I played the game for about 2 hours. I feel you on the stupid DLC stuff but the game is pretty good. I purchased it from ebay for 35.00 I think it was well spent. Just give it time af first I hated the game but now I love it. As long as people play their role online you will be ok. I suggest to play the single mode for a day at least to get the hang of the game then go online to play this game.

I've read most of the reviews for this game as of February 11th and most of them are rated "0". To me a 0 means the game is literally unplayable. My copy is not only playable, but very fun. If you dont want to pay extra money for DLC then dont. You can still play with people who do. I also disagree with the negative reviews arguing that gameplay is unbalanced. I have played with eight human characters and two monsters so far and have won and lost different ways and at different times. However, I do agree with the negative reviews that there is no story line and no campaign. Although I mostly buy video games for their compcompetitive multiplayer, I do enjoy playing campaign as well. I have shown some friends this game and they're all on my side, and the three of them ended up buying the game later in the day. I think if you want an intelligent and methodical multiplayer game, this is a good pick up. I am most likely going to buy some DLC too. $100 For me and 3-4 friends to have probably 100 hours of fun over the next year is totally worth it in my book. Expand

I waited for this game over other FPS because it looked different. Yes you still have the typical 4 classes of killers (medic, assault, support, with trapper being a bit different).

Lots of maps with good variety, only 3 monsters initially and 12 hunters although next week 3 new hunters and a new monster are going to be released. Gameplay works best when a team of 4 hunters work to their character strengths and communicate.

Having played a lot of Evolve the experience is soured by players running off to do their own thing and getting killed or not contributing to the goals of the game. If you are thinking of getting this game try playing with a mic and joining one of the PS4 Evolve community groups to find other players looking to team up and use mics.

Monsters feel well balanced and you can kill a poor team of hunters at stage 1 (when the monster is smallest and weakest) yet can easily loose to a good team of hunters at stage 3 when your strongest and at your largest. Teamwork really is everything.

A month in and it does feel that the player base has dropped a bit but with new characters about to drop it will be important to the long term community support of this game as to how further DLC is delivered.

Issues include, character speech in cut scenes not loading in, server connection issues stopping you playing online (you can play offline against/with bots which can be a harder experience to win), games dropping, players dropping out moments before they are going to loose.

Overall though as this is now available for around £30 just 4 weeks after release this is well worth getting, just remember running around solo like you do in COD or battlefield games won't work here and communication and teamwork are essential, then you will 1) love it 2) progress quickly.

A must have for the next gen.

I've had this game a week and I didn't even know there was DLC until seeing the ragefest going on here. This **** about available cosmetic microtransactions is ridiculous. And anyone who gives a game a 0 because it has something they don't like or a 10 because they want to counter the 0s is completely invalidating the idea of user reviews.

User reviews aren't supposed to be a tool for getting your way or supporting some cause, they're supposed to be an accurate representation of how you think the pros and cons stack up. Unless the game doesn't work, it isn't a 0, and if it isn't perfect, it isn't a 10. This is why critic reviews are usually the only ones worth anything.

As for the game, it has balance issues sometimes. It punishes anyone's failure, out of the 5 people involved, very harshly. It has replayability issues: it won't be fun after a few dozen hours. But a few dozen hours is as much as I really expect out of any game, short of a new Elder Scrolls game. And the punishing nature really makes a good plan coming together feel *#$%ing awesome, and really ratchets up the tension. Solid good game, light on features, looks and handles great. Solid 8 points.

I'd rate this game a 9 but gave it a 10 because of all the fake hate reviews from people who have obviously not played the game. Let me start off by going over what others have said.

    - "There's no variation, the DLC practices are an abomination and there's not enough content." --- Wow, this must be someone who only played the beta and read what others said about the DLC. There are multiple modes to this game. Besides playing online with others or solo with the bots, you have multiple modes like Rescue, Nest, Defend, and Hunt. You can play each individually across all the maps (Defend has it's own four maps), or in Extraction where you play across five game days (matches) where maps, modes, and bonuses are never the same. I don't need to go into detail because you can find details on all this on IGN, Gamespot, or any other gaming site.

The DLC is just skins. You are not buying new weapons or characters for the game. You get three boss monsters and twelve hunters with a lot of variety. I unlocked all the hunters over a couple of days and am working to level them up and unlock more perks. I love having all the choices, depending on what mode I'm playing. I also like each class is different and how you have to work together. You have your Support, Medic, Assault, and Trapper classes. It's more like Battlefield 4 than Left 4 Dead with how the classes work. The three monsters are very different too. You have to use different tactics against each monster. When fighting as the monster, you can pick you abilities and level them up based on the mode you are playing.

With the 12 maps, 3 Monsters, 12 hunters, multiple modes, and random bonuses in Extraction, the game always feels different. Again, you can get better at playing the game by just going up against the bots. They play as well as they did in Left 4 Dead.

    - "You buy the game for 60 dollars and then need to spend even more money to enjoy the game to its fullest" --- Not sure what game you bought for $60 and had to spend more to enjoy it, but it wasn't Evolve. I'm having more than enough fun with this game. I've played all the modes online and with the bots. I have no desire to buy any skins and you are not being forced to buy any of it. Why does everyone keep complaining about it? Remember the horse armor in Oblivion? I bought it because it made my horse look cool. I didn't complain about it because it was optional. Doesn't change the game in any way. Stop all the talk about the DLC.

There is another Monster and four more characters coming out in a few months. The Season Pass is $24.99 and will pay for this content. Do you have to buy it? No! The developer has stated that you will be able to play against the monster in your game and will see the other characters in games. You will just not be able to play them yourself unless you buy them. If you don't buy them, you are not being cut off from all the other players. It's not like COD where someone else buys the maps, but you can't play them now because you don't have the maps. This will not happen with Evolve. They stated that any new maps will be free. Myself, I'm going to get the Season pass when the new content is ready to be released. I'm really enjoying the game.

    - " is a mediocre first person shooter (surprise surprise!) that brings nothing new to the genre" --- Where have you played a game like this before? I really feel like I'm out on a hunting trip in Jurassic Park! I have a blast. Sometimes we get to the monster early and kill it and other times we are hunting until it reaches level 3 and we head it of at the base. I do think they have some balancing to do, but they have already stated that they are working on this. I'm still having a great time with the game. I'm trying to level up each of the hunters now.

    -----------------------------

Take time to read some reviews from sites like IGN or Game Informer. They have been playing the game for some time now and have even had play time with the developers. I'll believe what Ryan McCaffrey says over someone who is just bashing the game because they think there is a DLC issue or not enough content. Looking at most of the user reviews, it looks like people are just trying to bring down the score without even really trying the game.

Read real reviews for more info on the game. That is why I decided to buy it. It is really different from the other games I've played. The graphics are top notch and really put you into that world. With the day one patch, load times are better than they were in the beta. This is one game that is really getting a raw deal from users just looking for something to bash. The more I play it, the more I'm enjoying it. You can't play this like COD or just any other shooter. You need to pick the right hunter for the mode you are playing and monster you are fighting.

(Sorry for any grammar or spelling problems. I just typed this up and didn't proof it. I just want to get home and play more Evolve!)

This game is very well constructed. Everything from the hunters to monsters feels well balanced. moving from 1st to 3rd person is nice and makes the experience/maps more dynamic with every play. The progression of characters has a sense of accomplishment without feeling too "grindy". Despite rumblings on what this game lacks in story, it makes up for in gameplay. The 4 v 1 experience does not feel so much forced but rather needed. A group of hunters must defend a planet and its inhabitants from "monsters". The ability to set up a preference of which class/role you would like to play adds to the diversity of the games experience. With 12 hunters, 3 monsters, and 12 maps with multiple modes/modifiers this game actually pack quite a punch in terms of content compared to other games published lately, and not so much as a punch to the wallet. It might not hurt to mention that future DLC content will add to this.

Graphics are not exactly top notch but that should never detract from the bottom line: "is the game fun?"
My answer is yes, the 3GB patch on day one only helped the game with load times an matchmaking and should not be viewed as a problem but rather developers making the game better before you even play it. As far as the on-line/off-line options; offline, bots take on the roll of other characters that you can takeover with the touch of a button keeping single player as a somewhat standalone testing arena before you hop online and go PvP.

The experience that Evolve offers is different and not for everyone, but it does seem like it deserves a look if you like PvP, first person shooters, or controlling a monster with the ability to wipe out an entire team of hunters. Hopefully none if this sways you from the game, I hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

Aside from that it is a great game, new mechanics that take some time to learn and master. It is a multi-player game but you can play all the game modes offline if you don't want to play with people and get better at certain classes before taking it online.

I do have to say the lack of a campaign with an actual story does hinder it a bit but the little snip-its you get on each characters back story does provide some interesting insight into who they are and why they are here. Though I do wish it had more and I do find myself feeling a little let down on the amount of content but if you have 3-4 other friends it does offer a bunch of fun swapping roles.

Either way I have to say it is a great game and with the free DLC map packs and the promise of new modes I think it will still be fun and not just a DLC money grab like people think.

This game is a lot of fun especially for me since i have 5 friends who play it a lot. With friends I give it an 8 but if you don't then about a 6 or 7. The matches can get very repetitive and if you have one bad player the monster will instantly win. The DLC is pretty overpriced but adds some of my favorite characters. If you want to get it but have no one to play with wait for the price to drop.

If I had to describe Evolve to anyone it would be that it is essentially a "Strategic Left 4 Dead"( which makes sense as the developers of both games are the same). All of your teammates must co-operate in order to capture the "Goliath". Seems simple enough, although gameplay sessions can be ruined with a lot of inexperienced or bad players trying to figure out the control schemes or just being a plain noob.. (Ex. Goliath is close by and the trapper doesn't throw down the grenade to trap the monster. This was a situation that happened countless times.)

If you plan on playing the campaign and expect a Christopher Nolan written campaign - here's a spoiler alert. The campaign totally sucks and is completely what you would expect from a Campaign comprised of 4 mercenaries trying to kill monsters.. (A for effort?) Sure. Turtle Rock definitely tried to make the campaign story epic and it shows through the cut scenes, the only problem is it's plain boring and trying too hard. The nice thing with Left 4 Dead was it was kind of set up as if they were Episodes where the story was only based on surviving. This was a cool premise and it didn't seem to try too hard nor raise any expectations. It could have been more wise of Turtle Rock studios to try toning down the campaign and even make the characters more memorable or humorous as the characters in Left 4 Dead.

To be completely honest if you need my advice. Avoid the campaign. It is worth a try although it seems all the experienced players have decided to stick with the Skirmish mode making having fun an actual possibility.

All in all, minus the bad technical issues - Evolve is a lot of fun. The different roles allow for variety in game play type and the weapons can be really awesome! Many rewards are to be found and help keep gamers coming back to earn great unlocks such as new characters and more. Playing as the monster is tons of fun, especially when choosing new upgrades for your Goliath and other monsters, and even being tedious with your opponents.

The maps are great and theirs a fair amount although their still needs to be a bit more variety in the locations of the maps. I found myself too many time in swamps and forests giving a very flushed feel to the overall experience..

Although most of this review sounds like a bash on the game, I really do like Evolve! Theirs just so much more that can be done to make this a better game.

Here's a list of all the improvements I think are necessary..

    - More online games modes ( Defend, death match, etc)
    - More maps with variety
    - More playable monsters (Minor enemies like Left 4 Dead.)
    - 8v8 multi-player

A lot of these ideas are reflected on the Defend game mode! ^

If I had to give Evolve a score out of 10 I would probably give it a 7.5. Their is still much that is needed to be fixed to make this a great online experience.

First and for most alot of people seem to be confused about different thing about this game that i will clear up First this is not a Multiplayer only game it can be played offline without and internet connection , the Wraith and third tier of hunters are not dlc they are in the game all you have to do to get them is to unlock them, and lastly all future Map and Modes DLC will be free as to not split the community.

The game evolve has been one of the most orignal games I have seen in a long time and it pays off. out of the gate you are dropped into a harsh world where it is eat or be eaten you must choose to be the hunter or the monster and try to survive or kill the beast. This game offers 5 modes,Nest,Hunt,Rescue,Defend and Evacuation, 12 hunters 3 in each class Trapper,Medic,Assault and Support, i think 13 maps and 3 Monsters Goliath,Kraken and Wraith.

I have spent a great amount of time on this game and in my honest opinion it is one of the most enjoyable games i have ever played. Each Role of hunters has a job on the team and a unique set of equipment to get it done. I will tell you right now this game will not hold your hand like a mom you must learn on your own to master it. Due to this some matches can be frustrating some players will not know what their role is and how do this the job right. To be better at every role i suggest practicing in single player and watching tutorial videos.

The thrill of the hunt is great but the destruction mayhem of being the monster is oh so sweet as well. Playing as the monster can be just as challenging as being a hunter if you do not know what you are doing it could be the meat grinder for you, each monster has a different play style so find one that suit you and practice, The monster has different objectives in each mode as do the hunters, but you are a beast and its time to take the planet back.

All in all for and brand new IP it is a fantastic game i would recommend it to anyone that wants a game that will last a long time. I will enjoy this game and i hope you do as well have a nice day

After simply taking a break or playing some of the other game modes, I was happy to come back to it. Each match plays out differently and often requires you to actually consider going about your own play style differently from the previous match. It depends on their comp every time. I love that in a game. Some methods work better than others.

DLC. The thing most of everyone is crying about. I'll start off by saying that you don't need to buy -anything- to enjoy the game's upcoming content. Even if you don't spend a single penny, the upcoming maps are free, the upcoming modes are free, and the thing that isn't free is actually playing the new monsters and characters. Get this though... You can still play alongside people who have the new characters and play against the new monsters! Yes, you can use them yourself, but you can at least play with the people who are playing as them. The DLC is optional and doesn't exclude you from anything except actually playing the upcoming characters.

That said, the DLC content is pricey. So yes, that is a con in itself. The fact I'm not forced to buy it and can still play games that involve it though? That makes me happy... And again. Upcoming MAPS AND MODES ARE FREE. League of Legends is a good comparison. Even if you don't personally own the champions and skins, you still see them in game. Evolve works in the same manner.

Overall? I'm happy with this game and while I can't say I'll be jumping on all of the DLC due to the price, it's nice to know it won't hinder my experience. I hope this was helpful for anyone who may of been on the fence about getting this game.

    I'd recommend it.

You will never forget playing this game. This is an experience you should not miss. There is no other game that conveys the atmosphere, excitement, and overall gaming experience of Evolve. Don't miss out just because of the weird negative hype - that has nothing to do with the actual game.

Pacing and the transitions from hunt to battle are phenomenal; I love the sense of tracking a giant monster through dark forests or snowy blizzards, intent on the chase but equally fearful that at any moment the beast will turn and ambush the Hunters. Urgency and suspense drive the early gameplay whether as the Hunters trying to track and cut off the monster before it can evolve and become even more dangerous, or as the Monster trying to race ahead, feed, double-back, hide, throw off pursuit knowing that a team of four is hunting you...until you are strong, and whirl, and descend on them like rage and storm.

And then suddenly it is a wild, brutal, and deeply tactical battle for both sides, comboing abilities, intrinsic teamwork abilities, utilizing map and environment advantage (the maps are wonderful and vertical and full of different moments and opportunities), and then perhaps the chase is on again, as either side attempts to flee and disengage and lick their wounds before picking their time and place once more. The transitions from hunt to battle to chase to final stand, however they play out, are always dynamic and interesting and wild fun.

Abilities differ enough between hunter characters to let you find the one that best fits your play style or team composition, while still all reinforcing the basic class role of that character on the team. Monsters fill the classic archetypes of melee, ranged, and stealth to let you pick your favorite brand of mayhem, and each is equally capable of fight or flight in unique ways.

The strategic depth increases the more you play, as you begin to consider better ways to utilize the maps, combo abilities, isolate hunters, or cut off the monster's retreat. Win or lose, every round is fun and exciting. Either team could win at any time.

There is offline solo play with competent bots, big points for that.
There is also a full color instruction manual in the box; this is how you know it was made with true gamer love.

DLC? Guess what? At launch, DLC literally does not exist. Lot of fuss about content that has yet to be made. You can preorder DLC if that's your thing, but stop worrying about whether or not you want DLC, you don't need it. Play the game. There are plenty of characters to choose from and plenty of game, and in the heat of battle and the thrill of the chase, all that matters is that you are either hunter or hunted...and in the end, everyone is both, and that's what makes it fantastic.

There is no other gaming experience like this. And you should absolutely experience it. Ignore the negatively; play the game because gaming is about new and fascinating games, not about whining about marketing. Evolve.

I actually would rate this a 9.5, but you can't do decimals. I'm rounding up because of all the zeroes. Does it make you guys feel good, to slap that 0 and try to sway public opinion because of your prejudices against the game? Just wondering.

As for the game itself, it's one of the freshest, most distinct shooters I've played in a long time. There is a lack of content, but it's one of

As for the game itself, it's one of the freshest, most distinct shooters I've played in a long time. There is a lack of content, but it's one of those games you can just play over and over again without ever getting bored. As long as you aren't hoping to play alone(in which case, why are you playing this game, anyway?), you'll have a great time.

There is a lot of anger about Evolve because the DLC fiasco, but that does not have a lot to do with the quality of the game itself. For example, if you play as the monster do you flee and avoid combat at all cost until level 3 or do you try to manipulate the hunters?

Even a level 1 monster can tease the hunters and pinpoint the strong and weak players. The monster can then lead the hunters to an area of the map where the monster has the advantage and 'get trapped' by the hunters only to turn the table on them. In other words, its a deep game if you're willing to treat it like a deep game.

I very much enjoy the gameplay of Evolve, with it's cat and mouse style of asymmetrical game-play where four players play FPS style hunters and one player plays a videogame boss type monster. Many criticize the game for lack of content, but I think it's better to have a small amount of very well balanced weapons/characters than many overpowered and useless additions to a game.

Evolve is a tough game to call. On the one hand, despite a plethora of game modes and character variation, some people will find the game gets repetitive quickly, but others will find that what the game does, it does very well indeed. If you're looking for a competitive game to sink your teeth into and start climbing leaderboards, then Evolve will be a feast for you; but if you're after gripping plotlines and gameplay variation, then you may find the plate a little scarce. The graphics are beautiful, dark and brooding, and varied between the environments with awesome weather effects and smooth framerates at all times. The game's audio is also an absolute delight, varying between tense and gripping tracks to bombastic and powerful as required, and when a Stage 3 Goliath hurls a boulder or leap-smashes the Hunters, you don't just hear it, you feel it. Evolve really is one of those games that I can give my opinion on, but it feels entirely subjective and may be entirely different for you. Watch the streams right here on Senshudo, and make up your own mind if this beast of a game is for you. Expand

The first 1/4 of 2015 see's loads of new PS4 releases, and Evolve is one I've been anticipating for ages. As a huge fan of Left4Dead, I was hoping for much the same. It's not. The game is deeply more tactical, more exhilarating and certainly more fun.

The lack of 1 player options is irrelevant when you have a PS+ membership and a love of gaming. I've not done much as the beasts so far, its very challenging from what I have done, but as a hunter, it is simply the best FPS experience I've ever played.
The devs have gone out n out to create a world of intrigue and danger, and scale that will blow you away. When a Goliath is charging towards you, the action left me speechless, my team mates all shouted commands and the community is already proving a significantly more sportsmanlike than that in CoD.

I can't understand how anyone can rate this game Zero. It's been made to be a multiplayer FPS online, and I think it offers a much deeper and certainty more satisfying experience than that of CoD and from what I saw on the Hardline Beta this past week... honestly, if you're a fan of Left4Dead or FPSs and have been wondering if to buy this or not, don't hesitate. You won't regret it

I think its pretty funny that most of the people reviewing this and giving it all 0's are complaining about the DLC or lack of content. Lets just be clear here. To actually work for something. It's like everyone wants everything to be completely available from the jump so then they can complain about the fact that there is nothing to play toward. Anyways on to my review.

Now To start, the detail is amazing. The shadows and lighting blend perfect. The detail they put into the monsters is truly a gaming marvel. The game play is even better. Taking what a lot of the haters here are complaining about, you have to be on a competent team in order to be successful. If your on a team of hunters and your Medic or your Trapper are screwing off or are inexperienced, you will have a tough time. But if you have friends, or are just smart about how you matchmake (Don't get stuck with a bunch of noobs, obviously.) you'll be just fine. On to the monster.. This can be a bit frustrating.. But overall my experience with the monster has been positive. If you can just get down a good mix of stealth and forging for wildlife to evolve it can be fun, but get cornered early and your toast.

All in all, Evolve is a perfect 10. Its an original concept, there is plenty of buffs and characters/monsters to unlock to keep you busy for 50+ hours which in my opinion is worthy of my $65.

Why users are giving this game such low reviews is a mystery to me. I do not understand why you would give a game a zero out of ten when it gets so many things right. I hope there will be many more in future! I love the way 2K's app syncs and shows you replays of your previous games on your phone. Maybe this game isn't a 10/10 but it certainly isn't a 0/10. I will give this game the support it deserves. Expand

With the right people on your side, Evolve can be a surprising blast. However, get lumped with utter idiots, or the shoddy AI, and it quickly becomes very, very frustrating. [Issue#254, p.66]

At launch, it feels neutered, and far too inconsistent to establish a lasting dominance on the multiplayer scene. [Apr 2015, p.110]
