Easy to play, even easier to lose yourself in, Eastshade is a beautiful storytelling experience unlike anything else seen in the RPG genre.

A combat-free, refreshingly wholesome and decadent exploration focused yarn, Eastshade celebrates the spirit of discovery with aplomb and feels like the closest you'll get to a digital holiday.

A game where you play as a traveling artist and use the landscape and townsfolk as your inspirations to make paintings. You can sell these paintings, fulfill special requests, or even keep them for yourself if you love it enough. The games uniqueness mainly comes from how your paintings are made. A blank canvas is crafted out of cloth and wood, and you select your own aspect ratio before proceeding. Then within this aspect ratio, you basically take an in-game screenshot and watch your painting drawn out right in front of you. This game is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. I couldn’t walk 10 feet without wanting to break out the easel and create something from what I see. With NPCs and wildlife looking and animating a little goofy, you can tell the environments are mainly where they focused on graphics; which isn’t a bad thing at all since this is what you’ll spend 99% of your time focusing on. You go from town to town listening and talking to others, following sub-stories and completing little side quests all incorporating your painting abilities. The writing and dialogue is quite good in this one. You actually want to be involved and help out within these small communities. I have yet to run into any “people” in this though. Every NPC is a humanoid-looking animal which I think enhances the experience by giving it more of a fantasy-like setting. For example: monkeys, deer, bears, owls, etc all act and talk like humans. You’ll see what I mean if you play. I’ve been getting MAJOR Oblivion feelings from playing this. So much so, it’s almost nostalgic to the hours and hours I spent in the world of Elder Scrolls 4, while also giving me slight ‘Myst’ vibes here and there. I really want to say this game is heavily inspired by those from its outstanding visuals and its MUSIC. Oh my gosh the soundtrack to this game is brilliant. Due to the game’s calming, mysterious world, you won’t find any parts to the score bombastic or tumultuous. I’d be willing to buy it separately if it was ever available in a physical form. -- Looks like it’s available on all main platforms for a pretty low price of 20 or 25 bucks from where I’m from. I’ve only come across small issues like subtle frame rate slowdowns and look sensitivity jumps, but nothing to ever break my emersion. Take a break from all the intense and action packed or competitive gaming. With that being said: roll a joint, pour some whiskey (or whatever you do) and relax with ‘Eastshade’. I’m only a few hours into it and have been thinking about it nonstop. -Brad Full Review »

I would have to start over, and I assume would end up running into the same bug again. I found a thread on the steam forums talking about this issue since 2019 and they still haven't fixed it. Do yourself a favor and avoid wasting $25. Full Review »

Though being an indie game it has some technical difficulties, especially on ps4, but I really enjoyed this experience and wish to play more non violent games like this. I want to believe that there is a future where AAA games are more like Eastshade. Full Review »
