    I played for 1'5 hours and although it's not a bad a game it felt repetitive so I gave up because I've better games to play. The city looks good althoug the mouths in the scenes are awful although you'll get use to it. In my opinion it's a totally skippable game but if you like not stressfull games and you don't mind to do repetitive things you can give it a try otherwise there are plentyI played for 1'5 hours and although it's not a bad a game it felt repetitive so I gave up because I've better games to play. The city looks good althoug the mouths in the scenes are awful although you'll get use to it. In my opinion it's a totally skippable game but if you like not stressfull games and you don't mind to do repetitive things you can give it a try otherwise there are plenty of better games out there.… Expand

    I would use this action adventure as an example that videogames can be art. Also I can see this turned into an awesome animated movie. It is the story of the teenager Ash who lives in the coastal town Denska. Denska has become a desolate place as darkness and decay have taken over. So begins his quest in bringing back the better days by purging the darkness. The game is unique. You draw pictures to safe the day. You have an artbook with motives you can use and will expand it by finding more sheets. On special places you can draw Genies. Those colorful creatures are living in the walls and have special abilities that can help you. Of cause there is opposition as the darkness blocks your path and there is a gang of bullies that will trash you. I like the story and gameplay a lot. Even more when I thought the game will get repetitive it surprised me with a nice twist for both. The art style is amazing and especially the genies are truly magnificent. I almost forgot those were not real a few times. Like I said it is easily adaptable into an animation. The riddles are nice integrated into the system and I want more like that. A quick advice: The motion control did not work that well for me and I switched it to the right stick in the options. Back to the review. The game was refreshing and felt unique. It created emotions and I enjoyed the whole experience. After the conclusion of the story I would applaud the whole team behind it. To be fair I must warn you that I finished the game in maybe 8 hours so it is a bit short and it might not be for everyone. Also you are a bit limited at the start in drawing options. Overall the art style, characters, story and gameplay won me over. I give a 9/10 and recommend it if you want something unique that feels like an animated movie.… Expand

I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions.

    Had this game in my library for a long time before trying it out and then ended up plating it over the weekend. I’m not creative as a person so I initially stayed away since it seemed like an art game. It is a very short game, like 5-8hrs. In that time frame, about 2/3rd of it is puzzle solving with the other 1/3rd is combat. It’s a good-looking game and has a good art direction. This game has a massage about bullying.    … Expand

    I was actually looking forward to this, as it looked a treat and I've really enjoyed similar games like Chicory, Tearaway and Psychonauts 2. So, the good: it's fun enough and pretty enough, I mostly liked playing it.

    Since you can't skip the cutscenes, here's the main core of why it left such a bad taste in my mouth: it's so shallow that it's actually quite loathesome. Opening with a vindictive display of contextless bullying - our perfect, smartass, confidently quipping all-American jock is cruelly victimised by the fat ugly kids for... drawing? This game posts on Twitter about how they're the real minority, and it's really giving "forgotten 80s cartoon that sells a product range" energy. A key Sad Moment is just your character crying about a 2D blob he met briefly an hour ago, and it does some baffling work regarding oil pollution and how it relates to how sad and abused you are. The merging of story and gameplay events is so unconsidered and careless that somehow everyone is shocked at the end that you have a magic paintbrush. Still, for a game so clearly focused at children, it then seems bonkers to have things like exposed electricity pylons be completely safe. Almost as if "it's for kids" is a lazy excuse for not trying very hard.

    I was a bit surprised at how restricted the arty bit actually is, but it makes more and more sense as you play. It's extremely cool that you design genies that come to life, and I liked playing around with it, but you're just adding a few presets to an existing template and they get messy and blobby pretty fast. I often had to delete the entire painting just to have a chance at seeing exactly what detail they wanted me to add, and very quickly stopped customising my Genies at all, as they would all crowd art scenes and render them hard to see even before I'd covered them up with my stickers. Still, Genie interactions were really delightful and although I'm moaning a fair bit about this aspect, I think it works. It could've been glorious, but what we have is successful and quite pleasing.

    It feels like a lot of compromises on a budget, which in fairness probably describes most games. It feels like an idea that underpaid some writer to justify its existence, which again probably describes most games. I just wish it had come to a compromise that wasn't so insipid.    … Expand

    I can't find at least one flaw in this game, everything is so perfect in it: music, visuals, the atmosphere of a half-dead city, the plot, the meditative gameplay. So this creation has fallen into my soul.

    I think Concrete Genie is a great game with an amazing art direction. It is quite a short game (maybe 6 or 7 hours) but it definitely worth it. It's not a game with deep mechanics, leveling system, etc....but it is a nice platforming story game with some interesting puzzles. I think this game could have been even better if they implemented the combat before in the campaign. It is a easyI think Concrete Genie is a great game with an amazing art direction.     I was feeling a bit down personally, games seemed boring to me, luckily I had this on my ps4 since it was free with ps plus months ago. When I saw the trailer back then I was super hyped about painting your own stuff and making it "alive" (well kinda, since you get some patterns and it's not free painting). Decided to give it a try after being tired of the same games over and over again.
    Well, this felt not only a real breath of fresh air, but also a game showing morals and values, something society lacks of right now.
    I really connected with the main protagonist, Ash, a boy with a will to explore, and to restore Denska to its original state where people were still happy and it was a colorful city.
    I couldn't help but cry when I thought Luna was gone forever, and when after all the progress made the bullies destroyed your art. Ash finally having friends and getting recognized what he achieved while keeping on doing what he loves the most is the greatest finale to a short game that ended up being a top 10 in my all time game list. Thanks to Sony and Pixel Opus devs and workers for making this happen. This is the kind of game that changes people.    … Expand

    A short and charming game with a surprising twist in gameplay about halfway through. The animation is very unique and the game is very vibrant. It does, however, have a generic 'bullies vs lonely kid' plot and the change in gameplay may be considered unwelcome by some. The game is about 8 hours long in terms of story, so I'd recommend this if you want a short, but pretty decent experience.

Its a game for kids but you can play it if you are a adult and you want to see a cool story. Its very short so it never makes you feel tired while you playing it.     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. il gioco è molto molto carino, la storia va fluida (tranne per i momenti in cui devi accendere le luci).l'idea di dover disegnare con il movimento del dualshock 4 l'ho trovata un bella cosa anche se abbastanza imprecisa. inoltre a fine gioco quando si devono sconfiggere i geni "cattivi" entra in gioco una nuova forma di gameplay con tasti essenziali.
    una grande pecca è la durata del gioco infatti in 3 ore potete già aver finito la storia e in una giornata potreste platinarlo.

    conclusioni:
    non è un capolavoro, ma per quello che ci si aspetta è un buon gioco    … Expand

Ademas, en lo personal, me hubiera gustado que para resolver los puzzles en vez de pulsar R1 (si mal no recuerdo) para atraer a los genios, estaria bueno poder darles ordenes de forma individual a cada uno, asi como que las pinturas que hagas influyan en el mundo del juego y no se queden tan solo en un retrato 2d. Aun así, es un juego bastante disfrutable, de los mejores que probé en los últimos meses (aunque siendo que hubieron tantas cosas que no me gustaron, tampoco es que sea decir mucho la verdad...).     This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Concrete Genie is an excellent game for all ages. There isn't much of a story but is enough to get by without dragging on a boring plot. The game does a well job in making each character relatable and not wasting time on their back story, it's straight to the point. At first, i thought the bullies were just going to be annoying kids throughout the game, but the creators did a good job showing the players why these bullies are mean and makes players who cannot relate understand why bullies exist. They are calling out for help, it's up to us to find a way to be there for them instead of seeking revenge. It is also interesting of the way the creators made us see genies in a different forms, instead of the genie in a lamp scenario which most people think is where they came from. The collectables are fun to collect without being too overwhelming like some games that overkill with collectables. The city is a cute little place that makes exploration exciting and makes you want to look around every corner to see what you can find. I wasn't a huge fan of the art design choice, but it is different, so kudos for standing out. Overall, Concrete Genie is a masterpiece and especially for kids its worth a try!… Expand

    I expected this to be a 6/10 before I started playing and it far exceeded my expectations. The gameplay, artwork (including the joy of being able to create my own and see it displayed all over), story, voice acting, style, and everything else was a blast to be a part of. The only things I didn't care for are the ability to skip cutscenes (even though I enjoyed them, I realize not everyoneI expected this to be a 6/10 before I started playing and it far exceeded my expectations. The gameplay, artwork (including the joy of being able to create my own and see it displayed all over), story, voice acting, style, and everything else was a blast to be a part of. The only things I didn't care for are the ability to skip cutscenes (even though I enjoyed them, I realize not everyone will) and implementation of motion control (thankfully can be switched to the right stick), as well as the way painting feels while trying to walk around - the forced camera angles can tend to be quite cumbersome. I played this alongside my girlfriend and she had just as much fun.… Expand

    This is a simple and sweet little indie-like platformer with hack and slash elements. It reminded me of Infamous First Light meets Splatoon. It's creative and inventive and I had a blast getting lost in this world. Great game for kids and adults alike. It's different enough to be a breath of fresh air, but familiar enough for players of every kind to jump into.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Concrete Genie's average score of 8,2 is the perfect description for this game.

    As an indie game, it delivers far more than what it is expected to. With this, I am talking about the ratio between the art, the length and the gameplay itself.

    On one hand, the art is simple yet charming and it's distinct enough to guide you during gameplay without the need to overrely on UI elements that keep your view away from the greatly designed port you're trying to bring back to life. Then, the length of the game is short enough to be enjoying without overstaying its welcome but with enough care to have a simple and clear story that shines by its conciseness and positivity. Gameplay, if anything, is the lesser of the three elements, but that's not to say it's deficient.

    Some criticism may point towards the art or the artistic range you have is limited or lacking compared to other games. However, I don't see a point in comparing this game to something beyond the games of "Draw you life" from the Nintendo DS era. The controls are simple; the creations you have stick, both the "drawings" and the genies that you create, which gives you a feeling that what you're doing matters, to an extent; and the gameplay is a mix or platform and drawing without any difficulty attached.
    At the end portion of the game, you're thrown into a section with combat that, if you've been savoring previous three fourths of relaxing gameplay, feels a bit out of touch, but I suppose this was a way to give the story a needed catharsis. Personally, I thought this was poorly thought out and I am of the opinion that the conflict could have been resolved more organically than "There are monsters now, go fight and everything will be alright". However, given the length of the game, I understand it, but it keeps Concrete Genie from being something unique and throws it into a weird limbo between an action platformer and an art game, which is not a combination that I think works too well. Sure, here is put together decently, but there is a clear distinction between the combat and non-combat parts that is a bit confusing.

    Nevertheless, Concrete Genie is an actually good game for its length marketed to all ages that has a likable protagonist, a sweet story and an engaging gameplay that, though strange, works.    … Expand

    Never played a game like this. It is very artistic, and pleasing to the eyes, and it is about exploring and painting. It is definitely not for everybody, but it is surely a unique experience.

    O game é bom pela proposta. Tem uma história clichê mas que serve bem para crianças e jóvens. A game play é legal, vc consegue fazer muitas pinturas pela cidade. A platina parece fácil, o jogo da muitos trofeus sem esforço. Porém o game se torna repetitivo em alguns momento. Não chega ser um problema grande pois o game é super curto, porém não vale o preço que é vendido fora de promoção,O game é bom pela proposta.     Just played Concrete Genie. It is Amazing. I really enjoyed the game and the story. I'm going to go back and play it on VR now. This is a really different game from most and well worth the time. Great Game!

It’s start was a liiitle weak, especially with the poorly done coloring mechanics from that bit in the sketchbook, the game soon win me over with its near perfect pacing, charming painting mechanics, and concise length. The complete gameplay shift at the halfway point (or 3/4 point if you spent way too much time painting extra **** like me) was jarring for sure, but reflected the severity of the stakes in the story and didn’t take long to get used to at all, especially with it’s mechanical simplicity. I definitely enjoyed joking to myself about superpaint being Ash’s devil trigger. The core painting element was phenomenal and I feel the true reward for completion was the sweeping shot from the end of the game that shows all your artwork with the beautiful score underneath, rewarding player creativity. The game oozes charm like I ooze gas and for free dollars and zero cents right now on PS plus it’s absolutely worth the play.… Expand

    The game has a nice variety of paintings and each wall is like a canvas that you can make customized paintings. You can even summon Genes that can help you on your adventure. These genes are also customizable in many ways you can give them different ears, and even tails. The storytelling is a little average but I enjoyed the connections with the genies and the freedom to paint whatever I want. This game also has a really nice photo mode as well to take great pictures of your artwork. I also like the parcore. It's very fun climbing around from rooftop to rooftop almost like an Assassins creed game.

    There are 6 chapters in the game and each is around an hour depending on if you're grabbing collectables or not. But around the 5th chapter they introduce combat which kinda threw me off because for the first 5 hours there was no combat at all and they finally introduce it towards the end of the game. I also didn't like how you couldn't place special markers on the mini map so I found myself opening and closing the map quite often to see if i'm going to the specific area that I was wanting to go. Other than that it's a pretty bare game and only had very few characters which left the city of Denska very deserted and empty. I just wish there were more people around to make the world feel a little more believable.

    Overall concrete Genie is a fun game if you like the painting aspect and this game could very well have been a short Pixar story because of the art style and pretty views from rooftops. So overall the game gets an 8 out of 10.    … Expand

    Youre in a hub area and your job is to just paint on the walls to light up all of the bulbs in a zone, and by doing so you will clear up this good to interact with an item that will unlock the next zone, and youll se the help of the concrete genies to open gates or help you access the next area, so youll need to paint and clear paths for them… and this time of gameplay can be a bit head scratching as concrete genie isn’t really linear, youre in a mini open map and you just figure out what you have to do as the game gives you little hints, which admittedly did have my running round in circles scratching my head a couple times… a better indication of what to do next would have been appreciated here overall…
    The hok of this game though for me, is running around these little zones and finding all of the mages for pictures I can paint on the wall, finding these collectables helps you clear other optional collectables and secrets, and then the final 3rd of the game its straight up kingdom hearts as youre taking on the darkness with your brush…
    Concrete genie is a really beautiful game at times, most of the time its pretty dull and mindless, and dealing with the bullies while youre just tryna paint is a nussaince, but obviously that’s the point, really putting you into ashes shoes… but concrete genie is something really unique, touching at times, and a game I highly recommend you give a chance to, at least through its first area

It is a shame that the story does not really shine here but… for some younger gamers it might be cool.

    A charming little gem that is probably one of the most underrated games of this generation. A visual achievement like only Vanillaware and a few other companies were able to achieve. Great gameplay, gorgeous and charismatic genies and a somewhat simple, but fulfilling story. A must for any player that wants some platforming fun with an unique art style

    A very nice game with a warm atmosphere. In the very last part of the game (I won't spoil anything about it), suddenly the mood changes quite a bit and make it "less warm". But that is the only downside for me: for the rest I love it.

    Beautiful and tight story, Amazing Claymation esque graphics really make seem more tangible than other similar games. Not a perfect game but as close as your going to get with true artistic vision and it is Seriously Well Priced!!

    This is a descent game, with a nice story and colourful graphics. Sony gets 2 from me because of the bug in the middle of the game that makes it impossible to continue playing. The developers do not even have a web site and there's no way to report a bug, so I had to replay 50% of the game.

    Imaginative and feel-good, Concrete Genie is simply delightful. It feels like a celebration of how art and colour can help us climb out of the bleak pits that we all occasionally find ourselves in. The game is also just the right length so it avoids becoming repetitive, but to tell the truth I would've been happy to continue playing for a little more as it just put a smile on the face.

    Now here comes my rant. This game has a similar blueprint to a game I loved which was tearaway. Why then can't we draw what we wanted like we could with tearaway? Why are we limited to set pieces of art we find, when we are not even sure how they would integrate with other pieces. That is a big con and took away my fun from painting on the walls. As a big fan of tearaway I am very disappointed with this game. Also, another game flaw is that you can literally spam the same set art piece over all the walls and complete the game. That is not called gamer option, this is called a game design flaw. The combat section was the right call (even though it was painfully bad), but this game was so limited by it's core game design, busting out a bat to smash genies over the head would be heinous. This game was short, but if I cant wait for this game to end only about 5 hours in, that's a problem.
    To end, who is this game for? If you want a family game. Hard to reccomend to anyone else honestly, even if its priced right. It's essentially an interactive game for kids published by nickelodeon.    … Expand

    After purchasing the game just a few days ago, I beat it and I couldn’t be any happier to express my thoughts in full with you.

    Without spoiling too much, I am amazed and enormously pleased with how fleshed out the story was. You play as Ash, a young boy who enjoys painting and after being harassed by the typical bully group, they disperse his drawings throughout the lakeside community    After purchasing the game just a few days ago, I beat it and I couldn’t be any happier to express my thoughts in full with you.

    Without spoiling too much, I am amazed and enormously pleased with how fleshed out the story was. You play as Ash, a young boy who enjoys painting and after being harassed by the typical bully group, they disperse his drawings throughout the lakeside community of Denska, a local fishing area which has been abandoned due to the results of oil spills and competitive business, ruining the area. Ash has this desire to change the way people view Denska – which has since been overrun by this dark oily, ossified matter and of course teenaged delinquency that have trashed the village, and the goal is to spread light throughout the map basically through magic. This experience is incredibly rich and majestic, with vibrant colors that excite me with nothing ordinary of complete wonder. There’s a lot more hidden that really surprised me once I hit the 2nd to 3rd act of the story which brought out some intense and emotional feelings.

    Onto gameplay which I’m sure is one of the more important aspects to any game. I thought that it was refreshing and fun, quite honestly. There’s all sorts of tasks you can complete, from collectibles to wall painting objectives to finding different genie creatures that’ll help you take on different tasks. I suppose the more shocking moment of my entire experience was finding out that this game had platforming elements and a lot of it, and to my surprise, yet again; the platforming was very solid. I ran into hardly any technical issues jumping from one climbable asset to the next, which is a plus. Most Triple A Games aren’t able to compare to the level of quality demonstrated throughout this game and that’s saying something. To put it simply, the gameplay was fluid and felt like that from start to finish, with occasional, but less obvious frame dips, when it came to more intense parts of the game. As a whole, the gameplay was very fun and very rewarding.

    One thing many people tend to overlook in a game is the score, or the musical tunes that are present in it. I’m not like most people, though and I take into account everything there is that would be apart of a game, because it’s something that makes my experience more enjoyable. If I’m being truthful here, Concrete Genie has one of the best PlayStation Exclusive Tracks I have listened to in a long time, but my issue is that it isn’t a consistent one. You see, the musical underscore is there. When you print a design of an apple, or a tree, or a campfire on a wall, a tune will play, subtly, maybe even several times; which reinforces how beautiful the game is. Sadly, however, the score isn’t consistent as opposed to games that I’m used to, which have iconic main themes that always sticks with you no matter what. Concrete Genie’s score, on the other hand, is more of different tune mashups that work well collectively, which isn’t a compliant by any means as it is just something I would’ve preferred in the game. Still, though, I adored the track. It was artful.

    To conclude, Concrete Genie was a creatively unique, refreshing and crafty experience that impressed me every step of the way. I loved it, and I think you would too – which is why I’m giving it a 10 out of 10.    … Expand

    Fantastic game. The light visual effects remind me of inFamous Second Son. Strongly recommend the game to anyone

    Happy little trees! I could easily spend hours in free paint making gorgeous landscapes that relax me. The sound effects, the 3d pop of the art from the walls. Its a perfect game for chilling after a long day.

He wanders the streets of his old home, Denska, an abandoned town now only visited by misbehaving kids who bully him. Your goal in the game is to paint across all the walls in Denska which in turnConcrete Genie is a really beautifully crafted game with an amazing art style and soundtrack, as well as a simple yet touching story. You play as Ash, a young boy who loves to draw and paint. He wanders the streets of his old home, Denska, an abandoned town now only visited by misbehaving kids who bully him. You can also paint genies which come to life and help you along your journey throughout the game. The painting mechanic can get a bit repetitive but the game is short enough that it doesn't become too much of a bother. It really is a unique experience not like many other games.     In the wake of so called AAA tripe being released (looking at you, Ubisoft). Concrete Genie is a charming and beautiful game unlike anything I have played previously.

    Yes it may be short but I enjoyed every minute I spent with the game and would recommend it to anybody and everybody.

    Real contrasting, bright neon in gloomy scenery. Heard it was inspired by JSRF. Can totally see why with traversal platforming elements and decorating the levels with a palette of easy to use thematic tools. Easy to make a mural on basically any wall. Reminds me of the movie Coraline, but only a little.

    The whole game offers up an innocent thrill with the kind of naive charm you get from a well-crafted kids movie, like The Goonies. The characters all have a delightful appeal, the world of Denska is enchanting, and the story is well delivered. It is on the short side, and doesn't feel like a challenge even when the story suggests you're in a difficult moment, but it's definitely worth replaying again and again. In short, Concrete Genie is a beautiful game all about emotions and doing what's right, and it's truly very special.
