The story not just show how they did met, but how they relation go (wich you can pretty much choose), what conflits they been through and why Chloe cares so much about Rachel in the original. The story also sets some things for the game, show a little more with David and some other characters that are important in the original.
The game posses one very important thing for this kind of game, wich is that you literally become Chole when you play it, it's perfect how when you started it, you completely forget the real life and get transfers for the game world. Everything contributes to this transference, the sounds the reality that they did implement, like you can interact with pretty much everyone that shows up in the game, and Chloe have a very natural comment for almos everything that are in the ambience, you can feel her pain, her doubts, her happiness and sadness with lute, wich not just put you in the universe game but make become her. The environment of the game, as i said, is perfect, there are some situations that just blowed my mind, you can play a rpg inside the game, roll the dice and choose what to do, and that tooks like 20 minutes and have nothing to do for main story, but was just insanely great. It did showed how Chloe never get over her father death, telling us about appreciate what we have.
The way that they did presented us the relationship between Chloe and Rachel was very good, it could sound a little forced for some people, but it was like that trigger relationship, that happen fast and apparentely for no big reason, the chemistry flows very fast and they meet eachother very fast and easy, justified by some events. They did gave a lot of time for them, you really get to know Rachel well, maybe not as much as it could, principally because in the original game it is revealed somethings about her that could have been explored in here, but i was good. They gave us the possibility to choose if they was just goingo to be big friends or if they had something more than just a friendship, i liked it.
The gameplay it's pretty much like the original one, but now we don't have the time mechanics, and kinda for replace this they added a discussion mechanic, that you need to see what the other character is talking and use that against him, and maybe then winning the discussion, it is pretty good.
We do revisited some places from Life is Strange, i liked the blackwell part that we did had in this game, it does work and make sense, showing how Chole get to know some important places from her some graphites and stuff.
The first 2 episodes are phenomenal, it have like 2 hours or even more, and you just don't see the time, it never like get you out of the game, always concentrated and foucused in what was happening, getting curious and envolved with the plot, but the 3rd one wasn't that good, it really got bored and they did choosed a story to go that i didn't find that much interesting, i was curious about different stuff. They could have explored more the relation about Rachel and Chloe more with Frank or Nathan. The 3rd one also got bored and it had some strange and maybe dumb decision that i didn't enjoyed and had nothing to do with anything, that role Elliot sequence for me was just for consume time, wasn't good and had nothing to do with anything.
Another problem of the game is that i felt in some moments that the choices that i had to do was like the telltales games choices, that wouldn't make any difference and are just there to remember us that it is a game, i hate it, in the 3rd episode it does happens like a bit to much, and i didn't enjoy it.
Even with the choice that they did go in the 3rd episode wasn't that good, i have to say that it did got plausible, once that it was already happening i bought the idea, it was good because you could pick sides, it was very understandable what some of the antagonists that made de plot run, wich was Rachel parents, were doing.
If you did enjoy the original one, i highly recomend this, the first 2 episodes are just great, with a low and and not very interesting ending.

This just isn't on par with the first game, and I think a big part of the reason why is that the games are very similar. The original felt fresh and new, whilst this game feels like more of the same. I thought I'd enjoy it but other elements get in the way.

Firstly, the story. We knew from the first game that Chloe had a tough few years, so we didn't really need it elaborating upon or demonstrated in this game. It makes it a bit repetitive to watch. Rachel is slightly different, but again the Laura Palmer-esque mystique added to the allure of the first game's narrative; instead of having things shoved down our throats it was good to have an unanswered question or two. Another reviewer has suggested that this game's story is designed as damage limitation for Amber, since she came off looking immoral in the first game. I find Chloe and Rachel rather unlikable.

They attempted something different with the gameplay by removing the time travel, and I liked it being removed as it made the original game tedious at points. However the replacement of dichotomous choices with supposed consequences doesn't quite fill the gap. Having mostly two choices in each scenario is limiting as I often wanted to take a different action than was possible, and consequences were not very diverse regardless of choices made.

Overall I'm struggling to play through this game simply because I find it inferior to the first. It seems to have degraded graphically also. The soundtrack is good but that alone does not make up for the shortfalls. Get this game on the cheap if you really want to play it, but I don't feel I'd have missed much had I not bothered to buy it at all. I was lured in by the limited edition box that came with a book and soundtrack that I'll probably never peruse anyway.

I really liked Life is strange but the prequel is very boring.
First of all your choices don't matter and the outcome is usually the same no matter what dialog option you choose.
The pace of the game is extremely slow and all you have to do is to press a button, listen to a dialog for 1-3 minutes and press the button again.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Life is Strange: Before the Storm is an idea that probably sounded better on paper, because while it’s nice to spend time with Chloe again, it doesn’t feel earned. There are some lovely scenes throughout the story, but a large proportion of the series feels like it's stalling for time. The main focus of the game - Chloe and Rachel's relationship - doesn't feel particularly realistic or believable compared to Chloe and Max's, and the muddled final episode seems to stray into different territory altogether. That's not to say there are no positives. There are enough welcome character moments to balance out the negative ones, and Before the Storm continues to apply a great soundtrack to the Life is Strange world. Ultimately this story may have been better had it been a one-off episode that focussed solely on Chloe and not delved into the world of crime and corruption. Expand

Well to say it is about two girls with daddy issues is kind of underselling this immensely. I had fun with the character Chloe Price who is quite a darling. Edgy sarcastic emo type character with a hidden heart of gold ( well that is how I played her ). I was really routing for her to find her place in life and the world.

This story and some of the characters do go to some dark places, beyond simple teenage angst and young love. Very much a coming of age drama. With a host of characters that had relatable and down to earth problems.

What started out like it was a fun comedy about a sassy young women molded into a more adult adventure with dire and serious consequences. It really plucked those heartstrings a lot about, love, loss, family and friendship.

When I first saw this game get announced, I was very excited. I absolutely adored the first season and I wanted to play this game right away.
Then, when I booted up the game and started playing episode 1, all my expectations dropped.

Firstly, Chloe is not a good character in this game. I know she had the reputation of being super edgy in the first game, but in this one, she is SO bland and uninteresting. There was so much potential for her in this game. We could have explored how her father's death affected her, the most of that we see is the "Car Dreams" and nothing of significance comes from that. We could have seen her slowly show signs of her becoming the character she was in LiS season 1, nope! She's kinda already there, but without any of the charm.

Next, is one of the bigger problems with this game; The story of Rachel and Chloe meeting and forming a bond goes FAR too quickly. Stop and ask yourself, have you ever met someone for the first time and said, "I trust this person with my life. I think I'll run away with them." This seems to be what both of these characters think and it is aggravating. I understand that they must know of each other, since they're in the same year at school, but we learn that the Firewalk concert was the FIRST time they actually hung out or were together. This becomes worse if you go the 'romantic' route with her, as not only do they trust each other fully in less than a day together, but they are both suddenly in love. This plot line needed more time in order to feel a bit realistic.

Now, the part where I talk about the romance. My main problem here is that you get a definite "Yes" or "No" to whether they love each other based on your playing. Chloe loving Rachel is something that was something that was more than hinted in LiS season 1, but there was never anything saying Rachel loved Chloe. Whether or not you think Chloe and Rachel were together in that sense, she was going out with Frank during the time Chloe knew Rachel, so Rachel's feelings for Chloe aren't exactly clear and from Chloe's reaction to this, she was clearly betrayed by it. The answer to the question about Chloe and Rachel being in a relationship is off to me. To me either they were A) In fact dating, or at least seeing each other; B) Not romantically involved; or C) Chloe had strong feelings about her, but never acted. Here, we can only really get options A and B. It just feels off that other possibilities wouldn't be possible here.

Ok, this is where I'm going to be my last list of negatives before getting into what I liked about this game. To start off, the environments don't have much life to them. Unlike Season 1, there are very few random NPCs walking around. It might be a small thing, but having them there shows that the world of the game is more than just a few isolated scenes and makes things seem alive. Next, the 2 Truths and a Lie game. This may just be nit-picking but I hated how no matter what you say, or what order you do it in, Rachel has the same dialogue and always knows which ones are true and which ones are lies. I played that scene so many times just trying to find the right combination to get some different dialogue. I guess I wasted my time. Lastly, the final scene. It was just SO stupid. She lights the picture on fire, puts it in the bin, then runs and kicks it into the tree! Then whenever she screams the wind blows and spreads the fire. Does Rachel has "Wind Powers"? I couldn't take the scene seriously at all, it was trying too hard to be meaningful.

Alright, time for the positives! To begin, the character outfits.
I love character customisation in games. Being able to change what you wear is something I just adore and the outfits you have to choose from, while all of them aren't amazing, helps add your own little touch to the game. But I do wish there were a few more points where you could change, maybe in Collector Mode or something.

The D&D-esque sidegame was AMAZING. I loved the writing in it and it was very enjoyable. Just the idea of having you play something like D&D with some new characters just felt right and added some much needed charm to this otherwise lacking overall game.

The music is still good, not quite on the same level as Season 1 but still good in its own right. Nothing feels out of place and the songs are quite decent

Overall, this game is very disappointing to me and has a LOT of missed potential. The game should not have been handed off to a new developer studio and definaltely not to a new writer. With something like a character's backstory, the person or people who came up with and went about bringing the character to life in the story, should be the people to tell that story.

I'm giving this a 5/10 as the game is just very dull and uninteresting, with a lot of scenes and characters that don't feel right. I'm hoping Season 2 of LiS is far better than this.

The story relies on the elements that made LiS its best self: emotional depth and relatable content. From the bullies and baddies who clearly have their own problems and redeeming qualities, to the realistic looks at differing reactions to pain, I was glad to see that LiS is back.

But to address the elephant in the room: The voice actors are fine, and in fact, I really enjoyed the game's use of them. Just like in the original LiS, what appears out-of-context to be choppy dialogue (c'mon, folks; LiS had cheesy dialogue and, in some cases, not-excellent voice acting) actually melds together into believable conversations and satisfying narrative beats. There are cringe-worthy moments, but that's to be expected... and to be honest, some of them felt like intentional homages to the first game's "charm" (quality issues).

But this is definitely not that case. New devs made their part and did it almost flawless. Why almost? That I will explain a bit later. So what do we have here? The new game about the most controversial and interesting character of the original Life is Strange - Chloe. You'd say we all actually know her story in general. But not in details. And by completing this game I can say, that details mean a lot! Seriously! I could never thought that there will be another game in LiS series, which could beat the original, especially taking into account the fact that it would be developed by a completely different team of gamemakers. And still here it is. What a touching, gentle and heartwarming story could create Deck Nine Games! I am just astonished. This was a great pleasure for me to be the witness and participant in the events, happened in this game.
This is one of a few games which I played and did not ask myself "why did this happened?" or "why did they (devs) turn this music right now?"... It is not awkward in any way. It feels natural. Gameplay is perfectly balanced.
For me it is the game with an appropriate pacing, a fully suitable soundtrack, colorful characters and unconventional visuals.
I thought that bonus episode was made just for fans of the series and do not contain any real story. But I was wrong. It perfectly complements the main story of both games and answers all the possible questions. Plus, Ashly Burch and Hannah Telle are back on the scene. They made this episode so much livelier amd entertaining!
And that is why I wrote earlier that this game is "almost" perfect. I think that Ashly is just a perfect performer for the role of Chloe. While Rhianna DeVries did a decent job, sometimes she sounded a bit too harsh and clunky. Ashly, on the other hand, has never crossed the line. She admirably plays with her voice and is a true genius in her own right.
What can I say more? I would like to mention great directing. Soundtrack is wonderful. New curious dialog "puzzle" system is a good choice. Characters' outfits are adorable. Devs improved facial animations and added new body animations, which is great, as this fact makes the game more refined and enjoyable.
A few words about technical side. The game offers two modes for the Pro model: "High resolution" (1440p/30fps) and "High performance" (1080p/60fps). I like the second one more, as the blur effect in "High resolution" mode is too heavy, although the image seems a little bit clearer and slightly more detailed.
All in all, this game is remarkable. Of course it has it's flaws. But they are mostly technical, so they do not make the story or the gameplay any less appealing.
But, after all, I personally play games for enjoyment. And this game brought a lot of fun to me.

The game completely ran out of ideas so most of the second and third episode was filled up with a lame subplot about Sera, Rachel's mother. Not going to spoil it, but the story felt like a bunch of cringe and bad ideas and stupidity mushed into a game. Very cheesy and corny, and not in a good way, like the original game.

The girl that’s missing at the beginning of life I strange
The 3 episodes last about 3 hours long and is much more dialog focused..
You play as chloe and she has no special powers
Ocasionnaly you get into a battle of words where you have to try and talk your way into or out of a situation…
you have to pay close attention to what your opponent says and say something back to go along with it in a smooth way…
Other than that, youre just choosing what you believe is the best response for chloes situation, you can be cold or warm, not much in between
As youre dealing with your new step dad david, and getting into trouble with Rachel amber…
There are a few special moments here, but not much…
Overall I feel there are no real choices of consequence here which is a bit of a let down..
Making this feel more like an interactive movie than an actual adventure game.
The first episode I found it hard to care what was going on at all.. despite me crying for chloe in life is strange.. I just didn’t care about her or her relationship with amber at first, the only saving grace being a dungeons and dragons game thrown in there…
But episode 2 completely changed my opinion of the game and the relationship of these 2 girls…
Easily my favorite episode where theres a little more adventure type sections of looking for items you need but more importantly theres more bonding, there are more characters, drama, theres a play that for me topped even the dungeons and dragons game…
The relationship felt alive and real, and then episode 3 comes along and It just disappoints in comparrison….
It goes by at a snails pace, though there are touching moments with chloes father that really saves it from feeling like an ultimate let down…
The story telling saves this game, and its middle episode makes the 7 hour journey worth it.
The delivery of this game is just very inconsistent… filled with great moments as well as moments youll be begging to just be over
But I cried and I cared,
And as a game that sets out to tell a story I guess that’s all that really matters
I give life is strange before the storm

What a pathetic money-grubbing attempt. The story is horrible, and unlike the REAL Life is Strange, there is no ACTUAL choice involved in the prequel. No matter what you do, the result, is the same. Not even any grey areas to play with. What a shame. The original one deserves a whooping 8/10, while the only reason I am rating this 1, and NOT 0, is because of the tremendous effort by theWhat a pathetic money-grubbing attempt. Everything else just plain sucks....even the music; which, I never expected to be able to say about a "Life is Strange" sequel cum prequel. Expand

Although not nearly as interesting, as long or as creative as the first game, Before the Storm as a whole still manages to be a very great piece of interactive storytelling. The relationship between the two main characters are some of the best I've ever witnessed in a video game, and it makes up for this prequel's few shortcomings.

Due to the fact that this is a prequel, the storyline and characters of Life is Strange: Before the Storm feel a bit contrived. Nevertheless, despite these inconsistencies, fans of the original Life is Strange will still be moved by Chloe’s adventure.

It's rare that a prequel truly works, where a story can captivate despite the audience knowing what's coming and where the path will lead. Life Is Strange: Before The Storm is one of those exceptional stories because it draws you in on its own terms. The only problem: You know it's building you up just to break your heart.

Is this game as good as the original Life is Strange? Personally, I don't think so. But it's still great nonetheless and definitely shouldn't be missed by fans of the first game.
