Sadly Dark Souls 3 didn't live up the hype. The PvE experience is overall shallow (the story is the weakest of all 3 games, there is also a TON of fan service) and has close to no replay value. The PvP is vastly inferior to Dark Souls 2 PvP. It passes a strong feeling of a fast cash in for the producer.

I recomend dark souls 2 instead (or dark souls 1 even).

I am a big fan of the series, starting with Demon Souls. Unfortunately, unless you choose the right character build at the beginning, and get very lucky, the first boss, who comes in the first 5 minutes, will wipe the floor with you, with cheats. Unfortunately, unless you choose the right character build at the beginning, and get very lucky, the first boss, who comes in the first 5 minutes, will wipe the floor with you, with cheats. If you played Bloodborne, this first boss IS Father Gascione, except this time there is nothing to get him stuck on so that you can cheat-kill him (which was necessary to play the rest of the game). There is no learning curve like before- it is just straight up impossibly frustrating.

The most disappointing part though is the world design, which was so excellent in previous games, and the real reason that I enjoyed them. The world here is very bland in comparison to the surprises of the series before. The terrain is mostly corridors made up of two similar colors, and it really gets tedious walking around in game environments that look the same, and fail to give you a sense of reward for daring to venture further and creaking, bloody and battered, to the next bonfire. If that wasn't bad enough, the game is MUCH more linear than the ones before it. At maximum, any given time, there are two paths to travel, and one of them is a very short branch. It is clear that From Software just wanted to have done with the series, as this was the least imaginative entry.

The PVP combat and AI is however the best in any of the games by far. Some of the game's enemies- you would swear that they are a player because of the things they will try to pull on you.

It is painful for me to give this game a bad score because I was awaiting it eagerly. Wait until the game price drops, then play this if you are a fan... it is not as polished and well designed as the others before it.

This game feels like it was made by a little kid with a vendetta against video game players. IT really is the worst game i have ever played. Keep in mind i am 80 hours in a refuse to let this game get the best of me.

You will spend more time watching load screens than playing this game. I think that needs to be a point of reference when video gamers make a review, how much time did you spend on load screens? This game would be the worst game of all time of that was a metric.

The bosses will one hit kill you. I have a life bar that goes 2/3 across my screen and in a boss fight, i will literally die within 40 seconds of walking into the castle, dungeon etc. Then you'll be expected to travel 2-3 minutes to get back to the boss and by then you'll have forgotten your strategy and be left dying on the floor immediately.

Really, if you want a true review, read these negatives. I've seen a few people talk about the gameplay dynamics... they're terrible.

You'll get killed by enemies that didn't hit you, you won't kill enemies you hit and everything on the map will kill you in 1-2 hits. Every time you step into a new environment, expect to get killed over and over again. Then you go back to the last land and kill until you farm enough souls to level up to the point of being OP I but keep in mind the game will literally just choose to kill you at its own leisure.

I'm actually 80 hours in because my pride says I need to overcome this game but I would honestly spit in the face of the creator. Although I believe he is already a filthy piece of garbage so that wouldn't help anything. Most of the difficult enemies I had to trap into some environmental glitch and then shoot them with arrows from a distance. Keep in mind this could take up to 45-60 arrows and shoot arrows takes 3-5 seconds. You will push buttons a few times and your character won't react. You'll go to attack an enemy and your character will literally stop moving and the enemy will get a hit on you that was just simply decided by the game. Everyone tells me "just dodge roll" so i try it... doesn't matter. Enemy still gets the hit.

This game took all my joy from video games. I wanted a challenge but this is like being put into a maze that changes when you find a rout. Then changes again. then changes again. then changes again... you get it.

I could go on and on about the good things in this game, but I'll just mention a few gear grinding faults, which do take some of the fun out of the whole experience.

    - Netcode is poor. It is quite a struggle to play co-op, when being able to connect is more dependent on stars aligning than clicking on all the right settings. Invading is also a such a pain in the arse, it's not even fun. If there is a fight club going, that's great, but try invading and you'll get lag stabbed to oblivion nine out of ten times.

    - Save the Earth-level of recycling: I do enjoy the continuity in the series, but items, enemies and boss fights feel quite recycled. It just takes that something away from feeling accomplished, when you've done the same thing with different skins many times before.

    - Balance issues: I'm quite disheartened about the weapon balancing in the current version. Sure, like in all souls games, everyone will have their favorite club to swing, but there two to three weapons that are too OP to be replaced. As a long-time halberd user, I was a bit irked I was forced to go the sword and shield route simply because there are easy to acquire options that are just too much better.

Overall, this game is one of those that you can't miss. If From fixes some of the issues in the next game series, beyond Bloodborne, Metacritic will need to turn the score bar to 11.

It took me two days of anger and annoyment to pass the first level of the game. I was hoping that the game will get more pleasant after that, but in less then 5 minutes I again got killed by some average character as if I wasn't even holding a joystick in my hand. And again. And again. Plus once you used up your inventory it's gone forever! Even after you got resurrected. Meaning if your character's strong suit is shooting arrows, he's screwed after they are gone. And the worst thing is that you get revived fare fare away from the point of death, so you have to run and fight your way through same monsters just to get killed same place again. What's the point of buying the game if you can't really enjoy it and have to keep replaying same annoying place over and over again?
I love RPG and I played countless amount of hours in my life, therefore it was very disappointing to find out that this game is nothing but bad experience. I would definitely not recommend anyone waste their money on it.

    - armor does stuff all to defend you even late game and weapons, you will never feel like a badass in this game and enemies will always have unfair advantages.
    - Stamina? you're undead right so why stamina? Other undead enemies can chain attacks on you but you need a rest?
    - Enemies ignoring hits, now i'm like most people when you get hit you feel it but you'll spend most your time getting cheap hits from enemies because they can ignore hits you can't even chain to knock them off balance, this is a lazy developer move right here.
    - forces you to be a knight anything else and it isn't worth it the game just becomes unfair and not even fun, I love challenge but this isn't it.
    - Online pvp now my issue isn't on other players but this games idea that you can invade worlds, when i spend ONE HOUR waiting where I see blood stains everywhere to invade and then it says failed I mean is this P2P because it certainly isn't dedicated servers, and the other players and even me slashing the air and getting a hit in LAG much?
    - enemies have unfair combos and move way too fast for undead and you cannot do the same, do you feel like the champion of ash? I feel like ash.
    - Curved blades and katanas can be parried? Um no the reason for it being curved is so it slides off if you parried as they do the persons blade would slide off and cut you open, and the katanas are not even used correctly! I thought the more you invest in a skill dex and such you person would become more control over it and use faster more masterful stances but nope it's the same boring combo that enemies may parry or ignore because of this poise stuff which should not even be in the game.

    - Enemy tracking through attacks if ridiculous and I think you can do the same that needs to be gone or why bother dodging an attack if the knight is just going to lock onto like a homing missile.
With such blaring problems with the games mechanics I'm surprised people are giving high scores, NO! Stop it the game doesn't deserve it, sure it might be pretty and gritty and cool but its mechanics don't work correctly and wreak of developer laziness because they didn't know any alternate way to make it challenging, I got this on sale for $36 and I honestly believe this should be it's actual retail price.

I don't mind dying in games it's often you die when you slip up but not to the point where dying is something that must happen until you find how to deal with your enemy, no what is wrong with you?
And additionally where's the story did we forget it? the npc's will often die or hate you for something you did that you had no idea because nothing tells you. Progression isn't an issue but questing is, this feels like a lazy skyrim.
And the same execution 'stab and kick' you guy's couldn't think of anymore than that? Oh because you didn't have to because blind fans of the series will jump all over it and shoot down anyone that has an intelligent counterpoint to put forth surfacing one of the games faults or as I have MANY of it's faults. I played the gods of war and ninja gaidens max difficulty and they could run circles around this game and they were fun but this is ridiculous.

If you want something go knight and find the biggest sword and heaviest armor and drop all on vigor, strength, endurance, vitality. the end you're a tank, you may need to level up some others to use some weapons but thats it, Hell even dragons in DAI (dragon age inquisition) jumped and roared at you for stabbing at a body part why do these enemies not even acknowledge most hits?

It's not about hating a game and calling it crap it's about and fans need to do this, you need to dig up all faults no matter how small and not take them out but find a way to help developers see 'oh rather than ignore hits if you hit them for long enough or the side you'll knock them off balance' You criticise a game because you love it and fans should be the most harshest critics out there, but don't disregard the positives in the game.

On all things it does right this game is outweighed by it's faults so I believe without any change you're better off with bloodborne or waiting for Nioh because this game is terrible and I only wish I didn't have to play it to review it. The developers clearly think they can release anything and no one will take it to pieces so they release it in a sorry state.

I hope with future patches and dlc's or even games it changes but I doubt this very much and until I see a change my review won't change on this, don't pay for this move on wait for games that companies put effort into not just in Visuals but Mechanics as well.

Keep an eye out for my fallout 4 review as well I'm sure it will be filled with things other people have found as well.

The one screaming, "There is no poise!" and "They rehashed all the assets from the prior games!" and other slurs I dare not mention.

    Tread lightly.

You are one. We are hundreds, thousands. Millions. You aren't just IN the minority; you ARE the minority.

I don't feel awkward or anxious playing Dark Souls 3 around others, and your words don't affect me. Many others, however, are coming out of their shells for the first time in their lives. This is the first time many are enjoying the beautiful world that has been created for us - and it IS beautiful. Incredibly so. DON'T ruin this for them.

We Dark Souls 3 fans may have our differences, but we will not hesitate to come to the aid of our fellow undead, especially against someone who so virulently slurs that which has brought us all together.
Don't take this the wrong way. I don't hate you. I don't fear you.

    I pity you.

I'm sorry that you feel this way towards us. I'm sorry that Dark Souls 3 is such a bane to your existence. And I'm sorry that you are missing out on such a wonderful experience. Mostly, though, I'm sorry that you feel the need to go around and publicly chastise and berate others. I'm sorry that, to ensure your own validity, you need to make others feel invalid. I'm sorry that your self-worth is so infinitesimally miniscule that you have to make others feel less-than-human, at least in your own denatured mind, just to feel whole. I am truly sorry that day-in and day-out you have to put up with your worthless, meaningless, Shakespearean tragedy of a life.
I ask you politely to cease your unnecessary cries for attention, and instead invite you to join our ranks. Uninstall Call of Duty, start up Dark Souls 3, and breathe in the splendour and the amazement of the interwoven levels, and then, maybe, just maybe, you'll see what you've been so hopelessly searching for this whole time.

It's basically mindless spamming all the way.
And then of course, there's the PvP. Invasions are a total nonsense now, duelling gets very old very fast. Two of the covenants still don't work properly. I'll admit to having good fun as an Aldrich and a Watchdog though.
The last DLC was easily the worst DLC From have made in these games. Way too short, uninspiring and basically nothing new.
Shouldn't be surprised that a niche game that becomes popular is suddenly dumbed down to appeal to the masses, but for a game that made its name by being difficult, this is even more hard to swallow. An awful way to end the series and I'm not sure that I'd buy a DS4 anyway if this is the new direction. Shame.

I haven't had this much fun with Souls game since Demon's Souls! While I loved Dark Souls 1 and 2 there felt like something was missing for me...I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Dark Souls 3 seems to have added all the positive from the previous games and a few negatives(framerate).

Anyway anybody that rates this game less than an 8 needs their head examined..

    Overall:
If you liked the other games in the series, you'll likely be right at home here. The only caveat I would add is that if you haven't played the earlier Souls games, but are instead coming from Bloodborne, be wary that this is a very different game in terms of the pace of combat. Some Bloodborne players will find the change jarring and will lose interest in the slower pace found here.

What should I say? It's another top quality experience from From Software even though it doesn't achieve the dense athmosphere of Boodborne. Not quite as hard as previous entries, it is a highly satisfying and beautiful conclusion to the series that made the biggest impression on me in recent years. Thank you From Software!

The bosses arent insanely difficult and if youre having trouble you can summon an offline npc to help

There is a whole lot here for you to delve into . Story telling is told through item descriptions , npc conversations as well as some fantastic environmental storytelling . It's all there if you want or care to look for it .

As stated earlier I am a huge from fan as these are the games I had dreamed of playing in my childhood . While playing Zelda and castlevania and the like I had never thought gaming would come so far as it has . Upon firing dark souls 3 up you will be greeted with a cutscene . After this you will be prompted to create a character from a starting class . After you have completed this you will be thrust into the bonfire so to speak . The first area of the game is basically a tutorial teaching you the nuances of this game . For me personally I had to retrain myself from my overly aggressive bloodborne play style that however was the nature of that beast . Be advised you will face 2 bosses in your opening 5 minutes of play time one of these is optional . Combat is still fast paced and brutal here but still has that souls special sauce and flavor from fans crave .

The combat creature design level design and sound are all out of this world and personally to me this is what from has become known for and deservedly so . Fans of previous games will see familiar sights and people as well as other nods to previous from titles . Gone is the disconnected mess that was dark souls 2 you will find some intricate pathways that loop around in and under locations in the game . While still not as groundbreaking or brilliant as the originals level design I would say it's easily on par with bloodborne . That is really saying something .

To those who are on the fence about this game . Do not be intimated ! Yes there is a lot to learn and wrap your head around but it is well worth the effort . From respects the player probably more than anyone else in the industry . They want you to succeed they believe In you and give you the tools to achieve it . The community to this game has its jerks but the majority has been vary welcoming to me and much like from they want to see you do well ! Two of the best feelings in gaming can be found right here and they are the feelings you get from felling a giant foe that fills your tv screen or teaming up with 2 friends to the do the same and explore Lothric together .

So the later part of my review was for people who've never played these games for those that have you will be pleased . I think this just may be my favorite from game to date it is by far most definitely my favorite souls game . The creature design , the weapons , the absolutely gorgeous sights this game wants you to drink it in to take your time and really dig into it if you do you are in for one of the most rewarding and unique experiences in your life . It won't all be sunshine and rainbows and the game will try to stomp you down but stick it out put effort into it and you too will join the legion of sun bros and girls . Now stop reading this tripe and go and praise the sun !!

Dark Souls III is, by far, the hardest game I have ever played. As a person who loved and was decent at Bloodborne, this game proved to be quite the challenge. It is a little glitchy, and some of the bosses are a little weak, but this is a challenging, yet very exhilarating game to play.

FromSoftware games like Dark Souls, Bloodborne and Demon Souls will always divide the crowd because on the one hand you have an excellent combat, strategy based rank up style adventure game, and on the other hand you have the games much debated difficulty level, average graphics and somewhat uninspiring and often hard to follow story-lines.

Having said that I loved Dark Souls 3 personally!

Yes its hard, yes its frustrating and yes its sometimes a little annoying too but jeez is it addictive! FromSoftware rewards players that take their time to study the environment and enemies and come up with a strategy. Learning from WHY you died is the most important thing here.

If you want a super engaging cool story-line play GTA. If you want near perfect graphics play Uncharted.

If you want an awesome combat RPG that's ridiculously hard but makes you keep coming back for more until you kill that sucker, then play Dark Souls 3. Be prepared to commit 50+ hours to get through it.

DS3 is definitely closer to Bloodborne, although Ds3 appears to have deeper game mechanics and more variety in weapons, armor and spells than in Bloodborne.

It can be devilishly hard, last night it took me at least 12 deaths before I made it to the 1st bonfire in the catacombs. I very nearly gave up when I got invaded just round the corner from the bonfire and lost my souls! But 5 mins later I was back on, taking it cautious, using the knowledge I had gained on my surroundings and the types of enemies I was fighting, finally making it to the bonfire and then the Boss.

This is what I love about DS3, it is hard to master but fair. The deaths you encounter are your own fault. You learn to become the best, the game makes you learn everything about it or you will not survive. But you can tackle it in a style that suits you, there are many options to build a character and style that suits your play style, adding replay value if you wish to start again with a completely different fighting style and weapons.

The graphics are stunning, the environments brilliant and the world is a magical and terrifying place that will stay with you long after turning the game off, the controls are perfect. Enemies are varied and grotesque and bosses are intimidating and creative.

The music score ranges from big epic themes to dark brooding and menacing sounds, each score fits the level wonderfully.

I highly recommend this game to all PS4 owners. Even if you haven't played a souls game, put the time in and eventually it will click and you will have one of the current greatest gaming experiences.

The bosses are some of the most epic fights of all the series, they really focused on making sure everyone of them stood out. there are maybe two or three bosses that maybe could have been done better but they you can tell that a lot of effort was put into them this time around. The story really works for being the last souls game, and adds a lot to the lore to the series. the only thing I found disappointing was the last boss. the fight itself was excellent, but the lore and story implements of the fight were underwhelming, Im not gonna spoil anything but I was wanting more from the final boss of the last game. this was the most disappointing last boss in all soulsborne games in terms of lore. besides that though, this game will probably be my game of the year. The game is fun, of course, like every soul series you could expect, but that is it. There is not much innovative here. Bloodborne, on the other hand, is better than DarkSouls 3 in every aspect even though it came out earlier, except for multiplayer that DS3 is better but still in the same league as DS2. The difficulty is ok. Most bosses are easy but some are very tough (Nameless king). Soundtrack is clearly inferior to Bloodbonre. The length of the game is great.. NPC side quests are too complicated though. You will not be able to complete most of them without looking on guide in internet. Some maps feel like a maze, which I don't like it. Heavy armors are nerfed a lot in DS3 to the point you don't need to use them. There are a ton of weapons but most of them have same movesets, a bit tweak here and there. The new system, Asen Estus and weapon skill, is introduced here. It is good system though but it does not influence gameplay enough to feel fresh.

In sum, My solid score for DarkSouls 3 is 7/10. It is a good game but has a little improvement over DS2. I hope Fromsoft will overcome this obstacle and make greater game in the future.

All of the classes are fun to play as and allow you to adjust to that playing style fairly quickly, the gameplay is way more fluid than that of Dark Souls 2, and probably one of it's most defining features is that it's absolutely beautiful. The environments are gorgeous, the world is atmospheric and detailed, and it's easily one of the prettiest games I've ever played.

One big change I've noticed, not just from Dark Souls 2, but all of the games in the series, is that I'm loving the characters. I won't spoil anything because you need to see it for yourself, so I'll just say that I was actually interested in what they had to say to me.

Now for the big question: is Dark Souls 3 hard?. I'm here to say that yes. It is. In fact, it's the hardest game in the series, meaning that if you play the game for the challenge, you're in for a treat. Once again, I don't want to spoil anything, but as you would expect, the hardest part of the game is the bosses, which are probably the game's best moments.

Overall, Dark Souls 3 doesn't live up to the name of Dark Souls 1, but it's still a MASSIVE improvement on the very disappointing Dark Souls 2. If this really is the last game in the series, it's a worthy send-off to the series. 9/10 (I wish i could give 9.5).

From Software has done a great job designing Lothric from the shacks in the Undead Settlement, to libraries and towers in Lothric Castle. The game has a fantastic pacing to the game and even the exploration is good.

The bosses have taken a note from Bloodborne, now having multiple stages to the encounter. You will get a boss to either 50% or kill them just for them to come back stronger then ever for round two. Most bosses bring out that excitement when fighting them, trying to figure out their pattern and when to attack, but some feel dull and lackluster, but fortunately it is more of earlier bosses then later.

Another change From Software has changed is the death system, as you will die...a lot. As in previous games you would slowly lose maximum health as you hollow until you use an item to reverse it. Here you are unkindled, one to bring the lords back to their thrones. When you die, you will not hollow unless you start a specific quest. Instead when you die you lose your cinders and your max health will decrease to its normal amount. To recover from this, you can either kill a boss (either in your own game or another's) or use a ember. Embers are hard to come by in your own game as they are a limited resource, but when you kill a boss in coop play, not only do you recover your cinders, you will also normally get an ember. It seems that this really encourages coop play as much as the pvp.

Unfortunately though, the game is not perfect. It suffers from some of the dull bosses i had mentioned before, but also a few slowdowns in more intense areas just as Bloodborne before it.

Besides its few minor flaws, the game is fantastic, a must buy for any From Software or RPG fan.

You should also ignore any review dated on release date, as the game is impossible to accurately review in a single day. Both the negative reviews and those written on release day are posted for 'likes' and attention, nothing more.

Anyway, the game itself is outstanding, as you would expect and manages to surpass even the bench mark that is Dark Souls 1.

Good - The world and level design are by far the best of any souls game. The levels connect together beautifully but are also pretty large to boot. They are also beautiful to look at and provide an amazing atmosphere somewhere in between souls and Bloodborne. Some of the best level design I have ever seen, putting many other games to shame.

The gameplay, as always, is top notch and very addictive with a large number of playstyles available which makes for hundreds of hours of gameplay and provides huge replayability. The bosses are far superior to Dark Souls 2 and actually mean something again making them even more memorable than Dark Souls 1 or Demon's.

There are also a great number of weapons and armor sets to discover which has always been a part of souls games.

Bad - The character creator isn't great with a few bugs and issues that seemed to have carried over from Bloodborne, thin, Giraffe like necks being one, hopefully it will be patched but Bloodborne never was. The worst thing is having item 'drop rates' - which is nothing more than a lazy way to make items hard to get. Devs can't think of anything better so simply slap a 1% drop rate on something to make it difficult to obtain. It can make trying to get a particular armor set very frustrating and simply is not any fun.

Verdict - An amazing game that is the finest Souls to date and at least equals Bloodborne. This will score a 9 or even a 10 for me with some sizeable dlc. Addictive, creative and atmospheric Dark Souls 3 completely delivers. 8/10.

I love games and I always seek a challenge. Game for me is not finished unless I did it on the highest difficulty level. Shortly after getting a PS4, my first console, my girlfriend convinced me to buying DS3. She heard it’s a difficult game and she though I might like it. I started with Thief class and the boss during tutorial just wiped the floor with me. After few hours of trying I stopped and took a break for couple of weeks. Then I came back and after many tries managed to beat the boss. In next few days I made probably every possible mistake one can make playing this game. Picking character with weapon that has shortest possible range, check, fat rolling, check, no upgrading weapons, flask, or even souls level, check. Yes, I just went straight to second location without doing anything with NPCs. I had no idea about sneaking. Enemy knights with spear were almost unkillable. When I couldn’t beat second boss with my tiny knife I took another break from the game for few weeks. Before coming back I read some tips and then started again but this time absolutely falling in love with this game. 48 hours and I finished for the first time and another 50h for second play through with both DLCs and I think about playing it again.

This game rewards you, your skill and not character level or gear. If you want to be a badass, YOU need to become one, not your character. In most games, even on highest difficulty level once you pass some point, it gets really easy. In Dark Souls, if you’re fighting a dragon that is a size of a building and you’re just a tiny human, it’s going to be hard. If it punches you, your armour doesn’t matter and when you punch it with your toothpick don’t expect to inflict too much pain. Strength in such case is irrelevant, you’re just a tiny fly for them.

The game feels like a Bloodbourne game with its gravestones and cathedrals - god there must have been at least eight cathedrals! - and although the game play was entertaining for sure, I never really felt interested in downing the next boss. At times the bonfires were placed so close to the bosses that the whole back and forth between checkpoint and boss became not so much a test in endurance but a study in frustration. I always try to play the Souls game solo on my first run but this was the first time I actually did not care anymore. The worst part though was definetly the pandering and endless references to the first Dark Souls. Where it not or the Bloodbourne gothic imagery, the game could have seemed like a fan made tribute with all its reoccuring characters, places and so forth. Up til this moment I'd always regarded the series as a game with a strong sense of integrity but not anymore. I understand how people like it though, as it's still a good play and the bosses are as challenging as ever. Maybe I'm just done with Souls. Expand

The game gets a perfect 10 for me, enjoying it more than I have enjoyed a game in quite some time. Personally, I was a little disappointed with Dark Souls 2 (though still a very good game). I'm happy to say Dark Souls 3 feels much improved and makes for an excellent finale to a beloved franchise. I can't see any From Software fans being disappointed with this one.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is easily the best game in the whole "SolulsBorne" series. I don't think that 5000 characters is enough to comprehend it's amazing aspect, so i'll just stick to the standard "pros and cons" system.
    PROS:
-the graphics are AMAZING. The textures still suck but From used a handful of visual effects to make the graphics look great.
-sound effects have always been a big part of the series, and this game definitely lives up to it's predecessors.
-combat is at satisfying and rewarding as ever.
-the lore, the lore! Everything you do feels like you really are taking part in the world around you.
-it's difficult yet fair at the same time. 90% of the time you got killed because you made a fatal mistake.
-the bosses are creative and smart. Less dudes in armor, more wicked beasts and gruesome remains of what might have been an everyday human being once. (*cough cough Dancer of the Boreal Valley *cough*)
-almost every area is connected. For example, in Farron Keep you can get on the other side of the destroyed bridge you've visited in the beginning of the game.
-a whole truckload of miscellaneous items and weapons. I still have no idea what half of them do.
-incredible soundtrack. Boy, does the music hit you hard.
    -coop! As good as ever.
-PVP! Just like i said above.
-the secrets are incredible, and everytime i find something hidden i feel like a medieval Indiana Jones.
    -many, many more.
    CONS
-the hitboxes still suck a huge gorilla dong. Remember when i said that your deaths are fair 90% of the time? The remaining 10% hits you in the least expected moments.
-don't even get me started on PVP connection issues. I hate getting backstabbed by a player 10 meters away.
-some of the bosses are laughably easy, most of them you meet during first 20 hours of the game. (i'm looking at you, big skeleton dude and cathedral bishop dudes)
-level design. I know it's like a tradition in SoulsBorne, but some of the levels are just too damn confusing.

First, a disclaimer: Even though the DLC for this game is out, this review will be covering Dark Souls 3's base game specifically. Dark Souls 3 is an Action RPG by From Software in the style of Demon Souls, as well as Dark Souls 1 & 2. This game follows behind an underrated classic, what is considered one of the best action RPG games of all time, and Dark Souls 2. So how does it stack up? I personally believe Dark Souls 3 is the best in the series (including Bloodborne). Let's start with the least important stuff about the game, and work up to the stuff that makes Dark Souls Dark Souls. First off, and least importantly: Graphics. The game graphically looks beautiful, far better than even Bloodborne. I stood in awe for 3 or 4 minutes upon first entering Irithyll. The Profaned Capitol, Archdragon Peak, and the previously mentioned Boreal Valley look absolutely stunning. The bosses all have unique looks that compliment the level and world they're in beautifully. Next: The sound. The sound in this game is very good overall, with amazing music for bosses and interesting tracks for the hub world and menus. I wish the enemy's sound design was a bit more varied, but it's quite good other than that (-1 pt.) Next up: The story. This game's story takes the usual Dark Souls approach of mainly being thrown out in Item Descriptions and cryptic dialogue. The items in this game are plentiful, and there are many intricate and well thought out stories and backstories, as Dark Souls usually contains. Your story takes place long past the events of the first two games, a fact reflected through the items and a few amazing late game events that I won't spoil. You have to kill a bunch of crazies who either lit the fire before you, or were supposed to and decided "Nah". You're helped out by a bunch of tragic characters along the way, and it retains the grim, oppressive atmosphere that Souls does better than most. Now, most importantly: The Gameplay. The DS3 gameplay is just as tight and fluid as previous installments that aren't Dark Souls 2. Everything is responsive, the bosses are almost all well done, one even likely taking the spot as my favorite all time boss (The Abyss Watchers). And, while the PvE game is the best we may have ever seen, the PvP suffers from a few series-wide issues. First off: lag. Every game has lag, but Dark Souls is too fast to really be able to afford too much of it. This is unfortunately something they didn't iron out in Dark Souls 3, so prepare for a lot of deaths from players teleportation around the map with what feels like an AOL port of Dark Souls 3. This isn't to say that lag is always there, but it's a prevalent issue. Also, like every Dark Souls game, there are some 40 pieces of armor and weapons that From decided to just not put into the game. This wouldn't bother me so much if one of the sets of armor wasn't the Giants Set, effectively ruining my DS3 Giant Dad experience. (-1 pt) So, is the game worth it? Hell yeah it is! The game is 60$, but it's often on sale for less than half that much. Even at full price, however, this game is more than worth it. Expand

This was my first Dark Souls and I must say that I found it epic! I completed the whole game twice, but I don't have enough time to make an NG ++, sadly I'll stay without getting the platinum because of the rings, maybe someday, who knows?

Graphically it's a very good game, you'll find much better graphics in other titles, but the atmosphere and soundtrack are incredible. I personally didn't understand the lore of the game, but after I finished my first walkthrough I read a few forums and blogs and so I understood a little more. But partly is because if you haven't played Dark Souls before you won't understand much, even so, many people still doesn't understand it! And don't get me wrong, I don't blame FromSoftware here, they made a really different game and for that I appreciate them.

Besides not understanding much of the lore, if it's your first DS, you will suffer with the first boss, the gameplay is really different from anything you know. A side from that, in my first walkthrough, only two or three bosses gave me problems, the rest were much more manageable.

The game itself is complicated, progress is slow and tedious, you're always in tension, because as soon as you relax you die. But given how easy are games nowadays, I thank to suffer a little bit and remember what is high difficulty.

Online is harsh, I'll tell you that, there are really good players out there, I managed to kill some, but it's not my thing. Even so I played online both walkthroughs and gave fair fights.

My recommendation is to play it if you haven't already done so, but don't expect to understand the lore, and the first boss... give it many tries and patience, he will end up going down, from there everything gets better. Every boss is a new challenge, and boy does it feel good when they die!

    Praise the sun!

I loved, loved, LOVED DS1. After several ragequits, something about it settled into my heart as a flawed masterpiece....eventually. No matter my hatred for its excessively punishing respawns, DS1 had a great charm to it from its lore, fantasy world, and OUTSTANDING level design. It was dark, somber, but somehow, beautiful, like its ending theme song (youtube Nameless Song ost). Seriously,I loved, loved, LOVED DS1. No matter my hatred for its excessively punishing respawns, DS1 had a great charm to it from its lore, fantasy world, and OUTSTANDING level design. It was dark, somber, but somehow, beautiful, like its ending theme song (youtube Nameless Song ost). Seriously, this team has some amazing imagination.

    It earned the name "genre-defining".

DS3 had big shoes to fill, and missed it. The one thing that immediately turned me off was the input delay. C'mon, folks: it's 2020, this shouldn't be an issue anymore. From swinging your weapon, to casting a spell, to most unforgivable of all: DODGE ROLLING. When you press O to dodge, there's a .5s delay until you roll. That alone broke the game for me and made it unplayable. In DS1, my style THRIVED off of wearing minimal gear, but out-maneuvering my target. The enemy attacks are sometimes super fast, so it rewarded reflexive dodging. I could beat most bosses naked! DS3, you wear heavy equipment in every slot, bc nothing else is viable. There's also no 3 levels to movement speed. You're either under-weight, or overweight. There's also some research that suggests leaving a single slot open largely increases the damage you take.

The death system also feels dated. Dying, respawning, and running to where you were gets obnoxiously tedious. Combine that with the numerous OHK's plastering the world or losing your precious currency AGAIN, and you often feel more like you're running on a treadmill. 75% of your game time will be fighting the same enemies over the same stretch of land again and again and again and again bc your roll delays, you're stunlocked, and back to spawn. Worse yet is this punishes you for exploring. Why wander off the path just to be OHK then lose everything? Eventually, you'll just run straight for bonfires bc the combat isn't fun anymore.

What's supposed to make this better is summoning others into coop, but they STILL haven't fixed another issue: invasions. Look, if I want to fight a no-life 16 yr old thats spend 1,000 hours perfecting his toon's stats, gear, spells, and every cheap kill on the map, I would say so, but I don't. I want to play COOP: THAT MEANS ME, WITH ONE PERSON ON MY TEAM, VS THE GAME. There's no option to tell these no-lifers to f*** off and LET ME PLAY THE GAME. Once you're invaded, you might as well just turn off your console, bc you won't have a prayer against the no-lifers. Even if you've done all you can to empower your toon, the invader is at least 5x stronger than you in every way, and has about 30 hp potions to your 5 or so. Even if you DO get the upper hand with some outplays, they'll just roll, roll, roll, roll, drink a pot to full hp, then come back, rinse and repeat as necessary until they exhaust all your options. WORST OF ALL, all these ppl do with their lives is sit here, afk in a video game, waiting to invade someone, so you'll find that same kid again and again and again until you burn out your resource used to summon help. Don't EVEN get me started on how buggy, laggy, and sloppy the pvp is, which means even pvp is....you guessed it: a huge waste of time.

Another beef I have is how DS3 is sooo cryptic, that unless you have the wiki open next to you, you're going to miss 90% of the content. Getting NPC's to join you is waaaay too complicated, the weapon upgrade system isn't explained, the backstabs system is WHOOOOOOO wtffffffff? NOTHING is explained to you. AT. ALL. You have to do so much research, it feels more like school homework. So much time is wasted researching and reading. The game is way too meaty with you chewing and chewing and chewing, through meaty layer after meaty layer of research, respawning, dying, getting invaded, researching, dying, (ofc most of those deaths being the controls or glitches) and never ever getting anywhere. Before you know it, you've spent 10hrs dying, researching, and fighting off an invader b4 you've even seen the 2nd boss, not enjoy a moment of it, and eventually conclude: you'd rather be playing something else.

DS3 is nothing but a huge, empty, waste of time.

If you have absolutely nothing to do, if you are obsessively competitive, unemployed, or if you can't function w/o bragging and mocking someone, if you get off on tormenting ppl that can't defend themselves and cuss you out, or any of the above, this is your game. I'll leave you with a conversation I had with a DS fanboy that couldn't let criticism of his golden cow go unshamed:

"I have np with the game. You're just bad. Gid gud. I got all the achievements."

    "I got a job."

It is remarkable dedication that has had " from software " with this game, but there are some problems in graphics and game balance defects , fortunately are not as frequent as to ruin the experience .

I think the graphic limitations on consoles, only demonstrates that the hardware is obsolete long ago, Dark Souls does not run at 60 FPS but still looks great . On a PC it looks like it deserves.

it is a HARD but fun game. but there is not that much of innovation. bosses use similar patterns and graphics are same as bloodborne. but some stone gates looks like **** also personally did not liked some bosses having two health bars. kinda feels cheap because first health bar is really easy. it just feels like it is there to waste my 3min. but still, a fun game.

Stirred from the slumber of death, and called to quell the powerful Lords of Cinder, you play the role of an Ashen One in FROMSoftware's latest title: Dark Souls 3. Traversing castles, towers and various ruins, your journey will test the limits of your pitiable existence as you put down restless souls throughout the kingdom of Lothric in an attempt to "link the fire" and restore the kingdom to some semblance of normalcy.

FROM's latest installment in their Dark Souls franchise attempts to strike out of the mold by incorporating some elements of their recent hit, Bloodborne. While the faster combat will certainly stir some feelings of familiarity for those who have conquered the Lovecraftian action-RPG, there's not much else. No, this title falls squarely in Dark Souls territory: you know it from the minute you see the shield in your off-hand at the character creation screen. Fights are to be approached with caution, as even the humblest of enemies can deliver a swift and punishing death.

While Dark Souls 3 is more defense-oriented, the purposefulness of combat will sharpen your strategic mind. Coming across a pack of enemies, a flurry of thoughts cross your mind: Can any of them use ranged attacks? How fast do they run? What kind of weapons are they wielding? Maybe you pull one out of the pack with an arrow to better your odds, maybe you sneak behind and target the squishiest enemy with a backstab attack. There is certainly some room for variety in your tactics, and the constant fear combined with engagement lends to an entertaining and consistent gameplay experience.

A major pain-point of the Dark Souls series has been, and continues to be, camera performance. Targeting and un-targeting enemies is essential in games like this, and yet on some occasions the camera responds dismally when utilizing the targeting system in closed-quarters. The spinning camera is not only disorienting, it can certainly be the difference between life and death, which of course results in angry gamers and serves to highlight the problem even more.

Even without camera issues, it's no secret that the Dark Souls franchise prides itself on its difficulty. Across gaming forums and in living rooms across the country you'll hear the common response to gamers' complaints about the title: "Git Gud". However, like the flame that flickers within the spirit of our protagonist, the novelty of Dark Souls difficulty is fading. After playing the first two Dark Souls to completion, and thoroughly conquering Bloodborne (platinum trophy GET), many bosses were familiar, and the strategies I had used in the previous months were surprisingly effective. Still, while the boss fights falter in difficulty, the ever-lurking threat of death seeded in the mobs that patrol Lothric force you to remain vigilant.

If there's one element that Dark Souls 3 improved on from previous entries, it would be the world that it casts us into. Aesthetically, it's a major improvement over the last two titles. I often found myself distracted by the landscape, a fatal error in a game like this one, and one I paid the price for on at least two occasions. As for the story itself, it is at its best when you remain unaware of the larger picture. Other titles guide you down their storyline road brick by brick until you arrive at your final destination. Dark Souls prefers that the player approach it as a 1,000 piece puzzle: getting bits and pieces at a time, sometimes out of order, certainly requiring more than one play-through, until it can be appreciated in all its glory. Many players may leave the puzzle unfinished and still be able to walk away satisfied, but for those who persist, the reward is sweet.

In short, Dark Souls 3 delivers just about everything fans of the series have come to expect: punishing difficulty, a vast and mysterious world with untold secrets (many of which you don't know that you don't know), and a long and lonely journey through a dark and shattered world. Any fan of the Dark Souls franchise should be glad to have this in their library.

    Praise the sun!

The only reason I am not going to give it a 10 is because one of the multiplayer aspects of the game. When one is summoned in the souls games, and die while summoned, one does not lose any souls. So I was pretty upset to learn that in Souls III my (very expensive) ring of sacrifice was broken upon dying while summoned. This should not happen unless I die in my own world, as in the last two games. I was pretty put out about that when it happened. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this is a small oversight that will eventually be rectified in later patches. Other than that, this game is amazing. Great story lines for the various NPC's, amazing rendering on the landscapes, huge and sprawling expansive areas in which to treasure hunt, fun armor and weapon sets to play around with, and wonderfully imaginative and challenging boss fights! Bravo! Expand

Dark Souls 3 is an epic sendoff to the series. The areas are rich in mythology and the enemies are truly unique to each of them. The boss fights seem to be a bit recycled from the previous souls games but they still are extremely fun and a challenge. The multiplayer is nice, but gets annoying at times because of the lag.

No innovates anything because the formula is made with Demons / Dark Souls but takes a big step forward compared to the Dark Souls 2 .

Playing with friends is pretty good. Up to 3 friends made the experience better, mostly because it's always fun doing **** with buds, though in my second run through I played it all by myself and it was tough but fun and I would recommend people doing the same.

Compared to DS1, online play feels alot smoother. I've never been hit from 10 meters away, I've never gotten hit while rolling and there have been very, VERY few times where the other player is in the same pose moving around.

Overall a must for anyone who isn't very fond of the souls games and wants to give it a try. I even wanna try demon souls after gaining experience through this one, though going from the decent graphics in this game to the Playstation 2 graphical fidelity from Demon souls is gonna be tough.

That being said, as a DS1 vet it was good to see a lot of throwbacks to arguably the best Souls game, but it may have been too much fan service for some. However, what DS1 vets didn't like to see were the number of bosses. It actually has the least number of bosses in any Soulsborne game to date (DLC plz) with 19.
Combat feels smooth with (in my experience) accurate hitboxes and if I die it's not because of controls or game mechanics, it's cause I suck/screwed up.
PvP is frustrating but will hopefully smoothen out glitches and rebalance weapons (Estoc plz) and if you love invading get used to getting ganked (Google if unsure).
Voice acting and graphics are nice as every character and every area has its own unique feel.
TL;DR - Good sendoff for fans of the Souls series.
