    A dated but abite romp back to where it all started. Originally played through this game on PS2, well after playing through Vice City and San Andreas. The HDing is obvious, although clearly not a remake or a remaster. Its just been tidied up and polished a bit.
    The controls are, well, 2001 controls, its very, very clunky and the targeting system (or lack thereof) is abhorrent; you're    A dated but abite romp back to where it all started.     The physics are horrendous and the lack of any checkpoint system can get pretty frustrating. The abundance of timed missions is pretty unoriginal too.
    GTA 3 is the quintessential "Errand Boy" game, the narrative drives things along, however everything is a go here do this request mission, however everything works well enough.
    I guess to sum it up and to be honest, this game is old, very old and the tech is just as ancient but you have to take it for what it is, the most ground breaking game of the 00s, possibly of all time    … Expand

    I mean yes, it's a classic, but couldn'tyou at least have put in updated controls. It's really hard to play and not really enjoyable anymore.

    It's the classic game but with the same **** controls. You'd think they'd at least put a "Setup 4" option in controls where all controls are modernised.

    It honestly feels like there was 0 effort put into porting this to the PS4.

    Not to be rude or anything, I don't like GTA III. The reason is that first of all, it is PS2 graphics on PS4. Second, shooting is terrible. GTA III wasn't a good option for PS4.

    I'm going to get the bad out of the way. The upscaling and PS2 graphics make this a little difficult to getting used to playing it on a bigger TV. With that said, the trophy support and fresh coat of paint, does make the game look cleaner.

    Now for the actual about the gameplay; GTA III is a MUST PLAY for all fans of the series. Folks that got into GTA AFTER the Playstation 2 era,    I'm going to get the bad out of the way. The upscaling and PS2 graphics make this a little difficult to getting used to playing it on a bigger TV. With that said, the trophy support and fresh coat of paint, does make the game look cleaner.

    Now for the actual about the gameplay; GTA III is a MUST PLAY for all fans of the series. Folks that got into GTA AFTER the Playstation 2 era, have got to start their visit with GTA III first.

    In terms of difficulty GTA III always seemed harder than the 4 or 5, in some aspects you have to trick the AI during certain missions. (Fortunately, R* figured that out and improved) But in some ways, I kind of miss that sharp incline in difficulty, as it made you want to improve on your next try.

    Quite honestly, it was refreshing to go back into GTA III and play it; it was fun and there were a lot of things I'd forgotten about the game that was good to get back into!!

    As for the story, newcomers may be turned off by the main character's silent protagonist/anti-hero/maniac personality. It's well written, but silent protagonist are a love hate thing; fortunately Claude is a well executed character that will grow on you, even if he's...quiet.

    Just note, the controls are a bit different for the game and THERE IS NO MAP!! (The PS2 version gave you a physical map when you bought it.) Thank God for the internet, as now you can find one in a second. That and there is a minimap. Shooting does take a little getting used to. Once you get the hang of it, you're good, though.

    OVERALL: GTA III reintroduces itself in same way we remember it, but with a fresh coat of paint. It still is the classic GTA experience outside of the original top-down titles.    … Expand

    Although this game may have been an ambitious classic when it released, playing this game now is just unfun and frustrating. Though you would expect a gta game to deliver in areas like driving and shooting, they are both incredibly horrible. Every car drives as though it is on a frozen lake. This makes driving dreadful and that is what you do for the majority of the game. This is exacerbated by the fact that cars are extremely weak when it comes to their durability and when they are flipped over, they explode after just a few seconds. I've had to redo many missions because of this. Shooting is not much better. You need to be very close to enemies to even target them. This results in you having to take damage in nearly every altercation. There is the sniper rifle, which is nice because you don't need to be close to enemies, but controlling that is not the most comfortable because it only goes in four directions. Additionally, after every mission you get money, but unless a mission prompts you to buy ammo and guns at a weapon shop, I have no idea where to go to spend the money. I don't want to look it up because I should not have to. I should have an icon on my map indicating where to spend my money. Because there is no indication, this makes the reward I get from missions (money) almost meaningless. I got through only about 30 missions before I decided that enough was enough, and I would no longer waste my time playing the game because I was not having fun. I will say that it does lay a great framework for the future 3D gta games, but there is no reason to go back to this one when the others improve upon it in every way possible.… Expand

    Amazing experience, but you have to remember that this game is from 2001 !!
    I enjoyed the crap out of it on my PS4. Controls are outdated, but you can get used to it.
    Such a bummer that Rockstars are wankers that removed original Trilogy from all stores, including PS Store, and now you have to purchase "rEmAsTeReD" (massacred) version of this trilogy to be able to play the original versions.

    Newcomers to Grand Theft Auto III would giggle at the primitive graphics, spoiled by the advancements of the past 15 years. For seasoned gamers however, Grand Theft Auto III was the absolute tits back in the day and I really enjoyed playing it again. Sure, I paid out my butt for it but that was my choice, no one forced me to do it. Now, if you don’t mind, I’ve got a platinum trophy to nail.
