Versatile and fluid combat. Decent exploration and challenges around. This was a decent opening title for the PS4 but not really a hit. Might be a good game for kids.
    City is small and empty.
It's more like a flashy game with colourful abilities than a brutal game that it used to be.

The game is good. The most pleasant point is the effects and light story that you will enjoy without hard thinking. Everything else is good and delivers nothing more than expected from the average well developed game.

He simply puts me off the entire game like the DMC reboot punk, why can't they realise what a franchise or series means? it needs to be continued no matter what as it lives or dies with the Protagonist! period!

go play uncharted 4 with a "brand new drake" and see how well does it go...no Drake has to live as long as the series goes, he is UNCHARTED as COLE is freaking INFAMOUS!!! Cole even features in UMVC n Playstation All Stars! Play a mario game without mario? wake up idiots!

After all the neon fades, everything just fall flat out boring, its a pain to complete this game, no identity, nothing, its a poorly tech demo.

This would be forgivable if these sacrifices in story made the gameplay better, but no, most of the time these illogical jumps in no way improve or actually make the game worse. For example, some reason the main character gains a power in the middle of no where that requires cars in order to jump high into the air.... ? WTF. How does this improve the story or gameplay? There's plenty to be said about the gameplay, but that's not what did this game in for me.

My problem is the God awful story. Now the last two weren't "the last if us" good, but they had style, character motivation, consistent game logic, and cool villains. Not so in this one. Every character feels like they were put there because the formula of a story needed them there. Nobody

Not so in this one. Every character feels like they were put there because the formula of a story needed them there. Nobody feels real. Plot twists occur when they need to for the story but nothing seems to have any justification. And there aren't any rules to how the powers work. The game just uses cores from the old games without explanation and you're restricted from using powers at random when it serves the story. It has the depth of fan fiction.

Such a shame too, because the powers were way cool.

Great graphics and gameplay, however the story is all skin and bone with no meat what so ever. The karma system has also been reduced to bare minimum and only exists for 3 karma missions to unlock karma aligned abilities.

This game is more like a reboot rather than a sequel given the change in tone which I can only imagine is to appeal to a wider audience.

Infamous Second Son is a real pleasure to look at. I mean it is just beautiful. This and Killzone Shadow Fall are the best two looking games on PS4. Killzone Shadow Fall is still the king of graphics though and it's miles more fluid.

TECHNICAL PROBLEMS: I do notice a LOT of judder, being that the game isn't capped at 30 FPS, instead it goes from 30-45 from time to time causing a TERRIBLE stutter when running really fast and also moving the camera around really fast. It also has horrid looking texture pop-in, that also causes a stutter in the game. Personally I think it makes the game UNPLAYABLE. But I'm a PC gamer. But for those of you who don't mind gamebreaking stuttering and are used to playing crap console ports and don't mind(I know a lot of you won't see this cause you don't care about this), I'll continue my review like this doesn't exist.

The gameplay is fun. I think it's so much fun to run around with all these super powered and blast people apart, or save them. And the difficulty on "Normal" is JUST right I think. I heard at the last minute they increased it just a bit. So you don't feel too over powered in the game. But you do have to retreat to gain health every now and then and you will find yourself dying if you aren't really trying your best to retreat and regain health.

The game is also long enough to keep you engaged for quite a while. I've been playing since Tuesday and it's Thursday today and I am just a little past getting the second power out of the 4 powers you get. I've played about 4 hours per day for 2 days, so I'm 8 hours in and less than half way through. They say the game takes 10-15 hours to complete the story mode. But personally I can see this game taking me about 15 hours for full completion. And then I'll probably still roam around more or complete the "Evil" version of the game.

Now with such a great job they did creating the city, and Delsin, and his powers, I figured they'd have A LOT more to do in this game, but besides the story, and unlocking the city from DUP, there isn't hardly anything to do that's the least bit fun. It's not remotely close to GTAV as for things to do, you can tell this game only took 2 years to make and not 3-4. Hopefully Watch Dogs has a LOT more to do.

    Graphics 10/10
    Gameplay 7/10
    Storytelling 7/10
    Game Longevity 7/10
    Game Smoothness/Play ability 0/10

OVERALL: Infamous Second Son SHOULD be a solid 8/10 game, but because of technical issues that have NOTHING to do with my PS4 or the disc(I know because I returned my PS4 and the disk and it still happens), the game is pretty much unplayable, even Sucker Punch admits this problem but says it has to do with the engine and they can't fix it.

What's left is a nice looking, competent action game that offers nothing more than 12 hours of "shooting a bunch of bad guys". A major disappointment in nearly every regard, it's confounding that Sucker Punch would dismantle the franchise in such an epic way. It's not "more of the same" inFamous, it's far, far, less of something vaguely similar. If you were a fan of the first 2 games, there is very little here to enjoy. I would wager that you're actually going to be heartbroken, much like I was.

The original InFamous still remains one of my favorite games in the genre. The free-running traversal of a beautifully crafted environment and emphasis on collection made exploring the environments a joy and worthwhile. It could (and should) be argued that the franchise was so much fun not just because of the "super powers" but because exploring the open world was a compelling experience. What Second Son offers is a graphically beautiful rendition of Seattle with absolutely no reason to explore it.

You won't be climbing up and jumping around buildings in fantastic displays of athleticism looking for treasures and leaping around town. This just isn't that game, that mechanic has been more or less completely omitted. You won't be facing a multitude of exciting and different enemies, there are only two types: Soldiers and drug dealers. Missions are repetitive, laborious and require a great deal of time running away from enemies to recharge instead of facing them head-on. Unlike the first two titles, finding recharge stations is much more difficult and frustrating.

What's left is a very average action game that offers no appeal other than the scenery which you'll have no reason to explore. Your enjoyment of the game will come down to what you liked about the original titles. If you weren't fond of the locomotion and collection aspects and simply had fun mindlessly shooting enemies with something other then bullets, you may well enjoy Second Son. If you valued the core gameplay mechanics of the first two titles and accompanying artistic direction, prepare for an unrivaled let down in every regard and another 4 year wait in hopes that Sucker Punch can restore some of what made the original such a joy.

I want to rate the game a 0 as I have no reason to spend time playing it and am, frankly, so very, very sad. However, I want to remain objective and rate the game accordingly. It's technically proficient, the voice acting is very good and the controls are solid. Average in every regard and a major let down for fans of the series.

First thing i noticed routing the audio through my headset was the break up and cracking in sound, quite annoying and definitely noticeable when your roaming and not hung up in action. Also the mechanics seem off. When using your powers to traverse around your environment there is no fluidity when sprawling up walls and over obstacles. it feels very stuttey, not at all seamingless which i would come to expect. Not at all like last gen games such as Arkum City or Tomb Raider to name a few, were the transitions of your character from objects and environment seemed solid and smooth.
Then there is the in game combat, when you attack your enemy it seems and sounds like your hitting them with pillows. Its very diluted combat and one that gets boring fast.
For £50 i expected something more solid, granted the visuals are immense but the gameplay is average and the reason i am so dissapointed is because i had high hopes for this game

If they make a sequel to this game I sure hope they add a single Muti-player element, if they would of added one in this game I would of gave the game an 8 or 9. The good parts:
    - graphics are attractive in terms of appealing colors and details.
    - arcade feel meaning simple to pick up and play
    - the price. It's a bit cheaper than other main titles.

    The disappointing:
    - AI and opponents. Boss battles lacked inspiration and the as you progressed, the opponents merely spammed more shots on you. They equally required merely more hits to defeat. It gets disinteresting.
    - Combat. My gosh, this was the weakest link. Lacked fluidity in linking attacks, didn't require skill, and movement is clumsy!
    - missions were truthfully boring. With the exception of the last power, the entire game had repetitive missions that were a chore to complete. I struggled to get engaged or moved by progression or completing missions which were too formatted like previous ones.
    - side activities lacked purpose. These are for building karma or getting things to upgrade your powers, yet contributed so insignificantly towards it.
    - the "world" won't engage you. Okay I wasn't expecting gta or assassins creed environments. But come on the whole mood and interactivity of the city was so dull! It looked good graphically but it just wasn't interesting to roam, explore, or build a liking towards. Pity.
    - the audio. Voice acting was below average, cheesy, and the sound effects were repetitive
    - the "new" control features. These are executed in a corny way. Ie cellphone rings coming from control or swipe to open cages, or shake control for spray can.
    - story is weak. Many plot holes, generic story, and short of ideas.
    - lack of character. There's nothing enjoyable or likeable about your main character, nor the ones you meet. Hard to find interest here or buy into dialogue.
    - framerate not as smooth as advertised, and graphics have been overrated by media.

Well honestly I could have given this game a 3 or 4 but I respect the amount of work that went into making this game. I am sympathetic as the game was a good idea in theory and at least had bits of final quality. It's unfortunately overhyped and even if it wasn't hyped, it's average and forgettable for one key reason: it has many aspects (story, open world, combat, karma, skill upgrades, etc) but never does any of those aspects well. It ticks many boxes but just gets a C for each. Disappointed people are praising this.

That might be fine if this were a true open world game, but it's really a linear story and just doesn't hold up well in the final stretch. I apologize if this is a spoiler, but the game ends with a boss battle and by the time I finished it (after numerous attempts), I was basically so frustrated that I hated the game. Seattle is not a great candidate for an Open world to be designed around , and to many gamers outside the United States it seems like we're left out of the loop when we are supposed to know what monuments such as the Space Needle is and we should be treating it like a huge deal that we're climbing the Space Needle.
I didn't have many problems with infamous : Second Son's story , I thought it wasn't great but wasn't too bad either , i think the voice acting for Delsin , Reggie and Fetch were good. I don't understand the character designs of some of this universe though , they seem to me to be incredibly boring or trying too hard to be dark or edgy (Fetch's backstory).

I think Sucker Punch should be applauded for thinking out of the box in terms of powers that Delsin uses as I haven't seen any of these in other games before or open worlds that i can think of

There is little difference between the difficulties offered and you might aswell play on Expert difficulty the first way through and what little replayability that is left for a second playthrough is down to morality choices.

I thought the sidesquests were largely uninteresting and boring , the graffiti sidequest seemed like it was put in to have some sort of touchpad control inserted into the game.

It's a short game but it does at least give a few boss fights but you rarely feel under threat of being killed.

Conclusion : Infamous Second Son is an okay game , I think the setting is uninteresting along with some of the cast but it has a decent story and good voice acting tieing together mediocre gameplay and decent audio

It definitely isn’t one of those games you talk about years after its release, but it showcases PS4’s capabilities well and in contrast to Killzone: Shadow Fall also does something else – guarantees fun from the beginning till the end. [CD-Action 05/2014, p.58]

Fun romp, beautifully rendered and executed. Fantastic superpowers make up for the lack of depth. [Issue#241]
