At its heart, Comrades definitely has the right ideas. It has problems that appear to largely stem from being built as an afterthought atop a single-player focused game, but many of the ideas it has for a multiplayer Final Fantasy experience are pretty strong, and there’s a particularly impressive effort to tell a proper FF story in a multiplayer setting that pans out remarkably well. Oh, and it has a lovely new theme tune by Nobuo Uematsu. If this is indeed a test for the future, it’s a solid proof of concept – if not exactly a must-play at this point in time.

The character customisation and co-op play here is in-depth and a lot of fun. The best thing about Comrades is that it helps build some much needed anticipation from a narrative perspective when talking about the transition from Chapter 13 to 14 in the base game. There's build-up now for the rest of the world and Noctis' return heading into the final Ardyn Battle, it doesn't just feel like a quick 10-year time skip anymore. The journey with your custom character helps build the world and raise tensions in the story because you now have direct understanding of the external factors and high stakes that make the final fight such a monumental moment. Finally a game where I can change every aspect of my avatars appearance AND name anytime I want, how often I want without earning the right to or be even able to in game.
The combat is the same as in the main game, despite the magic and the buff slots on the weapons and their crafting. The loading times are a pain in the ass and the dlc is quite buggy I have to say.
The "story" and events are totally clichee and it all comes down to grinding thorugh the events.
The good thing is the combat is as addicting as in the main game so I spent 30 hours to my lvl 37 avatar right now and only one achievement missing.

+ Better fight experience vs bosses than the story mode game
+ nice weapon upgrade system once you understand it
+ a mode with much potential , so hopefully the upcoming updates add + to it than -
