Finally a creative game with that seems to ooze style and substance. I spent hours just exploring the starting areas playing with the game mechanics. The music and graphics and animations are superb! And I didn't get bored with this game unlike Red Dead Redemption 2.

It takes at least a dozen hours for the story to show some skin, for the characters and the world to get into motion and it demands hours of close attention to be paid from the gamer itself, because the complexity of this Hollywood influenced undeniably japanese vision. And it will not get that amount of attention from most of said gamers. We live in those days, days like we set off in our cars to drive the kids to school, rush to the office, or take on the mall for some groceries, we consume news and human relations in quick instant portions ... where in the world of Death Stranding we won't even have our rig to ride on for starters, we have to lay down the foundations of roads from hard gathered materials for ourselves and for others, for the community, for people. Yes, it can be daunting sometimes, called like 'courier simulator', 'sherpa' or 'delivery game', 9gagged with DHL boxes and FedEx logos, but under the surface the hard strolling mean some deeper things the developer aimed at: you connect the few people who live scattered in their shelters, you discover through mud and snow and make relations, you make yourself famous and liked (here you go facebook addicts!), you solve problems, you learn, you build bridges both metaphorically and literally. And in the meantime you put together the puzzle pieces of a 30 hour long bitter-sweet sci-fi story about a cataclysm and afterlife, flesh and soul, about love and human relations, about the universe and thoughts about religion or our mere existence. And if you can't wait for it, you wil miss it. This is why Death Stranding is not for everyone and why I said many gamers won't even recognize it's values. But people should really stop burning down bridges these days and stop trolling with others who would be up for this package.

Hear me out porters, trust me when I tell you: this game Delivers!

Kojima and his team created something fresh and exciting and I truly hope DS will be a precursor for future games that focus on this kind of storytelling by combining current social trends with riveting character presentation. The loneliness one feels throughout the game is so fitting into today's social media world, where the hunt for likes and views quiets the humble thrive and longing for real connections. I swear Kojima and I share the same brain... or subconscious.. or SOMETHING! Only his is on a whole other lvl than mine.. for sure. I absolutely love this game and consider it not only a masterpiece but a generational milestone for gaming in general. Not even kidding. And it's not the crazy narrative. I absolutely love this game and consider it not only a masterpiece but a generational milestone for gaming in general. Not even kidding. And it's not the crazy narrative. (though that is certainly a piece of it) It's the whole package. I feel like none of it would work without the other and it all just falls together seemlessly to create this amazing immersive world that you, and other real life people like you, are pushing through in order to see it to the end. I am legit having a blast playing this game. Be a lot cooler if other people could "get it" but that's the thing about people... We're all different.

For anyone serious, and I mean "serious," into gaming. This thing is a fn milestone. For most... It's probably really cool to look at and boring as hell.

    I love it.

...and before it's "damn man, you must REALLY but up on Kojimas nuts."

I don't love the game because its Kojima.
I love Kojima because he made the game. (and many others)

Being someone who's been gaming since i was 1-2 y/o (still have my 2600 in the closet) 37 now...
Its a milestone, thats the most appropriate word i can think of atm. And yes, im having a blast.. so i guess that means its "fun."

I think there's a lot who consider Kojima = Metal Gear and expected Metal Gear not really understanding Kojima at all. And while I can dig some MG, and would love something in the vein of it.. I'm more than glad he finally created something he wanted to create vs something a studio made him create. There's a reason Konami wanted Hideo to create more MG games... the general populous loved them. This is not a "general populous" game. I feel like Sony could be taking a hit off this. I just saw all the review bombs on this site before "spell checking" and I just want to thank them (SONY) for letting a true mind show what he's capable of with the digital medium. This is something that RARELY is allowed to happen and if this doesn't prove that Sony, at least at some point in their chain, cares about the gaming medium and pushing it forward, then I don't know what else they could possibly do. Make more shooty shooty/hacky slashy games i guess... the same things we've been playing for the past 20 some odd years. People buy those.

It’s sad for me to see the negativity over this game because for purely selfish reasons I hope to have more experiences like Death Stranding in the future. I’m generally not someone who thinks that there are such things as review bombs, nor do I think people’s thoughts should be moderated, metacritic included. I believe everyone has the right to express themselves regardless of their opinions effect on others and if a game is bombed with negativity then there is probably a reason for that. It is in that freedom of expression that we find truth.

I have to wonder though, are these 0 reviewers playing the same game as I?

Am I really that different than so many other people where I find Death Stranding (at times) to be pure unmitigated genius, and other people are bored to tears?

And yet, I understand their point of view because if Death Stranding is anything it is very, very different than anything else out there today. It is less a game and more of an experience.
    Death Stranding is beautiful.
Death Stranding is lonely, so lonely
Death Stranding is hopeful and yet full of despair, setsunai.
And yes, Death Stranding is full of moments of tension and gripping fear, it is not a game devoid of action as others would have you believe. There is great tension in the game with MULE’s and BT and I find the balance of everything quite enjoyable.

It is not entirely inaccurate to state that this game is essentially “Being Norman Reedus”, and I am enjoying it!

The amount of work, effort, care and love put into every minute detail of the character and his animations is astounding to me and I find that alone very entertaining. The line between where Sam begins and Norman ends is quite blurry, and the experience is all the better for it. I personally feel a real connection to this game. I feel a connection to Norman Reedus, and to this world. That I can feel emotion strongly, to feel like I know someone from a digital representation of their character is completely amazing to me. Hideo Kojima must be acknowledged for his lovingly detailed recreation of Mr. Reedus’ actual person.

As you can tell, so much of the Death Stranding experience hinges on the personality of Norman Reedus. We as the player spend a great deal of time with just him and the environment. You’ll know best whether or not that interests you, but I will also say that the story in this game is absolutely top notch. It is a truly wonderful (again that word) experience that I feel moves me in as similar manner as something along the lines of Howl’s Moving Castle.

In short, if you’ve the funds I think you owe it to yourself to see whether Death Stranding is for you, because if it is... it is an experience like none other in gaming today that I am so glad I didn’t pass on because of other’s criticisms.

And if you try it and find that Death Stranding is not for you, then I am truly sorry for whatever it is that I have which you do not posses that allows me to feel such a strong connection to this game, it’s characters, it’s world, it’s music and sounds, pain and joy... the whole amazing experience.

If you decide for whatever reason that you don’t enjoy Death Stranding, then I’ll thank you for supporting me and others ability to wholeheartedly love this strange and unique game, experience. Dear Mr. Kojima, please keep on keeping on. It was brave of you to release this game and we are all, those of us who have hearts opened to it, all the better for it.

I am fully entertained and while I have much more to go in this game, I’m already looking forward to the next experience.

I came into this having only watched the original trailer when it came out. All I heard when the game was released were the complains about it being "boring" and "divisive" but when I eventually started it, I simply was sucked into a beautifully terrifying world.

I resist giving anything full marks. But it's been two days since I was dumbfounded and in awe as I finished it at 5.30 in the morning and I still cannot stop thinking about it. The first thingAfter completing Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, Kojima started to work together with Guillermo Del Toro on various projects. After the famous split between Kojima and Konami, one of these projects Death Stranding had been teased for quite a long while. Now it's finally out, the reviews have been streaming in and so far it's got mixed opinions for a variety of reasons. The first thing that might put people off is that at it's heart, it isn't an action game (or at least, it isn't at first). It does appear to share and engine and some control mechanics from the MGSV games but other than that, this is entirely it's own property and focuses more in terms of Sci-Fi and Horror than other genres.

You play as Sam Porter Bridges, motion captured and voiced by Norman Reedus (an actor most famous for The Walking Dead and Blade 2)
Sam is essentially a courier tasked with travelling the strange and inhospitable landscape caused by a post-apocalyptic event where society is reduced to living mostly in bunkers with very little resources. Key aspects of the game include balancing your cargo load, carrying collapsible ladders and climbing anchors to make yours (and other players') journeys easier. You have to maintain your walking boots, keep your chest-mounted BB unit happy and look after your health and stamina. Crouching makes you slower and makes carrying heavy loads easier. Walking and running will shift the cargo weight onto one side, forcing you to move more slowly or stabilise yourself to avoid falling and damaging the cargo.

Throughout the world your presense to other players (if online mode is enabled) will allow for player-made structures and signs to appear in your game. You can award these likes so that other players may reward those who are generous with their time and resources.

You'll encounter some rogue forces too. There are the MULEs which are a hostile entity that will steal your supplies and will enter combat with you if you stray into their territory. There are the BTs that appear during periods of heavy rain. These semi-invisible forces are hostile and will attempt to pull you into the underworld which will force you to respawn and make you lose your progress.

There are a large number of cutscenes in the game, some are from colleagues giving you information but others are fully rendered video sequences which set the story and fill in the world. There is an extensive backstory and text notes which fill in the game's lore and give you a better idea of the world.

Later on you are able to fabricate objects based on blueprints and can upgrade your equipment. The map will open up to you allowing you to travel further and take on riskier jobs.

The visuals in the game are stunning and definitely push the Playstation 4 to new heights in terms of technical achievements. The music and sound in the game is exceptionally well done, some of the named bands contributing songs have done a great job and these always play at the right time. The voice acting is excellent and definitely some of the best VA work I've heard in recent years. Gameplay is understandably a bit of a mixed bag for some, your character is meant to be quite normal so you do have to keep your footing and watch your stamina gauge to avoid tiring yourself.

Take a look at some videos and other reviews and see if this is the right game for you. In my opinion it's great and one of my favourite videogames.

This game does manage to be fun, even if it is one of the heaviest experiences of 2019. Everything from story to gameplay is begging to be dissected, filled with imagery and symbolism -- just like so many Kojima games before this one. Entering Death Stranding, it’s likely that we all thought Kojima’s calling card was lengthy cutscenes and stealth and action gameplay.

Unlike many AAA games, it shines on a truly spiritual level. Well written, engaging and visually magnificent, it offers, despite some pacing flaws, an astonishing solo game with elegant multiplayer elements. A unique representation of Hideo Kojima’s talent.
