Evolve is a interesting concept, one of a kind, monster versus mankind of co-op game.
The game has potential, but the lack of content makes me worry if they underestimated the value gamers are willing to pay regarding its quite slim range of characters, modes, weapons, maps, and so on.

i really love it, yet im conflicted about the ammount of content they are trying to sell with a 60 dollar pricetag.
Knowing compairing games of different genres or companies isnt that great to do, but if im doing that right now, this would be thd list of games that makes such a pricetag worth the investment:

ElderScrolls - Skyrim: This game got a stunning ammount of content to enjoy and last for quite a while (still dos)
Fallout 3 / New vegas : worth the investment at launch.

This are just one example, Destiny in my eyes would be the exact same as Evolve is right now, lacking content, selling DLC content that already exists on the Disk, just to name a few.

I'm going to give this a 5 / 10 rating, i love the game, but at its current state, its not worth the full 60 bucks at launch.

This game is not worth the $60 entry fee. Anyone giving it anything higher than a 6 is either an employee who created the game, or a teenager that is new to gaming. If you are either of those then yes, this game is possibly a 8+.

The graphics are decent enough. But the game itself is boring after about 2 hours. There is literally nothing to do other than chase a monster around, shot at it, chase it some more, shoot at it... Etc. What's worse is the game relies heavily on teamwork, which lets be honest is almost impossible with strangers and no mics.

This game feels like it took no more than 6 months to create. The other time was spent making sure that once you have spent your $60 you'll have to spend more. $15 characters? $3 skins? If you wanted the complete game it would cost you close to $200. That's right. You read that correctly. $200 for a game that literately offers nothing in terms of game play.

Go a head and buy this game if you enjoy wasting $60 for little content and a game that gets boring quick. It's not my money. But please remember this when the next game you love is released for $60 and you must by the ending, or see a screen pop up that says "please pay $29.99 to continue playing" as that's what you're telling the developers your comfortable with.

I would understand if this game offered a lot for your $60. I would. But as of right now this game is a massive joke and spits in the face of gamers as being acceptable.

Ignore the 10's, they're on drugs - Ignore the 0's, they've run out of drugs.
It's a bit of a 'meh' game, let down by a rigid multiplayer model, poor control and annoying recharge delays.
It's OK but is it enough to be my online staple of 2015? No.
I sold my copy while it's still worth a few quid (and before anyone notices that the critics have all got new sports cars with 2K logos on)

Some are just cosmetic skins and future use of Monsters, but if day one already has some DLC, I am sure you know what to expect. Watch a youtube video and within five minutes you will get the gist of the game. Use special abilities of each character to hunt down a large powerful monster and then run or separate when he charges you. Also..please take the time to look at the people who rate these games a 10. These people made an account today or a week ago and have rated this one game....coincidence? C'mon. I know Metacritic is full of trolls and idiots, but some honest personal reviews are on here too. Please, for the love of gaming and all that used to be good, avoid buying this game so 2K and the rest of the fat white bastards that run gaming companies start to understand that we are not all 12 years old, willing to pay 60 dollars for DLC every six months. ** From my perspective the game lacked generic competitive fps depth to satisfy me, and although there were certainly fun moments, I'm hard pressed to agree the accumulative day one price is justified for such an unexceptional, multiplayer focused game.

DLC: The Video Game (also known as Evolve) is a mediocre first person shooter (surprise surprise!) that brings nothing new to the genre other than lacklustre asymmetrical multiplayer and standard FPS shooting mechanics that are neither good or bad, just "meh".

No suspense whatsoever, no anything actually. You don't care who you're partnered with, you don't care about the skill development system which may as well have the word "mundane" plastered over the screen.

This is Titanfall, Destiny and every other FPS you've ever played and obviously are bored with completely rolled into one, but with one key difference - you don't own the game. You don't. Oh, you bought it alright, you're probably thinking "yes I do, look, it's there!" - but no, you own, what, 5% of the game? 95%, at least, is locked behind DLC. You want this game in full? Be prepared to pay £150 or something over the next six months. Not that, as a sane person, you would, because it's mediocrity personified, but this is what 2K Games wants you to do. Want a shiny new skin over your character models? £5 PLEASE. Want a new gun or something? £10 PLEEEEEASE...

This business practice will be what causes a gaming industry crash - it's a matter of time. Game companies are treating customers like braindead simpletons and it'll backfire obviously, as at some point people en masse will say "I'm not paying £50 for 5% of a game, especially a new IP that I have no idea about at all."

The positives? Graphically it's alright, but not amazing. Voice acting isn't particularly awful, but who the hell cares, really, as this is a game that should be a free to play shooter on PC or through PSN or whatever that has microtransactions to buy if you've played the game and enjoyed it.

WHY do game developers have an aversion to creating a quality game off the bat, full of content, then selling expansions and meaningful content if it's felt customers would go for it? The current practice of scummy companies like Ubisoft, EA and 2K are self-harming in the long term for short term gain, and they're too stupid to see it.

Delighted to see gamers rejecting this crap and scoring it 5.2 at the time of review - but that's not low enough. Give the middle finger to these cretins and reject this nonsense, as your money deserves some god-damn effort from developers.

The game itself is bland. It isn't anything special. It was released in a beta form much like Halo The Master Chief Collection where there are still a ton of bugs and the online lets you connect to about 5 matches in 3 hours.

It is another broken game released before reviews can be published which should tell you a lot.

Graphics are better than the alpha (i missed the beta) but they are nothing to write home about and the colour palette is not diverse enough. Gameplay involves a lot of running around until you finally find the monster. Aiming with the guns feels like it could be tighter. Aiming with the monster is pretty bad, Game would of benefited from operating in first person view versus third person and it would have made it much more immerse. Characters are weird and dialogue is beyond stupid. Would have been better if game allowed character creation, but instead you have to pick from a handful of weirdo's and you unlock more weird characters with better powers as you progress. Game revolves around accumulating "Experience Points" to raise your characters level and unlocking stuff so be prepared to grind. And if you prefer one character class over another, well you actually never get to choose: the server chooses for you, which mean accumulating "Experience Points" for you favourite character class can be hard because sometimes the games makes you play as another character class or the Monster. If you have real life friends online and can all manage to get a copy and be online at the same time then it can make for a fun experience. I paid 40$ for my PS4 copy (pre-order deal) and I would recommend you wait until it drops to 40$ or lower before you buy it. This review will undoubtedly attract the wrath of some fanboys but with 30 years of gaming behind me, including most of the biggest titles released over that time on multiple formats, I feel qualified to speak my mind.

Evolve is one of those games that I want to love. The idea is novel and I was hoping for so much from this game. In reality the game is a recipe for high blood pressure and/or self harm. It is totally unbalanced, especially if you want to play as the monster as I did. Four vs one should have been okay if the developers had taken appropriate steps to create an equal playing field. But alas that is not the case. If you have any interest in playing the monster, especially the first one you are lumbered with, the game becomes an absolute farce. Four hunters equipped with weapons and gadgets that can track you quickly, shoot you from a distance, drop hell-fire missiles on your immediate position, tie you to the spot with plasma chains, lay mines and throw up a dome plasma cage that traps you in a tight combat position, unable to escape, with those four hunters who can deploy all of those weapons against you, doing just that. Meanwhile you have no ability to regenerate health (other than by evolving - which you can't do under attack). You can attempt to regenerate armour by killing and eating wildlife, but you can't eat it when you are being shot.

What can the monster do? Well you can throw a rock which does pretty much no damage at all to the four hunters. You can swipe them, rush at them, do a plunge style attack or breathe fire at them. None of which deals damage anywhere near fast enough to get rid of any of the hunters in time to save your health bar sufficiently to make the game fair or even reasonable. And guess what, once you've thrown a rock or spent one of your other pointless powers, there's an infuriating cool down period to be waited out before you can do it again. Even when are breathing fire, you can't dish out the standard slash style swipes at the same time. No sir, one at a time please and just wait your turn for the next go. Meanwhile, all four hunters continue to relentlessly bombard you with their myriad of weapons at the time time.

And then there is the wildlife. When you are being attacked by the hunters, any creatures in the vicinity can have a pop at you as well. Very helpful and not in the least bit annoying.

Playing as a hunter is easier than the monster, but is invariably more boring. Unless you and your buddies are all hooked up on mic's speaking to each other, forget any preconception that you will feel part of a team. You will wander about, looking for where the other team players are going and will follow like a little sheep until you come across some action (unless you have chosen the tracker and are lucky enough to have been chosen to play the tracker by the server - yes, you can't even play the character you actually want to play most of the time in multiplayer as only one of each character is permitted in the round at any one time, unlike COD for example where you can choose who you want to be, what perks you want to have and stick with that to gain expertise and skill with that character. None of that here sir, choose the monster and you might play the medic. Choose the assault class and you might end up playing the tracker.)

Yes I prefer single player modes to multiplayer. But here both are as bad as each other. There is no forgiveness and nothing to tempt loyalty other than the grind of levelling up to achieve some extra perks or another monster to play with. Is it worth it though?

This game is SO disappointing and frustrating on so many levels. The most prominent emotion I am left with after 8 hours of tedious play is, and I regret this yet it is true, utter disdain (I nearly said hatred) for the developers of this utter pile of tosh.

Think very carefully before you part with your cash for this. I can not think of another game in my 30 years of gaming experience that is as unbalanced, as unfair or as enraging as this.

Ok, so the game is fun, aside from really requiring a group with headsets.

All the DLC, monsters, hunters, skins plus an actual campaign, would be about enough content for a 60 dollar game, but as it is, you pay 60 for the game, 15 for one of the next monsters, I'd assume 15 for the 5th monster, 6.99 for each set of monster skins, and like, what was it, 3.99 for the weapons skins

Listed like that, you're looking at nearly 200 bucks for all the content that would maybe be worth 40-50, total joke.

At least it's fun like I said, so if you already bought it like me, silver lining?

The first thing I would remove or revamp is the "OMG, I am wasting my life chasing a monster until he can become powerful enough to beat the living tar out of us" Hunt levels. These levels become excruciatingly more difficult if someone decides not to choose Maggie and IMO the only true thing able to track the monster, Daisy the most useful NPC. Towards the end, I just dumped games if they chose any other Trapper character. Maybe other people enjoy these levels, but I stopped enjoying hide and go seek when I was 8. I think one way to resolve the Hunt levels would be to make much smaller maps or to give every Trapper a tracking pet. Hunt levels are such a major component to the games that I think fixing these maps could go a long way in fixing the game.
My only other issue would be a ranked system or like ability component. For instance, if you play with one unskilled Trapper or Medic, you are screwed, Game Over, hit reset. On that same note, a horrible Monster makes for a boring, easy game. There really isn't a way to determine skill level before fully entering a game.
I don't think this game is deserving of less than a 4, but I think the hype and hopes people had crushed the reality, but I do think it has potential for growth.

My main problems with the game is lack of content that was described when first announcing the game, the idea of the tank battles from Left 4 Dead where panic induced struggles occur and barely missing swings from a monsters giant arm to avoid a death fall from 1,000 feet on top of a hospital, well there is none of that sense of urgency or panic that you get in this game, you do not feel like you are in control of anything, you are simply running around shooting weapons at monsters you basically never get a real look at or encounter that feels anything but important. I really would like to know how much time the developers spent playing the game and when did they think that the concept was ever coming together, you dont even feel like the monster is a physical being that can harm you other than by ghost mechanics, you struggle to use your jet-pack to stay close to the fight and keep an eye on a monster that quickly becomes un-important, i cant say enough bad things about this game its really overall just a terrible play. please slow the game mechanics down and make the encounters more intense and strategic maybe you will have a game. Lots of maps with good variety, only 3 monsters initially and 12 hunters although next week 3 new hunters and a new monster are going to be released. Gameplay works best when a team of 4 hunters work to their character strengths and communicate.

Having played a lot of Evolve the experience is soured by players running off to do their own thing and getting killed or not contributing to the goals of the game. If you are thinking of getting this game try playing with a mic and joining one of the PS4 Evolve community groups to find other players looking to team up and use mics.

Monsters feel well balanced and you can kill a poor team of hunters at stage 1 (when the monster is smallest and weakest) yet can easily loose to a good team of hunters at stage 3 when your strongest and at your largest. Teamwork really is everything.

A month in and it does feel that the player base has dropped a bit but with new characters about to drop it will be important to the long term community support of this game as to how further DLC is delivered.

Issues include, character speech in cut scenes not loading in, server connection issues stopping you playing online (you can play offline against/with bots which can be a harder experience to win), games dropping, players dropping out moments before they are going to loose.

Overall though as this is now available for around £30 just 4 weeks after release this is well worth getting, just remember running around solo like you do in COD or battlefield games won't work here and communication and teamwork are essential, then you will 1) love it 2) progress quickly.

A must have for the next gen.

I wont knock it down due to the lack of single player campaign or side missions which I desperately believe would have gave this game more life. Being multiplayer focused it is quite disappointing how much lack of content there is available. Hunt and Evacuation are the only game modes that are played due to the others being ridiculously favored towards either the monster or the hunter. While the overall gameplay is very fun, shooting a towering deadly monster or ripping apart the hunters using destructive abilities, the WAY Evolve is played is what makes this game repetitive. Once you have hunted one monster your pretty much in store for the exact same encounter every match. Being a hunter is fun too but either the match is going to end very fast because you caught the monster quick, or will be a long tedious chase towards the battle with a level 3 monster that kills the whole team with ease. These are the two ways the match can go in Evolve.

The progression system is also a bad note as it begs the use of selfish play in match just to progress you characters. There could have been a much better system in place. The final unlock within this system is the elite skins that are truly embarrassing to have even be worth all the time leveling up your favorite character. Most of the elite skins are not worth for all the hours spent leveling up your favorite characters.

While there is fun and intense battles to be had in Evolve there just way too few and far between to continue to play. I really feel the content is so repetitive and limited to warrant a buy. Personally with more friends the game could be even more fun but still not enough to last.

I do like the game just not enough here to recommend picking up at its current price even with the planned dlc coming out.

For 60$, you are not buying a complete game. Day one has a lot of DLC content that can be purchased, similar to apps from your phone. Basically, it's bad business to make a consumer pay full price for a game at 60$ and on top of that use a free to play business model, charging for everything.

The dlc wouldn't be a problem if the game was actually worth 60$. It's utterly bare bones. What depth? The meta of this game is as shallow as a raindrop. Little to no aiming skill is required considering you're shooting at, well, a big ass monster. Every monster has only 4 abilities. Abilities are simple, largely unoriginal, and casual friendly (in the worst of ways). The idea of the game may seem neat, but too often you play the player, not the "game." Besides, even though other modern fps' out there are not inherently asymmetrical in terms of team balance- I frequently find myself in 1 vs 3+ scenarios, so, nothing too innovating on that front. It's really the hunting experience that is the most unique- and its a bore. At least they were realistic about that. Coupled with average graphics, too little game modes, repetitive map themes, stupid a.i., and borderline worthless single player action- I'm hard pressed to say this game is anything other than a failure w/ some shallow fun attached. I highly recommend waiting to purchase despite player count drop (skill gap increase is actually minimal imo).

Evolve: Adapt or Die … and die, and die a bunch more times. And then probably die again.

I’m going to frame this by admitting that I’m bad at video games. I’m particularly bad at first person shooters. Now take all that badness and “evolve” that three times and you’ll understand how bad I am at FPS, competitive-online games. The only reason I picked up Evolve was because I’ve got exactly 4 other PS4 friends who are always down for trying online games.

Unfortunately, Evolve is so immediately difficult and cryptic that it turned off half of my playgroup, and left me playing lots of solo and multiplayer with random, headset-less clowns named “HedSHOTZZ_00”, thus further distancing me from “the way the game is supposed to be played.”

Here’s what makes this game such a tough game to enjoy right off the shelf:
    1. The tutorial teaches you basic button usage for two characters: one monster, and one of the 12 hunters. There is no campaign or advanced tutorials that ease you into the right way to play these characters.
    2. The HUD is immediately filled with tons of information, but no context as to what it means.
    a. What’s that icon over the hunting dog-lizard’s head? A claw? A question mark?
    b. Why did a Jurassic Park icon appear in the top right corner with a steadily decreasing gauge?
    c. I accidentally found the map (that the game never tells you about) by pressing the touchpad, but now there’s even MORE symbols all over the place
    3. Since you’re going to suck at hunting the monster at first, expect to spend about 10 minutes just wandering around getting lost in maps you don’t know, and not really shooting anything
    4. Since you’re going to suck at being the monster, expect to get trapped in a force-field they never tell you about and get picked apart and not understand why
    5. Your hunter abilities show up on the screen in the d-pad configuration of up-down-left-right; but joke’s on you, they’re actually mapped to L1, R1, Circle, and Triangle of course!
So if you like buying a game, and then immediately losing and dying for about 2 or 3 hours, then this game is for you!

But as an old person, with limited amount of time due to husbandly duties (and not the fun kind), I want to immediately have fun and feel like a badass when I’m playing games. Stealth kills in Shadow of Mordor make you feel brutally powerful, even in the early stages. Being a giant monster in Evolve, however, feels like I’m a handicapped, confused oaf. Even with a direct hit from a giant lava-rock, all I see is an indeterminate health bar shrink somewhat. And that’s best-case scenario – if they activated their shield, or the Support guy used HIS shield on your target, or the medic immediately healed their wounds, you feel like a helpless ape who just wasted his time.

When you get bored of dying as the monster, you can switch over to the Hunters and have a completely new and confusing control schema to get used to and get ready to die some more! Monster skills are absolutely not transferrable to the Hunters, so specializing with the monster simply makes you a clumsier Hunter at first.

This clumsiness is amplified in most online games, as the matchmaking system often plugs you into an already in-flight game, with a character you might not even be familiar with (and might even be incapacitated). Meanwhile your teammates most likely won’t be communicating with you, and you’ll often be fighting against a monster-player who is amazing and will decimate your disorganized team, or a total rookie who gets destroyed in minutes.

With all that said, I actually did start to enjoy the game after discovering that Defend was the right place to start leveling up guys and trying out abilities consistently. The 15 characters play very differently and after 10+ hours of unlocking guys through a system that’s not immediately clear or explained, the tactical depth and teamwork opportunities are quite good. The maps are beautiful, but also visually similar and very easy to get lost in.

This is a shame, really, because the game could be easily be more amazing with some basic tenants of modern gaming. Where are my sweet “finishers” for each character class? Give the monster a series of button-smashes that let me eviscerate a downed hunter. Let Hyde’s flamethrower start the forest on fire, and “smoke out” the monster. How about a few of the classic oil barrels laying around so there’s something in the environment that can add damage rather than the hit-or-miss elite wildlife?

Ultimately, this game feels like a $60 Spelunky; learn lessons by paying the iron-price over and over, and get your feel-good moments by slowly mastering an exceedingly nuanced shooter.

Target Gamer Audience: Online pros who love to decimate people through time-earned skill development

Recommendation: Play Rogue Legacy and die a bunch in that PS-Plus free game while you wait for this to drop to $20, then buy some copies for yourself and some friends for Xmas 2015

When I first saw this game it really got me hyped, a new type of multiplayer teambased game that just seemed to fill a certain hole in the FPS genre, sadly after testing the Alpha on PC I realized how bland it really is.

Repetitive game-play with the good old cat and mouse except I just found myself extremely bored after only a few games, the "early access" in form of the Alpha really turned me off in so many ways.

The last nail in the coffin was the reveal of DLCs and pre-order things for the game, you essentially don't have to play it to unlock stuff, yay for effort!

I was very excited for this title. It became immediately apparent however, that a very large amount of content was stripped from the core game to be sold separately as DLC. With so many better alternatives out there, this is hardly worth your time. This is one title you can safely pass on.

The Brute menacing monster's in Evolve play well and can be genuinely terrifying when your on the other side and they are hunting you vice versa, but unfortunately this experience was ruined, this game has some serious bugs at one point I was with my team gaming and speaking with them next thing they all froze, uneven match up's is another mishap I found myself being the support class most of the time even though I set the game to choose random. Evolve also consists of bland maps with no atmosphere it would have been interesting if they added other NPC's or even changed the environments depending on the destruction of the monster allies and creatures, instead what ended up happening was everything just felt placed as if I were on Earth or Mars fighting against the Fallen in Destiny.

There's also not much lore or background to the monsters, other creatures or even the colony that supposedly died from the unknown monster attack, I didn't feel like I was somewhere were there had been a lot of history formed before the destruction of the monsters instead what I got was just a small voice-over introduction and repetitive menu-screen cut-scenes. Evolve is a game with repetitive gameplay (which I enjoy playing if done right examples League of Legends, Destiny, FFXIV) but if a game is to base it's center point on repetitive gameplay it must be fun and most definitely not have the player being bored after the four hour mark. I've played free to play games with more content and gameplay hours than Evolve.

Final Verdict Evolve should be a free to play game there ain't enough content for it to be a feasible AAA game and the content that is available is micro-transactions not to mention the bland maps and little history and background to basically everything.

This game, like Left For Dead, was overhyped. At least unlike Left For Dead it is not being overrated. I advise you rent it in coordination with a group of friends on a weekend. Play, return the rental and you will never revisit this game again. Wash, rinse, repeat........or instead evolve and drop, flush, forget.

You spend all the game running around chasing the monster only to have it "Evolve", turn around and kill everybody in the team in less than a few minutes. It will always be the same recycled thing/experience at the end. It's easy to make that free specially if you are going with the billion dlcs model... but you all don't need to worry because what really changes the game and add diversity to your gameplay(and not much in the case of hunter because the most part are just stronger versions of the basic hunters you don't have to unlock) can be bought through awesome DLCs, all of them wonderfully priced as just 25% and 14% of the game price for new monsters and hunter(each unit of course, 2k has deep pockets to fill). It is so awesome, so much fun, so much content...but not. Oh and also the already lacking content is partially locked in the beginning because they know only the innocent players grinding can keep this mess alive for more than two weeks. It's a shame psn is not willing to offer me a refund. Don't make the same mistake as me. When I first heard about the game, I found it to be an interesting concept. However, the "hunt" (not much hunting involved) isn't very exciting and the game handles poorly. The lack of fluidity and intuitiveness in the controls reminded me of a crappy 3rd party developed game (not all are crappy, but many are).

It is $20 Alpha stage game on steam. There are very few maps and characters (unless you buy skins), nothing to unlock, no customization, and not much of a reason to play. It literally has less content than Destiny (which, less face it, was extremely lacking in content).

Not worth $60 + the $60 skins if you happened to buy that crap. I honestly can't even recommend it for a rental, unless your insanely bored for a weekend.

I was pretty much expecting Left 4 Dead and while its there, it lacks something major.

Proper match making.and control of match making.

This is what really kills the whole game for me.

I've played this game for about three days now for online and have only played as the monster twice, and the Assault Class about 5 times. Three days...that's a lot of game time. What was the point of asking me to pick the top classes I would like to play as, when I can barely have the chance to play as the top two? Let us set up our own lobbies and be able to pick our own class or join a random in progress game as said class. I have zero desire to be a trapper or Medic. ZERO DESIRE. I HATE those the classes This is seriously the only problem I have with this game. The lack of actual control of creating and setting up matches. Everything is....random.. I LOVE this game and enjoy it greatly...but my god.

LET US SET UP OUR OWN GAMES AND PICK OUR OWN CLASSES LIKE ] L4D

now the DLC everyone is complaining about...Its simple. Dont buy it. Vote with your wallets. Right now its useless skins that serve no purpose nor give you an advantage

Now $15 for ONE Monster? That is steep. Steep enough to the point that I will not waste $15 on one monster. or $7.00 on ONE hunter. I will simply not buy this DLC, like I do with 98% of games. I seriously believe the last form of DLC I brought was for Fallout 3 and that's because it was actually worth it.

All the skins in that store though should be unlockable by winning a certain amount of matches. They are skins. Just re-textures or recolors of current outfits. Not worth the $2.99 I personally feel. If IO HAD to pay for this stuff, at the most I would only pay $00.99. These skins do nothing for the game play, nor do they change the actual game flow. The Season Pass is obviously a rip off conceived by both Gamestop and 2K. The Season Pass for $24.99 only gives you three new hunters and skins for three monsters. Thats it. It doesn't cover future content. Hence the name "Hunting Pass" but notice how We over at Gamestop sells it as a "Season Pass"? yeah. Be smarter people. I never push DLC onto people unless my manager is there and thats because I have to or I'll get fired.

And anyone who gives a game a 0 because it has something they don't like or a 10 because they want to counter the 0s is completely invalidating the idea of user reviews.

User reviews aren't supposed to be a tool for getting your way or supporting some cause, they're supposed to be an accurate representation of how you think the pros and cons stack up. Unless the game doesn't work, it isn't a 0, and if it isn't perfect, it isn't a 10. This is why critic reviews are usually the only ones worth anything.

As for the game, it has balance issues sometimes. It punishes anyone's failure, out of the 5 people involved, very harshly. It has replayability issues: it won't be fun after a few dozen hours. But a few dozen hours is as much as I really expect out of any game, short of a new Elder Scrolls game. And the punishing nature really makes a good plan coming together feel *#$%ing awesome, and really ratchets up the tension. Solid good game, light on features, looks and handles great. Solid 8 points.

That's a very short period of time nowadays for a multi-player game. Some reviews complained about the grind to open all the monsters and characters at the start, but that was actually the fun part. That's what kept me playing, hoping to find out that the next character was awesome. But, once I'd opened them and knew which monster I enjoyed the most, and which hunters I liked the best, the game got boring fast. I thought it would have longer legs because it is very different playing as a monster than it is playing as a hunter, and each monster and each hunter take different strategy. But the biggest problems are that the maps don't deliver varied enough experiences and the extra game modes aren't that great. Also, compared to Left 4 Dead, which I've sunk unlimited hours into and is still a blast to play today, the 4 v. 1 format doesn't lead to good rivalries, because your teams aren't flipping sides and changing roles. All in all, to keep it interesting, it needs more game types, more varied maps, more monsters, and more hunters. But they are going to charge $15 for each new monster and $25 for the package of 4 new hunters. That just seems crazy too me. If you really want to try the game, I recommend waiting a year or so till you can buy the Game of the Year edition(if it even gets one) that has much more content on it and sells for a discounted price. Then it might be worth it. Expand

The average match as a monster involves about 10-15 minutes of simply eating animals and nothing else, you're far too weak in the early forms to fight the hunters to you need to run until you reach your 3rd form. At this point the hunters don't have much else to do but chase after you and the flocks of birds you scare along the way. Then once the monster is at his strongest he can seek out the hunters or destroy a uninteresting large machine called a power relay.

Seeing as the game in general has such an egregious lack of content, what little it does have forces the player to play to unlock just about everything. It's somewhat insulting that the game was released with over 80$ of DLC. Most of which is $6 for just 3 skins... Who really gives a flying pigs ass cheeks about skins? I was also extremely dissatisfied to learn that the game only included 3 monsters in total, the rest would be released in future DLC. seeing as you're entire gameplay is dependent on the appeal of the characters gameplay, more than 3 beasts should be available. Thusly due to the lack of content, Evolve becomes old very quickly, After about 3 days of hoping it would get better, I quickly switched back to Dark Souls 2, and will quietly await Bloodborne.

On a side note, my last comment is about something I don't see many people bring up. I may be mistaken but are there people suppose to be on an alien planet? Because the few maps that this game does offer, are all set in an almost identical looking forrest, not unlike any average forest I've seen on earth, short of a few strange looking rocks. The concept artists really needed to get more creative with the environment....

This game was obviously designed with the mindset that it should only be played with a small group of your closest friends. The problem with this approach is that it makes online matchmaking like Russian Roulette.
If the team of Hunters has one newbie, and you're facing even a half-competent Goliath, you are going to get ruined. If the Goliath player is new, and the Hunters are even just run-of-the-mill FPS gamers, the Goliath has no chance...and don't even get me started on players who have unlocked the Wraith.
I still have no idea how that thing got out of QA.
Balance issues abound in this game. I'm not even docking the score for the DLC/microtransaction nonsense that most people are up-in-arms about.
The game itself, and its wildly unbalanced approach, are enough.
The game is beautiful, and the worlds are filled with life beyond just the combatants...sometimes, a bit too rich. This is one of the biggest drawbacks. Another example of a prime concept that the developers couldn't take to the house.
I grant that it may be far more enjoyable for a group of hardcore FPS buddies who can all sit down and commit the majority of their gaming time to it...however, for the rest of the gaming community, this is definitely a title you can miss out on.

Developers like these don't make games because they love doing it and expect to make something out of it, they do it just for making something out of it. Here you see a job being put to practice, not passion.

For the content you get, this game is not worth it. Basically a game that has as much content as a free to play game, which means that its not much and everything else is locked behind pay walls, but the game itself also costs a whopping 60$ to get into.

Move on, ignore this. You'll have no regrets.

The truth is it's a 30$ game max. Heck, i would wait for a steam sale because these kinds of games are destined for the %75 off bin.

Worth a weekend rental, but it won't last much longer unless you manage to find 4 friends with the same time schedule. The gameplay gets repetitive very fast.

Also customers should punish this DLC policy, where "full game" has only half of the monsters and the other half are paid DLC.

I'd rate this game a 9 but gave it a 10 because of all the fake hate reviews from people who have obviously not played the game. Let me start off by going over what others have said.

I'd rate this game a 9 but gave it a 10 because of all the fake hate reviews from people who have obviously not played the game. Let me start off by going over what others have said.

    - "There's no variation, the DLC practices are an abomination and there's not enough content." --- Wow, this must be someone who only played the beta and read what others said about the DLC. There are multiple modes to this game. Besides playing online with others or solo with the bots, you have multiple modes like Rescue, Nest, Defend, and Hunt. You can play each individually across all the maps (Defend has it's own four maps), or in Extraction where you play across five game days (matches) where maps, modes, and bonuses are never the same. I don't need to go into detail because you can find details on all this on IGN, Gamespot, or any other gaming site.

The DLC is just skins. You are not buying new weapons or characters for the game. You get three boss monsters and twelve hunters with a lot of variety. I unlocked all the hunters over a couple of days and am working to level them up and unlock more perks. I love having all the choices, depending on what mode I'm playing. I also like each class is different and how you have to work together. You have your Support, Medic, Assault, and Trapper classes. It's more like Battlefield 4 than Left 4 Dead with how the classes work. The three monsters are very different too. You have to use different tactics against each monster. When fighting as the monster, you can pick you abilities and level them up based on the mode you are playing.

With the 12 maps, 3 Monsters, 12 hunters, multiple modes, and random bonuses in Extraction, the game always feels different. Again, you can get better at playing the game by just going up against the bots. They play as well as they did in Left 4 Dead.

    - "You buy the game for 60 dollars and then need to spend even more money to enjoy the game to its fullest" --- Not sure what game you bought for $60 and had to spend more to enjoy it, but it wasn't Evolve. I'm having more than enough fun with this game. I've played all the modes online and with the bots. I have no desire to buy any skins and you are not being forced to buy any of it. Why does everyone keep complaining about it? Remember the horse armor in Oblivion? I bought it because it made my horse look cool. I didn't complain about it because it was optional. Doesn't change the game in any way. Stop all the talk about the DLC.

There is another Monster and four more characters coming out in a few months. The Season Pass is $24.99 and will pay for this content. Do you have to buy it? No! The developer has stated that you will be able to play against the monster in your game and will see the other characters in games. You will just not be able to play them yourself unless you buy them. If you don't buy them, you are not being cut off from all the other players. It's not like COD where someone else buys the maps, but you can't play them now because you don't have the maps. This will not happen with Evolve. They stated that any new maps will be free. Myself, I'm going to get the Season pass when the new content is ready to be released. I'm really enjoying the game.

    - " is a mediocre first person shooter (surprise surprise!) that brings nothing new to the genre" --- Where have you played a game like this before? I really feel like I'm out on a hunting trip in Jurassic Park! I have a blast. Sometimes we get to the monster early and kill it and other times we are hunting until it reaches level 3 and we head it of at the base. I do think they have some balancing to do, but they have already stated that they are working on this. I'm still having a great time with the game. I'm trying to level up each of the hunters now.

    -----------------------------

Take time to read some reviews from sites like IGN or Game Informer. They have been playing the game for some time now and have even had play time with the developers. I'll believe what Ryan McCaffrey says over someone who is just bashing the game because they think there is a DLC issue or not enough content. Looking at most of the user reviews, it looks like people are just trying to bring down the score without even really trying the game.

Read real reviews for more info on the game. That is why I decided to buy it. It is really different from the other games I've played. The graphics are top notch and really put you into that world. With the day one patch, load times are better than they were in the beta. This is one game that is really getting a raw deal from users just looking for something to bash. The more I play it, the more I'm enjoying it. You can't play this like COD or just any other shooter. You need to pick the right hunter for the mode you are playing and monster you are fighting.

(Sorry for any grammar or spelling problems. I just typed this up and didn't proof it. I just want to get home and play more Evolve!)

Overall Turtle Rock did a great job on making sure the game is balanced.

I can't wait for free addition content to be released. Your choice if you would rather stick to a generic fps. This isn't GOTY material, but it's still worth trying out, even if your just a solo player.

This is not the only thing wrong with this game trust me on that, Playing as the monster is fun sure but when you are not playing as the monster it is the most boring experience you will ever have basically a virtual hide and seek game.
Then there are the Graphics which are pretty damn poor for a "Next Gen only" game.
This game is not worth your money I was bored after 3 games even Titanfall kept me entertained for at least a week or so but this just cemented the reality that these Online only games all suck they shouldn't charge full price then have the nerve to charge for DLC if the game was £20 cheaper then maybe but not at full retail price I am sorry but I have already had enough and am selling the game even Destiny was less disappointing then this.
Also would of gave the game a four but because some people are being giving the game a 10 to counter people expressing an issue with a truly disgusting business practice I will give a 0.

You shouldn't charge $15 dollars a monster when the base game is already severely lacking in content. It is an extremly underhanded thing to do. Evolve is a good game but isn't for everyone. If you plan on playing as a lone wolf, don't have a headset, don't work well with others, or all of the above then you will not like this game.

To those without internet connections, you may as well avoid this game. There is a single player but it's not a cinematic campaign with detailed characters, great music, cutscenes, and atmosphere. It is simply an offline version of the multiplayer but with AI either assisting you as hunters or playing as the monster. It works if you are bored, or want some practice before jumping into multiplayer.

Multiplayer is fun and refreshing. In a genre full of 6v6, 12v12, and so on it's nice to see asymmetrical multiplayer games. The classes are simple yet effective in this type of game. Each with their own abilities and weapons that assist your efforts to kill the player posing as a vicious and deadly beast. The combat is fast paced and extremely tense towards the later parts of the match but admittedly many players that currently play as the monster have adopted the, excuse my language, **** approach. I say this because it isn't very fun to spend 20 minutes running around a map looking for something that purposefully avoids a fight so it can hit stage 3 of the monster's evolution. It is understandable to avoid the hunters until stage 2 but once stage 2 has been achieved the monster is more than capable of surviving and possibly killing the enemy team. The lack of incentive to take the fight to the hunters is upsetting but once your opponent decides to attack the game becomes a satisfying battle of skill, coordination, and just a bit of luck.

The graphics are great and the game runs well most of the time. There are some noticeable frame rate losses (ps4) that I've noticed but most likely will be fixed at some point. The music is sub par hut fits the sci fi style of the game and the environments are well detailed. This game has its fair share of annoying bugs that should have been halted at beta ie... fps stutter, game disconnects, characters becoming stuck, and ranks resetting but these are all fixable if the developer works fast enough.

As it is right now i say the game is enjoyable and worth the money. One thing that I will stress, however, is to fully appreciate playing as a hunter you will want friends instead of randoms. This game is miserable in that regard which is why it isn't an 8/10 for me.

Ultimately you should see some videos of letsplayers, or rent this game if you are skeptical but it is great fun when your team works well.

Let's start with few things this game gets right; Playing as the both hunters and the monster is really fun, The maps are greatly designed, and the whole gameplay takes a refreshing new breath from the military fps genre.

Now for the bad part; People only seem to be interested in paling the hunt game mode when there are other modes to choose. Each hunters have cliche look and cliche personality (loud, obnoxious, joker, etc). Even though I said the gameplay is refreshing, it gets old very quick. And of course, we have the dlc **** Oh man, is it a terrible feature. First off, the whole different dlc bundles thing was a **** marketing for the profit. Second, this means Evolve is now a pay-to-win. Third, $2 for and **** blue skin? Are they mad?

Conclusion; It has met same fate as Destiny and Warframe. Little to no content unless you pay. Now excuse me, I need to go to trade this piece of crap in to pre-order Batman:AK
