Dragon Age Inquisition is a very good game. You really feel as though you are affecting the world constantly. However it didn't quite live up to all the promise it had. However it didn't quite live up to all the promise it had. In demo' sat E3 & pax they showed things that never appeared in game, such as telling soldiers in a battle to save a town or to attack and then living with the consequences. However your decisions in this game mattered none the less. You truly feel as if you are the head of an organization that is helping this world be a better place.

The world itself is probably the biggest game on next gen so far. It consists of atleast 10 massive location from deserts to Forrest's to plains. The opponents are also varied as are the dragons. This game also has the best crafting system I have seen in a game. You can have dozens of furs, cloths, metals, or gems that all do different things to different armor or weapons you craft. The story isn't the best story ever, and the villain is dumbed down a bit. But the game isn't about the villain. It's about you and your followers, you build relationships with them all and delve into their pasts and their hopes and dreams. Based on the choices you make for them they can become a much different person from one play through to the next.

This game also has hours upon hours of content. If you are one of those gamers that likes to 100% everything plan to play this game for 100's of hours. I put in over 200+ hrs on 2 speedster play throughs and didn't even do half the quests.

The leveling system is ok but not great and I wish the skill trees branched out a little more. The combat could of been a little more complex but it satisfies none the less.

At the end of the day as of right now dragon age is the best rpg on PS4 (transistors a close 2nd but it's too short) in terms of content you can't get more bang for your buck, and it's just fun. If you like RPG's you can't go wrong with this game. If your going to buy one game this year, if it was me, this would be it.

Modern RPG developers seem to forget that great games can be great games in SPITE of some things they do. For whatever reason this hasn't rung true for some companies. I suspect Bioware ( among many others ) has yet to grasp this.

Lets start with questing. Using WoW ( the most popular MMORPG on the market and a clear influence on this title ) we see a lot of reused templates we'll call filler. Navigate to the exclamation points, pick up a quest, find it on the map and complete it for a little reward. This system works as delivery mechanism for content. The problem is the content it delivers usually has nothing to do with winning the game. In fact, you could probably skip more than half of it and still beat the game. It is also used ad nauseam which is another problem with these systems.

In this case, the Bioware developers took a known system from a popular MMORPG and reused it without asking themselves if the system was what brought people to the game. I'll give you another example. The crafting collection process.

In this game, you collect resources much like you do in WoW. A herb or mining node lights up and you interact with it to obtain it. Each. And. Every. Craft. Mat. You. Need. Must. Be. Looted. By. Hand. Things like this are a good example of how WoW can be a great game in SPITE of some of the things it does which cannot be confused with fun. Nobody likes farming nodes in WoW.

Note how many WoW players get banned for running quest bots, collect bots, fishing bots, BG bots, etc. If people are getting banned for botting it odds are pretty good it isn't a fun part of the game.

I miss the original Dragon Age: Origins. It felt like a true successor to the Baldur's Gate franchise. It could have been even more epic but they were on the right path. They've fallen in love with other games and have retooled some of the worst features in those games to incorporate into their work. That's tragic really. Dragon Age Inquisition is a BEAUTIFUL game to look at and the story really isn't all that bad. The problem will always be in how the content is delivered. Dragon Age Inquisition does a shameful job in that regard.

In a future iteration I'd like to see them return to a smaller, tightly woven storyline with sub plots that are all wound up before the final ( main ) plot is.

I'd love to see them throw this material collection system into the trash where it belongs. It isn't fun running around clicking on mine veins. Give me an option to drop a flag and have my army of peons do it for me. Or make it part of the war table.

I'd love to say every one of my 80 hours playing this game were a blast. The truth is they weren't because a good portion of those hours were spent trying to access some node on the map to close out a quest that didn't matter in the greater scheme of things.

Not a bad game just not a great game and not as good as the original.

I finished the game. The story is incredible. Really deep and interesting and extremely well told. The ending was great and redeemed the problems I have with the mmo like structure of this single player game. I think when you look at it realistically ;), what Bioware did was add in a bunch of huge locales with lots to do, but not much depth. They put this open world gargantuan on top of a narrative structure that is very similar to DA:2, the war table is the frame. This is fan service at its best, really. DA:2 was all narrative, with little exploration. DA:I is the same 30-40 hour narrative put within a huge world. However, a world with not much actual meaning or exposition in terms of player experience. The player is forced into exploring in order to essentially 'level up' the story. This gets boring at best, after around 20 hours, and then it gets annoying, and then it gets frustrating, and then it seems unbearable. So if you are a story nut, like me, do as little exploring as possible, trust me. I went almost everywhere and there is nothing that really shines in terms of sidequests or discovered quests. They all just seem empty, although some contain good lore, which is a plus if you are into reading a lot of lore on the screen. An overall decent game which is redeemed through its story. Expand

Great game. It looks really, really good on the PS4. Lots to do on maps, and the war table is a nice addition. My only real complaint is that I wish there were more options to customize ability branches. Also, the tactical camera is a nice addition, but I never really use it for much on normal setting.

The story is standard fantasy fare, but any rpg gamer sees those all the time. Characters are good enough, there are dialogues, romancing is back, as well as fighting in a party of 4 the player controls. This part in the series features large open areas to explore, which are beautifully designed and full of stuff to do. As a player, your job is to set up an inquisition that has to defeat a demon invasion. Players are able to influence the functioning of this inquisiton; which characters join, which missions to take, build up fortifications and camps to increase influence over areas, etc. The sound effects are good enough, the music is beautiful, and the whole game breathes high fantasy well enough. Finally, the controls are perfectly fit for a controller. All in all, a fine RPG and I am happy a game like this finally has arrived on the PS4. It's my personal game of the year!

One thing though: I play on the 'hard' difficulty setting and it feels more like 'normal'. So, if you want some challenge and having to use the tactical view do put the game on hard before you start!
The only negative point I can come up with is the fact that clearing an area of all activities feels very much like an Assassin's Creed game or WoW, which means you're kind of racing through all the icons on the map to grey them out. I prefer no icons and real exploration. Still, you won't find any better rpg on the PS4.

A PUBLISHER is in charge of marketing and advertisement, as well as financial backing and in some cases other small perks (office space, extra hands when meeting a deadline, etc.). They don't MAKE the game. ALL creative choices are left to the developer. If you didn't like this game, it isn't because EA attached their social media site and name to it, its because you DIDN'T LIKE THE GAME. Shocker. The game-play is a good hybrid of DA2 and DAO, leaning more towards DAO (don't let the reviews fool you, it isn't DA2 2.0 as some have put it). My guess is many of these people leaving negative reviews didn't bother to play to end-game. That's like watching a movie halfway and proclaiming its the "worst movie EVER". A little dramatic I think, but to each their own. I didn't find the writing to be that bad, story was lacking but characterization was strong, and that's why you play a Bioware game really, to build a character and see what your choices effect. No DA game ever had complex combat mechanics, so I don't get that argument. Really its a solid RPG at a time when little to no RPG's were being released. Something is much better than nothing. If you want to wait for the next regurgitation of the FF series, have at it, but this title was solid. Don't expect anything ground-breaking, but there are TONS of references to the previous two titles, making it a fun excursion for fans of the series. 8/10, hater's gonna hate, decide for yourselves and stop bashing EA for wanting to make money...all developers/publishers do that, its why they can keep making games. The games has its flaws as you can’t set your attributes, just a few classes, little choices that trully impact story, but I’m gonna say again: it’s still a great game. BioWare did an awesome job by creating an interesting environment that worth to live in.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This game is a step in the right direction for Bioware. They made a massive sprawling world with several unique locations to visit each substantial in size. A lot of new changes this time around in DA:I such as first time tactical camera for consoles, the War Room(Which is awesome by the way) you can go to the war table and complete operations and gain gold, materials, power, influence, etc, fights with high dragons(It's awesome), Skyhold your own base of operations- which you can upgrade and model to your liking, I made a mage so I use the mage throne with Tevinter Imperium decor giving Skyhold a very mage-like look it to it, etc. The combat in DA:I is quite fun as well u can have up to 4 people in your party you included and play as you like. There are 3 different classes and 4 different races in the game and each follower is unique and each has a special personality. The party options are literally endless, If you want to go 4 mage's you can do that or if you want to double up on your warrior's you can do that too. The dialogue and interactions between characters are superb. The writing is awesome in this game and the storyline is pretty good IMO at least even tho critics are saying it falls flat and maybe in some aspects it does at some points it does but overall pretty damn good. I mean *SPOILERS you get fight Corypheus the ancient Magister who started the blight how cool is that.* This game is open and endless I'm in over 100 hrs and there's still plenty to do. Play as you like in this game if you want to go full on strategy then use the tactical camera if you want to go more action oriented then you can do that too. This game is not without it's faults though. Some minor bugs/glitch such as audio bugs, character record screen freezing sometimes, followers go silent, etc but nothing too big. The tactical top-down camera can be iffy and annoying at times, set amount health potions plus no healing spells, lastly the thing that bothers me the most you can only access the spells/abilities mapped to your buttons on your controller no longer can yo access all your abilities in the radial menu. Overall Dragon Age Inquisition is a great rpg experience without outstanding writing and character development and awesome fun addicting game play. P.S. don't listen to the people saying this game is crap because it's not it's mostly people who haven't played it who are Bioware haters and are thinking this since EA is evil that Bioware must be too. It's a great game that will fill that great rpg void in your life and it doesn't deserve a 0 whatsoever. Expand

*8/10 graphics. The world looks great but the textures sometimes randomly decide to pop in and out. During cut scenes it doesn't look like its running at a solid 30fps, some stuttering here and there.
*Story 9/10. The story starts to take off about 5-6 hours in depending on if you are focusing only on the story or if you went off and completed a few side quests. Choices DO matter, and the choices you made in previous games DO make a difference. The changes blend in so well that you would not really notice unless you played the game on default, then again with the choices you made in previous games.
*Audio 8/10. The sound in this game is simply amazing. However, my headset randomly cuts out and it only has that problem while playing this game.
*Combat 9/10. It's really hard to pick a class to play because each has been balanced really well as far as power. Mages seem a little on the underpowered side this go round compared to DA:O. You can now respec.
Content 10/10. There are just too many things to do. Deep crafting system. Solid side quests. Many different side quest systems. A little bit of everything. From gathering, to crafting, to hunting dragons.

Multiplayer 8/10. Very addicting dungeon crawler. Each class is unique and holds its own. The only problem is that you rely 100% on getting items with you are lucky to get 1 item drop per match. This makes you dump gold after gold into buying chests. All items dropped and from chests are random. After 20 chest's I didn't get 1 weapon for the class I was using. Weapons and armor are restricted to class. It takes way too long to acquire enough material to craft. Good weapon drops are too far between. Gear matters more than abilities and getting that gear is completely random.

Notable problems -The tactical camera needs a patch. It doesn't go high enough so i'm constantly having to reposition my group just so i can see better with the camera.

Items for quests are kept in the 'valuables' location in the inventory ( more like the junk area from previous games ). Using the option to 'Sell all Valuables' is very dangerous since you can sell quest items without knowing it.

    No item storage

Class locked items and weapons ( a big step back from origins ).

Dumbed down AI tactics - While your team mates will use abilities more intelligently, you can no longer set rules to adjust them to your playstyle.

Conclusion - If you enjoyed Origins, you will enjoy this. This game is not none stop action, this is a true role playing game. Expect down time and expect to have to read now and then.

I really wish people would actually play a good part of a game before ranting about it on here but I guess the Internet will never change, tons of self righteous, ignorant buffoons.

I've played all the DA games and this is by far the best. Easily as good, if not better than, classics like Skyrim and Mass Effect. An enormous world, diverse combat and engaging stories. I'm 10 hours in and only just scratched the surface (which is probably 9 hours and 30 minutes longer than the reviewer complaining that the story is only "evil shows up, let's kill it" has played).

There are still the well known Bioware glitches present and some of the assets seem dropped in and not organic but the overall presentation is still gorgeous.

It's graphically quite beautiful, and the exploration plus both forms of combat really open the game up. I like using both combat systems, and while the level designs were lacking on DA:2, I was one of the people that loved that game (so you know where I'm coming from), mostly because the combat for playing a rogue was much improved upon Origins' terrible AI movement.

I was actually surprised by how quickly the story and motivations pulled me into this game. I shouldn't have been; BioWare is fantastic when it comes to characterization and story. Regardless, this game achieves one of those very hard things to do that so many other games I play fail at: it makes me forget I'm playing a game. I'm so absorbed in every aspect of it. It's completely engrossing, and transports me into the world of Thedas. This is, quite frankly, an RPG after my own heart. It's easily the best installment in the Dragon Age franchise, and one I'm far more likely to replay for that very same reason.

If you are an RPG fan, you owe it to yourself to give this game a real shot. I honestly can't believe why there are so many negative user reviews. People are too angry and bitter and their venom shows. 0/10? Really? That is not an honest assessment.

Inquisition easily makes it into my top three RPG video games of all time, and for that reason I'm confident to give it 10/10. Not to 'balance the negative reviews', and not to say that any game is ever truly perfect (there's always room for improvement), but because it delivers in spades everything I love about RPG games and rich storytelling.

Negate the hate! Do what you love.

While claims of 20 to 200 hours of gameplay based on previews and developer interviews are still being debated, the fact is that this game contains an impressive wealth of content. I’ve already experienced one moment in the game when I though “a lesser developer would have ended the game here and saved the rest for a sequel or paid DLC.” Inquisition is a great game, a more than worthy addition to the series, and in my opinion, more than redeems Bioware’s reputation after the widely criticized DA2. I’m roughly 30 hours into the game and still feel like I’m much closer to the beginning than to the end.

In terms of gameplay, Inquisition would probably be best categorized as an action RPG. It feels less tactical than previous entries in the series, but this may be due to the fact that I’m playing DAI on a console and played the previous games on PC. My character is an archer, so my experience is largely limited to ranged combat, but the overall gameplay and feel of combat is positive. Most animations are good, and the camera is generally cooperative. Character movement feels fluid and natural, though perhaps a bit sluggish at times during combat. Bioware has also included a tactical mode which can be switched on and off as needed. This allows you to issue orders to your party in a much more tactical manner, though the camera in this mode could use some improvement.

Two of the most obvious issues with gameplay involve jumping. For starters, the jumping animation leaves something to be desired, and your characters seems to jump straight up in a very limited fashion. The tendency to get caught by small objects while moving makes jumping tedious and frustrating. Fortunately, you don’t have to jump too often (though I found myself cursing my bunny-hopping rogue as I tried to dodge the fireballs spewed by a dragon). The second issue is that the jumping button is also used as your primary means of interacting the with world. This means that, more often than not, you will literally find yourself jumping up and down any time you try to pick up loot. More critically, in instances where your interaction is time-sensitive, the fraction of a second it can take for the game to recognize an interaction opportunity can have dire consequences. Perhaps they should have mapped the interact function to the right side of the d-pad. It’s counterintuitive, but I do not believe that button is used for anything else, and it would solve some issues.

Last, and absolutely not least, are the story and characters. This is where DAI really shines, but also where you have to invest some time to get the most bang for your buck. Characters are all well-rounded, with distinct personalities and strong backstories which are revealed throughout the course of the game – if you take the time to talk to them. It’s generally a good idea to check-in with at least one or two characters any time you return to your base of operations, and always after major advancements in the storyline. I’ve frequently noticed myself spending more than an hour in Haven just swapping out some gear and talking to people. It’s not simply a scrollfest, as you have to make decisions about how you talk to people, decisions which have consequences. Your compatriots’ opinions of you can and will open up new missions and War Table operations for you through the course of the game.

I’m certain there’s a lot I’ve overlooked, and I’m not even close to finishing the game yet. While there is still room for improvement, Inquisition is easily one of the best RPGs of the year. In fact, it’s probably one of the best games of the year, period. A great story that’s written and presented well, made even better through the fact that you actually have a say in how it turns out. The Dragon Age games usually lend themselves to multiple playthroughs if you want to experience everything, and DAI is no exception. Most importantly for Bioware, Inquisition goes a long way towards reestablishing the proud tradition of the Dragon Age series.

Better than Dragon Age 2 in many ways, and overall it doesn't really beat Origins. The game is unfocused since the majority of your game time will be spent on quests and side-activities that are frankly too inspired by WoW's design philosophy of purposefully making objectives more dragged-out than they need to be to make the game fun. For an MMO this probably worked because you could chat or do things together. In a single-player RPG though it drags it down with the only redeeming factors really being the party banter and the fact that mostly every side-activity is made relevant to the main objective of the game: build up the forces of your inquisition to be ready for whatever stands in your way, and end the threat that dooms the world once and for all.

Sounds pretty negative so far, but that's because I wanted to get that stuff out of the way as soon as possible. Because the only other real drawback there is left is that while the main missions are great, they are just a tad too few and mostly all of them are too short for how self-contained they are, acting as subplots that are resolved before we really get time to sink in the idea. But trust me when I say, unless you're on PC you're likely to think back at this game when it's over thinking "I want more of that!" than feeing that it was a completely missed opportunity.

The core gameplay is well-made and easily made the 78 hours it took me to beat it the first time worthwhile. There's fun in finding the right party-build that works in combination, trying out different ideas: 2 tanks, an archer and a mage, or a group of Warrior Tank and 3 OP mages throwing fireballs, and freezing the enemies to shatter them, or play as a mage and go Knight Enchanter, soloing 1 of the 10 Dragons to be found.

No matter what Dragon Age you've played before you're gonna be surprised when you realize how massive the world of Inquisition is in sheer size. Arguably this is probably also one of the game's main weaknesses since too few story-missions take place within these environments and are instead placed in self-contained levels but in its own right that probably works better. The problem is just that the game-design is in identity crisis. You have 1 game that plays like a completely open-ended RPG like Skyrim and with WoW quests that's fun in its own right, but then you have the second game, the main campagin and talking to companions at your base that feels completely cinematic, story-driven and revolves around very railroaded level-designs, which is completely fun and satisfying, but one can't help but be disappointed that these two concepts don't gel at all, especially when the best part - the "2nd" game - is a much more interesting game than the first one and the first one takes up the vast majority of your game time.

As for the Bioware-fans I'm pleased to tell you without spoiling stuff that while the main story is hit-or-miss and occasionally so epic that I thought I was gonna faint from all the shivers, the companions, their subtle moments, the party banter, the romances, personal quests, all of these are good enough that you'll walk away wishing there'd been even more of it becuase it IS a great cast, and it has so much potential to be fleshed out even more in DLC. I probably never felt as attached to the cast as I was here, except for maybe Mass Effect 3, but bear in mind that this cast has only been in this one game as opposed to 3 full games like in the ME trilogy.

Chances are that within a year when all DLC is out this game will be one of my favorite PS4 games ever.

    8/10

    Pros:
    + Great cast of companions
+ The parts of the main story that work are bone-chilling
+ Cassandra is an excellent character
+ Sense of discovery is a milestone for Bioware
    + Music is very epic
+ Graphics and especially the new face-models look spectacular

    Cons:
    - Overall game-design is too unfocused
    - too much cheap time-sink
    - The latter half of the main story has many issues
    - Too many bugs (occasionally game-breaking) at launch
    - It borders on superficiality. Companions and main story, while good simply don't have enough screen-time. It feels like stuff is missing.

There just too much too list on why and how great the game is but will say on my first playthrough I put in over 200 hours and still haven't completed or done everything game has to offer, now that's something you always want and should expect from any great RPG and there is also the coop multiplayer mode which to be honest is a lot better then I thought and really does have a lot to it but at end of the day I would have preferred they they took the time they put into a multiplayer mode and have put it into the storyline and storytelling of the game since that's what is more important and why people buy and play these type of games for. Also I would have prefered a true coop mode in the single player campaign mode itself that allowed others to join you on your campaign the way they always made it not these separate coop multiplayer modes that nowadays are made and thrown in as money grabs and not to actually better better the game or experience.

Only reasons I didn't give it a 10 was due to the storyline and storytelling not being on par with DAO but still good enough just not as great and due to some game design decisions like not having healing or blood magic class for what is obviously due to game design choices that they decided to go along with which at least with healing I bet was due to the new coop multiplayer mode and how they designed it to be played.
I won't even go deep into blood magic class but will say after allowing it for two titles and it perfectly working and fitting using lore as an excuse is just stupid and doesn't make sense on so many levels if you actually played both DAO and DA2 and that's all I will say on that.
The last hiccup and reason for me was not having storage chests after also having storage chest in both DAO with the Warden's Keep DLC and DA2 period you would think they would remember to add this one simple and important feature to any RPG nevermind RPGs that have any form of housing.

Aside from those minor dislikes still a masterpiece and great RPG and game at end of the day that can and will only get better and even more so if DLC for DAI is as plentiful and full of quality as DLC from past DA titles were. This game should be candidate for both 2014 game of the year and RPG of the year that's for sure.

The game is astonishing! Game of the year for me, after playing almost all "good" title on PS4 in 2014.

    Pluses:
    - beautiful graphic
Environment is diversed and each map has its own style, beauty. character models are well made, spell/skill effects are so cool that you want to keep using them just for the flashes ;)

    - great character customization
Equipment has options to add many slots, most of them (if not all) change appearance of the item. Character customization gives broad choice of settings. You can choose mounts, class specialization for your Inquisitor. Even bloody throne on which you judge prisoners can be changed!

    - interesting story
It might not be innovative, but there are so many side quests which are well said and keep you going. Usually I do not even read quest descriptions in games, but here I am fully engaged in the game.

    - so many things to do that you feel overwhelmed
Wherever you go, you have so many things to do...War table has many options of sending troops that unlock even more over time. Each area that can be visited with your team has many side quests. Normally side quests are waste of time in majority of rpgs, arent they? here they always give you some boost, sometimes unlocking new content. example was chain of sidequests on one map, which I did on one map (took me like 1-2hours) which resulted in Dragon being available for fight.

    - gameplay is enjoyable
This game has an option to play more hack'n'slash with normal view or tactical view for tough fights (dragons, bosses). I haven't got very used to tactical view and I like a lot hacking and slashing foes. What is great is the fact that you have both fighting systems and both seem engaging.
Fights with normal trash enemies are usually not difficult, however some boss fights or dragon fights can be really challenging and entertaining.

    - music gives me goosebumps!
    - The length of the game is impressive
I so missed times when I was playing RPG games for 50+hours... I am (only) 30hours in this game, but what surprises me is that all the time new stuff comes up that keeps me so entertained in the game!
I read that this title can be played for 100+hours... I really hope it will last so long because so far it is a great ride!

On a side note, there were few glitches, but those were not disturbing and absolutely did not interfere in my immersion with the game. This game is so deep and big that it would be a miracle to avoid any glitch.

To express how much I got into this game, I will tell you an anecdote about my normal behavior versus what happens recently when I play Dragon Age.
Normally, my girlfriend has not a big issue while trying to get me away from console so that I come with her to our bedroom.
A simple "come over baby" is more than enough to motivate me enough for turning off PS4.
With Dragon Age? Hell, she even had to put on the sexiest set of lingerie to get my attention!
So ladies, think twice before you get this game for your beloved one, it might turn out not the way you would like! :)

Seriously speaking, best purchase so far this year for my console, feels so full of content and deserves every cent spent.
    I highly recommend this game!

Another game with reviews paid for by EA? - That's what I'd say if I were a cynic.

However, I think the reason the game got super good 10/10 reviews, and is only now being 'revised' by those same reviewers as an 'average' game, is because DA:I is one of those 'front loaded' games.

That is, all the exciting ambitious and interesting stuff happens right at the start, a torrent of storytelling and action! There's no foreplay here, it's right into the act! And god, it's good, this fine babe (or lad if you're so inclined) is sensational... And then it is over, a premature ejaculation of epic proportions.

DA:I flops because once you get past the initial rush and buzz, it is essentially an MMO game crafted for single-player. Sure, it's "open-world" with selectable areas, and there are HUNDREDS of quests, but none of these are personal or interesting, merely being generic fetch-quests a kin to an MMO.

Worse still, the main quest, while fantastically written, ends almost as soon as you decide to follow it. It peaks early and declines steadily after that and there are no more than 8 main quests to go through. Sure they're reasonably lengthy, and they're fantastically written, but it's not even 1/4 of the game. The other 3/4 is dedicated to fetch-questing and running around like a headless chicken doing MMO stuff for MMO reasons in a single player game.

The 'war table' feature, where you assign your advisors to do important tasks on your behalf is simply a missed opportunity. You send them on missions and you have to wait for a real time timer to end. It's a concept locked behind an 'energy wall', akin to those crappy Candy Crush spin offs on your mobile phone.

We get it EA, you think mobile and online gaming is the future; Newsflash; both trends died or are dieing frigging years ago, get with the times.

What DA:I does have going for it is some fantastic character writing, on par with DA:O and absolutely miles ahead of the childish fantasies of DA2. But it hamstrings itself again with changes in art, changes in lore, retconning crap it doesn't need to be retconned. This time, the Qunari are changed, because their alien (and they are alien really) culture isn't in line with social 'equality', all of a sudden they've gone from mind-washing, "our society is right, a man is a man and a woman is a woman, they do gender assigned jobs" to a "transgender people are a-ok, genderfluid behaviour is completely normal".

Not only that, the world, a fantasy world has been switched to be exclusively LGBT happy and fair and the various soapbox, mouthpiece characters harp on about it a touch too much. This isn't the older Bioware approach that allows you to experience and witness mistreatment first hand and form your own opinion on it, like in DA:O where you can actually accept a bribe to allow your own wife to be gangbang raped -OR- go on a murdering rampage because of it - , no, this is the new Bioware, who will HAMMER HOME THE POINT and tell you that oh my god, rape is wrong, cos you're a child and these inspirational modern society commentary people will educate you on it. Jog on with the patronising behaviour Sir and focus on providing a GOOD RPG.

And that, is where DA:I falls apart, it is a generic, boring, social-commentary RPG tackling 'edgy' topics that most sensible, intelligent people already accept. It dumbed down its content to epic proportions, mindless fetch-quests, energy walls and so on. Not only that, combat has been adjusted to make it even simpler, removing all semblances of tactical flexibility and fun, truly DA:I succeeded where DA2 failed, in making the game a one button game - press button, boring stuff happens.

An epic missed opportunity, and a shame to all the paid critics for yet again **** their pants with 10/10's only to remark how average the game is five months after release (like they did with DA2...ugh)

You'll find yourself playing through more then once just to see how it all can end.
The Multi-player feature to this game is amazing and I find it very fun even more if you have friends to play with. The game-play in Multi-player reminds me of the Baldur's Gate series which I also enjoy a fair amount.
Any fan of RPG's or the Dragon Age Series should take the time to play this installment of the franchise and experience it's story telling and vast world for yourself. Don't forget about "DragonAgeKeep.com" witch allows you to build a background story to Inquisition and shape the world you play in.

But then there is the gameplay. What began in such a promising fashion gradually became more and more of a neverending list of a chores. How many times can you close a rift populated by the same five or six types of demons before it loses any feeling of excitement? How many times can you return to an area to fight the same dangerous creatures/mercenaries you wiped out five minutes ago (especially when they are so obviously re-spawns on a short time interval?) How many times can one be sent to fetch some ridiculous number of raw materials across the countryside? How often do I have to enter an new area opened up to me by the game, only to discover that the encounters here are about five levels too much for me, and I must retreat and whittle away at random creatures for god knows how long.

Others have spoken in detail about the combat, so I won't spend too much time on that here, except to say, I agree that it is largely a hollow experience.

The further the protagonist gets, the more this endless grind overwhelms the other aspects of the game. I actually had to put it down the first time around, as I burned out on it around level 15, and didn't pick it up again until months later.

It seems fairly obvious that the MMO influence has crept into DA:I, with all that genre's cheap Skinner Box tricks and shallow gameplay. Sadly, it seems these tactics work well enough for the majority of the gaming public, so I'm guessing we will see more games following its example in the future. Me, I guess I will be playing the first Mass Effect again, and hoping BioWare realizes they can do better than DA:I.

The BS is fun, you can make your own story within the choices you make and empathize with one or other NPC by the way they think and act. Storyline is nice, a bit predictable, but I enjoyed it.

The problem with this game is that sooner or later you get bored of exploring maps and not having a real opened world, I've tried to finish the main story on three different occasions and I haven't been able yet because I like to explore and achieve 100% before I leave the zone.

I feel that I enjoy it when I'm playing, the personal problem I have with it is that I get bored and pass to an other thing.

Someday I will finish it for sure, but no clue when will that be!

I also tried out the PvP... didn't like it at all, I'd rather play TESO for that, it was much more fun. The PvE combat feels a little bit repetitive and you stay there waiting your skills to cooldown, auto-attack sucks.

The crafting system is soooooo confusing, I don't know who did it, but Good Lord! It's awful! And the skill trees are a no brainer, it makes nonsense that you can upgrade everything...

Regardless of all the problems and bad things it has, you'll enjoy playing it, PvE! Seriously, don't play PvP in this game.

    Good hunt Inquisitors :)

For example if you're playing a warrior you can counter, you can roll, and you can do you're best impression of scorpion and yell "Get over here!" while throwing you're grappling hook/spear at far-reaching enemies to bring them closer to you and proceed to wail on them. This along with the strategy element blend to make combat something really unique. Also, I know that getting rid of healing spells was a point of contention before release but what they did to replace this system is very interesting. Before you set out from a certain camp you equip potions and have access to only those potions until you find another camp or walk back to your camp to refill them with your tail between your legs only to go back out into the world and try again or avoid whatever gave you trouble. This is dark-souls esque and i love that. That's not the interesting part though. While you're fighting you can perform certain moves that give you a barrier or armor that protects your health, mitigating the need for potions. It's a very fun and involved process. For the rest I'll make this review shorter: the story is engaging and interesting, the characters are great, your character is great, the soundtrack is great, the game-map is **** gigantic, and there's a **** of quest content. DA2 with all of it's flaw (of which there are plenty) created a compelling hero and sped up the action. Inquisition is tremendous in scope. The world, unlike traditional sandbox games, is broken into several smaller, yet still impressively massive and dense landscapes. What's better is that each location feels different, rewards and encourages exploration, and takes hours to bring to completion. These locales are as much the story of DA:I as the central plot, changing as you make allies or conquer objectives. The narrative itself is fairly well written, but does hinge greatly on a piece of DA2 dlc that all but the truly enamored with Hawke as a character bothered attempting. Still, the story is supported with a compelling cast save for a Qunari who sounds oddly familiar. The narrative's pacing is good and progress as a hero and an institution feels earned. Some cameos are well placed and don't feel forced. There are many opportunities for customization; skill set, armor and weapons, mounts to ride, and even your fortress. Though, to be fair, the Skyhold choices are fairly limited and the larger irreversible ones are rare and have very limited effect. After 121 hours, the campaign completed, every dragon slain, and every task mastered; I'm not only satisfied, but impressed. There was much to enjoy in this outing and very little to complain about. Other that Freddy Prince Jr (he's the same character only with a slight refrain), the voice acting was excellent. The customization options for characters was ample. As always, the soundtrack was superb. Multiplayer is engaging for a time but becomes repetitive quickly and lacks the same level of enjoyment of ME3. Expand

Dragon Age is the one that I can't put down. From the start the game does move quite slow: close this rift, report to this person, etc. Somewhere after the first few hours the game started to captivate me. The story is so intriguing and the characters are beautiful. The world is obviously huge and has endless possibilities when exploring and completing missions. I was very confused at first as to how to go about the story, but I soon learned how to access the war table and send out my recruits on side missions. Dragon Age does a great job making you really feel like the ruler. I only have 6 party members unlocked so I am sure I have a ways to go. I am very excited to see where this game takes me.

The multiplayer is phenomenal. I am not going to lie, I have already spent $40 (and feel incredibly dumb about it) on chests so that I could unlock the Arcane Warrior. The first four checkpoints are usually fairly easy and the fifth one is much more difficult. I do wish they had balanced this out better. All in all, it is a very solid multiplayer experience with numerous characters and talents to choose from.

I actually asked my girlfriend to call me "The Herald of Andraste" when we have sex next. She quickly said no...

One more thing, Bioware nowadays is so liberal and open-minded, that, I believe, honestly thinks that they can add another layer to the otherwise practically non-existing story of DA: Inquisition by adding gay relationships. And of course they told us about that like a 1000 times. Like it was a heroic deed. And not something you do to make a story better if you think it can actually make it better. And if it doesn’t you don’t do it. And they did it not for the sake of more publicity. Of course not… Well… They clearly want appreciation from everyone. Ok, let’s all pat them on the back. And I have a great suggestion, guys, next time make protagonist a transgender and main quest should be to prevent global warming. It’ll be great improvement from the shallow lifeless story you gave us in DA: Inquisition. Then we all’ll be happy.

I will start off by saying that I hated Skyrim, and didn't even really like DA II. Stopped playing both of those games within a couple of hours. I know they are well-liked by many, but the game play was difficult for me. I'm not a hardcore gamer. I did, however, love the Mass Effect games, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning- and DA:I is kind of reminds me of both.

I did, however, love the Mass Effect games, and Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning- and DA:I is kind of reminds me of both.
    What I love:
    Graphics...pretty graphics, backgrounds, totally gorgeous.
Quests are engaging for the most part. I am staying up way too late because of this game.

    What I don't love:

No. Freaking. Stash. Wtf. Its not so much that I'm trying to be a hoarder like I am on Diablo 3, but inventory management needs to be done pretty much after every quest, and its not very simple. You have to switch in and out of all your companions to check for upgrades on the stuff they can use or else you end up selling things that were useful. It takes me about 10 minutes to do, and totally takes me out of the game. You don't just look through weapons and gear. You also have schematics, upgrades, runes, recipes. Its not very difficult to figure out, but if I'm tired, that's the point that I turn off the game until the next day.
Glitches are here and there, which isn't a huge deal to me. What annoys me though is that whenever your Inquisitor is speaking to either an npc, or advsior, or companion, you barely hear their side of the convesation. Every single person I speak to is almost whispering, and I if I forget to bring down the volume, I blast out sound if I get into a fight right after. I don't have any sound issues with my PS4 or television with any other game.
Other than those two main things on the negative side, I can't tear myself away from this game. I'm romancing Solas, which is playing hard to get, but I'm working on my elf milkshake to bring him to the yard. Maybe Iron Bull would have been easier, but I'll try that next play-through. Right now I've done about 20 hours.
I'm currently playing an Elf Rogue Archer. As long as I have two mages and a warrior in my team at all times, I'm good.
Tip: most crafted weapons are going to beat out what you usually find in the game, at least until you get to Skyhold. I'll have to see how the rest goes.

I did love the environments and the random loot generation(to a point)and the dragon fights are great. Still one of the best games I've played this year. Definitely worth a purchase in my opinion

So, after the disappointment of DA 2 and ME3's ending, i lost in faith Bioware. But after i played through Inquisition, my faith in them was restored. This time around, the world is under attack by demons, not darkspawn, but demons, and before say it, no this game's story is not ripped straight from oblivion, in Oblivion the story focuses on finding the emperor so he can help you stop the invasion of the deadra, In DA:I you are the leader of a faction called the Inquisition (hence the name Inquisition in the title) preparing to defend the world against demons. You also can use a feature called Dragon Age: keep, It lets you customise things such as decisions in previous title so they can effect the state of the world in Inquisition, Hawke's look, gender and class, if the warden survived or not, his/her race, look and class, if you choose to let him/her survive etc... And you me heard right, many characters of previous DAs make at least a cameo, including: Alistair, Leliana, Varric and even Morrigan. Speaking of characters, i liked the companions who made a first appearance in this game, expect for Blackwall, Bioware was clearly going for variety in their personalities. Now let's talk about gameplay, the combat borrows the fast pace of DA2 and adds a super move-type ability, and combines it with the overhead camera of DA: Origins. Unfortunately the overhead cam is clunky and is overall useless. And according to what one of my friends who bought this game on PC said, the PC version has clunky controls with limited remapping options, no mod support and is very poorly optimized, so I'd say that the PC version gets a 6/10, and iv'e also heard that the game looks awful on on last-gen consoles, so I recommend getting for the PS4 or Xbox 1. Let's see, we have 12 very open areas to explore, and unlike DA 2, they have excellent variety, you have deserts, snowy wastelands, Orlais's capital Val royal, the lush forests of Ferleden, you name it, not only that but there are mini-locations that open up temporarily open up (the areas are not interconnected though),overall the game is huge. And since your the leader of the Inquisition, you get an awesome castle called Skyhold that you can upgrade and customise, not only that but there are some game of thrones-type politics (you can even sit on your throne and judge criminals, deserters, traitors among others at certain points of the game), There's a ton of side quests, and for the most part, i enjoyed them. There's the war table, from there you can send agents to deal with issues so they can bring things such as unique weapons and armour, you also can receive side quests from factions to earn their support and some valuable resources, and you can get perks that allow to access locked off sections of some areas. Dragons are back and hunting them is pretty epic (not as epic Dragon's Dogma, but it's still epic). The game also has high production qualities such amazing animations, very good lip syncing, good graphics, and excellent voice acting. I'd that the biggest negative of this game is that building up the Inquisition barely really affects the ending and that the final Boss battle is slightly disappointing. And the multiplayer is a f****** mobile game, it forces to either grind endlessly or spend money on new characters and potions, f*** you EA. And i should mention that it took about 80 hours to finish the game, including quite a few side quests. Overall though i really enjoyed this game, sure it has faults, it's not a flawless gem but i really enjoyed it.

And remember, you have the right to disagree with me.

The fact that I do not have to do a single thing, and that the companions will fight for me, is just an LOL moment. This game needs a way to turn off most of the icons on the map. I'm about 24 hours in now and bugs have been absolutely minimal. Loading times are next to nothing. This game is polished. The lore is rich and the artwork is beautiful. There are SO MANY different ways to play this game- it's entirely up to the player: your abilities, the characters, the stories you take: there is so much playability within one game path and there are so many paths a player could choose to take. My favorite feature is the war room and the meta-strategy involved with leading advisers. Each sandbox is just phenomenal- from forests to desert- they're all good. Of course there are things I wish were different or better: I would like to have more villages to explore, a full first person mode (which would be too good to be true), even deeper character relationships, "evil" choices, and mounts for everyone in your party. But, I am obviously satisfied. This is gaming as an art form -it's what the new gen desperately needed- in its scope, detail, humor, immersion, challenge, and imagination. Expand

Though they still sometimes occur, there is still the occasional issue with dialogue (solved by simply saving and reloading). You may want to wait for another patch--some abilities, actually a fair amount, simply do NOTHING and this is obviously a major flaw that should have been fixed far before release. It would be like playing a FPS where half of your guns are firing blanks and you don't know it. Great game, great story, great graphics. The characters are excellent and constantly shine in this game, and the replayability is through the roof--using Dragon Age Keep online, you can create different histories of the Warden that ended the Fifth Blight (DA: Origins) and Hawke (DA2). I definitely recommend this game, once that major flaw is fixed.

Game from Bioware. You can smell it from far away. Black and white with no gray in between story about another epic hero.
After disappointment with ME 3 and DA 2 I decide NOT to buy this game until I see some reviews, gameplay and opinions. And after that I bought it. And I spend more than 40 hours in it. And I can say - Bioware learned from their past mistakes... most of the time.

Graphic. Nothing fancy but very, very nice. With style. I especially like maps with rain at night. Nothing to complain but not breathtaking. And it's not strange since modern consoles (including PS4) are weak compared to PC.

Gameplay - combination of DAO and DA II. Action oriented but stupid silly final fantasy animations are GONE. Tactical camera is back and if used properly, Your fight will be much easier than playing action oriented style. Crafting is just plain brilliant. Many items to craft that will change color and overall look based on materials You use. I love it. I'm not even at half of the game and I have over 80 materials I can use for crafting.
They add stuff from Ubisoft games but with style. Find telescopes and solve nice riddles (Traveling merchant problem) to open treasure caves. Close rifts to gain influence. Find shards on map to open magic doors in one location. There are few things to do and there is reward for each and one of them.
Plenty of things to do on many large maps.

Game have few bugs and glitches but nothing major. Didn't prevent me from playing or anything.

Also there is less quests that mark exact things on the map. You need to find stuff Yourself using Witcher medalion. Yeah, thing from Witcher 2 is here under L3 but with lesser graphic effect :-) Funny but welcomed.

Story is nice but straightforward. Still have many great moments.

Also - best dragon fights EVER.

    Overall, strong 8.

The combat is generally intuitive. The dialogue is RPG cheese but if you are into a game for just beyond killing, this is it. The choices are largely noticeable, the little people will talk about what happened and only so far once has a convo been behind the times.

I think how you play your character with the other groups makes a difference. I think the AI is good enough people complaining about combat being easy is the root of that complaint. I for one like my AI not being totally stupid but you should keep an eye on them, as because like PCs, NPCs will do something dumb.

The RPG genre is the hardest to get right and aside from a few graphical glitches, I've had very few moments that ruined the experience.

Its the few minor issues that stop the game from being more than a 9/10 but the game met expectations, it has been interactive and as a massive hater of EA, I really really hate giving them money, this game is worth while.

Their is allot of action and some people may not like all of the dialog at times it can get cumbersome. None the less it is a good rpg game.

    I give it about a 7.0

I am a little concerned about the value. I pre-ordered my copy for the ps4 downloading the the weapon dlc etc. On 2 occasions The DLC disapeared at start up and I could not load my save games. I had to contact E.A each time to get a code to use to re-download the dlc because it is not in the playstation store yet etc. in order to continue playing my save.. I ended up deleted the dlc weapon out of my inventory and I am praying that fixes it. This game has some glaring technical issues some which force you to reload the game and some that can be game breaking if you cannot contact EA and get new codes for your dlc weapons. My suggestion to people that get this for christmas or later NOT TO USE THE ANY dlc codes until this has been fixed or you can invest many hours into your game and not be able to load your save because your dlc just vanishes...

Bioware will get it patched and E.A customer service did not hesitate to help me and give me new codes..

My only other problem is that the music while travelling is not always playing and while that's ok I think the gaps are too long creating a silence where I would prefer music to be playing.

Character customization is awful. Ugly beyond belief. Playing on PS4 and I still get choppy load in for textures. Just awful--make that boring. It's great crime is that it's boring. The vaunted Bioware storytelling has finally gone down the drain. If you were turned off by DA2 and ME3, this is more of the same. Don't buy it unless you find it cheap or if you're a masochist who loves grinding like you're in a Korean MMO.

This game is awesome. The storyline is great with amazing graphic. Although the fps is quite low but still looking smooth. A must have if you are a DA fans, this version is really a nice breakthrough.
