    5/10 Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten is tower defense with an uninspiring story characters, interesting tactical mechanics but lacks a customization of a real RPG. Graphics are relatively bearable with some nice touches to it but overall simplicity. Music gets overplayed in short loops, it would be ok if maybe more interesting. Game gets grindy early on which holds story back and does not justify the backwards running all the time.    … Expand

    Defender’s Quest represents something new and unique. By dipping the tower defense chocolate into some RPG peanut butter, Level Up Labs has created a Reese’s Cup-level classic. Defender’s Quest: Valley of the Forgotten DX’ gameplay is rock solid, reflecting the six years of refinements that the small development team has made to the core title. If you have any interest at all in the tower defense genre, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

    Defender's Quest: Valley of the Forgotten DX is a peculiar mix of tower-defense and RPG. Thanks to an intriguing story and a complex and satisfying gameplay, the game will appeal to all those who love strategy games, even with its lack of diversity in enemies.

    Ultimately, for all its storylines and RPG elements, Defender’s Quest is very much about the tower defence at its core, with all the other systems in the game either informing the core experience or accommodating it. That tower defence gameplay is exceptionally strong, full of options and customisation, and the other missed opportunities do little to take away from that.
