I remember watching an animated version of Gulliver’s Travels and reading stories as a child centered around the works of Jonathan Swift. I remember watching an animated version of Gulliver’s Travels and reading stories as a child centered around the works of Jonathan Swift. In college we revisited the novel and looked at how it was actually a biting political satire and commentary set in a fantasy world when conventional criticisms were not allowed.

Over the years various shows, games, and Pop Culture have involved giants in the land of smaller sized individuals which are often aimed at a family market.

In the new PSVR game Good Goliath; players take on the role of a giant who had been imprisoned by a group of diminutive villagers who now must face the Giant after he has broken free. Players take on the role of the giant and must use their virtual hands to catch and deflect Pitchforks thrown to them by the angry mobs. Players can then throw the Pitchforks at the attackers in an effort to impale them and end the assault; or use them to deflect incoming fire.

As the game moves on; players will face enemies with barrels and explosives which require new tactics but also provide spectacular and enjoyable explosions and the ability to blast the village to rubble or take out enemies.

The game requires a certain number enemy types to be dispatched before players can move to the next level. As the game unfolds players will find they are getting a fairly good workout from the game as there can be a solid amount of upper body movement involved with the process of catching, blocking, and throwing.

The game features decent graphics and sound but does have an easy to use control system and is charming in the way it expands upon a simple setup to create a very enjoyable experience for the PSVR.

Good Goliath is a well-made arcade game that I just didn't enjoy all that much. The central mechanic of little dudes throwing things at you and you catch them and throw them back somehow made me feel angry and annoyed. Stellar artwork and design would not overcome some mechanical issues and, in the end, I was left feeling grumpy.

In the virtual world, being bad often feels good so if you want to stick it to a bunch of medieval villagers then you'll love Good Goliath.

Good Goliath is short and fun but maybe a bit of a one trick pony. I did enjoy the combo system and the slight puzzle style to the oncoming enemy waves. Its graphics, environments and immersion are all top notch and as long as you do not mind just throwing stuff for a few hours and a few small issues, do not hesitate to give it a try, I enjoyed my short time with it.
