Waiting for a long time to see Car Mechanic Simulator released for PS4 and it's as awesome as it is on PC. Can't wait for dlc.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don’t get me wrong, I like the game but it has some aspects that I don’t like. For instance; when you buy a car from a barn or auction, you’re stuck with engine it came with. Sure, you can replace all the components, but it’s still the same motor! If the engine had a supercharger and no hood, you can’t install a new hood!
Maybe I’m mistaken, but I can’t see a way around this!

Firstly this is a brilliant game. For any car owners out there this is a must. And it’s a game that educates as well. Really insightful all the different parts of the car and how they are put together and being able to almost take apart and rebuild a car from scratch. It’s so realistic as well. Secondly and this is why it’s scored 8 and not 10, is the bugs and problems I’ve encountered.Firstly this is a brilliant game. For any car owners out there this is a must. Basically you get parts that are required for your car, you come to reattach them and it says there is nothing there. I’ve emailed them to say it needs a new update but being a game that only a handful of people will play, it probably won’t be looked at for a few weeks or months. Cos they think it won’t do well. It’s brilliant and well worth a look but wait a while until any updates come. Expand

Not a bad game at all but it controls better on the pc. Loading times are a bit long but very fun game to play.

Game crashes a lot, has all these options to swap engines but those parts aren’t available, or parts in the tablet that are. Or useable. I enjoyed it for a few days and got bored because of the lack of material. Also, the tutorial sucks and controls are meh.

Takes some getting used to, but thankfully someone has put out some walkthrough guides. This gets a rating based on what the product is designed/promised to deliver.

Great game. Really loose track of time. I'm a car nut so some of the stuff is a little unrealistic but it is really enjoyable. I wish there was a little more customization as far as body and paint along with aftermarket. Great game can't wait for dlc.

It would be a higher rating but some of the repair jobs are questionable...example: car has just under 10,000 KMs on it and I have to tear apart the entire engine just to fix the engine block, right engine head, camshaft caps, camshafts, 4 spark plugs and 3 ignition coils....

I found Car Mechanic Simulator surprising enjoyable and addictive; at least until the grind to get from around level 18 to the next new thing at level 30 started. I haven't gotten there and may never.

And, by the way, @rhsandiego is incorrect in their review; most cars let you change to a different engine type by pulling out the engine with the engine crane then building a different

And, by the way, @rhsandiego is incorrect in their review; most cars let you change to a different engine type by pulling out the engine with the engine crane then building a different (but compatible) one. The car status screens shows what engines the car will accept.

My real point to writing here is to warn anybody from making the same mistake I just did by buying Tank Mechanic Simulator. Don't. [I'd write a 0/10 review for it but metacritic only has a listing for the PC version.] It's not by the same company (just the same distributor) and it's UI is complete and utter crap, nothing at all like Car Mechanic (nor every other game with a sane console UI for that matter; they insist on pretending the left stick is a mouse, including making you use your left thumb to move a pointer onto a tiny scroll bar, hold ❌ and move left up/down which when the list is showing ~6 of 40+ items scrolls way to fast, and the same screens that make you do this don't use the normal scroll controls of right stick or DPad for anything whatsoever). So stick with the older and far better Car Mechanic Simulator.

Its a fun game. Its actually taught me a lot about how to maintain my car. Much cheaper than a mechanic. My only gripe is the tutorial was not great. As such I had to Google a lot of how to do certain things. But once you find the flow it works well.

Ultimately, Car Mechanic Simulator demands a lot of patience. Patience to learn how to play it, patience to work with its clumsy menus and controls, and patience to eke your way through its deep, glacial progression systems. Tolerate this and it has a rewarding and essentially peerless gameplay loop to offer car fanatics – and maybe the odd apprentice, too.

A PC-indie success arrives on consoles with a porting faithful to the original, both in its Pros and Cons.
