I would say this game is a solid 7/10, mostly because they created a fun game loop with a creative concept that may have been a bit too complex for them to fully realize, while this game has many great points (detailed ship building, fun research system, great art design, and high replayability) it also has a few short areas that dampen the experience. Most of the negatives are around some bland combat, lack luster ai, and occasional repetitiveness. There are also some balancing issues involving invasion fleets, if you EVER get boarded by one of the roaming enemy ships, you're done, restart the playthrough. If boarded your ship will be flooded by endless waves of enemies that will kill all your crew members and eventually you. I've done a large number of playthroughs of this game and besides one that ended due to bugs infesting my ship and chewing apart the hallways, all have ended due to encountering a boarding party, These ship boardings are so overwhelming to the point where i wonder if its a glitch.

Just to restate the positives... This game really is a gem, i mean so much crazy sh*t happens, that bug death I brought up was due to my tractor beam pulling in cargo that was infested with bugs, I thought my crew killed them all but it turned out one had escaped into the vents and made it to the ships left wing where it began laying eggs everywhere.

Cut to five minutes later and I'm crawling in the maintenance tunnel desperately trying to destroy eggs and keep them from separating the entire wing from the ship and destroying our biotanks, denying the ship a steady flow of clones, but as I desperatly tried to clear the eggs, the spiders had metastasized through the entire ship and destroyed everything. And that was just one play through.

This game has some awesome moments, but a few things hold it back too much for me to recommend at full price. I would wait a while for it to be cleaned up a bit and maybe on sale for like ten bucks off

This game is a slog. So boring. It basically expects you to manage multiple systems within the game with no direction. It is much worse than No Man's Sky was at launch. Here is your ship, here are the planets, here are some generic aliens, have fun everyone! The game is not fun....AT ALL. It gets a 2 from me because it runs at 60 FPS. I traded it in after 3 hours. Save your money.

I found Genesis alpha one extremely addictive, it took me several attempts to beat it, but it was well worth it and you can continue to play even after you found your genesis planet. If your a fan of FTL then you'll love Genesis, it doesn't have the ship combat, but it has so much more with building your own ship, defending it and planet resource gathering all in glorious 1st person andI found Genesis alpha one extremely addictive, it took me several attempts to beat it, but it was well worth it and you can continue to play even after you found your genesis planet. Coming off the fun, but technically poor Everspace full edition I was so up for trying out another Rogue type game. This game looks, sounds and plays like crap with a totally amateurish dated feel to it all.

Oh wow the loop on this game is so not fun. Planetary missions are tiny zones. It gets real old real fast waiting for a timer countdown to get tech and/or mine a few rocks. Crawling

Oh wow the loop on this game is so not fun. Planetary missions are tiny zones. It gets real old real fast waiting for a timer countdown to get tech and/or mine a few rocks. Crawling through constantly expanding ship ducts and hunting down Xenos or fighting armed borders gets real old real fast.

The most cool part was the ship expansion and the ability to walk about on the newly created areas, but again that gets real old real fast. The idea upgrading clone crew is neat, but ethically questionable. Assigning clone crew to stations I thought oh they are doing that FTL type of thing.

Summing up overambitious concepts which obviously was not backed up by budget or talent need to make this a decent game. Glad I bought a physical disc off my local retailer that has a two day return policy for any reason ( refunded ).

Disappointment. Seriously guys. You hyped it up and thought you'd get away with it!
You can't write phrases like "Rogue like on an Epic Scale", "huge *cough* randomised galaxy", "deal with terrifying *cough* alien infestations" (btw *coughs* are added by me). NO, it's not on an Epic Scale. Epic is something that is important, lasting and complex. This is not. NO it is not a HUGE galaxy

NO, it's not on an Epic Scale. Epic is something that is important, lasting and complex. This is not. NO it is not a HUGE galaxy (see above) and NO the alien encounters are not terrifying if you have played alien shooters before (e.g. Prey, Alien. THAT was scary.) Graphics are basic. Reminded me on Halflife 20 years back and the game play is awfully repetitive.
Please give it a go with some extra content, put some more details into the tutorial (explain the symbols, how to influence the air with plants, why are mushrooms growing on my ship?!!?, etc.). You have some time now for the Steam Store Release. Get going! I will have a look again then - maybe...

Very addictive indie game, reminds me a lot of the aliens movies and has great replay value, takes a while to understand everything but is worth it in the end

This is what happens when you release a game these days with no money to pay the mainstream review sites for ad space.

There are also a few bugs, especially with the AI, and some cool features/improvements that would make it even greater seem to be missing (like a tool/droid to scan vents automatically for alien eggs so you don't have to manually do it every 30 minutes like a red-shirt scrub), but hopefully most of these will be fixed/added in the future patches.

I absolutely adore this game! No idea why people hat it so much. If you like nerdy space sims and care for immersion over graphics, then this game is for you!

Could be they patched it over the year after it's release, don't know, I'm literally late to the game but I have not enjoyed anything as much as this in a long time.

I have it on Xbox on the game so far that's said I don't know if it's just me but all the videos in the game and even some of the npc's talking they're very low I can barely hear any of them I hope somehow they increase the volume of that at least and how to get the other touch style robots play the game yet I doubt I'm even halfway there but I would like more power to the power grid ORSI have it on Xbox on the game so far that's said I don't know if it's just me but all the videos in the game and even some of the npc's talking they're very low I can barely hear any of them I hope somehow they increase the volume of that at least and how to get the other touch style robots play the game yet I doubt I'm even halfway there but I would like more power to the power grid ORS ability to make more reactors than just seven or eight Expand

I love the concept of this game, I love the music the style it's all around a great game, two things I would like to see more than anything though, first is the planet maps being made bigger, and there being a multi-player so you can play with friends. It would be nice if you could have a total of 5 players since you start with 5 crew members anyways

From a stylistic point of view, the game got its hooks deep in me because I felt it drew visual and aural inspiration from the likes of 1980s sci-fi film legends Douglas Trumbull, John Carpenter, and Ridley Scott. Genesis: Alpha One offers a tense and methodical approach to roguelike survival through base building and resource gathering in one of the most harshest environments imaginable.

Monotone missions and uninventive enemies, combined with bad AI, makes this game more of a chore than enjoyment.

An unusual game because it successfully blends together different genres. Managing your ship combined with first person shooter gameplay topped off by a randomly generated environment which can be utterly unforgiving makes for a highly original experience. The audiovisual style stands out and replayability is obviously very good. The tutorial could have been somewhat better because you'll be struggling to understand the game's mechanics when you first start out. A unique and captivating title that successfully blends different genres.
