I find it quite shocking how few reviews there are for this fantastic game. I think it’s the somewhat poor reviews while it was in early access on Steam have badly affected its visibility on the internet. Despite being launched worldwide at midnight on 1st November and, with quite a few of the PS4 servers full or half full, the game has not had any coverage anywhere. It’s a real shame as it is a wonderful game. It’s a wizarding MMO. If you have ever wanted to fly on a broomstick then this is the game for you. There are even outfits in either red or blue to unlock which allows for Quidditch like battles. The magic system is extensive depending on what essences you use with what weapon with further augmentation allowed by adding in flowers and other items to add extra range or damage etc etc.
Virtually all mid to giant sized creatures can be ridden after you craft a leather saddle. You will have to get their health down first then use the Pacify spell. I have seen lots of videos on YouTube of players circling large boulders whilst trying to pacify large black fire breathing dragons. They look to be particularly tricky to obtain. But think of it - taking to the skies in your own fire breather? Wow.
Oh, and there is the building element. Starting with wood you can work your way up to marble. Turrets with spiral staircases- tick. Battlements- tick. There are pieces in all shapes and sizes to unlock. There are some massive buildings appearing on my European server Grimstone.
Talking of servers there are many different variations from plain vanilla to 5x experience, 5x gathering, fast ones. Then are even some with free flying (normally it’s your depleting mana supply that keeps you aloft) and ones that delete after 60 or 90 days.
You can play solo or form houses with other players the choice is yours.
There are some issues on the PS4 version. The in-game chat is appalling. Scratchy barely audio Is the order of the day. You are best setting up chat on a Discord channel to best communicate with your house. The cursor is also a little wayward. You don’t get the spot on accuracy of a mouse like they have on the PC version. Instead one of the controller sticks is used to manoeuvre it. It’s often tricky to get it in the right spot. However over time you get better at it. On the map screen however the cursor slides all over the place. It’s like moving it on an icy surface. However I have been told that a fix is in the works for the first PS4 update. Aim-assist is coming. Hurrah!
You might also want to rebind the swap weapons key. It’s currently mapped to square which is also the key used for picking up items. So if the cursor is not on a herb, or a rock to pick it up then pressing it will swap your weapons. Invariably when you are suddenly attacked by the wildlife you may not have your most powerful spells to hand. Again, after playing for the past six days I am now used to it.
It’s also a shame that all the platforms are on separate servers, PC, Xbox and PS4. Throwing everybody together would I think in the long run extend the games lifespan.
As for me, currently my blue wizard is at level 34. I am growing some Frostwood saplings. I need to unlock a mana generator to power my sprinklers. Once I have harvested the Frostwood it will go towards my recipe for a far faster broomstick. Currently I gently glide over the treetops and mountains using up a lot of mana in the process. I want to zoom. Oh and the next level ring needs unlocking to give me faster mana regeneration.
Citadel: Forged with Fire may not be a triple A title but it’s a solid 2A+. I am loving the hours I am piling into the land of Ignus. One day, maybe next week I will capture my very own dragon? Sweet.… Expand
