One of the bests Fifa's. It has it's failures, but it's a good game. The new journey mode it's good, but can be improve it. The rest of the games stays the same, comparing to the previous games.

This fifa is definitely better than the last few that came out, some of the annoying things that made fifa 16 annoying, such as manually chaining minimum price on the transfer market has been made easier with a simple button command. Dribbling is also better...BUT goal keepers are still crap in this game!

This was a huge step forward from the dreadful FIFA 16, it isn't brilliant to say the least I have recently gone back and played older FIFA's and even though the graphics are nowhere near as good they are just better games. The Journey was good, if it or something similar is to be in FIFA 18 there is a lot of work to do but overall it is a lot better than FIFA 16.

Based on these few days since i bought it, the gameplay seems a bit messy, the cutscenes in the game are kinda messy too (i'm refering to the faults, complaints, cards, players rambling etc) fast paced and slow movements at the same time, some of them do not seem natural at all, i don't know if it's the new engine mode.

The gameplay is fuzzy sometimes, gkeepers look at the ball, while it enters to goal, they just stand there watching it.. sometimes, it feels like it's not responsive in every way. It may be me, or still i need to get used to it. The interface, it's the same as Fifa16, which is.. i don't know.. a diferent interactive UI based menu would be nice.. but i don't know.. maybe it can't be more interactive than the previous one, i can't say because i'm not a designer.

But it's a very good game though, some good improvements as players motion in the field with or w/out the ball in beetween many things that improved too, awesome graphics and very good sound effects in field.. but still alot of work to do (patches and updates).. and please.. fix Renato Sanches face.. is it about licensing? If not.. c'mon..

This improvement is really appreciated given how messy it could have been if they stick the previous year system.
Sadly, however, fifa 17 still suffer from feeling of playing and arcade game of football instead of real life simulation football because of one aspect of the game, that is in my view, the finishing. I have played every installment of fifa since 2013 to 2017, and fifa 17 is the easiest in term of scoring goals from seasons online and FUT that I have played. Crossing to the box often result in player succesfully head the ball, to the net, running to the corner of the field with bale and pass it to the box almost everytime result in player in the box receiving it and easily score a simple tap-in goal, and the far post as well as the low-shot finish is very OP.
The goalkeeper doesn't help either, compared to last year, goalkeeper is nerfed to make it more realistic to a real life situation. This, unfortunately, also make the keeper too easy to score against and also sometimes there is a situation where the goalie just do not know what to do if the defender is trying to tackle the ball inside the box from the opponent.
Compared to pes 17, as I own both, gameplay of pes is alot smoother, the finishing as well as the goalkeeper is also better. From this gameplay experience, fifa still have some aspect of the game that lacks the good football simulation.

A completely different mode based around the rise of a young football player transitioning from a kid that kicks ball to a sports superstar. I am quite impressed by what EA delivered here, never thought they would put this much effort into it but they did and it has paid off in many aspects. Next time, they should make statistic tables available so we can see how well the protagonist is playing compared to the rest of the players in the league. Is he top scorer, is he topping the assists table, how many yellow cards has he received etc. Not being able to see Match Facts after a game is completed is nothing but an immature error on EA's part. They should also give the user the option to continue beyond the first season, minus the cut scenes. It feels like all the training is a bit of a waste. Having predetermined attributes like having low FK accuracy regardless of what position you play is also a far-sighted move. Not all strikers in real life are terrible at free kicks. I think a player type on top of being able to choose what position would have sufficed, like a shooter who's shooting stats are better than normal, a target man who's physical and heading stats are better than normal, or a player maker with good passing and vision stats etc. There's already more depth looking at it like this, which would no doubt improve the game mode. I also think the interview triggers and social media reactions need a lot of work, I could score two goals and bag an assist in one game and then the interviewer tells me I got one goal and an assist. If I bag a hat-trick, the reactions on social media are either non-existent or "a goal from" you, "what a player". Significant events that go beyond a goal or an assist such as winning the league or breaking other records aren't highlighted at all by social media. This is extremely unrealistic and requires a lot of tweaking to reflect reality better.

Elsewhere, they announced they were making changes to Career Mode. Having played it, it quite clearly is barely any different from before. No real improvements to be seen here unlike how they portrayed it before the game release. They need to revamp it with some features reminiscent of the older FIFAs, namely FIFA 10 with the ticket pricing and stadium building etc. It's been the same for ages.

In terms of FUT, the new Squad Builder Challenge mode is an excellent addition to the game, as it means that leftover players who otherwise have no use for gameplay can still be used to trade in for the chance (or guaranteed depending on the description of each of these challenges) to obtain better players who are more useful. It also greatly affects the market to a surprisingly large degree, which is always a good thing as it keeps me more on my toes and make the overall experience more challenging, more competitive but ultimately more rewarding.

Gameplay wise, mostly some slight improvements. Moving mechanics are mostly more fluid, FK's can now be adjustable to make them more versatile and ultimately more experimental, although clunky at the moment I'm sure this will improve in the future. Shooting is pretty much the most improved feature in this game, there are so many ways and techniques to shoot the ball and I'd say it's the best feature of the game. There is a lot to be enjoyed with shooting in this FIFA particularly. However, there is without a doubt a button lag problem where your player doesn't respond quick enough when I press the most important buttons in pass, move and shoot. I understand that this is a meant to be a stroke of realism as no one reacts to balls or situations instantly but the amount of time it takes for basic functions to be completed is utterly ridiculous sometimes. First time shooting for instance is awful in this game. Fouls are also the worst they've ever been, they allow defenders to shove attacking opposition off the ball despite not getting the ball at all while doing so and allowing their teammates to pick up the ball. There is a difference between shielding the ball - which is legal - and shoving the opponent off completely while they're running or dribbling. EA clearly haven't got the distinction right here. Through balls are also dodgy at times when my players ignore great balls at times. It's way too easy to overshoot them too.

Arena is also completely broken now. I cannot choose players outside the starting XI for any club to perhaps test them out for the Player Pro Career mode. They've removed Set Piece training and Practice Matches. Free kicks within the arena are also completely broken, you cannot move the player normally to aim at all.

Other than that, it is a decent to good game. As always with games like FIFA, they can be really frustrating at times but I feel that EA have done a decent job on the game as a whole.

If you've ever played The Order 1886 on the PlayStation 4, then the best analogy I can give to you is that FIFA 17 is The Order 1886 of sports games; all style, and very little substance.

The game definitely looks brilliant from afar, which will be most of your in-game experience, and the presentation overall is very neat, much like the sport's representation on premium television channels. In my opinion however, I think all of this is to the detriment of the game itself.

FIFA 17 spends more time wanting to 'look' like football and how its seen on Sky Sports, than how football should actually play as a sport. The obvious comparison to FIFA is PES, and this area is where PES ultimately wins between the two in this year's iterations. FIFA's gameplay on the field lacks any kind of purpose, its entirely unbalanced in terms of individual player attributes and how they translate on the pitch, and tactics also are poorly implemented in match play. Both these elements are in stark contrast to how PES performs in these areas.

Passing is sluggish and take an age to power up, goalfeel is non-existent, and AI defenses make space so easily - even on World Class and Legendary - that it's impossible not to score a goal against them; leaving the player ultimately unsatisfied even though it should be the opposite (i.e. goalfeel). Animations string well together, but they also take priority over user input and responsiveness, which ultimately results in a frustrating gameplay experience. PES' goalkeepers have been refined this year from a bad state into an excellent one, and now this highlights massive shortcomings in FIFA's goalkeepers, whose animations are limited, are slow to respond to medium-speed 30 yard strikes, and are often capable of making a hash of situations due to the games dodgy collision detection engine.

Game modes such as FUT and Online Seasons will always have the upper hand on PES (even with their equivalent modes) due to EA's deep pockets and human resources, and The Journey now makes full advantage of such resources. It's a nice addition to the game and very entertaining, but its not quite as significant as EA would like it to be, with a campaign only lasting one season and resulting in about 16 hours in total (across both the story and gameplay elements). That said, this is one game mode that FIFA can claim is an advantage over PES' offerings, and one that Konami will probably never have the confidence in replicating for its PES franchise due to the lack of potential economic returns.

FIFA's Career Mode is much the same as before, inspite of claims that EA have "vastly improved" it, which is old hat as far as many FIFA fans are concerned. Career Mode is still a good, well structured mode on the face of things. It could be argued however that PES's Master League has much more substance and depth behind it, especially considering it's transfer processes and team-based statistical analysis before and after matches.

Even with all of FIFA's depth in game modes, graphical fidelity, licenses, and presentation, FIFA still falls short where it truly matters in a sports game: the gameplay - the transfer of the sport itself to the game and how it plays. In this regards, FIFA is way off, and has quite a bit of catching up to do with it's opposition. FIFA demonstrated so much promise with the introduction of the Frostbite Engine, and aesthetically FIFA has vastly improved and is now outclassing PES, but the hope that the core game from FIFA 16 getting an overhaul with its addition will leave many people very disappointed.

The Journey has been the only real redeeming factor from FIFA 17, and even it can't really save FIFA from it's own poor core gameplay. What it does do, however, is stop me from giving the game a 5/10, and instead redeeming a respectable score of 6/10.

Not good enough for a AAA title of it's magnitude. If you're looking for a good football game this year, buy Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 (or FIFA 12, or PES 3-6)....

I feel as though they haven't done anything to improve the passing or game control. When I'm winning I feel like I can never connect any passes and my goalie is just short of stupid in late game situations. When I want to "park the bus" I feel really vulnerable and it doesn't seem to go as planned. Also, there have been too many times I have given up a goal in the 45th or 90th minute because of a breakdown defensively that I have no control over. That part of the game has seemed to carry over through the past couple years.

There are a couple things that I did notice a change in and that is the on the ball dribbling, free kicks/corners, and penalty kicks. I feel like i have more control dribbling the ball through the midfield and can connect my tricks with little no problems at all. As for free kicks, I like that you can change your angle of striking the ball. I think this gives you an advantage to be able to bend the ball a certain way. Plus, it makes me feel like I have more control of what's going on. I really like the new corner kicks because you can now control where the ball ends up and how it gets there. Whether that be through a high lob or a low liner with the right amount of bend to catch the goalie off-guard. Lastly, penalty kicks are the worst change I have ever seen. In my opinion, a pk should be an automatic goal, with the change they have taken that completely out of the game. It is more difficult to get down and I don't feel as confident when I'm awarded a pk in a game. I've lost games because of it.

One last little bit, they have done a great job with the goal celebrations over the past couple years and I think there's something to be said for that. I always like to "dab" on my haters when I score.
All-in-all, I like playing this game and I will continue to support Fifa as they continue to make these games. I just think that they still need to clean up a couple aspects of it and it will be gravy.

Frostbite graphics argument of EA is a pure joke, the game looks ugly concerning the details and environment around the field.

The new french commentary is boring and rarely says something interesting, and note that the audio mixing is catastrophic, you will have to go into settings to ear the french commentators properly.

New journey mode is scripted and is very short, another joke argument of EA.
Pro Clubs mode is slightly improved but the changes are too minor, if not useless ingame. Same for career mode.
FUT mode also suffers from scripting, at certain times your players will fail to make any good pass or shot, no matter if they are 75 or 89 rated. It often happens that the best gamer of an online match looses because of scripting. And yes, everything in this mode is still related to money, it may explain some things.

So to resume, gameplay and scripting are the big problems of this game. No detailed analysis here, but even passing doesn't feel as it should in a true good football game.
That being said, there is a lot of content in this game, but it is only an updated content mostly. And we can't enjoy it because of bad gameplay.

The new extremely short story mode is nothing but make-up to the fact there is nothing different in this game compared to FIFA 15. It seems to be one of EA Sport's most popular titles, yet it continues to disappoint each year. Looking past the new and interesting "The Journey" mode (which ends up lasting not as long as many might have hoped), the game suffers from frustratingly bland career mode options which seem to be left behind in development in the game each year. Looking past the new and interesting "The Journey" mode (which ends up lasting not as long as many might have hoped), the game suffers from frustratingly bland career mode options which seem to be left behind in development in the game each year. So what do EA do during the year they have to create their game? Yes, it seems that they have been able to upgrade their graphics to make the game look a little bit more bright and colourful, but honestly other than a few tweaks to gameplay to make it a more pacy experience, the game lacks any real innovation. I don't see how they can continue to push away from improving their game modes and adding beneficial new features. Why does customisation lack so much? Why can't we create our own teams in the game? Why not allow us to create a team that can be used in manager mode, or simply add the ability to customise kits and sponsors throughout the years in manager mode? These are only small details that could help the game out. The game could be expanded on so much more, yet the game is stuck in the past. Despite the large sale numbers, FIFA continues to disappoint with a real absence of any substance to keep you interested. Expand

With much-needed tweaks in visuals and gameplay, some improvements in the career mode and the addition of the Journey Mode, FIFA 17 has retained its place as the best football simulator available on the market.

The story mode (this year’s biggest selling point) is not perfect, but I was surprised how much I was invested in this idealized adventure every little boy dreams of while playing football with his pals. None other mode in FIFA or PES provides such experience. In all other departments – licenses, visuals, sound, atmosphere – the new FIFA is as strong as ever. [12/2016, p.67]

The inclusion of a story mode represents a move into fresh ground for the FIFA series. [Dec 2016, p.66]
