Fifa 16. the gameplay is just plain awkward, even with amazing ratings in agility, balance, ball control and dribbling you never feel like you are 100% in control of your attackers movement. Defending is made easier which would be a good thing if they didn't nerf attacking play to hell. Every match's outcome seems to be a coinflip and I havent seen any legit ways of dominating a game. The negative reviews on this game must be from all the players who used to just use Messi/Ronaldo and hold the sprint button down. I enjoy the gameplay of this iteration of Fifa much more than the prior several years because if forces you to actually plan your attacks and then execute.

FIFA16 isn't a "bad" game. It's competent in what it sets out to do, it offers a decent game of footy on the PS4 and is a very polished overall package.

The problem with it is the lack of innovation throughout for a good three years now; it is essentially the same game as the last iteration - except in all honesty the gameplay has took a minor step back and the additions to the title

The problem with it is the lack of innovation throughout for a good three years now; it is essentially the same game as the last iteration - except in all honesty the gameplay has took a minor step back and the additions to the title are by and large gimmicky and pointless.

The biggest problem by some way, however, is that Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 has came from out of nowhere, shrugged off the habit of being woeful every year and is comfortably the better actual football game of the two. While FIFA does have the nice bells and whistles if licencing and stadia etc., it really does get its' arse handed to it on a plate by PES in terms of actual gameplay - and gameplay is always king with sporting titles.

That said, FIFA Ultimate Team is far, far superior to PES's MyClub, so if that's the mode for you, you'll be best served sticking with FIFA - but be aware you'll be spending money on a feature that is built on gameplay that isn't as good as what you could be enjoying elsewhere.

It's impossible to review FIFA without mentioning PES, and vice versa, and the ultimate point of a review is to say which is the better game - and this year, without question, it's is PES. FIFA has a lot to do to regain the crown next year.

I have played fifa since 99. Fifa 16 is the worst so far.. The gameplay is broken. I have played 150 fut games, 50 online season and 3 seasons in career mode. I want it to be good beacuse i love Fifa so much! But this game is not fun to play! The passes are completely terrible and it is so full of strange things that happens all the time. Since fifa 13 the Fifa games have been bad..

It is satisfactory to see ball hogs without patience and knowledge of the game stumbling to shine. This enables more people who actually love the real sport and have wisdom of tactical gameplay to flourish and thrive. The game looks so much like real football that i was astounded at watching a champions league game and notice the game flowed very much like fifa 16. The AI is more intelligent than ever. Investing in a goalkeeper is actually worth it in career this year as is players you would never bother to try out. All because speed and acceleration have lost a lot of value. It makes the game as a whole a joy to play. I love the fact that this game encourages me to explore the many countries and leagues for hidden gems. The training aspect of this game makes it similar to an rpg where you work on certain attributes and increase their usefulness. Instead of using the same old 14 players on my team i focus a lot more on the lesser know players and it is great. This year players who are playing for their country actually leave and make you have to scramble for replacements on your team. It was a much needed feature. The commentating this year is superb and am greatful for the detail they capture on and off the pitch. I am actually playing all the modes as much as the next due to their polish this year even though i have a soft spot for manager mode. I cannot express how satisfied i am with this years fifa and am glad when a speedster transfers to Pes because that game is not what i want in a game or teammates. Fifa 16 is the best simulator game on ps4 if you are looking for realism and awarding moments like the real life game ,don't listen to the naysers and pick this gem up. The fundamental mechanics of the game are so frustrating that it's impossible to have any enjoyment, even when you're winning.
The primary subject of my ire is the passing. It doesn't work. At all. In an average game I end up exasperated that the player has passed to the wrong player at least 20-5 times, and this is just in 10 minutes. The players always seem to pass to the player furthest away and in the worst position, so that when I try short simple passes out of defence, instead I end up with attempted long passes down the pitch which are easily intercepted. You'd think that this would be easy to remedy, just put less power on the passes right? Wrong. This results in all passes being drastically underhit and again possession being lost as the player receiving the pass cannot be made to react to the terrible pass and come to the ball. Even on the rare occasions that the passes are played to the right player, they still end up being intercepted by virtue of the terrible accuracy. On numerous occasions I have tried to pass to players who were slightly covered by an opponent. For example, the intended player is in space, but an opponent is closing me down and is close to the line of an ideal pass. I tried to lead the pass away from the opponent, but the passing assist just plays it straight to the opponent. Maybe I expect too much as someone who has actually played football at a low level for 15 years, to think that a simulated professional footballer can make passes that amateur Sunday league players can. I tried turning on and off all the assistance on both through and standard passing, but there is no cure. The weight of pass is the most important thing in football, and FIFA 16 has kicked it to the wayside. Through balls are often overhit for absolutely no reason. The receiving player is in space, the player passing is unchallenged and bang he fizzes it miles past his target (who often stop or change their run as soon as i press the through ball button anyway) and an easy opportunity is wasted.
Eventually, with some luck, your pass will find someone on your team. A through ball might be played with a decent weight, but even now the problems are not over as the touch and dribbling mechanics are equally atrocious. Considering that this game is meant to represent professional athletes it's laughable ho most of them take about 5 minutes to just turn 180 degrees with the ball. The game is far too focused on 'skills' and tricks and has lost any reality that it once might have featured. Players apparently cannot change direction in under 5 seconds with the ball unless they perform some skill. I have tried just running without sprinting at all and the results were comically bad. If you try to cut inside a speeding defender by slowing down and turning sharply inside, your player will do the first part well, the defender will run by, but then instead of accelerating inside, your player will tentatively nudge the ball centremetres at a time until the defender you had just successfully beaten has managed to come back, rendering the whole operation completely pointless. It seems to me that FIFA has become too wrapped up in skill moves and looking cool, rather than producing a football simulation game. If you watch a real match then you are unlikely to see many tricks and skills on show, and even less likely to see any player who does so, do a skill move for any real advantage. Rhyad Mahrez Vs Stoke has been the only example all season, and yet EA seems to think that skill moves have to happen all the time and without them players cannot possibly change direction or take the ball past an opponent.
As well as the problems with changing direction, the first touch has become comical, especially when the ball is in the air. If the ball is bouncing you can forget about doing anything with it for at least a minute, or until you're inevitably tackled. It's reached the point where having a throw in is a disadvantage as even if you throw it to someone in acres of space, he will be tackled before he can control it because controlling a bouncing ball is apparently impossible. When the ball is on the ground the first touch is only slightly better. Receiving the ball from a pass and wanting to go in the other direction literally never ends well. All the problems I mentioned about changing direction are present, and this time you haven't got extra time because you've fooled a defender. Even receiving a through pass, going the right direction doesn't give satisfactory results as for some reason it takes about 2-3 touches for the player to get up to sprint speed, making the through pass pointless. I haven't tries many chip through balls, as it seemed very janky in the drills, but I imagine the bouncing ball slows the player down even more.
    Terrible game.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. In all honesty, FIFA 16 is not much different from it's younger sibling that is FIFA 15. Although EA have not brought much to the table, one of the biggest improvements is defending. It allows for the game to move more swiftly and fluently. Furthermore, one is no longer able to run through another individual's defence as people did in FIFA 15, which was just completely aids and made me shed a tear. Pace is also not too significant this year compared to the previous games, and other stats such as strength seem to play a more crucial role. This has been done so that no more twelve year olds can run down the wing with Theo Walcott and cross it into cheeky Remy who is lingering in the box.

In terms of Ultimate Team, FUT Draft is a disappointment. The reward for winning the initial four games you play in single player are not enough, however it does vary depending on the difficulty you pick.

Ultimately, FIFA 16 is a slightly improved game from it's predecessor and is a suitable game for a FIFA fan.

They have made enough changes that the gameplay feels new, more difficult to pass the ball, crossing/header feels different and the whole game is more physical. The menu's are still the same from last year, the tried and trusted modes like Ultimate Team, Pro Clubs & Online Seasons are still the same so don't go looking for many changes here.

The addition of the Draft Mode in FUT is a nice touch, enjoyable to play however the 15,000 coin entry will maybe put some people off later on.

Passing is horrible (as always) and the timing is awkward and looks unrealistic. It's as if the engine cannot cope with too much passing, so it will eventually mess up the passing if you are trying to build up a great attack.

Also the crosses is an absolute outrage, because the goalkeeper will either catch the ball og fist it away.

But the most annoying part and a complete nuisance is the CPU as it's constantly playing tiki-taka in the defense making it impossible to get the ball - very frustrating and boring.

In the end a very uninspiring game EA can't be proud of.

I will not be purchasing a Fifa game in the future.

There isn't a great deal of difference in terms of gameplay; besides the fact there is a significant change in the momentum and speed of the game; which for one, I believe has improved as it has levelled the playing field to some extent; which is probably why some people dislike it. "Pace" is no longer the only factor which has been the case for previous FIFA's, but there's a more physcial and passing element to the game which players will have to adapt and get used to. FIFA is an easy game to hate, which is why it receives so much, but it isn't as bad as the majority of 12 year old's claim it to be. I believe players need to see the big picture rather than just splurging a negative review without learning how to play the game properly. Expand

All the modes are the same as usual which is disappointing, they really don't care about any other mode than UT and probably never will.

Even though it is a good game it is coming to end of life unless they change the modes up.

It's way more balanced this year and scoring (for me anyway) seems to come from a range of different methods (grounded through balls, dribbling between defenders, crosses, long goals).
The AI is still atrocious, my biggest gripe; and penalties are too frequent (well they were at first, I feel like this has since been patched).

Passing is awful, the power and direction you press have no relevant on the actual pass the player attempts. Ive had full power passes come off players with the pace a snail and low power passes make it half way down the pitch. The passing system in this instalment was BROKEN no other word for it.

Tackling is worse and its even easier to get a penalty than before simply go into the box and rapidly change direction or trick trick and a tackle will almost always result in a penalty if done right.

The AI is awful through out the game, the runs are terrible, the amount of times they have run into my player is dreadful they part like the red sea in defensive positions.

The gameplay is practically the same as last year's FIFA, Career mode is similar with the exception of player training (which could have happened years ago), Pro Clubs is the EXACT same as FIFA 15 AND 14 ( this shows home little they care about the game mode), FUT is mostly the same as last year's with the exception of Draft.

Let me start by saying I only leave a review on this site If I think consumers are getting ripped off by a certain product. This Is to be my second every review, my last one was probably over a year ago so It's not like I'm a serial negative reviewer. I'm just trying to warn others.

This Is the second worst game ever made, I'd play Battlefield Hardline over this every day of the week and that was the other game I reviewed on here.

The game Is scripted, It's pre-determined you can't do anything to stop the computer winning a game If It wants to.

You can't do anything to stop online people winning against you, no matter how much better you play. That's also scripted to some extent.

I don't recall playing a match where the computer has less than 61% possession. That's supposed to be fun? Chasing AI for 60+ minutes of the game? It's almost Impossible to tackle them too and on the off chance you do manage to pull off a tackle 90%+ of the time it bounces off you and straight back to the opposite team.

It got to the point where I'd put my controller down, stop chasing and wait for the computer to lose the ball / miss a shot. It's a waste of your time chasing them.

Through balls will either go wide or the keeper will gather them before you get to the ball 100% of the time.

The opposition goalkeeper Is "God mode" you will rarely score.

Shooting Is way off, I've been playing Fifa's since 06 and I'm a prolific shooter of the ball In all of them. Not In this one though.

Player "ratings" mean nothing. Team Chemistry seems to actually make the game harder the higher It Is. Defenders with 50 pace will run twice as fast as your attackers with 90+ pace 100% of the time.

I can't even begin to get into the things that are wrong with this game, crossing, referees, passing, tackling goalkeeping, through balls, shooting.

I just pretty much listed everything to do with football, meaning everything about this game terrible.

It Is not enjoyable to play In the slightest, please If you're pondering getting this but you aren't sure. Heed my warning It's the worst Fifa ever made by a long, long shot. I've never played a PES but I'd play it one handed and blindfolded with watermelons stuffed up my butt before I tried this Fifa again and I'd no doubt enjoy It more too.

All this game Is is a brand nowadays. The "FIFA" brand and we all know how corrupt that lot are, this game Is just as corrupt as the people who run Fifa. No passion went Into making this game, i firmly believe the people who made this game were not football fans. It's merely a cash grab.

Had they been football fans It would have been a football game. Instead It's chase / lose the ball simulator 2016.

I could go on for days saying what's wrong with this game but It's Sunday and I should chill out. I might be back to add more to this review on another day yet though.

    Take care.

Started off promising, a slower game with more focus on passing and build up play with smarter ai so you actually have a midfield. Sounds good!. It's a shame that 16 falls short of what was expected as the idea is there its faulty mechanics that let it down and its painfully slow pace.

    PACE
Ok first off the pace of the game.....I always said it was over powered, always wanted a slower fifa but.......oh my god it's so frustrating to beat the back line only for them to catch you up in 2-3 seconds and tackle you. Pace is over powered but this time its in favor of the defender, defensive mistakes are not punished at all so don't even think about using skill moves as they are next to useless as the defender can recover extremely fast.

    DEFENDING
As I've already said, pace is on your side when defending making pace abuse far less of an issue this year the problem your most likely to find now is that defending is more of a 'mistake management' situation, what i mean is the ai defenders WILL let you down at some point, the controls WILL let you down at some point, your full backs WILL be out of position at some point, your tackle WON'T be enough (you need to tackle them 3-4 times to maybe win the ball back) "oh that's right by my keeper he can catch that.....WRONG! He will let you down at some point as well.

Defending when its working is great, its responsive and fast (although over powered), it's 40/60 with your ai team mates more often than not your pulling them into position yourself , top tip just do 'basic' defending and hope the ai doesn't let you down to much.

Ultimately there are going to be X amount of (big) mistakes per game made by the ai, if you cant stop your own team mates from f*cking up then you loose.

    PASSING
So far its a mixed bag, the R1 pass is awesome to deliver a fast direct ball to an attacker but the basic passing with X is shocking, very weak and poorly directed. I know that you wont place a good pass all the time and that's fine but with 16 its basically a gamble if your pass will work or not 40% of passes will not be the pass you attempt and of the 40% about 20% will be directly intercepted and 20% hit to hard/soft or slightly off target so there is a high chance of an easy tackle on you. I don't want to be randomly punished for passing in a game that's 80%-90% about passing and playing ' beautiful'.

    BALL CONTROL
By far my biggest gripe with 16 is how bad most players are at controlling the ball except for when they are sprinting at full speed, a HUGE problem that was fixed in fifa 14 them some how brought back into the game? you can sprint and turn very quick but if someone plays the ball to your feet and there is a defender within 10 yards you cant seem to be able to move? your only able to take little baby steps in any direction, why? just why? Also skill moves.........pointless sometimes they work sometimes they don't and if there is a defender anywhere near you then the 'exit' on the skill move sends the ball in random directions rendering the skill move its self POINTLESS (btw i have been using skill moves since fifa 11 so its not that i'm just awful at them)

    SHOOTING
I have no problem with shooting in 16, everything about it so far has been fine if i miss it's normally because I've shot to hard/soft etc but it feels good and seems like if i miss its because of a mistake i made with power/aim and not the games fault.

A few of the same problems are still there, ai doesn't seem to know there is a game of football going on or where the ball is, pace is now op for defenders etc but there are some new game breaking ones regarding the mechanics. Passing and using skill moves, two things that have been key to how i play fifa are now so bad that after spending the last 5 years as a division 1 player in fut and online seasons im struggling badly with div 2.
FIFA 14 has been the best for me so far, mechanics worked, pace was more balanced (still very fast but you couldn't just sprint and turn with ease) and i could play a slow passing game without being punished for actually passing.

Not a single change since FIFA15. Career mode is even worse because of the new transfer system IMO. Servers are still a real mess. Nothing else to say about this FIFA update.

I like the changes they made. You CAN play very up-tempo if you got used to it. You don't even need a 5-star squad to play fluently. Though you will need some practice to do so... Is it worth 60 euro? Not every year for sure.

FIFA 16 is the worst edition of the series in years. The gameplay is extremely slow, dull, and at times ridiculously unrealistic. FIFA 16 favours those who hate good football.

This game is good coming from a handheld FIFA game player, from the presentation and stadium licensees, the only downside is the gameplay in terms of AI is not working great on your side but against you is pretty good. I think people don't like because is pretty much the same as previous FIFA PS4 releases but for a first-time player on a bigger console is pretty good and addictive to play.

After the update patches, the game again regained the spot as the great soccer game that usually is. They corrected the penalties, the tempo, the speed of the players... now it's good. Unfortunely, the damage has already been made.

Downhill enterprise. Need to stick to 1 gameplay/mechanics system. You update it every year as if you reinvent the wheel. Football is football. Don't alter how the game is played, improve visuals, immersiveness and perhaps techniques/controls but not the game. Im going to sell 14,15 and 16 now and buy PES16. See what all the fuss is about. Apparently a lot better than Fifa, i will review later.

The game looks the same. They've fixed lob through balls, but now nearly each contact (even without pressing the tackle button) in the penalty box ends as a penalty. Pathetic EA... 2 games 6 penalties in a row and nearly 1 penalty per game overall. Nothing like a real match.

I have solely made an account to give a review to FIFA 16. Let me start by saying I've been buying the video game since FIFA '08 and frankly I've never been so disappointed with FIFA. For me it feels that this game has lost its technical aspect of playing FIFA and the number of players I face which just pass to fast players run and shoot has become to many to count and once again FIFAI have solely made an account to give a review to FIFA 16. For me it feels that this game has lost its technical aspect of playing FIFA and the number of players I face which just pass to fast players run and shoot has become to many to count and once again FIFA Ultimate Team proves that it is all about pace, no matter how good you are there is always someone out there with just pace and ultimately shoot and score. The number of mistakes happening, fouls and penalties being given is just retarded. The amount of times that the ref will give a foul/penalty without you doing anything will have you wanting to throw the controller. Ultimately this FIFA has been a disappointment after giving it a go for 2-3 months. Hopefully the next one will be an improvement, but sadly this one has been so bad in so many aspects. Expand

FIFA 16 is yet another disappointment in what once was a very good football game. EAs lazyness and lack of creativity means that your playing the same core game since FIFA 12 only with updated rosters and team kits, as it stands PES 2016 is taking back the reigns in style and FIFA is falling behind rapidly.

in my opinion FIFA this year is very good because the way how the football flows it seems like a realistic game of football because of all the slow build up play but then again it just looks the same every year like gameplay wise nothing really changes to be honest.

EA have noticed this, and now the game mode is totally built around trying to get you to spend money on FIFA points. Honestly it should be criminal.

There are no redeeming features to this game. Usually I put hundreds of hours into FIFA, playing thousands of games. This year I gave up completely before Christmas - and I know many others have said the same thing.

FIFA 15 was a huge disappointment for me and instead of playing it for a year (like I used to do with previous renditions) I buried it on the shelf right after I finished a bitter review. FIFA 16 showed up at my door with flowers and we worked things out. Casual gamer may not notice all the tweaks (i.e. more responsive defenders and better AI), but for me they were invaluable as they helped to rebalance the gameplay and made the game enjoyable again.
