I am surprised that I am having problems with Firewall Zero Hour. In fact, I contacted the FTC twice because Firewall Zero Hour may be a Call of Duty competitor. Remember the sled in one of America's favorite movies Citizen Kane. In this case there is a white light gun. According to Video Game History, the gun accessory gets a lot of support from the gaming community. Could the FTC case be someone' elses anger at being denied the use of an $80 Playstation gun accessory? There is a $69 billion dollar deal in which the Department of Justice is arguing that Microsoft would be in violation of the FTC AntiTrust Laws.

Well, I had a $300 used Playstation IV and it blocked my use of the TV via two HDMI ports and then also denied me use of the Playstation VR headset. I just got a new $300 Playstation 4 and it just pulled a couple of tricks. First to make the image to big so that there would be eye strain. Of course you should be able to recalibrate the image by going to the VR section in the system file. Now it's claiming that "The add-on for the following applications is corrupted."

How many people can still see the white sled in the fire? That Playstation iV gun accessory will be the main image in the minds of the judges before they decide to block the $69 billion Activision deal with Microsoft. Now let me contact the FTC for the third time.

The best tactical multiplayer shooter for VR today. It has the quality of counter strike, so this could also be a candidate for E-Sport tournaments. There is a lack of campaign and also playing as solo is boring, so this game really shines on multiplayer. The aim controller is really well done implemented and a must-have for this game.

The gameplay is so cool, and with the aim controller it is incredibly satisfying and tactical. So it's a real shame this game has more connection issues than any game i have ever played. I am not exaggerating when I say you will spend the vast majority of your time waiting to start a game. It uses peer to peer connection, so you can guess how well that works, and there is no host migration, which means every couple of matches you will be kicked out to the main menu and have to wait for ages all over again. This is not helped by the long wait times to start, the 5 minute ready up timer, and then the long wai times for it to load the map. I really enjoyed this game but had to give up playing it as it was so frustrating to be kicked out every match, often midway through if the host left. This isnt helped by the fact the dev team are active enough to release endless nw micro transactions, but not active enough to fix all the sever issues and bugs. How interesting. I would say wait until the game is fixed and it will be great, but it has now been 2 years and nothing has changed. The gameplay is so good, the best on psvr, if you have played pavlov its basically a much simpler version, but my good is it frustrating, and the dev team do not care. They are still releasing battle passes, but not fixing the fundamental flaws.

    - There is only one game mode. ONLY ONE. The game mode is a 4v4 hack or defend the laptop with no re-spawns. It reminds me a lot of rainbow six siege which is another great game. However it slows down the game so much and considering it takes about 4-5 minutes to start a game it can be over in 2-3 minutes then you have wait again which can be annoying.

If this game had a simple team death match tacked on, 10 minutes with respawns, I could see myself giving this game an 8/10 instead of a 7. Due to this fact I cannot give it any higher because I believe it was such a poor decision to only include one game type and quite frankly it isn't even the most popular online shooter game mode.

The graphics can also be quite hazey too.

Maybe deserves a 10 if the developers can fix the lobbies to allow for teams of friends to play together, and add more game modes. I do hope that over time, the game will allow for teams to be paired fairly based on rank (relative skill level). As someone who does not play regularly, the first few sessions were fun because everyone was new to the game. I would be concerned if the upgrades in weapons completely favors those that grind up, rather than those players with refined skills.

Simple flanking manoeuvers, blind firing and communication can lead some quite complex interactions that feel logically sound, based on commonly understood military tactics. This is the first time that i feel that clearing a room with a teammate needs carefully coordinated covering of all the angles. It's just perfectly executed. When the game mechanics and level design are so well implemented, it becomes a magical sandbox for everyone to live out their Special Forces fantasy.

I truly believe this is THE killer app for PSVR.

Edited: Upgaded from a 9 to a 10, after the recent 1.03 patch which streamlined the matchmaking to allow squads to play together vs other squads. Matchmaking is fast now and increases playtime over wait time.

Playing video games since the early 1970's, and this is without question one of the most engaging and fun games I have ever played, on any system. I would go so far as to suggest that if you are a fan of FPS, particularly those that encourage teamwork, this is worth a PSVR+AIM purchase - maybe even a PS4 Pro. Yes, it is that good. And I am not particularly a fan of this genre!

Having said that, there are some issues (matchmaking is spotty, glitches in the item purchase menus) but focusing on these is really a non-issue at this point, as the overall experience itself is simply sublime.

    UPDATE:
So after a couple of weeks, I am lowering my score. The "sublime experience" I reported has become more a nightmarish one. Constant host disconnections before, during, and after matches have really soured the experience. This in addition to the game crashing (blue screening) and having random menu glitches. For a given hour of time spent trying to play the game, I have been lucky to get 5-10 minutes of actual gameplay, no exaggeration. The netcode supporting the online experience, vital for an online only game, is completely unfit for purpose. Here is a template for the kind of experiences you may have based on my own excessive play over a couple of weeks (I am ranked in top 200 worldwide, if that means anything to you):

    1. The use of Peer-to-Peer networking means that should the current game host decide to quit, for any reason, everyone is booted to the game menu screen. This also usually, but not always, screws up your ability to smoothly reconnect to a new host. You might join a game with 7 of 8 players, and the game disconnects before the final player has been selected, and then try 2-3 times to reconnect. That might be a good 15 minutes of staring at loading/blank screens (in VR no less). Sound exciting?

    2. When you finally get matched and a game actually starts, the voice chat is probably now glitched due to the aforementioned connection/disconnection issues, which means there is no team communication. Not good for a game than absolutely requires effective communication in order for your team to have a good chance at victory.

    3. The game then might end with your team winning (a fast game is over in less than 1 minute BTW), but before the victory/point scoring screen is reached, one or more players on the other side have rage quit and everyone is booted - no soup for you (or anyone else).

    4. Goto 1.

If you are lucky and have a stable host, you might get several hours of thrilling fun. But when you rejoin later you might then get a host who is AFK for days at a time, who cannot be kicked or booted, and you keep getting matched to join their game. Over and over. Thrills-a-plenty.

As an aside, another incredibly annoying thing about the game is the broken item/gear/character edit system. Some glitchy, buggy code there for sure. For example, in the first couple of days playing I was able to inadvertently select locked items due to overflow bugs, and this does not bode well for developers wanting to introduce paid DLC at some point. Not confidence inspiring in the least.

So, lesson for me - never give a review of a game, no matter how fantastic it seems, until perhaps a week or two later. Particularly an on-line only game. I wonder if many other reviewers/users feel the same now. To be fair, the game WHEN IT WORKS is absolutely thrilling. But, really let down by the bad design and poor code implementation. More worrying is that the developers have apparently given a cursory response to an overblown game balance issue many players were complaining about, but have said nothing about the more serious issues (i.e., the matchmaking, hosting, connectivity problems). I would still recommend the game, but be warned - there is considerable frustration to be had, made worse by the fact that the game (when it works) is fantastic.

    UPDATE 2:
So, following a small patch (that fixed the exploits to various contractor skills and weapon skins, and rectified some of the matchmaking issues) I am upgrading my rating. There are still issues, but the overall experience is great. No way is this a 10 beyond the initial thrill, but it certainly is one of the most compelling PSVR games. A definite must buy.

The progression system has alot of variety, it is a little grindy but definitely rewarding. Tracking is decent when correctly setup. Community is very mature and friendly (I'm assuming the additional VR price tag has removed the kids).

    The Bad:
Long wait times between rounds. Can occasionally be waiting longer than expected for players to join but doesn't happen that often, maybe 1/10 games you'll wait 5 minutes for someone else to join. I have been disconnected mid match about 5 times in 10 hours of play so this needs to be addressed. A few other glitches like XP disappeared and coming back aswell as credits doing the same, all easily fixed in an update.

A great title and one that will help sell the VR to reach more players, well done First Contact.

    Pros
    * It feels like a full game with plenty of room for expansion, its that good old grind to earn experience buy/upgrade your weapons, matches are short so even in failure you still feel like you are having a good time.

*The weapons look and feel great even giving PSVR's short comings in tech, the modelling for the maps, specialists and weapons are really good. Gun sounds are also spot on.

*It really pulls you in, you feel like you are part of a team and when everyone is on mic you start to feel a bit of kin ship.

    * communication and strategy is rewarded, even when you are dead and on camera duty you still feel like you have a part to play. I have been in matches where we were 4-1 down and managed to pull it back just by communicating where enemies were.

    Cons

    * Servers a bit rubbish at the moment, be prepared to be dropped a few times.

*Gun height takes some getting used to but you will get used to it. Bringing the gun to your head in game is chest height in reality but this is stop you from smacking yourself in the face.

    * matches should probably be best of 3, there a bit too much waiting in the lobby between matches especially if someone leaves.

*Speaking of the lobby, it really needs something to do between matches. You can spend half your time sitting in the lobby so it is one area I would love to see change.

    * Aim can be a little floaty and grenades can be tricky to track one they hit the ground and bounce, that may be more of a personal gripe though.

I did use paragraphs but I'm not sure they show up. Sorry for the block text if so...

Firstly, the negative. There are some tracking issues beyond what seems to be attributable to camera placement and lighting. Firstly, the negative. There are some tracking issues beyond what seems to be attributable to camera placement and lighting. However I have found that this can mostly be overcome with the correct set up and then the odd power-cycle of the aim controller. Whether this is the game or just the PSVR setup in general I am unsure. Perseverance plays a big part here. I have mostly overcome this now and with the odd-power cycle, it's not that much of a deal breaker really.

No Host migration. If the host player leaves (particularly mid-game) it can be a bit frustrating as the entire game is "destroyed" and everyone is chucked out to the main menu, even disbanding your squad. The rounds are short. It would be nicer if there were fewer lobbies and maybe a best of three round system.

Now for the positive. I LOVE this game, despite the above, and it can only get better. I've been playing for a solid 2-3 hours a day since launch. I'm only level 19 which indicates to me that I am not very good at it. I see new players much lower level than me being much better than me in my team, but hey... I'm old and rubbish at games so it's to be expected.

The gameplay is largely slow paced, where creeping around the map is essential, as are strong team communication skills. There is very little of the john Rambo style play here, or call of duty players jumping around the corners and bouncing all over the place in what I would deem unrealistic. Thank you for not putting a jump button in. Most games with a jump feature are really exploited for this (battlefield 4) removing any element of realism that the game could have had. The rounds are short, and focused and they're over quickly which could be seen as a negative, however for me, that just impresses upon me how important it is to employ proper tactics, strategy planning, communication and taking care. Is it the most realistic game play out there? No, but these things certainly help it toward that goal. And when actual firefights break out, it can be amazingly intense and ultimately very rewarding.

The game is not really complicated and as many would say, if this was a flat screen game, it would probably fall flat (excuse the pun) but it has to be simple, because it's VR. Standard FPS control doesn't really apply here. You can walk in one direction, aim in another direction and look in yet another direction. Being able to aim your gun at a door way and look to check your flanks without moving your gun is a game changer. It adds to the immersion and realism no end. Being able to peek around corners properly without pre-defined character positions and being able to blind fire round corners is fantastic. As an FPS game in VR, this is fantastic and pretty much the only thing we have that resembles a proper, tactical shooter on the PSVR. It is immense fun but saying (and hearing) "just one more round" in lobbies for an hour or longer does get tedious. It's very hard for me to tear myself away from this game. It is very addictive and there is a constant personal objective to do better next time.

I would highly recommend this game to people who like proper tactical game play and not just run-and-gun shooters. Although microphones may not be deemed essential, a team with players all on microphone will always be at an advantage, and it can be a might frustrating meeting team players who are incommunicado. I'll play the game and then leave after the round has finished. I have met plenty of great team mates on this game and the community seems to be non-toxic, patient and forgiving. I was nervous before jumping in for the first time for the fear of letting people down, but I've had a great time.

I created an account to review this game. It really has lived up to what I hoped it would be. Everything about it feels great, the mechanics are spot on. People moaning about the nipple aim, me and my mates don't even notice it at all. The only thing it could improve on is make it best of three rounds, but I'm sure they will patch that. This is worth buying a Vr for.

    - Slow progression. It doesn't really bother me cause this way you have something to grind for and keep playing but yeah it's a little on the slow side.
    - The weapon model is a bit higher in-game than your physical controller which bums out some people but i don' really mind

    Con's:
    - No host migration yet so when the host quits, you all quit and if the host has a bad connection you'll probably get kicked. (they're gonna fix that soon)

World Class VR Experience But With Stakes

I recently went to the VOID and did the Aliens and Star Wars experience where I actually got to move through space and it was a ton of fun but the main issue I had with all those experiences was the lack of stakes. As visceral and fun as it was, in the end, it just felt like a ride. As if I was playing poker but with fun points. Firewall gives me that visceral experience minus the movement but with stakes!

    A Solid Foundation

The gunplay works great, the maps offer a lot of different experiences including verticality, the sound is on point and if you make some friends lobbies can be quick to fill and play.

    Replayability

The progressions system works once you get on the PVP train the rewards feel about right and I've been able to unlock what I want at a reasonable pace. Being a competitive player I saved up and tricked out the Stalker and mainly purchased performance and skill upgrades but somehow even this game got me to buy some camo!

Even with few levels, the designers did something very smart by creating multiple Assault and Defense spawn locations which really change how the map is played and provide a lot of variance in gameplay.

    PVE vs PVP

Firewall does something at first that feels bad but makes a lot of sense. The PVE is a good starter experience to get your feet wet but is definitely but is tuned to not level you up as quickly or give you as many rewards however this makes a lot of sense once you think about it. The main experience of the game is PVP and while some may want a bigger more robust singleplayer experience that's not what is going to get the adrenaline flowing and it's not where the game shines. The game shines in PVP because people are smarter than AI that runs at you and so it makes sense to put the rewards and encourage players to go there and fill the queues.

    What's Next

With a solid foundation and launch, First Contact has a real opportunity to start tweaking and adding to the game and keep it alive. It's an amazing concept come to live and definitely worth a PSVR purchase on its own just to be a part of this experience.

The gameplay itself is what sets this game apart. Like Rainbow Sic Siege, you choose an operator and take out the bad guys. Like any other online game, the community is who you're primarily up against. While we don't currently know what the size of the community is, it is far friendlier and more team oriented than the likes of Battlefield or COD. Pop into a lobby and you're usually met with at least 2 out of 3 teammates that are utilizing the PSVR's built in microphone to actually communicate, strategize, and ultimately have fun. So far in the roughly 25-30 hours I have into the online play, I've only encountered 2 people that were being trolls. Now obviously this experience may vary, but from everyone I've talked to, the online community for this game seems incredibly kind and devoted.
This game would easily be a 10 for me if it weren't for the peer to peer matchmaking, squading issues, and in game voice chat cutting out during loading screens (or at least an easier way to access your squad mates profiles for partying up in an outside party chat). But those are very minor gripes compared to the incredible amount of fun to be had here. Find a squad of players that all talk and communicate effectively, and you can usually stay in the same lobby for hours with very few people dropping in or out. The experience delivered here is top notch, and hopefully as soon as First Contact gets the minor issues sorted out and perhaps some dedicated servers- we could potentially have a true juggernaut on our hands. Only time will tell if a large enough community forms to keep the online experience going for the foreseeable future, but if enough people take a chance on it, it'll be an awful lot of fun for all of us PSVR fps fans for quite some time to come.

I never experienced lag or any weird issues and that is on LAUNCH. That never happens. The graphics are fantastic, the gun sounds realistic, the maps varied and gorgeous, and it facilitates teamwork and cooperation. The games are quick and you get into a game right away after finishing. I played three hours last night and never had a lull in the action.
There are SO many guns to unlock, skills, cosmetics, and other customization options. I truly can't believe how well the developers made this game. It is instantly accessible yet deep enough to keep unlocking and trying out things for months.
    The aim tracking is impeccable.
Grouping up with other people works perfectly and they even let you invite recent players to your party. It's small details like this that go a long way.
People may complain that the walking movement is too slow. But guess what - there is a contractor with extra speed and also a skill that gives you extra speed. That means when you DO unlock those things, it is going to seem extra powerful. So the weakness is actually a strength - the choices you make on your character actually matter.
If you are a gamer, this is ABSOLUTELY WORTH BUYING A PSVR and even buying a PS4 if you don't have one. I am dead serious. It's that much fun. I haven't had this much fun playing a video game since I was a kid and we discovered goldeneye. Something about being in VR with your friends, attacking other people and the infinite strategic variations other humans bring, is completely mind blowing.
I'm actually concerned this game is going to ruin my life because it's that good. Not perfect -- nothing is-- but I truly believe this will go down as the landmark game when the masses discover how good VR is really good. I can honestly say I have no desire to play anything else and no desire to play flat games anymore. It's like going from black and white to color.

The developers at First Contact Entertainment have already stated that they plan to stick with the game so most, if not all, bugs should be cleaned up through patches. There is a lack of game modes with it being online only and being limited to one game mode via PvP and PvE.

Despite the games launch bugs FZH has gameplay that is solid and smooth, it has deep customization options, and despite jaggies the graphics are quite crisp and clean.

Currently FZH is, in my opinion, the best shooter on PSVR while overall, FZH is a solid realistic shooter that is made better through VR and should only improve over time.

Took me a good few games to get the shooting down but once you have that on point, my word it's brilliant! It's only real game mode is 4v4 Attack Vs Defence, the target being a laptop. Don't let that put you off, I just put a 5-6 hour session in and not one moment of feeling a bit sick (Resident evil 7 style) and that one game mode just don't get boring. Make sure you buy it with the Aim Controller if you don't already own one. This would be nowhere near as good if you were using a dualshock controller. One final word, the community may be very small but in all the hours I've put in to the game so far, I have not come across one ******* Everyone is pretty much mic'd up and enjoying the hell out of this game. If you have a PSVR, don't even think twice about buying it. If you don't, this is the game I'd say it's worth purchasing for. Expand

Simply the best PSVR experience out there. People say it’s like Rainbow six, but actually playing a tactical multiplayer in VR is much more thrilling. If you have a PSVR set then you need this game.

Until you actually put yourself into the VR headset, you'll never know how great it really is. This game has potential to be really great. There’s currently some issues with game hosts dropping out, not being able to play with friends, and with the aim controller tracking (the gun is higher in game than in real life). If these issues are fixed I think the game would deserve a 8 or 9 rating. I’ll update my review as time goes on. Really fun though!

This is the real deal folks. A great FPS game, sneaky and slow, tactical and intense. Compared to normal FPS-game you are so involved and your nerves are spiked.
It has minor flaws and balance issues, but it is a rather small company that has produced this title. If it can keep up with enough players for a long time, with developer support it could be hit.
I can see a professional scene

Amazing game, a defining moment for VR. The control scheme is intuitive, the experience is unmatched. A few easy to resolve niggles - 3 round matches need to be patched in, host migration is needed and the offset on the aim should be made optional or adjustable. If you don't buy this game you are missing something truly brilliant!

Let's be fair. Right now the user score is 9.1. Yes, it is a good game, but I do not think it deserves that much. By watching traillers, I was expecting a game of strategy more than action (like Megal Gear), but the game is about quick gameplay sessions, although is does require team strategy. Is it worth buying? Yes, I do recommend.

What is great: It is a "can't stop playing" type, challenging, good graphics, huge and detailed maps . One great innovation is the ability to keep playing even after you die - you are able to look at the room's cameras and give voice guidance to your team warning them where the enemies are, best route to go, etc.

What is not great: No campaign mode (only some training sessions), always the same firewall story (objective) that never changes, more time spent at the lobby than gameplays, server connection issues (hope it gets fixed). Also, if you are unable to speak in English, you are in disadvantage as voice communication is one of the best and most important features, not that you won't be able to play and win. The worst thing is that one day the game will likely die after it gets old and nobody plays online anymore. Single player is not worth it at all.

This is the kind of game that will set the new standard for FPS in VR. This is an absolute must own game and I would argue is worth getting a VR for if you dont already own one. My only hope is that the developers support the game with more content post launch and fine tune the AIM controller. Feels just shy of the accuracy Farpoint offers. If they can get that corrected, WOW!

Why isnt there any rounds? there should be like 3 or 4 rounds that would make this lobby system okay. but one short 2 minute hide and seek and then its back to the main menu again. Firewall Zero Hour needs more support from a pretty large community of PSVR owners. It's understandable that it may not be everyone's choice of gameplay. With dozens of small quirky titles and some fully fledged AAA games that don't rely on interpersonal competitiveness, some players may choose to pass on this shooter. It's way too early to tell if the game will take off and garner the praise and community that it arguably deserves. Firewall Zero Hour is a dream for any shooter fan.
