It also reminds me of Yoshi’s Island due to its breathtaking cartoony style, its focus on collecting (red coins / boxes), and its continuous introduction (and escalation) of new mechanics throughout the game. It is an endless joy to play (and replay and replay difficult sections). It’s full of secrets, close calls, reversed/remixed levels, bonus stages, playable characters, new skins and more. It’s BETTER than the thing it’s based on which speaks to the quality of the Toys For Bob team. They analyzed exactly what a crash game should be, mechanically, visually, and took it to the next level. Granted, the PS1 had a lot more limitations those geniuses had to grapple with so we can’t hold it against them that they didn’t make a game of Crash 4’s precise quality. In fact ... Crash 4 reveals the simple beauty of their design. This feels like an evolved version of what they set out to do, and I imagine that the original Crash devs will savor (along with fans) what this team has accomplished both in homage and advancement. 11 out of 10… Expand

It may never get the same accolades as a Mario game, but with its old school difficulty, this brought me back to my childhood in a way that modern nintendo games (with the exception of DK: Tropical Freeze) do not. At the same time, it smartly modernizes the crash bandicoot formula in a way that respects the originals while still being innovative. There have been complaints of how secretive many of the crates are, and the lack of handholding, but for those who grew up in the NES era, where games didn’t apologize for being tough as nails, this will be a refreshing challenge in a sea of watered down mediocrity. One of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had. Also, heads up. Take your time exploring the levels before trying to get all the crates. Lots of tricky hidden ones.    … Expand

    I’m gonna start this review off with a bit of an anecdote: back in June of 2019, shortly after its release, I reviewed “Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled,” and in the final sentence of the review, I suggested that Activision, after two successful “Crash Bandicoot” remakes, try their hand at a new, wholly original “Crash Bandicoot” game. After all, while that game, along with the “CrashI’m gonna start this review off with a bit of an anecdote: back in June of 2019, shortly after its release, I reviewed “Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled,” and in the final sentence of the review, I suggested that Activision, after two successful “Crash Bandicoot” remakes, try their hand at a new, wholly original “Crash Bandicoot” game. After all, while that game, along with the “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy,” were great titles, we hadn’t gotten an entirely original game in the franchise since 2008’s polarizing “Crash: Mind over Mutant.” Clearly, Activison’s studios knew what they were doing when it came to crafting faithful “Crash Bandicoot” titles, so I was more than ready to see what kind of new adventures they could take the orange marsupial in. Little did I think that just about a year later, they’d come forward and announce the next game, fittingly titled “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time!,” and let me just say, you’re damn right it is. The second entry in the series to bear the “Crash Bandicoot 4” name in some way (after 2001’s “Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex”), this game caught my eye as soon as the previews came out, and it was one I was very much looking forward to. And let me tell you, it’s every bit as glorious as I hoped it would be.
    “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time!” brings back the classic “Crash” gameplay, and does a marvelous job of translating it to a new generation. Crash’s movement feels fluid, the platforming elements are strong as usual, and this game certainly brings the challenge. Believe me when I say, no matter whether you go for everything in the game or not, this game is going to kick your ass in more ways than one. Fortunately, though, the challenge is welcome, and even if the game gets difficult, it’s not an unfair type of difficult: it’s a test, sure, but the challenge feels smart and the level design is so brilliant, you’ll feel rewarded when you get through the levels. The game also features plenty of new content to keep things fresh, chief among them being the new masks. These masks bring new powers to Crash that allows for great new ways of platforming, and they also help the creators get even more creative and exciting with the level design. Furthermore, the addition of new types of levels, like N. Verted levels and Flashback levels are great, as are the numerous gameplay styles brought to the forefront with new playable characters, like Tawna, Dingodile, and even Neo Cortex himself. All of these characters have their own charm to them, and are an absolute blast to play. Visually, the game is beautifully designed, the environments are wonderful to look at, and the game is bursting out of the screen with colors. Beyond how wild the gameplay goes, the visual design is equally as inventive. And while the story may not be the main focus of “Crash” games, I enjoy this game’s many callbacks to Crash’s previous adventures, and I think the characters and dialogue are charming and hilarious.
    I honestly can’t think of any negatives about the game that really detract from my enjoyment of it. Yes, the game is extremely challenging, but as I mentioned, it’s a welcoming challenge. It’s not packed with “fake difficulty,” it’s a game that’s smartly crafted and, as difficult as it can get, it feels rewarding when you do a great job.
    Overall, “Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time!” is everything that I hoped it would be, and it’s exactly what “The Wrath of Cortex” should’ve been almost two decades ago. It’s the finest “Crash Bandicoot” game that I’ve played since “Crash Bandicoot: Warped!,” and it establishes that Crash is back and better than ever. It’s a beautiful, faithful, unforgettable adventure for the orange marsupial, and it makes me happy to see how excellent of a job Toys For Bob did with this game. It’s truly amazing, and beyond being one of the best games I’ve played this year, it’s far and away one of the best entries in this great series. I can’t wait to see where the series goes from here. Also, hey, Activision, so I’m thankful you answered my request for a new “Crash” game from the “Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled” review, and if you don’t mind, I have just one more plea for you guys. I don’t want to ask for too much, so I’ll make it quick, but…can “Spyro” be next?

Crash 4 takes the best elements of the original 3 platformers (including many excellent aspects of Crash 1 that were abandoned even by Naughty Dog) and builds on top of them. The art style is striking and brilliant. The animation is full of personality consistent with and surpassing the originals, and each level is beautifully detailed. Extra playable characters are a wonderful addition and totally keep in line with the feel of the rest of the game. Mandatory parts of the game are a solid challenge, but the bonus stages and optional content are on another level. These segments will push your Crash platforming ability to the limits and are immensely satisfying to complete. This is a beautiful game full of personality and excellent content.     This game is awesome, beyond the nostalgic feelings it bring us new stuff and very well worked! From music to game mechanics, high difficulty, maps, visual awesomeness and more! Of course a soul from the 90's era, im34 years old and i can say this is the best crash ever! Very recommended!

    The movement, it is also enjoyable, the classic slide into the spin move makes going fast fun.

    I am an avid fan of Crash 3 Warped, and Crash 4 set my expectations through the roof.

    Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time is direct sequel to the previous trilogy and a new release to the series in over 10-whole-years! Previous original release (not counting remakes) was Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped, which It’s About Time continues directly from. I know, all the names and releases might get little bit confusing, because the series started all the way from 1996 on PS1 through PS4, and some releases in U.S. and EU got different names on them — AND! — there’s also other Crash -games that are out of the main series. Sigh. But, that doesn’t mean, you can’t play this newest game! Not at all!

    Crash Bandicoot games used to have rather simple storylines and they can be read online quickly, if you wanna catch up. If you really wanna jump-in, then you should play Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the remade first three games. One huge difference It’s About Time has to the previous titles; the story got much more content this time around. I mean, there’s even some plot twists and all!! The amount of cutscenes also seems more than tripled with new characters included.

    I love the whole plot and storytelling, specially those overlapping plots (i.e. what happens elsewhere at the same time and how it affects your current gameplay). The gameplay and story got more longetivity by throwing twists and turns in it, which did felt as they belong than forcefully trying to make the game longer.

    GAMEPLAY, CONTROLS, GRAPHICS AND SOUND:
    Comparing to the previous release (N. Sane Trilogy), It’s About Time is pretty much the same with the gameplay. I did feel this being more easy title, than the N. Sane Trilogy, becauase I couldn’t completely finish that title, but this one was much more ease to play through. The game also does include lots of new stuff like those masks that grants superpowers, N. Verted mode (that changes the levels to create more challenge), new character Tawna, Timelines (playing levels with other character’s perspective), Flashback tapes (to play levels that tell stories Crash and Coco’s past) and many other new and old things were added to keep the gameplay interesting. I must say, I was first time ever interested to collect everything and try to beat the game 100%! Everything felt balanced and the levels got harder peacefully.

    Controls were almost the same, but of course including the new moves that comes with each mask and character. I have to mention something about the characters, though. All of them moves differently and it was painful trying to quickly be comfortable with them. It took time to memorize their moves and what they can do and what they cannot.

    Graphically this is like playing an animation movie. Everything’s such lush, colourful and rich. Level design stays true to the Crash Bandicoot series and I don’t think it needed any major changes. The levels and areas varies greatly from theme to theme, sometimes I just stopped playing and gazed the scenery.

    The sound desing was interesting, all sounded familiar, but new. All the new music and sound effects did remain the signature Crash Bandicoot style. In video games, the music or certain sound effects might get repeatedly annoying, but I didn’t feel any of that, because it varied greatly and didn’t felt copy-pasted.

    COMPILING IT ALL TOGETHER: Crash Bandicoot 4 has lots of characters (new and old) and fresh exciting story. I did find the story and the countless cutscene animations overly intriguing for the first time. The cutscenes didn’t always feel ultra short, like they previously used to be, but were long enough to grant a little break and gaze the beautiful and sharp animation.

    I think the new character Tawna should’ve had more exposure and levels to play, because her skill and moves were cool. For the first time I think there’s so much content in a Crash Bandicoot game, that I’m not gonna explain them all here, but let players discover them by themselves. I did play this long hours (almost 20h) and for a long period of time, because I did wanted to collect things and find secrets. Don’t be afraid to jump off the screen or try some odd stunt moves, to check does it hide a secret, because I did just that all the time, and was surprised to find hidden things.

    Crash Bandicoot 4 has a long lifespan and great replayability value. Yes, I did lost my nerve sometimes, but it wasn’t like it made me rage quit and throw the controller out of the window, because the game is developed to help if you fail too many times. It’ll add checkpoint boxes or grants you Aku-Aku mask for make it little easier to reach the next checkpoint.

    This is excellent sequel to the main series and I (who’ve been playing Crash games since 1998) truly recommend this to your platforming collection.

    Without any doubt, one of the best platformers i have ever played. Toys For Bob knows how to return old franchises to this original glory days (Spyro Reignited Trilogy another example). Crash is back!!!

    Not only is the game the best Crash Bandicoot game and a game that is a worthy follow up to the original trilogy of games, but it also competes with the N Sane Trilogy for title of best Crash game. Like seriously the game is just that good. This is what people wanted but never got out of a Crash sequel to the trilogy. It is bigger and better. There is just so much content here that gettingNot only is the game the best Crash Bandicoot game and a game that is a worthy follow up to the original trilogy of games, but it also competes with the N Sane Trilogy for title of best Crash game. Like seriously the game is just that good. This is what people wanted but never got out of a Crash sequel to the trilogy. It is bigger and better. There is just so much content here that getting to full completion will not be easy but a lot of fun will be had along the way. Now the game isn't perfect but it is still lots of fun and my personal favourite Crash game. My only real issues would be the colour contrast in some levels isn't the best making certain things hard to see and the fact that the relics can be very hard to get for the average player but other than that the game is lots of fun. The game is certainly a challenge, but every play through of a level just makes you better and better at it to where you will eventually be able to master the whole level. Hermosos los niveles, nuevos desafios, mas personajes jugables, gran jugablidad, solo no me gusta los rediseños de los personajes, prefiero los del Crash N.Sane Trilogy. Pero el juegos es perfecto

    I had doubts going into this but in all honesty, besides the fact I was impartial to the running animation. I've absolutely loved this game. Difficulty is pretty high though so provides a challenge throughout, especially when trying to get 100%. That's a nightmare. But for a general story playthough, the length and variety has you going for hours non stop.     Crash e Mario são eternos. Para mim Os jogos de plataforma são muito mais legais do que os de mundo aberto. Está aí a prova de que não adianta mudar a fórmula. Todos aqueles que vieram depois do 3, foram para o esquecimento. Crash 4 até o fim do ano!!!!

    There's nothing I would change about this game. An Incredible and true sequel to Crash Bandicoot Warped. We waited a long time for this and I am not disappointed in the slightest.     Non posso fare a meno di dare 10, il gioco per me non merita 10 ma 9 in quanto non è la perfezione più totale sul fronte tecnico, graficamente é maestoso ma raramente ci si può incappare in qualche piccolissimo bug.
    Do 10 per alzare la media, davvero questo qui è il crash più bello e più difficile che io abbia mai giocato.
    I miei complimenti, questo è il giusto erede della saga.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Comincio dal fatto che per me è il miglior Crash Bandicoot dell'intera saga.
    Un gameplay incredibilmente gradevole e fresco che aggiunge a tutto ciò che era presente nei precedenti capitoli la wall-run e le tratte nelle "rotaie". Finalmente è possibile giocare con altri personaggi come Dingodile, Tawna e Cortex che, a discapito di un'abilità di Crash e Coco ne aggiungono una nuova (ad esempio il rampino, il lo spazzafoglie e la il raggio di Cortex.
    Il design è molto cartoonesco e si distacca dalla trilogia originale (soprattutto con vari dettagli molto più da Spyro) apprezzo questo stile perché probabilmente invecchierà meglio rispetto a quello della N.Sane Trilogy.
    La storia è un qualcosa di spettacolare, non riesco a credere al fatto che abbiano aggiunto una storia così bella, intricata e strana in certi tratti in un platform.
    Detto questo, c'è qualche piccolo dettaglio che non è proprio il massimo, ad esempio qualche bug visivo, telecamera troppo bassa in certi punti (anche se l'ombra migliorata risolve in parte questo problema) e le musiche facilmente dimenticabili.
    C'è però da fare i complimenti per come hanno gestito il doppio salto, farlo in questa maniera aiuta moltissimo il player a poter aggiustare la traiettoria del salto anche dopo l'esecuzione (cosa da non sottovalutare in un gioco del genere).
    Per me questo gioco merita un 10 pieno    … Expand

Crash and Coco are tried and true platformer experience, Cortex levels are similar to puzzles requiring trial and error to figure out how to reach the destination. Dingodile has a unique smash and shooter kind of gameplay using his suction gun to glide and using tnt barrels and crates to destroy obstacles and enemies. And finally Tawna's is a combination of platformer and grappling to reach higher areas similar to Nina Cortex's gameplay in Twinsanity. Each character controls extremely well with quick responsive movements and reaction times. Each level is beautifully designed and unique with enemies and obstacles only found in each dimension. Story wise it's the best Crash game yet. The story gets really dark in some places especially Tawna's. The soundtrack is also top notch easy on par with Cortex Strikes Back and Warped's soundtracks. Plus it has hours of replayability with Flashback Tapes, N, Verted mode and even multiplayer. Overall this is a solid game and worthy sequel to the Classic Naughty Dog Trilogy.… Expand

The level designs are to good , it also contains a lot of skin which you can earn by completing levels and earning gems , hopefully, there is no microtranslation in game , which means you can unlock skins by playing through the game , and the best part is that this time , we can play as tawna and dingodile and neo cortex , you can also have a new experiment with N.VERTED mode after you beat the game , story is fun and the flashback levels which combine with a nostalgic soundtracks is great , the control is also good and the game is challenging a lot .     Its so much fun, I honestly havent been this exited for a game in years, and it truly delivers, fingers crossed for a Crash 5 in a near future. Toys for bob really nailed it with this title, hope they keep going with crash and hopefully there will be a Spyro sequell soon aswell. Cheers and thank you for expanding my childhood adventures!

    It’s impossible to describe how great it feels to have Crash Bandicoot back on the big screen - it feels like a real return to form from the original games. The game is severely difficult, but that’s part of the fun for me at least. I cannot stress to everyone that this game is worth every penny and more, especially if you love a good challenging platformer.

    La verdad estaba exceptico, no porqué luciera mal, sí no por el historial qué ha tenido nuestro marsupial favorito pero que grata sorpresa me lleve cuando me di cuenta que estaba ante la digna secuela de la trilogia original, un juego digno de elogios, me atrevo a decir que es el mejor juego de Crash Bandicoot hasta la fecha, sin duda una obra maestra del plataformeo. 10-10

Crash Bandicoot 4 is breathtakingly beautiful, features an amazing soundtrack full of references to the original trilogy, offers tons of content, and thrilled me to bits with its brilliant level design.     Crash Bandicoot 4 is a worthy addition to the Crash legacy. It captures the spirit, fun, and challenge of the original games, and adds a lot more that genuinely makes the experience even better rather than simply padding out the gameplay. The game is certainly challenging and the levels could probably use a few more checkpoints, but the number in the game is truer to the spirit of the originals than modern gaming standards. A little perseverance will get you through the game, but it’s going to take a little work if you want to be a Crash completionist. Overall it’s a great platform game that perfectly blends the old and the new into a fun new experience.
