    Short version :
    I loved the first one(on PS3). I played it a LOT.
    The 2nd one, on PS4, uses the same recipe. Same units, same techs, same defense towers. But new maps. And some gameplay and graphic tweaks here and there. In this case, that is exactly how it should be ! This is perfect. Long version : It's a tower defense combined with RTS with very little other games to compare    Short version :

    In this case, that is exactly how it should be ! This is perfect.

    Long version :
    It's a tower defense combined with RTS with very little other games to compare it to. You control a ship that you use to gather money and build defense towers. Build locations are not fixed so you need to "create a patern" to guide the ennemy's units. Your ship can be destroyed by the ennemy's Anti-Air defense (only minimal consequences. You loose some passive boosts and respawn quickly. Just enough to make you "try to not crash"...) You also need to build "unit generators" to generate an army and attack the ennemy. It's original and works awesomely well. This is best played in Co-op (Couch co-op!). But there is also online co-op and PvP. The whole campaign can be played @ 3 player coop.

    There's a constant progression as you play through the campaign. Every few missions, a new technology is revealed. You usually have to face that new technology in the hand of the AI ennemy. Then you unlock it and you try it in the next mission. And so on for all techs. And you get new ones all the way through the campaign.

    There's 4 levels of difficulty, going from "walk in the park" to "VERY hard"... specially if you aim at "perfect matches" (5 stars requires to not loose a single HP on your base). Specially since patch 1.01. ( I actually exchanged a few emails with the developer himself on the subject of difficulty and some fixes were applied in patch 1.01 according to our conversation ! )

    It begins smooth (in the first mission, you have access to 1 offensive unit type and 2 types of defensive towers, and you play on a very small map. As you progress through the campaign, you get more and more technologies to play with, with bigger and bigger maps, with harder, more aggressive AI. You eventually need to combine different offense and defense strategies, including forcing the ennemy units to "turn around" in your defense system (open a path and close another one to force the ennemies to turn around and walk through your defense a second time). You can even destroy ennemy's tower defense (build a stronger tower near theirs... and repair yours untill theirs is destroyed...) to open new paths for your own army...

    Graphics are basic/simple, but pretty. Everything runs smoothly. This game is developped by a very small indie dev team(Pelfast). They clearly used their ressources at their fullest and built something amazing. They clearly built this with a lot of love ! A hidden gem !

    Comet Crash 2: The Kronkoid Wars is a solid title even if it differs very little from the original. The blending of tower defense and RTS gameplay works fine, especially since the stages are confined to one screen, and the game's length is perfect if you want to spend a few lazy afternoons with it. The presentation feels a bit muted, but it works well enough so you can discern which units are yours. However, those seeking multiplayer are better served with nearby friends, as online play is all but dead now. If you think of Comet Crash 2 as more of a single-player game, then you can check out this title.

    Comet Crash 2: The Kronkoid Wars offers a unique blend of RTS and tower defence which is fun to play. The single player campaign offers a nice distraction and plays well enough, but it is with the multiplayer that things really brighten up, although you may struggle to find a game online.

    Comet Crash 2 is a uniquely well designed game. It stirs just enough resource gathering and unit management to add depth without taking anything away from the tower defense, creating a gameplay with two parts that complement each other strongly. It’s an easy recommendation to fans of either genre.
