This is a special game that I am just having a blast with and I haven't even gone online yet. I have 8 hours into the SP and it's so fun! I know everyone is up in arms over DLC. I think it's very important everyone understands this is the way the industry operates. There is nothing you can do to stop this. Just speak with your wallet and do not buy the DLC if it's a problem for you. There will always be the rich family or well off gamer that will buy the DLC. It's never going to stop so let's just move on.

The game itself is very well done and polished. It's great to get Evolve and The Order 1886 in the same week and them completely solid without bugs compared to other games in this current generation. I have heard that there are some issues with the online community so my son and I have just been playing the SP. I will give MP a try later on after I have completely mastered all the hunters, monsters and maps. That will eliminate the not so friendly gamers from ruining my online experience.

We just unlocked the Kraken and are going for the Support robot hunter named Bucket. He looks amazing and has the flying sentries that we are very interested in. Really had a nice gaming moment playing as the support hunter. Val was getting destroyed I shot her with my shield projector saving her. The Wraith was going crazy on her but she was protected and lived through it. I am really enjoying the leveling/unlock process as it give you something to work for.

The graphics are very good, not The Order 1886 good but I am very pleased with them. The mechanics and game play are obvously from a stellar studio that's been round the block. The game is very balanced and technically sound. It's really fun following Daisy to the monster and trying to use the hunters abilities to take the monster down. The Trapper has been great using the orbital bombardment, shield projector and the cloak. There is a lot of strategy that is in play here. Following Daisy and then when you feel you are close cloaking the team and then trying use the orbital bombardment!

The monsters are very well done and easy to control. There is some amazing game play options with the monster. Evolving is really fun and allows you to become very powerful. Lots of options for wild life and with all the new maps and mode being offered free there is nothing to complain about. Turtle Rock has done it again. Now we just need to get them to make L4D3! Hopefully more people pick this game up as it deserves the sales.

I'd rate this game a 9 but gave it a 10 because of all the fake hate reviews from people who have obviously not played the game. Let me start off by going over what others have said.

I'd rate this game a 9 but gave it a 10 because of all the fake hate reviews from people who have obviously not played the game. Let me start off by going over what others have said.

    - "There's no variation, the DLC practices are an abomination and there's not enough content." --- Wow, this must be someone who only played the beta and read what others said about the DLC. There are multiple modes to this game. Besides playing online with others or solo with the bots, you have multiple modes like Rescue, Nest, Defend, and Hunt. You can play each individually across all the maps (Defend has it's own four maps), or in Extraction where you play across five game days (matches) where maps, modes, and bonuses are never the same. I don't need to go into detail because you can find details on all this on IGN, Gamespot, or any other gaming site.

The DLC is just skins. You are not buying new weapons or characters for the game. You get three boss monsters and twelve hunters with a lot of variety. I unlocked all the hunters over a couple of days and am working to level them up and unlock more perks. I love having all the choices, depending on what mode I'm playing. I also like each class is different and how you have to work together. You have your Support, Medic, Assault, and Trapper classes. It's more like Battlefield 4 than Left 4 Dead with how the classes work. The three monsters are very different too. You have to use different tactics against each monster. When fighting as the monster, you can pick you abilities and level them up based on the mode you are playing.

With the 12 maps, 3 Monsters, 12 hunters, multiple modes, and random bonuses in Extraction, the game always feels different. Again, you can get better at playing the game by just going up against the bots. They play as well as they did in Left 4 Dead.

    - "You buy the game for 60 dollars and then need to spend even more money to enjoy the game to its fullest" --- Not sure what game you bought for $60 and had to spend more to enjoy it, but it wasn't Evolve. I'm having more than enough fun with this game. I've played all the modes online and with the bots. I have no desire to buy any skins and you are not being forced to buy any of it. Why does everyone keep complaining about it? Remember the horse armor in Oblivion? I bought it because it made my horse look cool. I didn't complain about it because it was optional. Doesn't change the game in any way. Stop all the talk about the DLC.

There is another Monster and four more characters coming out in a few months. The Season Pass is $24.99 and will pay for this content. Do you have to buy it? No! The developer has stated that you will be able to play against the monster in your game and will see the other characters in games. You will just not be able to play them yourself unless you buy them. If you don't buy them, you are not being cut off from all the other players. It's not like COD where someone else buys the maps, but you can't play them now because you don't have the maps. This will not happen with Evolve. They stated that any new maps will be free. Myself, I'm going to get the Season pass when the new content is ready to be released. I'm really enjoying the game.

    - " is a mediocre first person shooter (surprise surprise!) that brings nothing new to the genre" --- Where have you played a game like this before? I really feel like I'm out on a hunting trip in Jurassic Park! I have a blast. Sometimes we get to the monster early and kill it and other times we are hunting until it reaches level 3 and we head it of at the base. I do think they have some balancing to do, but they have already stated that they are working on this. I'm still having a great time with the game. I'm trying to level up each of the hunters now.

    -----------------------------

Take time to read some reviews from sites like IGN or Game Informer. They have been playing the game for some time now and have even had play time with the developers. I'll believe what Ryan McCaffrey says over someone who is just bashing the game because they think there is a DLC issue or not enough content. Looking at most of the user reviews, it looks like people are just trying to bring down the score without even really trying the game.

Read real reviews for more info on the game. That is why I decided to buy it. It is really different from the other games I've played. The graphics are top notch and really put you into that world. With the day one patch, load times are better than they were in the beta. This is one game that is really getting a raw deal from users just looking for something to bash. The more I play it, the more I'm enjoying it. You can't play this like COD or just any other shooter. You need to pick the right hunter for the mode you are playing and monster you are fighting.

(Sorry for any grammar or spelling problems. I just typed this up and didn't proof it. I just want to get home and play more Evolve!)

The game is great, got if for 38$ on PC and runs flawlessly on my now a few year old machine.

DLC...I don't care, it's mostly cosmetic and it does not affect the gameplay. Compared to what other games charge for skins it's pretty comparable in price.

The maps and modes are FREE.

You will never forget playing this game. This is an experience you should not miss. There is no other game that conveys the atmosphere, excitement, and overall gaming experience of Evolve. Don't miss out just because of the weird negative hype - that has nothing to do with the actual game.

Pacing and the transitions from hunt to battle are phenomenal; I love the sense of tracking a giant monster through dark forests or snowy blizzards, intent on the chase but equally fearful that at any moment the beast will turn and ambush the Hunters. Urgency and suspense drive the early gameplay whether as the Hunters trying to track and cut off the monster before it can evolve and become even more dangerous, or as the Monster trying to race ahead, feed, double-back, hide, throw off pursuit knowing that a team of four is hunting you...until you are strong, and whirl, and descend on them like rage and storm.

And then suddenly it is a wild, brutal, and deeply tactical battle for both sides, comboing abilities, intrinsic teamwork abilities, utilizing map and environment advantage (the maps are wonderful and vertical and full of different moments and opportunities), and then perhaps the chase is on again, as either side attempts to flee and disengage and lick their wounds before picking their time and place once more. The transitions from hunt to battle to chase to final stand, however they play out, are always dynamic and interesting and wild fun.

Abilities differ enough between hunter characters to let you find the one that best fits your play style or team composition, while still all reinforcing the basic class role of that character on the team. Monsters fill the classic archetypes of melee, ranged, and stealth to let you pick your favorite brand of mayhem, and each is equally capable of fight or flight in unique ways.

The strategic depth increases the more you play, as you begin to consider better ways to utilize the maps, combo abilities, isolate hunters, or cut off the monster's retreat. Win or lose, every round is fun and exciting. Either team could win at any time.

There is offline solo play with competent bots, big points for that.
There is also a full color instruction manual in the box; this is how you know it was made with true gamer love.

DLC? Guess what? At launch, DLC literally does not exist. Lot of fuss about content that has yet to be made. You can preorder DLC if that's your thing, but stop worrying about whether or not you want DLC, you don't need it. Play the game. There are plenty of characters to choose from and plenty of game, and in the heat of battle and the thrill of the chase, all that matters is that you are either hunter or hunted...and in the end, everyone is both, and that's what makes it fantastic.

There is no other gaming experience like this. And you should absolutely experience it. Ignore the negatively; play the game because gaming is about new and fascinating games, not about whining about marketing. Evolve.

All the negativity scared me a bit at first because this was a game that I was really looking forward to. But I put all the negativity aside and did some research of my own, I also read/viewed various reviews and feedback from people playing the game. I bought the game and I have not regretted my decision for a second. This is one of the games lately that I am truly enjoying, and have been playing non stop for hours. It was a steep learning curve, but when you start to get a grip of the basics you will be rewarded so. I have come to a stage with games where i love real challenges and not a game that I understand the minute I start to play.

This game is not something you will master over the first days of playing, this game is different every time you play, and you learn new things every time. You will experience unique situations that will only happen once. It is a dynamic game that has a lot of potential to be a game that will last for decades. But you need to be prepared to have an open mind to learn on your way and adapt to the every new challenges the games give you.

    - IT DOSEN'T GET OLD! I play it for 20 hours now. And i don't played with all characters yet. Because i want to master every class and character. I think every pick is worth at least 20 hours to play with, to know which is the best way to win the match.

    - Every match is different! For example, playing as a monster, you are constantly under pressure. Sometimes they find you in seconds, sometimes you can escape fast, somtimes you have to hide or be aggressive and so on. Do you kill the Medic first or do you kill the Trapper to escape from the dome? Do you kill the hunters or do you destroy the relais?

    - You have much Value. Other games like the Order have 6 hours of gameplay for 60 Bucks. This Game has no real campaign. Thats right and I love campaigns but this game was never meant to be a singleplayer game. What about Titanfall, or Plants vs Zombies GW. But thats okay. They are perfect for what they where build. And when you know this and you like to play a really deep multiplayergame, than youre right on this one.

    - YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR DLCs TO PLAY THIS GAME! I preordered it and pay 47€ for the Copy and the DLC Monster plus Skins. I don't know what people talk about the price. Do you ever think about how much you pay when you buy all the elder scrolls DLCs, or Gears of War or Call of Duty and so on? You don't have to pay them. The most DLCs are cosmetic. You can also play with people who pay for the extra Monster. This is a problem in other Shooters, but not in Evolve!

I really wish they make an another evolve in 2 years!

Excellent game that gets better the more you play it. At First Monsters feel like a great feat to take down, but group up with a well coordinated team and its fun and challenging. Its not skill like Call of Duty, its skill as in tactics, timing, and communication that make this a superior shooter game. Best part is if you feel like going solo you can still have just as much fun as the monster.

As far as the dlc drama goes, the expansion monsters and hunters are not necessary at all since TRS makes sure everything is balanced to a 50% win rate. The prices are the same you'd pay for a map pack in other games only this time, a monster or a hunter changes the gameplay way more than a lousy map pack would and are worth it, but again not necessary. Also, all new maps and modes will be free as the dev has taking great care to ensuring the commmunity stays unfragmented.

Going back to the game, once you cut through the lies fed by this angry internet mob, TRS is incredibly open about this amazing game that I have no doubt will keep me entertain for a long long time. I very much enjoy the gameplay of Evolve, with it's cat and mouse style of asymmetrical game-play where four players play FPS style hunters and one player plays a videogame boss type monster. Many criticize the game for lack of content, but I think it's better to have a small amount of very well balanced weapons/characters than many overpowered and useless additions to a game.

For anyone new and unfamiliar and looking for the be-all-end-all review, here it is. There's also an explanation of this dlc controversy.

GAMEPLAY: You have a team of four hunters, well... hunting a monster! You can choose to be either a medic, assault, trapper (who tracks and traps the monster), and support. Or for lone wolves, you can be the monster. This division is pretty great because teamwork is important in winning as hunters, but if you're a lone wolf type you can play as a monster. There are 12 hunters to choose from, 3 from each class, along with 3 monsters. No monster or hunter is better than the others, they're all balanced and will continue to be balanced to a 50% win rate. Not only this, the maps are filled with wildlife that may try to kill you. The monster has to eat animals to get stronger, while the hunters have to try and kill it before it gets too strong. In the beginning of a typical 15 minute game, the hunters are stronger and the monster is stage 1 and has to run and hide until he gets stronger. Towards the middle, the monster is probably up to stage 2 and is now about even with the hunters. Stage 3 monsters are very hard to take down. It's a game of strategy, hunting, and ambushes! There are other objectives on the map and game modes as well that I haven't even scratched the surface of what you can do.

GRAPHICS AND SOUND: It's one of the most beautiful next gen games. There is no Ps3 or Xbox 360 version so they really had the opportunity to push the graphics. You need to use your ears as a hunter to find the monster, so the sound is suitably awesome and detailed with wildlife, guns, and environmental sounds.

MULTIPLAYER AND SINGLEPLAYER: The online matchmaking has improved greatly since the alpha and beta builds. This is no Halo MCC! It works great and only gets better with only a few launch hiccups that should pass. If you're a single player, there is no story mode since they didn't go the Battlefield or COD approach and tack on a shallow story mode. BUT! You can play every mode, map, monster and hunter that you have with Bots! And boy are these bots smart. So if you're ever out of internet, fire the bots up and keep playing! Oh btw, teamwork is always extremely important for hunter survival!

LONGEVITY: Most shooting games out there right now end up with you using your same favorite gun running around on the same few maps. More maps never really change much. But in Evolve, there is, in my opinion coming from the PC game Natural Selection 2 which is kinda like this, infinite replayability in hunting or being hunted. The characters are so diverse with different abilities and strategies to them that hunting human beings, ambushing them, and attacking them will always be fresh for you.

DLC Controversy: Gamers are a strange bunch. We churn out $15 or more for COD maps and Battlefield Premium, season passes galore for every game. But suddenly people have a problem paying money for Evolve DLC. Let's get some facts straight down here:

    1. No day 1 DLC. Nothing is locked on the disk, since the new characters haven't even been fully made yet. All future maps and modes will be free so as not to fragment the community
    2. No future hunters or monsters are necessary to buy, they will not be stronger or better than what you have. They'll be balanced just like the rest.
    3. Future monsters and hunters, if you don't get a bundle which you always should, will cost $15 per monster or $7.50 for hunters. A whole new balanced, animated, voiced, character for the price of a map pack? I'm in!
    4. Yea you can buy skins. I like skins. You don't? Then don't buy them. Simple!

In my opinion, new monsters and hunters drastically change the gameplay far more than the map packs we buy for other games. I bought all the BF4 maps with Premium and that cost me almost $50! Paying for a new monster or hunter that completely changes the gameplay is worth much more than DLC in other games. And heck maps are free and if you don't buy these new characters, you'll still get to play against them! There is no community fragmentation. You don't need to buy them to be successful at all.

What gamers did was basically attack a perfectly good game because the hate DLC. Even though DLC is in every game now. Why did they have to attack such a unique game as Evolve that tries to break new ground? Because gamers are full of misinformation and too much emotion. This is the same reason that they can barely make any headway against greedy publishers. Attack Evolve, but continue to buy yearly bug ridden COD or Assassins creed along with all the DLC. Smart!

If you need more info, go to the TRS official forums. The devs have been open and involved with everything and have been extremely responsive since they first announced the game. If you're confused or still undecided, go there rather than be exposed to the misinformation campaign by some gamers giving Evolve bad reviews. Do yourself a favor and buy this amazing experience

Anyways on to my review.

Now To start, the detail is amazing. The shadows and lighting blend perfect. The detail they put into the monsters is truly a gaming marvel. The game play is even better. Taking what a lot of the haters here are complaining about, you have to be on a competent team in order to be successful. If your on a team of hunters and your Medic or your Trapper are screwing off or are inexperienced, you will have a tough time. But if you have friends, or are just smart about how you matchmake (Don't get stuck with a bunch of noobs, obviously.) you'll be just fine. On to the monster.. This can be a bit frustrating.. But overall my experience with the monster has been positive. If you can just get down a good mix of stealth and forging for wildlife to evolve it can be fun, but get cornered early and your toast.

All in all, Evolve is a perfect 10. Its an original concept, there is plenty of buffs and characters/monsters to unlock to keep you busy for 50+ hours which in my opinion is worthy of my $65.

The gameplay is fast an refreshing, the atmosphere is great and you actually get paranoid playing as monster (same for hunters when monster reaches stage 3). The variety is great, just compare it to LoL, even if may seems repetitively. Every game feels different and that's great. The only argueable point is the dlc system. Buying skins is ok and it doesn't affect the gameplay. The only thing that bothers me are the new monsters and hunters coming in the future and that you aren't able to unlock them unless you pay for them. Why isn't there some kind of ingame currency for buying them with "playtime"?

Nonetheless EVOLVE is great game and you can enjoy it even more with friends. It's super fun to play and the asymetric gameplay is quite refreshing. I would rate it a 8.5 but because of all the **** reviews of people not giving it a real try I'll give a 10.

A new franchise into a genre that is frankly becoming a little stale. I have been gaming for a good 15 years, and to get to experience something fresh and masterful at what it is, is a real treat.

    -- GAMEPLAY--

4 vs 1. 4 human controlled classes with each class having three unlockable characters that all differ in playstyle dramatically. We have the standard 'assault', damage dealer with a personal shield. 'Medic', healer and integral to your groups survivorbility, a smart medic player is essential to a groups success. 'Support', beams a laser like shield on other team mates providing armour, or litters the battlefield with gun turrents that ravage the monster. Lastly the 'trapper', in my opinion the most important team member in the early stages when the player is able to smartly "dome" the monster and litter the ground with harpoons so the group can deal that all so important early damage.
    MONSTERS UNITE
We have three playable monsters at the outset, all differ in playstyles and all posses an arsenal that match the early overwhelming odds.
Goliath - Savage melee and a hefty armour pool give this guy and edge in the later game stages, but early on in the games progression he is extremley vunerable to damage
Kraken - More of a long range beast, who can also take to the skies and rain down electrified damage. A smart Kraken player is near impossible to stop in the later stages.
Wraith - The delicate deadly flower of the bunch. Armed with a low armour and health pool compared to her comrades, she is much more tempered to the more cunning of moster players. Fantastic melee options and abilities like abduction reward a clever player and provide some of the best thrills in gaming,

    Graphics and sound
CRISP - Everything graphically in the game is well thought out and detailed, from the lockers in your **** to the lilypads that float in water in the ridgelines. Characters burst on screen with pop that each individually belongs to them.
Sound design is essentially one of the games strongest elements. From the sounds of birds being disturbed, tree's cracking and getting knocked over, weapons firing, Monster evolving and letting out a guttural roar, everything is in place and expertley delivered.

    Replayability
AND NOTHING WAS THE SAME. This game is riddled so deeply with strategy that its a little confronting. What's your monster play at the begining of a match? Do you simply burst and try to get enough space in between the hunters and yourself leaving your tracks for all to see ? Do you feint going one direction whilst crawling back over your tracks and going the other.
Hunters are no exception either, does the group splinter off into two's to cover more ground, do i pick ceratin characters that have different skill sets to support the group? The monster has just turned stage 3, do we try to seek them out whilst they have no armour, or head to the power relay and prepare as best as possible, laying mines and placing turrets.

Thats the true beauty to Evolve, and the reason this game is already near and dear to my heart. Come into this game with an open mind for a different experience, and an understanding that it plays most differently to others and requires understanding and adaptability on the players behalf, and you will not regret it.

Here's my review of evolve after about 10 hours or so playing:

First, my score is 8/10, but like others, I wish to balance out the odd ratings this game is getting.

First off, the monster is everything I hoped it would be. You start off weak, and stealth is the name of the game. I didn't really truly appreciate how to play a monster until I played a hunter and saw just how they track the beast. Sneak past the birds (so you don't scare them and give away your position) and make sure you keep your distance as you feed. It's a real rush if the hunters corner you while you're still at evolve level one because, unless you're very good, you aren't going to survive a straight up brawl with them. I lost several matches as the monster initially because I hadn't figured out the balance between stealth, distance and when to strike. Of course, one way to offset this initial weakness is putting 3 points into a single skill in the beginning to give yourself a bit of oomph if you DO get into some trouble. You definitely feel the power as you evolve. By the time you hit level 3, you feel like you're some sort of Kaiju superbeast.

Speaking of evolving up: If you play as the monster, you're given 3 skill points to divide into 4 skills. Each time you evolve you're given an addition 3 points to put into these skills. In order to unlock perks and other monsters, you need to fulfill certain skill requirements. For example, in order to unlock the next monster, the Kraken, I had to do X amount of damage with Flame breath, charge, smash and rock throw over the course of several matches. It actually didn't take that long and I expected far worse. The controls, at least on the PS4 seem fluid and combat is pretty easy to control. I guess my only gripe is that I wish you could climb up cliffs that serve as the "wall" of the level because sometimes as I was running for my life, i tried to climb up a cliff that I thought was climbable only smack into it Wile E. Coyote style---but this is a minor gripe.

The monsters play quite differently as well. I only have 2 of the 3 unlocked, but there definitely is a big difference between say, the Goliath and the Kraken. With the Goliath, I feel like I'm probably as close as I'm going to get to playing a Tyranid Carnifex or an Ultralisk. You're beefy, you pack a punch and little is as satisfying as charging through a group of hapless hunters and then throwing a rock on them. The Kraken on the other hand can fly, is great at escaping and does insane amounts of AOE damage. I'm not sure which one I like better at this point--I switch out between them.

All that being said, playing as the hunters is a bit of a yawn for me. While there are certain aspects that I like--the tracking is pretty cool. You can follow monster footsteps, you get alerted to carrion birds to help track the monster's position and the actual fighting with the monster is intense, but it just doesn't live up the amount of fun that I have playing the monster itself. I do get the feeling that playing with friends as the hunters is probably a **** ton of fun, because teamwork is everything. I just played a game where I nearly took out the team as a level one monster because they were morons and split up. I've won the last 5 matches as a monster without evolving past level 2 (which sets you even with the hunters in terms of power--level 3 is where you start exceeding what they can do) because of the lack of coordination between hunters. That being said, I expect that to get better once people have a bit more play time with the game.

Is it worth $60? Eh, hard to say. Maybe? I'll probably side on the "no" side, but I'm not going to deny that the game, at least the as the monster delivers on the fun. If I didn't have to study, I'd spend the rest of the day playing it. The DLC now is pretty much all cosmetic and really shouldn't detract you from buying the game.

TLDR: 8/10 for fantastic monster combat, playing as hunters is a bit "meh"

The other option for them is to probably delay it another month. Most games have a day one patch, this isn't anything new. There is a story, it has a 5 day campaign with 800,000 possible outcomes of bonus effects and game modes so in that there are 800,000 campaigns. Each monster is completely different and unique, has strengths and weaknesses. Each hunter feels badass in it's own way.

All in all, all the haters out there complaining about DLC and "Pay to Win" have not even played the game and are full of crap. The hype train is real my friends and they are just jealous!

No other game offers the feel of Evolve, and the more that you play the deeper and more rewarding the experience gets. 60 dollars is a heckuva price tag, but unlike other AAA titles (all of which are getting more expensive now) Evolve does something new, and it does it well. Good games have a great sense of rising and falling action, often including four or five different skirmishes before the final fight happens - but there's always the lingering threat that if you are not on top of your game, one side or the other will end the game immediately. First, the entire game is something extremely new and innovative! With that alone I believe it deserves to be respected by the community. And much like all the nay sayers out there I was very upset over the entire DLC scandal but I still wanted to give it a chance. The fact that the user score is a 4.4 really upsets me because I know someone who was on the fence about purchasing the product would shy away after seeing these reviews, except this game is AMAZING!! I have never written a review or posted a comment anywhere on the internet, but Evolve has been getting such a bad wrap I know I need to defend it, especially after having such an amazing time playing. Like I mentioned before it is so innovative and fresh!! That's what caught me first! Then the depth really pulled me in. Even though there are only 3 characters in every class, everyone plays extremely different especially depending on the rest of team. Add in HUGE maps with living environments filled with man eating plants and packs of savage alien wolves and you get an experience like no other. People can whine all they want to about DLC and unfortunately we live in a world driven by the dollar, but I defend the fact that Evolve is sold for $60. By no means should it be free to play, especially when you consider the team of developers that put in an insane amount of their time to produce such a fantastic polished product. The game is perfectly balanced and the servers worked great on day one and some people find it ok to give the game a 2. A freakin 2!!! The insensitivity and ignorance! Play the game! Sink your teeth into it! I can barely find the time to write this review because I don't want to stop playing! With all that said, if you're looking for a fresh new experience in a genre that is so overdone in the wrong way with an immersive tactical combat system and one of the best multiplayer experiences the new generation of systems has to offer buy evolve now! If you refuse to purchase games that offer DLC and let that hinder you from experiencing something new and awesome or want to jump on the bandwagon of witch hunters ready to burn something at the stake feel free to read the rest of the reviews and believe them. With all that being said I wholly believe Evolve will remain one of my favorite games of all time for years to come with or without DLC and should be tried by everyone. Expand

There is a lot of anger about Evolve because the DLC fiasco, but that does not have a lot to do with the quality of the game itself. Even a level 1 monster can tease the hunters and pinpoint the strong and weak players. The monster can then lead the hunters to an area of the map where the monster has the advantage and 'get trapped' by the hunters only to turn the table on them. In other words, its a deep game if you're willing to treat it like a deep game.

There are numerous people enjoying this game immensely and by consequence don't feel the need to take time out of their 'busy' lives to give a crappy review to something they haven't given a chance. The fact remains people are hating on this game cause they think they're entitled for some reason to more content than was initially delivered with the first purchase. Why they feel this way is beyond me. They're not entitled to anything, let alone this extra content. It annoys me to no end how people are complaining about not having access to paid dlc when they apparently don't like the game in the first place. To make matters worse, it wont affect your game play at all. You will still be able to play against new Hunters and Monsters, all of which will give no advantage just a different playing experience. These people need to go back to playing Call of Duty and stop ragging on a company that has delivered a quality product, one that I haven't enjoyed as much in years. It's an intelligent, tactical game and a far branch away from the mindless first person shooters that are released year after year. There are constant adjustments being made to balance game play and given the quality of the end product I am happy to pay extra for the new hunters. I even got the new monster free cause I pre-ordered the game. 2k and Turtle Rock have been more than generous and still we have beggars feeling they're entitled to more, purely because it exists. This has contributed to a culture where people aren't giving the game a chance at all because of all the people whining. It's a downright shame as I would have a lot more faith in the direction gaming was going in general if people veered away from the next shoddy shooter title that will be released and played something that requires a little more thought like this. Playing by yourself doesn't do the core gameplay justice because it leaves out the most important aspect, team-work.This game is an absolute blast, like fighting a raid boss over and over again but much less scripted. The AI is excellent, and smart almost to a fault, but they cannot replace the sheer fun you will have coordinating attack plans with your crew of hunters. If you play by yourself it is very much just another FPS with some out-of-the-ordinary mechanics, but that's like playing L4D or an MMO by yourself. Friends make the experience fonder, and with such a huge gaming community rooted already in the fresh soils of Evolve, there is no shortage of players looking for a human companion to track monsters with. Campaigns in multiplayer games have become trite and boring, so I applaud them for building character more through random dialogue encounters throughout play without making us suffer through a sub-par campaign. There IS a "story" mode to speak of, but it works identical to Titanfall in that you are really just playing a string of multiplayer matches with AI instead of humans. Nothing much to speak of there, but honestly if you're looking for that brand new multiplayer fix, don't let the odd cluster of game bashers dissuade you, this is it. 9/10 Expand

The original developers of L4D are back with a new game and it's pretty damned good. Much like their previous game, the focus is on co-operative teamwork and is best experienced with friends. You can play with random people online, but this can be frustrating if you get stuck with people that refuse to use their mics or don't play their role.
The basic premise is akin to Alien. You and your fellow hunters must track and dispose of an alien that is reeking havoc on a colony planet. You can play as one of 12 hunters who are separated into 4 unique classes. Assault - the damage dealer, medic - the healer, support - pretty self-explanatory, and the trapper who is responsible for tracking down the monster. Within each class there are 3 different characters, all with their own unique abilities. For example, one medic has a healing gun and must try and keep everyone alive. Another one lacks the healing gun but can revive fallen teammates that would otherwise be dead and have to wait 2 minutes to respawn. And the third healer has a healing grenade launcher instead of a beam which is weaker, but has an area of effect.
And then of course there's the monsters. This is an asymmetrical game, 4 vs 1. The monster isn't controlled by AI but instead is controlled by an actual person. There are 3 monsters to choose from. Goliath, much like the tank in L4D. He's a big lumbering monster that's quite strong. Kraken, who can fly. And Wraith, the sneaky assassin. Each monster starts out rather weak and must avoid the hunters while also killing and eating wildlife. Eating wildlife increases your armor and will eventually allow you to evolve, or level up. You can evolve twice, getting stronger each time. Some wildlife will also provide you with temporary buffs, such as increased damage or more stamina. These buffs can also be picked up by the hunters, so make sure not to leave their bodies uneaten. The monsters each have four abilities that you can choose how you want to level. Maybe you'll just make 2 of your powers stronger, not even opening up your fourth ability. Or maybe you'll balance them all out to allow more variety in your attacks.
There's a couple of different game modes. Hunt is the basic mode. In this mode, the hunters simply need to kill the monster. The hunter has more options. He can try to kill all the hunters, but if one survives and gets away for long enough, the dead hunters will respawn. Or if the monster gets to level 3, he can try and take out the hunters power station. The monster will be at it's strongest at this point, but the hunters will know exactly where he'll be.
There's a campaign mode of a sort. Evac mode will go through 5 rounds. Some of those rounds will be the basic hunt mode and some of them will be either rescue or nest. The final round is always Evacuation. Nest and rescue are much alike but with each side switching roles. In nest the monster must defend his eggs. Rescue has the hunters finding human survivors and escorting them to dropships while the monster tries to kill them. And Evacuation has the hunters defending 3 power relays, one after the other against a stage 3 monster who now also has some level 1 minion goliaths.
With each match, the winner will get an advantage in the next round. Maybe the monster will successfully defend his eggs. This will lead to his minions having more armor than normal.
Although the focus of this game is online, there is a single player option that plays just like the online, but with bots filling in. The game is pretty light on story, but makes up for it with interesting character dialogue that fleshes out the hunters. And the atmosphere is great. Feels like a good sci-fi movie (like the previously mentioned Alien, though maybe not as serious or dark).
Character progression is achieved through using a characters abilities. The game starts you with one monster and one hunter from each class. Progression doesn't take all that long though. If it's your primary goal, then you can unlock the next character in one or two round of the basic hunt mode. Progression also continues after unlocking characters by giving you more perks to choose from and slight improvements to your abilities.
I was a huge fan of the L4D series and this game has a very similar feel. The winner isn't decided by who has the quickest reflexes but rather by using strategy (and teamwork if your playing as hunters).
With all the different hunters, monsters, and perks - there's plenty of re-playability to be had. Plus there's 12 different maps to play on.
And now for the required clarification on DLC. If you want every single piece of content currently available, it will cost you. However, all the DLC right now is purely cosmetic. There's a season pass, of course, which will provide new hunters, monsters and some skins. You are not required to buy it though. All new maps and game modes will be free.

Yes there is a lot of DLC for this game but its all cosmetic and effects game play in no way. what this game does include is 12 very detailed maps. 12 different hunters all falling into one of four classes all have a unique play style. and 3 monsters that are all very different and insanely fun. the 4 vs 1 is tense and rewarding and different each time.

The graphics are beautiful, dark and brooding, and varied between the environments with awesome weather effects and smooth framerates at all times. The game's audio is also an absolute delight, varying between tense and gripping tracks to bombastic and powerful as required, and when a Stage 3 Goliath hurls a boulder or leap-smashes the Hunters, you don't just hear it, you feel it. Evolve really is one of those games that I can give my opinion on, but it feels entirely subjective and may be entirely different for you. There is, of course, some many mistakes, like the dlc on day one, but the game as itself bring so much fun that you forget that!!!

Just give it time af first I hated the game but now I love it. As long as people play their role online you will be ok. I suggest to play the single mode for a day at least to get the hang of the game then go online to play this game.

First and for most alot of people seem to be confused about different thing about this game that i will clear up First this is not a Multiplayer only game it can be played offline without and internet connection , the Wraith and third tier of hunters are not dlc they are in the game all you have to do to get them is to unlock them, and lastly all future Map and Modes DLC will be free as to not split the community.

The game evolve has been one of the most orignal games I have seen in a long time and it pays off. out of the gate you are dropped into a harsh world where it is eat or be eaten you must choose to be the hunter or the monster and try to survive or kill the beast. This game offers 5 modes,Nest,Hunt,Rescue,Defend and Evacuation, 12 hunters 3 in each class Trapper,Medic,Assault and Support, i think 13 maps and 3 Monsters Goliath,Kraken and Wraith.

I have spent a great amount of time on this game and in my honest opinion it is one of the most enjoyable games i have ever played. Each Role of hunters has a job on the team and a unique set of equipment to get it done. I will tell you right now this game will not hold your hand like a mom you must learn on your own to master it. Due to this some matches can be frustrating some players will not know what their role is and how do this the job right. To be better at every role i suggest practicing in single player and watching tutorial videos.

The thrill of the hunt is great but the destruction mayhem of being the monster is oh so sweet as well. Playing as the monster can be just as challenging as being a hunter if you do not know what you are doing it could be the meat grinder for you, each monster has a different play style so find one that suit you and practice, The monster has different objectives in each mode as do the hunters, but you are a beast and its time to take the planet back.

All in all for and brand new IP it is a fantastic game i would recommend it to anyone that wants a game that will last a long time. I will enjoy this game and i hope you do as well have a nice day

The lack of 1 player options is irrelevant when you have a PS+ membership and a love of gaming. I've not done much as the beasts so far, its very challenging from what I have done, but as a hunter, it is simply the best FPS experience I've ever played.
The devs have gone out n out to create a world of intrigue and danger, and scale that will blow you away. When a Goliath is charging towards you, the action left me speechless, my team mates all shouted commands and the community is already proving a significantly more sportsmanlike than that in CoD.

I can't understand how anyone can rate this game Zero. It's been made to be a multiplayer FPS online, and I think it offers a much deeper and certainty more satisfying experience than that of CoD and from what I saw on the Hardline Beta this past week... honestly, if you're a fan of Left4Dead or FPSs and have been wondering if to buy this or not, don't hesitate. This game is very well constructed. Everything from the hunters to monsters feels well balanced. moving from 1st to 3rd person is nice and makes the experience/maps more dynamic with every play. The progression of characters has a sense of accomplishment without feeling too "grindy". Despite rumblings on what this game lacks in story, it makes up for in gameplay. The 4 v 1 experience does not feel so much forced but rather needed. A group of hunters must defend a planet and its inhabitants from "monsters". The ability to set up a preference of which class/role you would like to play adds to the diversity of the games experience. With 12 hunters, 3 monsters, and 12 maps with multiple modes/modifiers this game actually pack quite a punch in terms of content compared to other games published lately, and not so much as a punch to the wallet. It might not hurt to mention that future DLC content will add to this.

Graphics are not exactly top notch but that should never detract from the bottom line: "is the game fun?"
My answer is yes, the 3GB patch on day one only helped the game with load times an matchmaking and should not be viewed as a problem but rather developers making the game better before you even play it. As far as the on-line/off-line options; offline, bots take on the roll of other characters that you can takeover with the touch of a button keeping single player as a somewhat standalone testing arena before you hop online and go PvP.

The experience that Evolve offers is different and not for everyone, but it does seem like it deserves a look if you like PvP, first person shooters, or controlling a monster with the ability to wipe out an entire team of hunters. Hopefully none if this sways you from the game, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

It's fun and the different modes make for a nice get away from the traditional mode after thirty or so matches in a row. After simply taking a break or playing some of the other game modes, I was happy to come back to it. Each match plays out differently and often requires you to actually consider going about your own play style differently from the previous match. It depends on their comp every time. I love that in a game. Some methods work better than others.

DLC. The thing most of everyone is crying about. I'll start off by saying that you don't need to buy -anything- to enjoy the game's upcoming content. Even if you don't spend a single penny, the upcoming maps are free, the upcoming modes are free, and the thing that isn't free is actually playing the new monsters and characters. Get this though... You can still play alongside people who have the new characters and play against the new monsters! Yes, you can use them yourself, but you can at least play with the people who are playing as them. The DLC is optional and doesn't exclude you from anything except actually playing the upcoming characters.

That said, the DLC content is pricey. So yes, that is a con in itself. The fact I'm not forced to buy it and can still play games that involve it though? That makes me happy... And again. Upcoming MAPS AND MODES ARE FREE. League of Legends is a good comparison. Even if you don't personally own the champions and skins, you still see them in game. Evolve works in the same manner.

Overall? I'm happy with this game and while I can't say I'll be jumping on all of the DLC due to the price, it's nice to know it won't hinder my experience. I hope this was helpful for anyone who may of been on the fence about getting this game.

    I'd recommend it.

Yes - it doesn't have story line and all the modes basically come down to the "4 guys hunt a monster" theme, but that's what this game is about and it is fun. True, it may get a little repetitive at times, but I just don't see it as a game you will be playing ten hours a day (even though I could, given the right friends to play it with).

What do I love about it:
++ Finally this is a shooter where you don't have to shoot people, instead you have to cooperate with them. And it really is fun to actually put those coop mechanics into action. Also its not just shoot and kill, this is really about hide and seek, about cooperating and communicating. Something I have been missing in a lot of games so far.
++ The cooperation idea: I love how the group is supposed to work with its 4 classes. Once you figure out what everyone is supposed to do, it's cool. And the different characters you can pick from each class add a nice variety and feel to the game.
++ the characters are not just skins you wear as a player, they are nice characters with a personality and personal feel to them.
++ the graphics and environments are just great, I love the arenas and the creepy feeling they give me
++ the entire hunt and capture the monster gameplay is fun
++ playing as a monster is also an interesting feature

+++ The option to play with less than 5 players. Honestly I bought that game because my husband and I were looking for a coop game that we two could play alone with our two PS4s. Star Wars battlefront left us very disappointed as there was only one mode with 4 arenas that would allow that. With evolve I wasn't quite sure if this was gonna work. But the game easily stacks up the party (and the monster) with bots, so you can play all by yourself, the way YOU want to. This is what I love about games, if the devs allow the players to play how they want. Also the feature, that you can switch to another bot and take control over him may be a small one, but I find it awesome, playing with my husband, being able to switch between the classes how I see fit at each situation. Nicely done!

    - - + + The only thing I have mixed feelings about are the dlcs. On the one hand side I think its great if a game is that good, that the devs would keep working on it to add more variety to it. On the other hand it feels wrong to buy a game, then see all the possibilities there are, but being forced to spend more money in add ons than into the original game to get all the content.

Overall if you are looking for a coop game that is not just the classical shooter, but needs you to think a bit outside the box of a classical shooter - get it.

If you don't know what it is and are looking for yet another shooter that lets you kill beasts and stuff - you'll be disappointed - because this is a coop game by nature, where the fun of hide and seek and cooperation comes first

I noticed a pattern in the reviews. To be honest they seem quite artificial (READ BOTS), either a ONE or ZERO denouncing the dlc content, which being skins was/is trivial. The other side of the spectrum is glowing well expressed reviews (INDUSTRY MOLES?). Both of which has contributed to me finding less value from MetaCritic, sadly, as I really like the format. Although I could do without the glowing 'pro' reviews who hail polished and re-hashed poop daily.

Lots of maps with good variety, only 3 monsters initially and 12 hunters although next week 3 new hunters and a new monster are going to be released. Gameplay works best when a team of 4 hunters work to their character strengths and communicate.

Having played a lot of Evolve the experience is soured by players running off to do their own thing and getting killed or not contributing to the goals of the game. If you are thinking of getting this game try playing with a mic and joining one of the PS4 Evolve community groups to find other players looking to team up and use mics.

Monsters feel well balanced and you can kill a poor team of hunters at stage 1 (when the monster is smallest and weakest) yet can easily loose to a good team of hunters at stage 3 when your strongest and at your largest. Teamwork really is everything.

A month in and it does feel that the player base has dropped a bit but with new characters about to drop it will be important to the long term community support of this game as to how further DLC is delivered.

Issues include, character speech in cut scenes not loading in, server connection issues stopping you playing online (you can play offline against/with bots which can be a harder experience to win), games dropping, players dropping out moments before they are going to loose.

Overall though as this is now available for around £30 just 4 weeks after release this is well worth getting, just remember running around solo like you do in COD or battlefield games won't work here and communication and teamwork are essential, then you will 1) love it 2) progress quickly.

A must have for the next gen.

The game really is designed for multiplayer only, the solo mode will allow the game to be played even after the servers are inevitably shut down.

Games can be a little one-sided. There's a balancing system that gives a boost to the team who lost the previous round, but they also give on-map rewards for the team that won, which is conflicting.

The progression system rewards sub-optimal and selfish game-play as people aren't looking to help their team win as much as they are trying to unlock their next thing -- thus, don't expect a medic to heal you if they need to land a few more sniper shots to unlock the next medic, etc. The progression system gives you a goal and something to focus on and provides the necessary grind to keep playing the game, but it hurts the actual gameplay a little.

There's a bit of a learning curve, but in two or three matches, you should be pretty comfortable with what you need to do. In 4 or 5 matches, you may have seen most of what the game offers. There's no storyline or campaign mode, only the other hunters / monsters to unlock, so staying power may be a little short. Let's remember that Turtle Rock developed this game and they're a pretty small company with probably a fairly small budget. I think they did an admirable job, and I'm unashamed to give this game a solid 8.

The graphics and sound are good if not superb, and the games are short and thrilling / fun. The asymmetrical nature of the game makes perfect balance difficult, but I think both sides are fun and both sides can win. It's mostly a matter of whether or not the hunters can coordinate and communicate, and whether or not the monster knows [how] to avoid a stage 1 confrontation.

I'll probably get the DLC hunters, mostly to support the game. I definitely wish there was more meat, I think a bigger budget would've produced a must-buy game. I expect to see clones from the big studios.

If I had to describe Evolve to anyone it would be that it is essentially a "Strategic Left 4 Dead"( which makes sense as the developers of both games are the same). All of your teammates must co-operate in order to capture the "Goliath". Seems simple enough, although gameplay sessions can be ruined with a lot of inexperienced or bad players trying to figure out the control schemes or just being a plain noob.. (Ex. Goliath is close by and the trapper doesn't throw down the grenade to trap the monster. This was a situation that happened countless times.)

If you plan on playing the campaign and expect a Christopher Nolan written campaign - here's a spoiler alert. The campaign totally sucks and is completely what you would expect from a Campaign comprised of 4 mercenaries trying to kill monsters.. (A for effort?) Sure. Turtle Rock definitely tried to make the campaign story epic and it shows through the cut scenes, the only problem is it's plain boring and trying too hard. The nice thing with Left 4 Dead was it was kind of set up as if they were Episodes where the story was only based on surviving. This was a cool premise and it didn't seem to try too hard nor raise any expectations. It could have been more wise of Turtle Rock studios to try toning down the campaign and even make the characters more memorable or humorous as the characters in Left 4 Dead.

To be completely honest if you need my advice. Avoid the campaign. It is worth a try although it seems all the experienced players have decided to stick with the Skirmish mode making having fun an actual possibility.

All in all, minus the bad technical issues - Evolve is a lot of fun. The different roles allow for variety in game play type and the weapons can be really awesome! Many rewards are to be found and help keep gamers coming back to earn great unlocks such as new characters and more. Playing as the monster is tons of fun, especially when choosing new upgrades for your Goliath and other monsters, and even being tedious with your opponents.

The maps are great and theirs a fair amount although their still needs to be a bit more variety in the locations of the maps. I found myself too many time in swamps and forests giving a very flushed feel to the overall experience..

Although most of this review sounds like a bash on the game, I really do like Evolve! Theirs just so much more that can be done to make this a better game.

Here's a list of all the improvements I think are necessary..

    - More online games modes ( Defend, death match, etc)
    - More maps with variety
    - More playable monsters (Minor enemies like Left 4 Dead.)
    - 8v8 multi-player

A lot of these ideas are reflected on the Defend game mode! ^

If I had to give Evolve a score out of 10 I would probably give it a 7.5. Their is still much that is needed to be fixed to make this a great online experience.

Playing as the monster is great fun too. The single player element is the same as multiplayer but with bots, playing maps with different objectives, not just hunting the monsters.
My only gripe is the dlc, too expensive for what it is. I feel skins should be unlockable during gameplay.

Evacuation mode is amazing 5 random game modes with modifiers and a tiny bit of story is my favorite part, there is plenty to unlock and to work towards, which is in my opinion a good thing but for others it won't be.

And for people complaining about day 1 dlc its just skins, cosmetic stuff that you don't have to buy, its not pay to win or anything so just shut up complaining about it.

Geweldige game om met vrienden te spelen. Easy to play hard to master. Hoe meer ik hem speel hoe toffer hij wordt. But as for pure multiplayer - Evolve is a unique co-op experience that does the job it was designed to do. Not over-complicated - Not trying to be something its not; and stands alone on a shelf of PS4 games that all do similar things.

Evolve doesn't tolerate spamming buttons, it actually requires a team to use ALL their skills and abilities to take down a monster, and rewards players accordingly.

Love the haters on here complaining about DLC's that cost as much as a large coffee these days (Get a job) - Things cost money, get used to it - if you don't like it, don't buy it.

Evolve creators didn't hide what this game was - its been clear from the outset what type of game this would be - and for those like me whom in the early days of MMO lived in Warcraft Bg's and Arena's - Evolve is a welcome addition to further Co-op craziness.

Clearly teams are only as strong as the weakest link, and trappers whom don't have a clue tend to frustrate other players. If this happens more than twice in a row - I just have a break as the Monster (You don't need to rely on anyone here to punish other players) - Or - even a better suggestion - quit whinging and hone your skills as a trapper or medic and be that difference that your team requires for a result.

Often in Evolve the stars line up and team play becomes fluent and beautiful - its a fun game and well worth a buy - as long as you already have clear expectations of what the game is at the outset.

Find a character you love, but be familiar with all play styles (as you will be called on from time to time to play different roles)

If you're the type of person whom runs away (On an "I AM" quest) from a team mate whom is trapped in a flower do yourself and others a favour and uninstall the game.

Evolve, for Evolved players only - noobs and solo players need not apply.

But, once again , this is part of the game. The hunt. It does not bother me at all. As a matter of fact, I rather enjoy it. And i have also been in the role of the monster and the feeling of being hunted is a little thrilling to be honest. There were moments where I thought I was safe enough to feast or evolve only to realize that the hunting team were right on me .. and there have also been times where I have completely fooled them. Regardless, the battles are epic fun and brutal. The only real quip I have with this game is the DLC scheme is really bad. Really bad. And more importantly, there is a real lack of game modes . In short, this is a great, fun game IF you know what you are getting. If you are expecting a COD or Destiny even, type game... The negative reviews claiming balance issues are players that can't comprehend how to play and consistently lose or get killed. I see none of that and think the game has very little to no balance issues at all.

The game is incredibly fun, so many times I say just one more match then go on to play for a few more hours. The ranking system is rewarding enough and borderlines a little on grinding, however with how much fun I find in playing the game the grinding doesn't bother me in the least. This isn't Destiny level grinding which is downright grueling.

The gameplay is fast, fluid, no server or connection issues. How many games launch where you can say that?

I do have to say the lack of a campaign with an actual story does hinder it a bit but the little snip-its you get on each characters back story does provide some interesting insight into who they are and why they are here. Though I do wish it had more and I do find myself feeling a little let down on the amount of content but if you have 3-4 other friends it does offer a bunch of fun swapping roles.

User reviews aren't supposed to be a tool for getting your way or supporting some cause, they're supposed to be an accurate representation of how you think the pros and cons stack up. Unless the game doesn't work, it isn't a 0, and if it isn't perfect, it isn't a 10. This is why critic reviews are usually the only ones worth anything.

As for the game, it has balance issues sometimes. It punishes anyone's failure, out of the 5 people involved, very harshly. It has replayability issues: it won't be fun after a few dozen hours. But a few dozen hours is as much as I really expect out of any game, short of a new Elder Scrolls game. And the punishing nature really makes a good plan coming together feel *#$%ing awesome, and really ratchets up the tension. Solid good game, light on features, looks and handles great. BE FLEXIBLE, enjoy all the different characters and monsters. Rent if you play a lot of 1st person shooters and aren't sure. Avoid trying if you need a strong story and varying environments. Strange how this game gave evrything it promised but still people complained about it. Probably the hype was exagerated, but Evolve gives exactly what it aimed to give: frantic search for the monster and a couple of stressing fights per game. And it does just fine. My only complain is that Hunt mode is basically the only mode, the others being not as funny as expected. Luckly, those who like the game and reached its higher levels can now finally experience the true spirit of it and its proper gameplay.

I am almost top 1000 with assault and support.... the trapper I play with is 250something in the world or better... out of 350k ish people sign up.. At less than 2 dollars an hour this game is already cost effective for me and I just started playing it. Playing the game solo not as monster, and even as monster, not at all the same game as playing with friends or friendly people at least. I find it to be 5/10 solo playing, played about 2 hours or less worth. not monster .... 8/10 still as monster solo. The only thing holding this game back is expensive downloadable content and people with no friends. Want a great story read a book. Want tons of fun with friends on a video game, play evolve. Wraith does seem to be a problem in the game but it feels that much better killing one. 1.63 win/losses as everything .... game feels amazing when you win and gut busting at losses. I have only played 1 round of evacuation due to having so much fun with the surface of the game. If you support a different style of video game this is a must have. I sign 3 guys up today and know they too will get 1 hour for every dollar at least. Expand

There is only one thing to say about Evovle: do you have 3 or 4 friends to play co-op online with a mic?

If you are at least 3, the co-op experience is outstanding because the different hunter classes work hand in hand. The hunting gameplay is refreshing for the FPS genre and nothing beats hunting a monster with a few mates! That being said, if you're looking to play online by yourself

That being said, if you're looking to play online by yourself without mics well in my opinion this game is pretty much unplayable and can be very frustrating (unless you're playing as the monster of course).
So if you're looking at playing this game with a group of mates, do not hesitate, you'll have a blast. Otherwise, I would stay from this game.

shame on those who gave 0, is an obvious trolling/spamming.

lets put the big elephant aside first, i bought this game knowing what exactly i'm getting, an arena game. i don't care about the dlcs as long there's no pay to win model, i'm cool with dlc, they explicitly tells you what contents you are getting on evolvethegame website. FYI future maps n modes are free

    back to the game

there's no reason to fault this game on for being like some other games, which games does not take forms and shapes of existing games? To me this is a fresh take an interesting idea which i have doubts of my own that it will not hold your interest for long also for being straight-out repetitive.

    the good

    Monsters
Evolve! the monster mechanic is simple and intuitive, i just like the simple hunt n eat and evolve concept. it has its learning curve and its really not for everyone as the pressure to survive and evolve is sky high the moment you start. the tutorials are the best tips and i can tell you no other games explains the game to you for success like evolve does. when i got the combo right when caught in the frantic assault from the hunters, i managed to swipe the hunters at lv1. after unlocking the second monster kragen and using it was an entire new experience, needing to understand and play to your monsters strength.

    Hunters
i have yet to unlock the second tier and i'm already excited on the prospect of using them, simple straight forward skills and rewards you when the combo is right, ambushing circling monster is really satisfying. Very distinctive combat role (so what its like team fortress?) which many players are getting the hang of it online which the experience from day 1 to 2 is really encouraging. i'm quite pleasantly surprised to know that there are 12 characters on default as i was expecting a rip off of just 4 and others as paid dlcs.

    VFX
fantastic sound effects, booming sound on my steel series, i have no problem with the soundtrack which a review mention was stale, guess i'm overwhelmed by the intense battles and escapes going on to notice. graphics wise are good but nothing spectacular, its an average next gen looking game.

    Gameplay
playing to your role is essential, loving it, nothing is overpowered and everything can be counter with environments and strategies. Really solid gameplay which is the core of every game, the weight and hard hitting moves are on spot. as i have mention i can't wait to play with the new weaponry of the other tiers of characters. Very helpful bots which i don't find in other game, keeps the flow going at all times.

    the bad

lacking in monster evolving both in terms of design and skills, greatest down side of a game call evolve, its basically levelling up. i feel there's more dynamic to the hunters instead...i believe there should be at least a second tier of skills to each monster after evolving to lv 3. what a waste of concept...

No 60 FPS for PS4 is disappointing.

I would say more of a party game if your into playing with friends. The volume of the game is good not great but good. The luster runs out pretty fast on the game its one that will be forgotten a month after buying it for most. For me it gets a little stale SP and MP, although they say each level win/loss makes a difference on the next stage its minor and nothing worth jumping over. To those without internet connections, you may as well avoid this game. There is a single player but it's not a cinematic campaign with detailed characters, great music, cutscenes, and atmosphere. It is simply an offline version of the multiplayer but with AI either assisting you as hunters or playing as the monster. It works if you are bored, or want some practice before jumping into multiplayer.

Multiplayer is fun and refreshing. In a genre full of 6v6, 12v12, and so on it's nice to see asymmetrical multiplayer games. The classes are simple yet effective in this type of game. Each with their own abilities and weapons that assist your efforts to kill the player posing as a vicious and deadly beast. The combat is fast paced and extremely tense towards the later parts of the match but admittedly many players that currently play as the monster have adopted the, excuse my language, **** approach. I say this because it isn't very fun to spend 20 minutes running around a map looking for something that purposefully avoids a fight so it can hit stage 3 of the monster's evolution. It is understandable to avoid the hunters until stage 2 but once stage 2 has been achieved the monster is more than capable of surviving and possibly killing the enemy team. The lack of incentive to take the fight to the hunters is upsetting but once your opponent decides to attack the game becomes a satisfying battle of skill, coordination, and just a bit of luck.

The graphics are great and the game runs well most of the time. There are some noticeable frame rate losses (ps4) that I've noticed but most likely will be fixed at some point. The music is sub par hut fits the sci fi style of the game and the environments are well detailed. This game has its fair share of annoying bugs that should have been halted at beta ie... fps stutter, game disconnects, characters becoming stuck, and ranks resetting but these are all fixable if the developer works fast enough.

As it is right now i say the game is enjoyable and worth the money. One thing that I will stress, however, is to fully appreciate playing as a hunter you will want friends instead of randoms. This game is miserable in that regard which is why it isn't an 8/10 for me.

Ultimately you should see some videos of letsplayers, or rent this game if you are skeptical but it is great fun when your team works well.

Evolve multiplayer is Extremely fun and unique if you have a team who know how to play. The hunter-hunted game is very intense and it is not quite like any other games. It is, however, true that this game is severely overpriced, with no campaign, only 15 playable characters (12 humans, 3 monsters) and not a lot of maps.
I recommend picking this up after price drops - this game is really fun.

I have quite enjoyed the time Ive spent playing Evolve. There are a lot of people that are "Neigh" saying it, Im not gonna give this game a 10 to balance it out all the 0's.

If you hadnt done your research going into the game, yes it's mostly online. Why do people have such a problem with that? CoD is mostly online and very few actually get the game for the single campaign anyway.

The one problem Ive had with Evolve is with the servers itself and the match making. Many times Ive been in a game and disconnected or I join a game as the monster and Im at half health being attacked by the hunters. imo I rather start a game and fail it then pick up in a fail.

    Thats just one person's opinion.

Evolve is a game that when at best, is an intense and at times terrifying game that makes teamwork crucial to succeed. When at its worst, it is a frustrating game where nobody works together, nobody has mics, and people act like they are Rambo and take on the creature by themselves.
