Through my run I found some of the puzzles so confusing on how to solve them that I had to look up the wiki just to understand them. I don't mind a challenge, but you need to be able to communicate that better to players or you will have downtime, frustrations and even anger. The gameplay is a mess with clunky controls that often led to cheap deaths. In my 5 hour journey of this game, I died over 15 times and almost always was from poor communication of what to do next. The story itself is too rushed to feel much for what is going on and interesting places don't have enough to be memorable despite the odd and intriguing second half. The visuals look good, the creatures look creepy and unnerving and the music can add to the tension, but it can only get you so far when the previous issues feel so obvious and yet nonconstructive.

Little Nightmares is not $20 worth. Some might go farther to say not even $10, and it doesn't help that the game boasts a season pass for an additional $10. Such a price feels like greed rather than a fully completed game. Perhaps if the DLC was already in the game and we played two different characters then maybe this would be a different story overall for the game's quality. Unfortunately, this is an overpriced frustratingly interesting game that doesn't feel as creative and unique as it thinks it is. Only the most ardent lovers of these types of games will like this. For everyone else this is a wait for half off or more and likely a pass on the DLC. A decent game with much disappointment.

A game I would want to like, but is faulted by 2 major problems. One, the controls are overdone and do not respond half of the time. Second, the check points are to far apart from each other. Often I would make it though a tough part only to be killed thanks to the control. I like the graphics and atmosphere but it's too frustrating to play. Play Inside instead of this.

Sometimes a game comes along that revivals a movie or book that you got so engrossed in that you didn't realize you were playing it as much as taking everything in. This game does that. Just a few more minutes, ends up being a whole play through with no breaks.

I absolutely love this game, this is probably one of the strongest and most competent indie games I’ve played in a really long time.

The story is really simple but effective, a girl wants to escape from a place where monsters eat children and runs away from weird foes, a lot of people say that this game has no story and I disagree, however I do find it to be really simple, the developers did a lot of visual storytelling and I love when games do that, a lot of people also complained that this game left a lot of unanswered questions but I’m fine with that, there is three dlc stories that will come out and they will maybe answer some of the questions. I should mention that this game has some seriously disturbing imagery, there are some grotesque people design, the way they act and the sound they make really made me feel uncomfortable.

The gameplay is vastly superior to games like Inside or Limbo, it’s a mix between a 2D and 3D platformer, I really appreciate that this game has a more 3D style of gameplay, it does not make the stealth and escape levels too linear, the environments are at times breathtaking, the sound design is unnerving and the atmosphere is incredible, I got more into this game than in Inside, from a technical perspective, I found this game to be a complete success.

My only problem with the game is that it is a bit overpriced, it took me 3-4 hours to finish the main story, but it doesn’t change the fact how much fun I had with this game, it’s a really good 2D-3D platformer game and it’s more effective than a lot of horror games I’ve ever played, if you like these types of games, don’t hesitate to buy it, it’s one of my favorite games of this year and I highly recommend it.

While it's clearly takes inspiration from Limbo and Inside, Little Nightmares manages to add enough to its gameplay to make it stand apart from them as a strong addition to the genre. It's a creepy and somewhat unsettling platformer with a great atmosphere that certainly requires a second playthrough.

Little Nightmares is, in many ways, less effective than its contemporaries. Limbo & Inside are also side-scrolling, puzzle/platformer, adventure games with an emphasis on horror. Little Nightmares feels like a cheapened version of these two, more successful titles, and for good reason. The horror is focused more on shock value, and the tense moments are few and far between. The real horror is the controls, which perform to simply mock the player.

Sometimes you'll jump and you'll grab onto a ledge. Other times you won't, and you'll fall to your death. Which leads to a nonsensically long load time for such a simple game and a checkpoint that could be anywhere from five seconds to five minutes ago. This gamble is the true frustration. As for a story, you won't truly understand any of it until the end if you decide to stick with it. The piecemeal information isn't enough to add up to a worthwhile whole.

Despite these shortcomings, Little Nightmares excels with its visuals and sound. Though the brightness can be a gamble, especially when navigating the environmental puzzles. It's best just to turn it all the way up, or you might find yourself stuck, only to find you were simply supposed to jump through a vent to continue. In that sense, the puzzles are non-existent. They're more like "visual identifiers," because all you have to do is know where you're supposed to go, and it's easy enough to figure out how to get there.

Regarding its negative aspects, and the short length of 5 hours, I would only recommend Little Nightmares if it was offered cheap.

Little Nightmares is a puzzle platforming horror game where you play as a girl trying to escape the maw…
And apparently you’re delicious because everyone here is trying to eat you…
This is probably one of the coolest 2d platforming games I’ve ever played…
The puzzles aren’t difficult here and the platforming isn’t really difficult either…
At first you’re for the most part you’re just going forward.
    Going over obstacles, pulling items,
throwing switches, and figuring out fairly simple environmental puzzles…
and then you run into your first enemy... and this is where things get scary...
Little Nightmares is hands down one of my favorite horror games of all time...
Doing horror better than most first person games...
You’re hiding in the shadows, sneaking around... under tables and beds praying you don’t get caught by the enemies walking around trying to eat you
This is horror done right.. trying to find your way through rooms while dealing with a threat…
trying to get to key items and back without being seen
the trial and error stealth gameplay is satisfying,
And the game mixes it up with just platforming or chase sequences, so the pacing is perfect..
    And gameplay feels varied...
No 2 enemy encounters feel the same
Though there are a few frustrating moments in the game where I felt I was getting by with luck...
specifically an annoying table scene that I had to keep climbing on top of and running through over and over because of the games sometimes pretty awful checkpoints…
and dying will be pretty frequent as this is sort of actually a 2.5 d platformer with layers…
This sometimes makes it hard to tell if you’re going to jump at an item you’re trying to grab onto and fall behind it or not…
But thankfully theme moments in my 4 hour journey were rare…
Little Nightmares is terrifying at times...
and the level design and character design is varied and memorable..
Horror Games and Platformer fans alike owe it to themselves to pick this one up.

In terms of cons, it feels at some points strongly influenced by INSIDE or LIMBO, which is hard to be ignored, but still, it's trying to create something original and for me, it's even more interesting than its rivals, leaving you at the end puzzled and hungry for more. The second thing is its controlles. I can't tell why it was wrong but in some parts, especially when someone's chasing you, controlling the main protagonist becomes really frustrating and unintuitive. Finally the game length. Three hours it's really not that much, especially that the game doesn't cost comparatively low to its length although I have to say, it does fell like a finished story not rushed at any point. Though it doesn't stop me from feeling that they could lengthen it up at least up to six hours. Having said that it's still, in my opinion, a great position that I can recommend to everyone and those who just like to risk playing something different. (I'm about to play it over again) Expand

one of the biggest draw backs are checkpoints ... if you want to make a cinematic experience you cant make the game frustrating to play ... how do you do that? well with stupid checkpoints that make you repeat the same level 3-5 times which sucks you out of the experience . talking about repeating the same level , well that happens also because of bad hitboxes not so much with enemies but more so with interactible objects. its so anoying when you are at the end of the level and you just fail it because you charachter just stud there and did nothing .
I also want to say something that i think it would make the game 10 times more immersive .
what im talking about is making the game in one take ... no loading screens but replace that with cutscenes like god of war 4 . this would make the game a instantly better and more cinematic . it also has some bugs but these arent so noticable .
the horror in game depends more on making you feel like prey and running away from the big bad boiz or hiding from them ..which is good is something fresh from all the jumpscares in other games , it makes your back shiver when they are an inch away from your back . story is actualy pretty good if you know whats going on but i wont spoil it ... its recommended to watch a ending explained after you finish !
None of the less the game has one of the best atmospheres in 2d indie genres of games . the sound design is wicked and the visuals are great !
after all that im giving this games a solid 7.5 . Its still a great game ! but one with flaws..

I do wish this one were longer though, it's a tightly paced 3 hour experience like most of it's peers, but I was left wanting to see even more of this world and it's disfigured characters, since what's here is already so well executed. The sequel is one of my most anticipated games right now, if not THE most.

The three DLCs are also pretty good and provide trickier puzzles than before, but the experience is not as strong as the main story. The only one in which you meet a new monster is 'The Depths', so that one was my favorite. The other two were fine but were a little disappointing for standalone purchases since aside from different environments to explore, there's not much presented that feels 'new'.

Intensely charming, nonverbal storytelling is prevalent throughout this title. With an art style that makes one feel like their alive inside a children's book, there's a lot of quality on offer here. Though the game is simple in control and concept, each of the mechanics introduced is used in clever ways which makes this game feel like a complete, if brief, experience.

There's a consistency of tone in this title that is grim and haunting without being overtly gruesome or relying on shocking imagery or startling, cheap scares to create a moody experience. There's some interesting themes that are explored in subtly ways which overall make this experience that you wont forget for years to come.

There's little replay value but at an indie level price for this smaller project, you could do worse than to have this experience.

    - Overall, a very unique take on the horror genre

    Mixed:
    - Puzzle solutions are often simple, but the tense atmospheres force players to be cautious and efficient to successfully get through a scene
    - Would have benefited from having a more simplistic control scheme. Buttons and button combinations to sneak, slide, run, throw, etc. are great and all, but it just kind of clutters up movement throughout the game. They do occasionally make the player use the mechanics in very interesting ways, so it’s kind of a mixed bag
    - The DLC episodes seemed promising and are definitely welcome additions over all, but they didn’t really add much to exploring the bizarre world. The gameplay mechanics also fell flat compared to what the main game had to offer

    Bad:
    - Technical problems throughout; clipping issues are especially bad and are the most prominent
    - Seems too short overall, even with the DLC tacked on
    - Perspective problems sometimes make it difficult to correctly position a jump or walk on a beam without falling off

Game sometimes gets surprising. And is full of references of how a child may see the world, as well as parent may see the child. Growing up stuff, etc.

Little nightmares is a great atmospheric game combined with horroric theme. It is more than just solving puzzles.
Generally speaking it is a very astonishing game; although, It has a vauge story line which makes one to interpret their own version of story. Having that said, playing the DLCs lights some clues about the story.

The story was a little lacking in that they could have done a bit more with it, but the endings of the main game and the third DLC were strong enough that I didn’t detract any points for that.

But I did subtract two points, and there were two reasons why: First, the controls were a bit floaty and hard to manage, and that was particularly noticeable when there was a big scary bad guy bearing down on me. I think if they had expanded the hitboxes of the movable items, it would have made for a better experience overall and given the illusion of tighter controls.

Second, the game is pretty short for the price they’re asking. My comfort zone is around $1/hour of gameplay, and when a game goes north of that, it’s going to be a negative for me. That was the case here.

All in all, a good experience.

Little Nightmares is a perfect 10 on 10. Rarely, do we get games that perfect everything and little nightmares is one such game where it's hard to come up with a negative aspect of the game. Little nightmares is almost perfect for the reasons mentioned below:

Game Design: The Level Design is close to perfect with great attention to detail. Most of the levels are spooky, tense and most of the objects in each room make sense w.r.t their position once you solve the puzzle to progress forward in the game.

Puzzles: Puzzles in this game just make sense and aren't stupid like other games where you need to just match a pattern to progress further. They aren't too long or too short. They are designed very cleverly utilizing the objects that exist in the environment in a very clever, subtle way etc. It's one of the moments where you figure out the puzzle, but once you figure it out. You are like, oh it was there infront of my eyes all this time.

Music/Story: This game has a okayish story and leaves a lot for the user to think about. This is more like an allegory rather than a straightforward story. Music is quite spooky but not too overwhelming. It's spooky enough to engage the gameplay but doesn't overpower the gameplay.

Bosses: This is where this game wins 10 on 10. This game has perfected the bosses, their design, the boss fights and the tension that's created during the boss fights. Without giving away any information, each boss is unique and one has to understand how to go about the bosses. The music during the boss interactions is on point.

Overall, there are very few games that perfect something this good and this game definitely deserves a 10 on 10.

PS: I didn't like the DLC a lot and it's pretty average. The DLC had too much unnecessary puzzle solving, very little boss interactions ,it was also too dark and the levels weren't interesting either. The DLC took away everything that the main game stood for. So, I'd recommend sticking to the main game and skip the DLC. If you like a lot of puzzle solving with non obvious solutions, then the DLC is for you.

The game has no mercy towards you, pushing its grim tale on you without smoothing the edges, and you will eventually be absolutely grateful to Little Nightmares for that, as the said tale is made on completely outstanding aesthetical level, with support of exceedingly beautiful visuals driving you back into the worlds of childhood fairytales, macabre yet vivid, unsettling environment perfectly transmitting despair which has spread within the game’s world, bright antagonists and the fearless protagonist, and an absolutely astonishing soundtrack, which alone is able to tell you much more than entire playthrough of many modern AAA-projects. The gameplay is also the never-disappointing side of the game. Successfully keeping the balance between dynamic pace and difficulty, Little Nightmares is a perfect puzzle-platformer. However, the game is not that perfect in general. Aiming for survival horror genre, Little Nightmares ultimately fails to deliver any fearsome vibes besides the atmosphere of the ambience, and the game’s identification as a horror title appears to rather serve for marketing purposes. The other aspect Little Nightmares fails to succeed in is to encourage the player to complete it again. The game offers very little side activity, progressing through which leads to nothing but respective achievements. That's definitely not enough, as the player never gets excited of something in the game more than of its astounding plot, and the environment is never immersive enough to make the player want to sneak into every additional room or air vent, while the universes of many games do. Nevertheless, despite all its evident disadvantages, Little Nightmares is definitely a title I'd like to recommend to all the lovers of puzzle-platformers and narrative-driven games. Expand
