhogar - demonic warriors from another realm who are attacking a monastery and threaten to invade the rest of the world (or something - that bit is a little vague and not really properly explained). Character-wise, Harkyn isn't very interesting or charismatic, and the rest of the cast fare no better. The story isn't only forgettable, but also strangely absent, as there are no strong defining moments at any point throughout the roughly 12 to 15 hour playthrough - you simply go through corridor after corridor looking for the next boss to defeat to advance the plot.

Combat and overall movement ranges between acceptable and sluggish, feeling unrefined when compared to Dark Souls. As much as I relished the easier difficulty, I noticed some issues with LOTF - early on the difficulty scaling of some enemies felt unbalanced. The Commander boss fight in particular felt badly designed. On the subject of boss fights, LOTF's boss fights range from underwhelming to just simply unfair at times because of certain unique attacks they possess, but also because of Harkyn's speed and reliance on melee combat. Wearing a full set of heavy armour makes Harkyn's dodge rolls insultingly glacial, a thing which frustrated me greatly.

Some design elements make great additions to the Souls formula. For one thing, you can bank accumulated experience points to generate Skill Points or Magic Points and resting at a 'bonfire' crystal DOESN'T respawn defeated enemies - only when Harkyn is defeated do enemies respawn. In terms of art style and aesthetic, LOTF feels like a combination of Dark Souls, Dragon Age, Darksiders and Diablo.

Lords of the Fallen should have been an obvious win-win - a Dark Souls game for beginners. The result is a game that tries new things to be more accessible and forgiving, but at the same time feels lesser because of it. Ultimately, Lords of the Fallen can't escape the 'Dark' (Souls) shadow of its inspirations.

Yeah, this game is entirely dedicated to the same players that enjoy the souls games and that could want a new approach from a different company.

However is with games like this, when you realize how good in their job the guys at from software are. Many combats are bland, with a lot of encounters with enemies that are unnecesarily defensive. And not the defensive type where you can devise some creative approaches to make them drop their guard, but the annoying type that makes you lose a lot of time with almost no feeling of reward.

That's another bad thing of this game. The feeling of reward is quite poor.

Also, many bosses give you some extra ways to deal with them, but all in an environment where bad decisions in the playability will help to feel this quite lacking.

Would I recommend this game to a fan of the Souls games that feels 'thirsty' and wants even more of this kind of games? No. Rent it first, maybe. Because if you find things you just don't like the first hours... believe me, that feeling will stay with you the rest of the game. Instead of buying this I recommend replaying the other souls games, with any of their many fighting roles (warrior, cleric, mage, a mix of them, or playing with a half naked for some added challenge, whatever) you haven't yet used.

You know, there is so much wasted potential here. They could have added a great backstory and an explicit narrative, for all those that don't understand that the souls games have a story, but hidden in its details. Even so, the story is shallow and the narrative is mediocre, so even for detractors of the souls games that criticize their narrative they will find no added value in here.

its like an easy dark souls but with many glitches that would make you think that it had never been tested such as on the second boss fight (the commander) he will either stop fighting and stand still allowing you to get him to almost 0% health on the first try or that when fighting him he will take no damage at all making the boss fight impossible to finish

Next up, I like its heavier style of dark souls gameplay, Harkyn moves like a giant when in heavy or medium weight and the hits of steels and hammers when you hit your enemies are satisfying and its sound is very great and painful. Lastly, the only thing that this game had that dark souls never had is its experience system, the more you kill, the bigger your XP mutiplier will become and resting in a chekpoint would reset that multiplier. it gives me the feeling that i want to kill more without using my stored XP for more experiences and also another challenge that is worth to take on.

As to the cons, Game is so short. yep, you could finish it in a day or in a few hours. Next up, the characters NPCs are not memorable, hell you could even forget them seconds after you talk to them, even the protagonist, whom the developers wanted to be like a kratos-like figure is so boring and unremarkable. They should improve on that part. Lastly, the thing that dark souls have that this game doesnt: The Bosses, all the boss of this games are easy to beat. SO EASY, i only died in one boss. AND THATS THE DLC BOSS WHICH IS A CHEAP ASS MF (F*ck you KEEPER)...thats that. Thanks

    Gameplay:
There are no unique gameplay elements in this game; almost everything is ripped straight from Dark Souls. In addition, the developers seem to have forgotten some things, as most enemies' attacks are near-impossible to dodge; hitboxes are ridiculously large, the timing is off, and even if you DO dodge, the enemies tend to rotate mid-attack so they connect anyway. The first boss of the game is, I assume, intended to be relatively easy. Due to the issues mentioned, it ends up taking far too many tries to beat, IF you beat it at all. The boss has an attack that should give you an opening to land a few hits, but the mid-attack rotating causes you to be hit instead half the time, though the attack is supposed to be easy to dodge.

    Graphics:
The game looks alright, but there are many bugs, such as objects sliding around and snapping back into place, walls not rendering if you turn too quickly, and several out-of-place frames during cutscenes. The animation, especially during cutscenes, is very clunky, and during dialogue portions it just looks unnatural.

    Story:
    Very bland and cliche-filled.

There is a random loot generator similarly to the one in Diablo, the level-up system is different, and the character creator is also somewhat different, leaving you with nine different "classes" that won't mean anything because your character changes over the duration of the game (much like Dark Souls actually).

The game mechanics are, however, in essence the same as Dark Souls, however it is striking how a game which relies so heavily on the most fluent and dynamic game mechanics I have experienced to date can become the most clunky and slow-paced piece of crap in existence. It is as unbalanced as it gets. First off, strength builds is either way too powerful against almost any boss, but completely nonnviable the moment you face someone with a shield. this is credited to the EXTREMELY slow strength weapons in the game. Seriously, look it up on youtube before you buy this game. A dexterity build is a bit more balanced overall, however really boring because it's still pretty slow. Lastly, the magic build is not something I've played because I heard someone say that it's way OP, and I didn't want to make the game easier than it already was.

Which brings me to my next point, the difficulty. Now, unless you run into a shield-bearer as a strength build, this game really isn't a challenge. I actually beat most of the bosses simply by having a lot of poise and a strength weapon, and the just beat at them till they dropped, and I only ever died in my first playthrough because I was strength build and faced off against shield-bearers.

So here's the advice I can give. If you've never played Dark Souls, play that instead of buying this. If you have played Dark Souls and enjoyed it, don't buy this, it's **** compare to those masterpieces. If you have tried to play Dark Souls and believed that it was too hard, way, WAY too fast paced and you didn't get the lore, then git gud or play The Witcher 3. This game really isn't worth it.

The game makes absolutely no qualms about being a soul-like hack and slash. It takes numerous mechanics from the series and tampers with them a little bit to put its own original spin on them. For example the Souls staple of returning to where you died to recover your lost XP is done here with "Ghost Shards" but the catch is that, dependent on your multiplier at the time of your death, the XP is lost little by little the longer you take to recover it. It's a novel idea but always rendered moot by a wealth of checkpoints (their answer to fireplaces) being available in each level. Whilst in Souls on a first run through finding a fireplace was often a case of "Oh thank GOD" in LotF they are pretty much about 5 minutes apart. As such their clever little timer mechanic with the XP doesn't really work. However the multiplier for your XP (raises with every enemy killed) does encourage you to proceed on without activating a checkpoint as doing so resets your multiplier. The problem with THIS is that it really is not hard to level up in LotF. I activated most checkpoints I found and was flying up the levels.

Graphically it shines in some areas and fails in others. It's been said a lot here that it doesn't run especially well and that is true, it does judder a little here and there but not so much as to make it unplayable. The detail on characters is quite impressive but both areas and enemies are quite bland and samey. Every level is a grey montage of stone lined hallways and paths and every enemy is either "Demon Dude with Shield" or "Hideous Abomination." The problem is that there isn't much deviation in the enemy types. Demon Dudes basically come at you with different weapons but mainly turtle behind shields making them frustrating to fight. Abominations tend to scuttle at you, fire off something AoE based, probably with poison involved or hit you with an unblockable grab if you crowd them. Basically it all gets quite repetitive after very little game time and the problem persists to their bosses. Anything trying to copy Souls needs a distinct focus on bosses and lord knows they tried here but the bosses are really just bigger versions of the grunts. Their moves are telegraphed to high heaven, they'll have an AoE that'll prove annoying and at least one move you can't do anything about. But they don't hit that hard and their move pools are shallow enough that in a minute or so you'll have seen everything they have to offer. They all have at least a couple of "forms" or "stages" as you damage them but that usually just either adds one more move or maybe some summoned allies. It doesn't challenge you due to their design it challenges you more due to the controls.

My biggest gripe with LotF is that the controls are kind of sluggish. It kind of feels like you're constantly playing as an encumbered character in souls but a little quicker. Or that you're using a greatsword all the time and you need to time the wind-ups. The whole thing just feels a little slower and wheezing compared to souls or Nioh. It isn't offensively bad but paired with the predictable enemy AI it doesn't challenge you much.

The storyline is unfortunately really not that great and they offer you multiple dialogue answers like a Bethesda game but the voice acting is not superb and the writing doesn't really grab you so you find yourself not really caring that you have a choice of dialogue at all. The story simply ends up impeding you getting back to strafing a demon dude waiting for him to hit attack sequence 2 of 3 so you can chip a little health away and repeat.

There is a lot here that is well intentioned and there are some smart gameplay design choices that they made to seperate from Souls a little. I respect that much at least but it is almost as though they figured they could be a good Souls-Like by just going "Kind of difficulty, focus on the bosses, if you die you lose XP". That isn't all Souls is and that is what Nioh understood but LotF doesn't. Souls is a perfect mix of brilliant level design, sound design and a crisp combat system against varied and challenging enemies. Even if you take the plot out of the equations it is much more than what LotF goes for. You could claim it is unfair to compare it to Souls but when something copies SO MUCH of the combination that makes Souls good it becomes impossible not to.

I don't find LotF offensively bad or even a poor copy. It's playable and as I have said it does try to put a new spin on things but unfortunately lack-lustre plot, level design, enemy design and combat make it fall flat; all things that Nioh did well proving that other studios can hit the same note as Souls did if they try. If you see it on a sale or claimed it on PSN when it was free but never tried it then it is worth installing and giving a few hours but not much past that. It simply ends up being a budget version of what it tried to emulate.

Well, where do i even start with this one...Let me be quite straightforward if you just want to know whether this game is good or not. It isn't. Now let me explain why.

First of all, i've been playing games since i was 4 years old. I'm 27 now, and never EVER in my whole life i played something so bad and horrible as this game. 2 hours in and i wanted to stop. Why? I was feeling empty, completely devoid of any emotion as i was playing this thing, maybe because the game is completely uninspiring, bland and forgettable. The environment is just there, with no atmosphere at all. Sometimes it felt like i was playing an old Quake Mod or American Mcgee's Alice. Chunks of platforms floating in the air, creatures that looked like they were ripped straight from a Quake game attacking me. Most of the time i was going through tight ass corridors or big halls or big caves that looked all the same. I've seen places like this before in other games, but at least in these other games, they were interesting.

The enemies, like i said, were just bland. Nothing original. Big, bulky dudes wearing armors with red-eyes. Sometimes i couldn't identify which enemy was attacking me because they were so similar, their attack patterns being the only thing that is different. Speaking of which, this game's controls are just...bad. Controls are slow as **** that alongside the input latency makes this game unplayable sometimes. Your character can barely roll out of an attack, let alone attack and roll in less than 10 seconds without losing the entire stamina bar.

Fighting against trash mobs is not that difficult once you figure out their attack patterns (also, you'll find like 10 different enemies through the entire ****ing game. Not a lot of variation), the problem are the bosses. They are attack sponges and will definitely give you some headaches before being killed. They have it all: Quick 1-2-3 attack patterns, AOE attacks that are strong as **** attacks that can easily break your defense and the **** "how did that hit me" attack. These are the moments where the game shows how broken the gameplay is. It's just...trust me, it's pretty broken. I can't put in words how bad it is.

The main character is a random bald guy. He was put in prison for some reason. Who cares? Not me. But the devs think you do, because they spread a ****ton of scroll through the entire bland world of LotF so you can get it and listen (yes, the scrolls are actually audio logs, don't ask me...) to this game's story, which is about you saving the world from evil...original. The other characters in the game are as bland as the main dude. All of them are forgettable, with one exception: There is a chick in this game, the only one as far as i can tell. She is ANNOYING as **** She bothers you all the time, talking and **** about everything. I didn't finish this game, but i do hope that in the end Harkyn (the protagonist) kills this **** The dialogue is quite bad and cringy. Voice acting is really forgettable as the game itself. The only saving grace in the audio department is the Soundtrack, which is quite good. Dude who made the game's Soundtrack, i'm very sorry for you and for your beautiful work, because it will go down in history for being the best soundtrack in the worst game ever.

I'm saving the best for last, though. The game's performance. Now, i'll be honest. The game has some beautiful graphics, even on consoles (i played it on PS4). Volumetric Lightning, Dynamic Shadows, Particle Effects and etc are all well made. Textures are kinda meh, but they dialed it down to make it work on the console...well, guess what? It didn't make a difference. This game is not stable at all. Framerate is below 30 almost at all times. Also, there is screen tearing. Yes, screen tearing and framerate drops...it is a joke, isn't it? What's the point of disabling V-Sync if you're gonna have a game that keeps dropping below 30 all the ****ing time? It's annoying and it reeks of 360/PS3 era...and it's not far from the truth, after all, this game was being developed for both consoles from last gen. Imagine if it was released back then...

All in all, this game is a disappointment. I felt bad for spending money in it. Now i literally lost my will to keep playing games. I'm not kidding. This game made me feel depressed. Please, DON'T EVER BUY THIS GAME. Even if they give away for free. It's horrendous. It's uninspiring. It's bland and buggy (crashes and sometimes you can't activate checkpoints for no reason whatsoever. Dying or leaving the area until you get a loading screen will fix it). The team responsible for this **** should feel ashamed of releasing a ****ing disasters such as this. Disappointing....

2/10 for the graphics and Soundtrack. The rest can burn in hell for all i care, including the horrible dev team.

Playing this in 2021 and I can't understand the low scores - it must have had a lot of technical issues at launch. It's a really great game and often on sale for very cheap. I played it after playing Dark Souls 1, 2, 3 and Bloodborne - and it's still a lot of a fun - if not quite as polished as a From Soft game. It clocks in around 15 hrs too - so kind of a Souls LITE or Light Souls if you will.

I can say that was one of the best games of my life, and in special in this new generation. This game have a special place in my gamer heart. Can give an easy and honest 8,5 for this game. NICE GRAPHICS, NICE GAMEPLAY, FUNNY GAME, NICE ART DIRECTION, NICE MAP, WELL CONSTRUCTED AREAS, CREATIVE GAME, CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THE PRODUCER INVOLVED.
The only reason why I can see low grades for this game is why people are comparing to souls games, but if you judge the game for itself it’s an great 8/9 game.
Payed 4$ in PSN one of my best investments.
If you like great, big, hard and nice games I recommend this one easily.

This is one of the weirdest games I've ever played. Though it tries to borrow some elements from Dark Souls, it comes nowhere close to it in terms of difficulty. The bosses were uninspiring, some areas were maze-like and you could easily get lost in them.

    2) The look of armor sets
    3) the strength character out of the 3 you choose at the start) His abilities were OP and fun to use.
The only problem is that after that character, you are forced to choose from the remaining 2 on that same save file and the other 2 don't come close to being as fun as the strength build.
So overall: Interesting game, lovely soundtrack, nice armor sets, nice starting character.
I might re-install it to start on another save file

I played this game in a sequence after Bloodborne and Dark Souls Trilogy, and do not understand why this game has such poor reviews.
The graphics are okay-ish, the story is okay-ish, but the gameplay, the combat, the exploration, all borrow heavily from FromSoft and is adequately executed. Without FromSoft, this is the next best thing.

This game is a tremendous bummer. I'm not a very critical gamer, and I love Soulslikes. Unfortunately, I could barely get through the first few hours of this game before having to put it down. The frame rate is all over the place, making the visual experience very jarring, and it's full of bugs. You would think it would have been properly patched in the 6 years since release.

The aesthetics initially seem to be right on, but eventually you realize it's all sort of generic medieval fantasy and lacking in specificity.

For some reason, your character moves like a sloth, even if you have the lightest armor, best agility, and quickest weapons. Many of your opponents don't have this limitation, so watch them dance around you as you roll in slow motion only to get whacked and knocked down for 10 minutes.

The UI is an ugly mess, and once you realize how underwhelming the magic and gear offerings are, you're left without much reason to continue.

Do yourself a big favor and play any of the Dark Souls games instead. Or if you've played all those, go for Nioh/Nioh 2.

    The Good: Graphics designs.

The Bad: Poor story, horrible combat. Enemies often ignores player defensive (shield up). AI of enemies is horrible, they can go around you for 5 minutes with theirs shield up and suddenly they run away to their original "patrol route". Sound of dialog, when it disappeared it never came back. Game has 8 years and yet it still has many bugs.

From the very beginning of the game, the rhythm of the dark fantasy "Diablolike" was set, the completely taken over control from Dark Souls was immediately noticed (not a bad thing) and everything seems to be fine. BUT! WHY WHEN I GET 5 HITS FROM MOBS, I LOSE ONLY 10 PERCENT OF MY HP? This could still be tolerated, well, casual darksouls, maybe the action itself is interesting, but no, all mobs up to the first boss (including himself) are killed simply by pinching a walk in the side around the enemy, and after a blow. But even after that, things only got worse, the attacks are so long that it is unrealistic (for example, the boss had a sword attack from top to bottom, so it is so long that the feeling creeps in that he holds the sword so that he does not fall). Of course, if you want to play Dark Souls with 10 times reduced damage to you, 2 times slower game, and completely remove the complexity of enemy attacks, then it's up to you. But in this game, even the dark fantasy art style is very poorly implemented, there is nothing to look at. 1 out of 10 (1 point with the fact that the game is soulslike) Expand

Lords of the Fallen is a decent enough RPG that is heavily inspired by the Souls series. It's very difficult to walk into this game without constantly comparing the two games however once you get past the initial set-up for Lords of the Fallen it holds up well on its own in terms of combat and RPG-like mechanics.

For anyone wanting to scratch the Souls-like genre itch but don't want to dive into the brutality of Dark souls, Lords of the Fallen is worth a shot. I would like to mention that the NG+ and NG++ experience is extremely un-balanced. Bosses take 10-15 minutes and it becomes extremely tedious to wittle down their HP whilst focusing not to get 2-shotted. I would rate the NG+ experience a 2/10 to be completely honest.

Lords of the Fallen is an admirable lower budget Dark Souls knock-off that's unfortunately too bland to make it stand out in any real way from the competition. Everything it does -- from combat design, level design, and boss design -- is serviceable, yet wholly generic.

Expand
