My record got worse over the years and i know why. It's so obvious when the referee whistles for everything against you and the opponent can just slam you into the ground and nothing happens. Same goes for passing. Messi and Ronaldo can't pass, but the opponent's fellaini can pass from one side of the field to the other side. Messi can't control the ball, etc etc. Very obvious and it makes the game VERY frustrating and less enjoyable. If you talk about this on the fifa forums you'll get banned. It's rather pathetic.

Last year i played a lot less fifa because of this cr*p.

If you play mostly online, you may get alot enjoyment out of fifa 17. I played a couple clubs drop in games and i liked it. The increased physicality means the little speedy guys no longer dominate, which is great.

This game features more realistic physics, which changes the way the plays in variety of ways, butthe physics simply don't apply to your CPU opponent. They buzz around without any sense of weight, fire off hyper-accurate passes and shots, and are completely unaffected by physical contact. The real problem is how they do all of things at the same time. Once, I was dribbling at full speed, and a defender turned around to challenge for the ball, the collision knocked my player back about three yards. The CPU player, who was not affected by the collision, collected the ball and passed it while I was in the stumbling animation. These types of things happens AL THE TIME. Not only does it make the game frustratingly difficult, it looks ridiculous. If this only happened on the highest difficulty, I wouldnt mind, but I'm only playing on Professional.

Graphically, the cutscenes look great, but the on field action is a step back. EA tryed to improve the lighting this year, but the result is the game actully looks more pixellated than last year.

Not a good game this year.

If you've ever played The Order 1886 on the PlayStation 4, then the best analogy I can give to you is that FIFA 17 is The Order 1886 of sports games; all style, and very little substance.

If you've ever played The Order 1886 on the PlayStation 4, then the best analogy I can give to you is that FIFA 17 is The Order 1886 of sports games; all style, and very little substance.

The game definitely looks brilliant from afar, which will be most of your in-game experience, and the presentation overall is very neat, much like the sport's representation on premium television channels. In my opinion however, I think all of this is to the detriment of the game itself.

FIFA 17 spends more time wanting to 'look' like football and how its seen on Sky Sports, than how football should actually play as a sport. The obvious comparison to FIFA is PES, and this area is where PES ultimately wins between the two in this year's iterations. FIFA's gameplay on the field lacks any kind of purpose, its entirely unbalanced in terms of individual player attributes and how they translate on the pitch, and tactics also are poorly implemented in match play. Both these elements are in stark contrast to how PES performs in these areas.

Passing is sluggish and take an age to power up, goalfeel is non-existent, and AI defenses make space so easily - even on World Class and Legendary - that it's impossible not to score a goal against them; leaving the player ultimately unsatisfied even though it should be the opposite (i.e. goalfeel). Animations string well together, but they also take priority over user input and responsiveness, which ultimately results in a frustrating gameplay experience. PES' goalkeepers have been refined this year from a bad state into an excellent one, and now this highlights massive shortcomings in FIFA's goalkeepers, whose animations are limited, are slow to respond to medium-speed 30 yard strikes, and are often capable of making a hash of situations due to the games dodgy collision detection engine.

Game modes such as FUT and Online Seasons will always have the upper hand on PES (even with their equivalent modes) due to EA's deep pockets and human resources, and The Journey now makes full advantage of such resources. It's a nice addition to the game and very entertaining, but its not quite as significant as EA would like it to be, with a campaign only lasting one season and resulting in about 16 hours in total (across both the story and gameplay elements). That said, this is one game mode that FIFA can claim is an advantage over PES' offerings, and one that Konami will probably never have the confidence in replicating for its PES franchise due to the lack of potential economic returns.

FIFA's Career Mode is much the same as before, inspite of claims that EA have "vastly improved" it, which is old hat as far as many FIFA fans are concerned. Career Mode is still a good, well structured mode on the face of things. It could be argued however that PES's Master League has much more substance and depth behind it, especially considering it's transfer processes and team-based statistical analysis before and after matches.

Even with all of FIFA's depth in game modes, graphical fidelity, licenses, and presentation, FIFA still falls short where it truly matters in a sports game: the gameplay - the transfer of the sport itself to the game and how it plays. In this regards, FIFA is way off, and has quite a bit of catching up to do with it's opposition. FIFA demonstrated so much promise with the introduction of the Frostbite Engine, and aesthetically FIFA has vastly improved and is now outclassing PES, but the hope that the core game from FIFA 16 getting an overhaul with its addition will leave many people very disappointed.

The Journey has been the only real redeeming factor from FIFA 17, and even it can't really save FIFA from it's own poor core gameplay. What it does do, however, is stop me from giving the game a 5/10, and instead redeeming a respectable score of 6/10.

Not good enough for a AAA title of it's magnitude. If you're looking for a good football game this year, buy Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 (or FIFA 12, or PES 3-6)....

The journey just hides the fact that they released once again a bad game. Bugs, glitches, fouls not given, stupid AI decisions, opposite team passing the ball forever although they're losing 1-0. Boring game as usual, carrying the same problems since fifa 13, never corrected unless it concerns FUT aka Money Tree. They have been putting different icing on the same cake for years.

Ultimate team is the same as last year. Micro transactions everywhere. No need to get all those good players, your 75 rated team will play as good as your 83 rated one because of handicap. Players don't do what you ask them to, they'll panic and miss easy passes for no reason while your opponent seems to get 100% passing. Same 45' and 90' scripting. They never learn.

Don't even talk about pro clubs and the broken AI if you don't play "any".

EA would benefit from releasing a game only every 2 years instead of rushing it every time. 1 year is not enough to test it properly.

The bad: The matchmaking in Ultimate Team (the most popular feature in the game) is horrible. Even if the connection indicator says that the connection is good and stable, it might just not be the case. I haven't gathered the data, but it feels like 60-70% of all the matches are laggy and/or there is a button delay. This is not acceptable from a competitive gaming perspective.

The player changing are just as horrible as the matchmaking. When defending a counter attack it's down to sheer luck if you get the right player.

Unfortunatelly my worst expectations were confirmed while playing this game: unresponsive controls and, unrealistic gameplay. Passes always end up in the feet of the wrong player, defenders are not doing their job and tactical play is not being rewarded at all. I don't understand why EA doesn't focus more on the gameplay instead of the licenses and graphics.

My son liked it anyway so we kept playing and I tried to keep my frustrations to myself. I had no fun playing this game whatsoever and I can't wait untill someone will make a good football game that is both realistic and fun to play. In the meantime I will enjoy a few games of PES 17 or (if I can convince my son to play on a console from the stone ages) PES 2 on the PlayStation 2, in my opinion still the best football game ever.

I have easily cruised past few divisions with a mediocre team, but then it all started to change. I have purchase very good players such as Benzema and started losing by 3-4 goals with chemistry being 100. So my point here is, the UT is flooded with scripting so that when you do well, you get penalised so you would buy the coins for better players. Fanboys would neglect it but i am a casual player - why would i spend money on a game i have already paid for. So here you have it - the developer is already cheating on us players. But apart from that, he gameplay is as bad as it can be, the defenders crash into each other, you cant make 3 straight successful passes. 'The Journey' is stolen from the 2KSports NBA franchise, but executed much more poorly. My main complaints were that the gameplay in this mode is just awful, with the AI trying so hard to get you the ball all the time that almost every game ends up 0-0, and players miss open goals if you didn't provide the ball for them, but can score much harder goals if you do. If you're an experienced player you'll just be frustrated with how poor the AI is, and if you're a newbie you'll probably just be confused why it plays nothing like real football. I was also disappointed that 'The Journey' ends after only a season, with nothing to do other than pick up an FUT card for your player (useless for me as I don't play FUT).

The career mode is likewise disappointing. EA Sports tried to add some extra depth with seasonal career objectives, but these are (like the season goals from previous games) poorly aligned with your club's status or previous performance. Do well one season, and the next season (without your budget increasing) you'll be expected to win everything, oh and also stop your player wages increasing. The youth player goals (e.g. get 5 players to improve by 10 points in a year) are particularly frustrating - you spend the whole season training just those players to improve their stats, then next year those players get nothing while you do it all over again with new players. I felt like I spent too much of my time training players, scouting players and desperately trying to sell players and not enough time actually playing. Taking corners and free kicks (unless you're shooting) I find very confusing, there are so many controls that don't seem to do much.

On the positive side, I do like the preseason tournaments, and I have felt that the free kick taking is more balanced this year than any previous FIFA game I've played.

In terms of the gameplay in game, I've found the controls to be slightly sluggish, but also confusing in this game too. Previously controls were set up so something like a quick feint or turn was easy, but these are now much more difficult to pull off, as a result, embarassing dribbling errors happen all the time. My brother and I had a long discussion about how awful the penalties are: any penalty system where you can easily send the ball off at 90 degrees from the player is poorly designed. The whole idea of penalties is that they are scored more often than not.

I struggled to learn FIFA15, but it was fairly enjoyable once I mastered it. FIFA17 though, I played one season of 'The Journey' and one season in career mode, and I'm done. Perhaps FIFA will return to being a fun game eventually, but not this year.

    Where to start....
FUT has terrible lag (that happens WAY too often), that can delay players movements so badly that it can cause your GK to score a home goal. and im not alone on this, it seems to be quite an issue judging by many online comments.

The scripting (in offline in particular) is unbearable and has become ridiculous and literally predictable. You can go from defeating a legendary 4 star team 2-0, to losing an infuriating game against professional 2 star team 3-0 (usually in a defining game).

When the momentum goes against you its like your trying to steer a tanker through quick sand, whilst the AI or your opponent seem to run and turn seamlessly, and if by pure fluky chance you do get a break, the AI will catch up to your 90+ pace player and just as youre about to shoot it will do the most amazing tackle from behind that not only stops your shot and potential goal, and not only trips your player to the ground (with out getting a red card)...but also INJURES YOUR PLAYER! And this sort of thing happens *all-the-time*

The scripting in FUT can also be annoying especially when at the end of the game your stats tell a very different story to the score (13 shots, 11 on target vs 2 shots 1 on target...score: 0-1). This happens WAY too often.

One of my personal pet hates is the "change player" button issue, where it wont give you the correct player until its too late (opponent makes a run, you hit the change player button and it keeps clicking on to a CM behind your opponent rather than the CB in front of your opponent. THIS is the worst, and is just another clear sign of a broken game.

This game is infuriating, not fun and judging by the hundreds if not thousands of comments and videos of enraged FIFA 17 players (some people posting video of themselves breaking the disk) this game is not worth one red cent of your money, nor one iota of your time.

Dont do it. I wish I hadnt.

i regret every penny i spent on this game, the terrible programming of game mechanics is ok, but when i write feedback for the EA forums about the terrible fails in their game and they warn me because of it ! then here is the problem, they want to shut every negative review about this game. this game is full with scripting/handicaping, basically even if you play better, game mechanics willi regret every penny i spent on this game, the terrible programming of game mechanics is ok, but when i write feedback for the EA forums about the terrible fails in their game and they warn me because of it ! then here is the problem, they want to shut every negative review about this game. this game is full with scripting/handicaping, basically even if you play better, game mechanics will nerf ur players so you get lose if you had an online win streak. every1 going to buy this game, trust me. just don't buy it, you will regret buying this game so hard.
players sometimes refuse to respond to controller, the whole game is totally frustrating. i already wrote a list of 30 faults in the game on EA forums and everytime it is deleted by admins, basically EA don't care for customers they care about money and only money. they don't want players whos going to buy this game to see how terrible it is. they just make you fall in this trap!!!!!!
just don't buy this sh*t , fifa17 is the biggest scam in history

With much-needed tweaks in visuals and gameplay, some improvements in the career mode and the addition of the Journey Mode, FIFA 17 has retained its place as the best football simulator available on the market.

The story mode (this year’s biggest selling point) is not perfect, but I was surprised how much I was invested in this idealized adventure every little boy dreams of while playing football with his pals. None other mode in FIFA or PES provides such experience. In all other departments – licenses, visuals, sound, atmosphere – the new FIFA is as strong as ever. [12/2016, p.67]

The inclusion of a story mode represents a move into fresh ground for the FIFA series. [Dec 2016, p.66]
