Some interesting elements here such as the crafting section. The characters are quite good and the dialog is sharp & funny. There are lots of bugs though, some even meant I had to erase my save file and start the game over from scratch. You can only play one type of game at a time as there is only room for one save file. The crafting while interesting is slow, clumsy, the icons too small. The missions are repetitive and you feel like you are playing the same level over and over. Had potential but could have been much better. Expand

The wealth of content is staggering, even if the hardcore Souls-esque difficulty keeps casual players from being able to see or appreciate much of it. But like Demon's/Dark Souls, DFS offers a great sense of accomplishment and reward if you can brave its challenges. That's not to say DFS's initial launch was flawless, but Grimm Bros has more than made up for any hiccups with constant support and software patches. They really listen to the fans and are tirelessly making improvements to the game, despite it already being a rich experience as-is. Mainstreamers need not apply, though. DFS revels in deep combat mechanics and a unique set-your-own-pace blend of strategic turn-based and real time elements. It is also among very few games I've seen make intelligent use of its procedurally-generated maps, as the environments are much more nuanced than the repeating corridors you'd typically expect, and landmarks keep locations feeling familiar even amongst the randomness. There are also plenty of mini-games and side quests to fill your grind, and character/skill customization boasts tremendous depth. The visual style is slick, too, and it's refreshing to play a retro-inspired indie game that isn't made up of equally retro pixel art. The bottom line is, if you enjoy a challenge and understand what to expect in a roguelike RPG, Dragon Fin Soup is a must-play title on any platform, and despite its inspirations being well-worn territory since the 80s and 90s, Grimm Bros has still managed to bring some new ideas to the table. For that, we can afford an indie dev some patience and more dedicated fandom, especially since DFS is still one of the earliest crowdfunded game projects to deliver on promises with an actual release. Good work, guys! Expand

clunky big mess, and confusing. Those are the words that describe this game the best. It's a big disaster, the controls are just dreadful, and the overall experience is just horrendous.

0/10, but only for the PS4 version of the game.

This Indie dev team has put together a really nice game, but the PS4 version of it was, according to them, outsourced. Now, whenever you ask the developers what's going on with the PS4 patch they will copy paste a "we can´t access that code, it´s outsourced, blablabla", and that is if they even reply at all (their last statement about this is from November last year) and there is absolutely 0 information from Blitworks (the team responsible for the port).

Worth a note, Blitworks has even removed EVERY reference to this game from their site.

It really is a shame, mostly because the game looks really fun but sadly it´s unplayable on PS4.

It's a very mixed bag for me. Since it came out free for PS+, I am slightly biased towards the game and yet I still can't entirely recommend it. I mean, I'm really in need of good RPGs right now, and a rogue-like strategy-based challenging loot-heavy game really seemed to fill that spot. However, since it came out, I just...I don't know, I'm not seeing it. It feels almost uninspired, which is weird since this game is huge coming from such a small game developer. The characters don't seem all that interesting, the game just becomes a grind after the first hour and once you start dying because there is a random enemy placed in the first area leveled 20 levels above you because, why not? You begin getting bored of the game.

Truly this game had great potential, but it's just not that fun of a game. It's very neat trying out all the equipment, seeing what random loot you can find as you adventure, but other than that there really isn't much going for it.

This game is terrible. As a Kickstarter backer, I am extremely disappointed in how it turned out. It lacks anything that would make me want to keep playing it. I wouldn't even waste the bandwidth or hard drive space downloading it for free on PlayStation Plus. This is not worth your time.

I think this is the first time I review a game with 0.
This game definitely deserves it. I know it comes from an indie developer and so, low budget, etc, etc.
Well, that is not an excuse to release and make people pay for that piece of crap. I guess the worst is that is by very very far the buggiest game I have ever seen. That is simply objective. I can't believe the game's publishers

The UI and controls are simply horrible. Probably the UX is a bit better with a mouse and a keyboard, but once more, if you can't release a decent product, don't do it.

The graphics assets (weapons, NPC, enemies, decoration) might appeal some people because of the retro feeling, but they don't appeal me. I find them rather lame, considering the 90s are long gone.

I friggin' love it!! totally addicted, the world looks awesome, the gameplay is cool, the crafting and stuff is cool. The NPC's are funny, and even though it's turn based it is still fast paced.
so what that it's not an entirely new game concept.... how many games re really original today?
My only negative point is that some things could have been explained a bit better, like power

This game is wonderful. Don't look at the negative reviews or even the mixed reviews. These people worked hard for this project. They put their heart and soul into it. I beg you. Please please please try something new.
I do not understand the point to recreate a game that was created thousands of times.
    Nothing original, nothing special.

The game is a mess, simply unplayable. Bugs everywhere, crashs all the time, impossible to get the Platinum Trophy and even if for some miracle you're able to play, is just a mediocre game overall.

I have to agree that this was an ambitious project from the studio but unfortunately, the controls are clunky and this makes the game very difficult to play if not, barely impossible. I recommend to wait until this game is on sale or free to play. Although it costs now around 20 bucks, it's still a high price for the quality of the product.

Dragon Fin Soup is a challenging title, definitely not suitable for every audience. The large amount of things to do , however, is partly compromised by procedural mechanics of both missions and landscapes and a poor user interface. The result is a quite boring experience, especially in the long term.

If you like roguelikes, then this game is worth a try. The problem is that it might not be the best option for players new to the genre nor for veterans. But if you're somewhere in between, it can be a good choice.

If not outstanding, at least Dragon Fin Soup tries to offer a varied gameplay mechanics and a captivated atmosphere. Some hiccups harm the experience, though.
