Game is trash. Campaign is around 5 hours and is a fairly standard corridor shooter with nothing memorable that comes to mind in regards to the storyline or characters. It basically plays like an fps from 2003 but with fancier graphics.

Multiplayer is where the ineptitude of Activation and Sledgehammer really shines through though. MP is a bug filled, lagging mess full of hit-markers that don't kill your enemies due to Activision's refusal to implement dedicated servers and one of the most counter intuitive menu systems of all time. The perk system in this game is pretty much non-existent and there are only 9 maps available which are all uninspired 3 route camper fests and a chore to play.

The only reason anyone even likes this game is because the previous three titles in this franchise set the bar so astronomical low that something as asinine as boots on the ground game play seems refreshing to the fanboys who waste their money on this game year after year.

Simply put, multiplayer this time around feels the most broken in terms of lag compensation the series has ever had. If I play at 2 or 3 in the morning(EST) I manage high KDR. If I play during prime time, it's pretty much me going 3-20 every match. Gun fights are unwinnable. Half the time I'm shooting at someone the hits aren't registering and if they do, I still will likely be killed first(this is even when I'm crouching around a corner proned and waiting for someone to run into my sights). I wrote this review after attempting to play with a shotgun. I ran around a corner, fired into someone's head and didn't receive a hit marker before I was killed. A respawn later, I sprinted and rounded into someone who ran around a corner at the same time as myself, but somehow fired 4 shots before I could hit my trigger once. This is so bad because it makes the entire sub machine gun/shot gun classes unplayable for those with strong connections. I *have* to use long range assault rifles and even then, I *have* to be viewing down scope before someone is in sight to stand a chance. Ever wanted to know what it feels like to consistently prone down in a corner half covered by a wall waiting for someone to round a corner(not because you're a camper, but because you *have* to camp) and then when they do, they STILL manage to zoom down their scope at you and fire 3 shots before you get to fire one, and then in the replay that half second you saw them before being shot was actually a full 1-2 seconds? Then play this. Expand

Oh, but the critics love it, don't they? Well, they would, given that most of them reviewed it at a special swanky event held by Activision, closely supervised for their impressions whilst having their every need catered for. "Gaming journalism" indeed; integrity personified. Amazing how that little tidbit of trivia isn't widely publicised eh? Pfft...

I am convinced people buy this out of habit at this point. I certainly don't buy it, but I think everyone has that one friend who still does because the series made him happy when he was a teenager or something and it's become a drug to them. They tolerate any level of pure crap the series throws at them because they scored that perfect kill 10 years ago and it made them smile.

Good for them. For the rest of us who can't casually discard our brain, CoD:WWII is a complete waste of time and epitomises every single last thing wrong with this ridiculous industry.

My main problem with this supposed next generation of maps is that they are no different than last gen, where is the dynamic settings? why cant there be a physical changes to the map randomly i.e. a battle on a sinking battleship or a war around you with buildings exploding? its just lazy and derriviative but compared to what Activision charges for season pass / map packs its just insulting!

Loot crates are obviously there, disgusting to have them opening on normandy batlefield in your "social area" and visable to all, there really isnt an "enough money earned here" is there!

Overall I feel more down on the franchise now than ever before, it needs to go away and have a high level rethink about COD's future as come next year, COD will not be a pre order or even a day one purchase for me!

I love it. Characters are great, the story is compelling and both audio and visuals are of the best quality I have ever seen in CoD. I can see myself playing it again and again alongside the first games. Props on this one. And man, I wish I could buy a singleplayer only for a third of a price because the rest of this game...

Zombies have zombies. Enough said. I vomit with zombies. Movies, TV, games, zombies are everywhere. They are boring. They were boring years ago. Just stop making zombie games and movies already! They've been done to death... Pun intended.

Multiplayer is weird. You have that new hub section where a bunch of people run around, open boxes with random **** and do nothing but look for a menu to see the multiplayer modes. It's confusing at first but it is a good idea... but seeing loot boxes being open, seeing other people getting some random junk made me realize that the point of this hub is to gloat about your loot. Nothing social or interesting takes place here, just consumerism at its finest! The gameplay itself is like CoD of old. No recoil, no strategy, no thinking. Maps are built with sniper nests and choke points from grounds up, so... every game looks exactly the same. It gets boring after a while and because of how weapons handle you feel like the game was programmed as your first shooter - when you're done go play something better (most games are better).

To sum this up. Singleplayer campaign is an easy 9/10, multiplayer is for me 3/10 (7/10 for CoD players) and zombies is about -1000/10. It's a shame you can't buy just the singleplayer, I'd pay for that.

    - The campaign is too short, although decent, forgettable.
    - Game modes are banal (big surprise), done much better in alternative games of the same genre
    - Zombies are still fairly entertaining to play with friends, but the game mode is quite like the nature of a zombie – lifeless, often pedestrian, and mostly uninspired.

This time around, I’d say COD is lower than mediocre. I absolutely encourage waiting for a price drop (unless you absolutely adore COD multiplayer/zombies).

Gameplay wise, it's your usual COD minus wall running, boost jumping which isn't a bad thing when the game actually works, yes, that's right the game runs like total crap!
The game suffers from so many wtf moments of how did I die, why does my gun seem like its doing less damage than his and this isn't just me saying this I've seen big Youtuber/Twitch players say the exact same thing!
The lack of proper servers and the problematic lag compensator really screw this game up couple all of that with the fact the game matches people from across the world to play in lobbies, seriously how is that even happening!!

Authenticity next, do they deliver? HELL NO they don't! Guns have terrible fake animations, it's just incredibly lazy, for an example when you shoot one bullet from the KAR98k and you go to reload instead of putting a single bullet in the character puts an entire stripper clip into the gun and they even put an entire stripper clip into the gun when you only have 1 bullet left in reserve, it's just absolutely laughable!
Guns have no recoil they all shoot like damn lasers, snipers are just a one-hit kill from any range which just makes them the total unskilled weapon of many peoples choice.

    Then zombies... oh my god!!
Making something easier isn't making it better, the zombies are basically invisible, yes they run faster, but it's so damn easy to avoid them you can run through them essentially and the map complexity is nil, void, there is no complexity or teamwork required so props to Sledgehammer on that *slow clap*...

Finally, the story, it's a good war experience it displays some epic moments, nice change up of gameplay requiring health packs instead of regenerating health, but the story is far too short and lacks the same storytelling level that Treyarch brought to such a high standard.

Overall, It's maybe not as low as I scored it, but the game is such a huge let down that I had to score it this way, so much for a short and sweet review.

But the real let down for me was the multiplayer, as an old school CoD fan who spent so much time on the likes of Modern Warfare 1 & 2, and black ops 1 I was excited for this back to the roots Call of Duty, but unfortunately my experience couldn’t be further from my nostalgic memories. To begin it didn’t work for a few days, just stuck at a loading screen, then when it did work my ping was so bad, I had no chance – this is despite being on a 250mbps connection. The maps are too small, and it just loads the same ones over and over again. The whole lobby thing I don’t get either – Just need a menu, and find match… Such a shame, I was overly looking forward to this game, and personally for me, they missed the target. But credit where credit is due, at least they have changed direction from the awful double jumping futuristic rubbish that the last few instalments followed. Expand

Call of Duty WWII is a solid game, though it has MANY flaws. But before we get to the heart and soul of the game, the multiplayer, lets talk about the campaign.

    THE CAMPAIGN:
It's pretty good, one of the better in the series, and the first one I've actually played all the way through since BO2. This campaign is a lot of the same stuff, but it feels more engaging because of the WW2 setting, and shooting Nazis with iconic WW2 guns was pretty cool. The characters were okay, they were a bit flat, but at least there was something here. They felt like flat characters, but they were still characters, which is more than I can say about some of the other games. Overall, it was a Call of Duty campaign, and if you enjoyed the other game's campaigns, you'll enjoy this one. If you're not a fan, I would still recommend trying it, as it makes some improvements I really like, like being able to request ammo, and meds from squad mates. It was pretty good for a CoD campaign, but nothing amazing.

    THE MULTIPLAYER:
    Oh, where do I start.
First off, the good: The gameplay is fun, and it does feel more like the older Call of Dutys without the jetpacks and all that crap. It's pretty fast paced, but I found the gunplay pretty satisfying and the overall gameplay just pretty fun. Also, in this game they introduced a new mode, War, and put simply, its a blast. It's basically Battlefield's rush but in Call of Duty. You have to make it through a few objectives while the other team tries to stop you. I really like it, and hope to see it return in future titles. Yeah, so gameplay is pretty good.
And now, the bad: This game had the WORST launch in all of CoD history. The first 2-3 days I couldn't even get into a multiplayer. It finally started working for me, but it's still a bit shaky, sometimes lagging, or taking longer than it should to find a match. Other people have been getting it worse than me, and apparently can't get into a match even now. This is unacceptable for a $60 AAA game. Also, Headquarters is an epic fail. Currently, it is impossible to get into headquarters with another player, which is the whole point. Your stuck wandering around by yourself. Some achievements even require you to do things with other players, which is hard to do WHEN THERE'S NO OTHER GODDAMN PLAYERS!!!! I also just hate the idea in general, I just wanna get into a game and shoot some dudes while blasting classic rock in the background (Please tell me I'm not the only one who does that). But I don't give a s*** about "Social Score" and doing stuff in the headquarters. Why not just put all that stuff in menus? Anyways, now that I've covered some launch issues, lets cover things about the game's fundamental mechanics. Divisions is a stupid system. When they said they were "going back to their roots" I didn't think they meant they were legit going back and removing some of the great innovative features of the recent CoDs. This system was a complete step back from the pick-10 system. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Sledgehammer said this one would feature more customization than ever before, which is just a flat out lie. In fact, it''s the opposite of the truth. There's less customization options for your classes in this one.
This game is also lacking some iconic WW2 weapons. For example. the Sten, it was promised before the game launched, but it's nowhere to be seen. The Mosin Nagant, perhaps the most iconic sniper of the war, is completely absent from the game. We're also missing the Gewehr 43. This game doesn't feature a revolver of any kind either, which is most perplexing of all. Revolvers are such an iconic part of any war, I don't see why they wouldn't bother to include one in the multiplayer. Especially because there's one featured briefly in the campaign. They programmed the model and all the animations but didn't put it in the multiplayer?
And finally, black female Nazis. Just, why. NOBODY would have complained if women weren't in the game. It's almost disrespectful to all the men who fought and died in the war. Even more stupid, is that you couldn't play as a female soldier in Infinite Warfare, a game taking place a few hundred years in the future, in freaking space for crying out loud. Nope, no females in that but WW2, yup, put women in it. Wtf?
    And finally,

    THE ZOMBIES:
I'm not a huge zombies fan but this one's okay.

    THE VERDICT:
CoD WWII is a good change of pace, and a solid Call of Duty experience, but is plagued with launch issues and broken gameplay mechanics. If you're a huge Call of Duty fan, and was looking forward to this one, go ahead and buy it. If you're not really into Call of Duty and are on the fence, I might be a bit hesitant to spend $60 on it. 6/10. Solid WWII shooter, and a needed change of pace for Call of Duty.
Edit: 5 months in and I'm done. Boring gameplay, terrible maps, I only have 30 characters left, but no replay value basically.

The multiplayer seems to be different for those who are used to jetpacks yatta yatta. We are heading back to WW2 and it feels nice for a change. I topped the leadboard on my first match with flame shotgun bullets. It was satisfying for sure. Unfortunately this game is not amazing and lacks a lot of graphical improvements and the optimization is just crap. I played on a 144hz monitor 2460 or 2K screen, with a 1080 graphics card and it didn't look all that great. The multiplayer is ok at best, but moving over to zombies, is just downright cringe worthy. The zombies look amazing art wise and their voices uncomfortable feeling which is great, but it just isn't as scary as we had hoped for the series. It has jump scares, but that is it. As a player to the franchise since COD4 and playing pretty much every COD since, I have absolute confidence in saying that this game is hot garbage and if this is the direction and attitude it has chosen, then I am truly done with this series for good. I will breakdown the campaign, multiplayer and zombies and give my thoughts on them:

Campaign - This is easily one of the worst COD campaigns and maybe even worse campaigns as a whole to a game I have ever played. Maybe this is because I'm a history major and researching WW2 as a teen but this genuine trash. The narrative struggles to be either a Band of Brothers style or a over the top action film you'd see from Michael Bay, with explosions and scenes of "loud explosion following ears ringing and dude pulling you on your feet" scattered in too many times. The characters are mostly cardboard cutouts that have no real personality, depth or weight to the situation and their abilities you use in combat are more frustrating and gimmicky than satisfying. The mission variety is typical COD design: boring shooting galleries of killing scores of people with little to no reaction, QTEs and gimmicky additions like tank and plane escorts that don't bring out the full potential it should. The authenticity of WW2 is pretty much trashed; it takes place in 1944-1945, which is invalidating most of the war (in which the first three CODs and World at War did correctly), the Allied forces are largely set aside for the American v.s. Nazis clash and more as gimmicky tokenism of cultures that disrespect their service (despite the opening clearly stating over 50 countries fought and left 65 million dead), characters don't act realistic to the situation, hitmarkers, retreading the same exact structure as other CODs before it. The climax and ending was forced and tonally out of place. It's trash and deserves no love and only scorn. I don't care that people only buy it for the multiplayer; if you put something in your game you want those players to play that in their game. Case closed. 3/10

Multiplayer- Standard COD multiplayer with a WW2 skin. It wasn't like COD 2 or 3 had great multiplayers anyways, it was COD 4 that put COD on the map in the first place. The game modes are still the same, the division system is pointless as you can pick any gun you want anyways, war mode is weak on operations, the inclusion of PC friendly race and gender options instantly destroys any authenticity this game claims to have, a **** hub world copy and paste from Destiny, loot boxes that fall from the sky and promote gambling and skinner box mentality that is abhorrent and should be scorned deeply. I suppose if you play with friends there can be some fun to be had and it feels more grounded compared to the last entries, but it doesn't do anything new that is concerning and by my fifth match I was already bored and wanted to play something else. Also add connectivity issues at launch and you got a fine example of a rushed product. 4/10

Zombies- Usually my favorite mode COD ever has and in some ways is the best to date. I like some of the changes made to the design of the game, but I unfortunately couldn't help to feel that it is too easy (as a vet of zombies since 2008). The characters aren't interesting and boring; their constant breathing and gasping becomes grating and annoying after awhile. The zombies themselves lose their dark charm quickly and their voicework makes them goofier than what should be (since I thought this was going to be a far more edgier zombies). Loot boxes in this mode is pointless and extremely ****. With it being easy and being able to get to high rounds with little challenge, I honestly felt bored and wall guns are just powerful as mystery box guns, completely making it pointless to use. The most disappointing part is each past zombies game (WAW and the Black Op series) had ideas that never got here despite being worth the inclusion. The human like models of WAW, the extra maps from BO1, the passive perks you get and the bank system in BO2 and gumballs in BO3 all could have been in this game, but isnt. The single map at launch is insulting and even with friends it can only last so long before you get bored. Decent overall. 6/10

The game will have microtransactions, has a season pass and generally feels like 'another Call of Duty', no matter if it returns to its roots or not. I am sick and tired of this series, the greed behind it and the stupid masses (myself included) who buy these games anymore and pass it off as dudebro topics. I gave COD a chance and after a decade, it's time to throw in the towel for any hope for the series. COD definitely has found its roots, but to grow a big nasty parasite of a plant instead of the hopeful tree of originality and charm. 4/10 overall. DO NOT BUY THIS GAME.

The Graphics is fine but not enough for a AAA FPS game.

Characters's face sometime look like not match with the emotion of the voice-over. No chacracter in the game are memorable even the developer make flashback scenes. the gameplay is boring, repeat over and over. Stealth mode look like a joke for this game, maybe they want to copy wolfenstein 2 perharp. The AI is super

The AI is super stupid and dull some time even play in regular mode.

The developer still focus too much on Multiplayer more than Singleplayer. Campaign is short and no replay valuable.

Multiplayer mode is fine but feel like copy battlefield 1 concept in some point.

NAZI Zombie mode is simply copy treyach-style, boring and no reason to enjoy this.

Server are still not working sometime.

    My Score: 4/10.

    ANOTHER DISSAPOINTMENT FROM ACTIVITION.

This game takes all of the problems from previous COD titles and amplifies them. Ridiculous wait times, button functions not working (this is fixable), etc. The campaign is very meh, multiplayer is very unmemorable, and the nazi zombies is boring after playing it once, even zombies in space land was better.. I can't believe I spent $60 on this junk. It's worth half that at most. MayThis game takes all of the problems from previous COD titles and amplifies them. I wrote this review after attempting to play with a shotgun. I ran around a corner, fired into someone's head and didn't receive a hit marker before I was killed. Expand

Campaign player here. I felt like all the cool stories happened with World at War, and then they had to try and come up with other things that just weren't as interesting; too short. Also.. you play as a girl trying to deliver a briefcase for a level. The graphics were really nice though.

Would only recommend to people who haven't played cod for a while, i can honestly say i have seen Fifa change more than cod the last few years which shows how stale it is wait for the modern warfare 2 remaster or buy an older cheaper better cod.

now i have never played the game but all i am aware of is the poor map design, why is map design important you may ask, if the map you play is three lane garbage over and over again why would you play the map you wouldn't, almost every map in the game is three lanes three choices go middle go left go right, also unlike previous COD games they over use the invisible barriers i recall innow i have never played the game but all i am aware of is the poor map design, why is map design important you may ask, if the map you play is three lane garbage over and over again why would you play the map you wouldn't, almost every map in the game is three lanes three choices go middle go left go right, also unlike previous COD games they over use the invisible barriers i recall in black ops 2 that i could jump on what ever i wanted tanks cars ect, and if there were barriers they weren't that obvious or annoying, the game play is same old call of duty but more of a meat grinder where you die and the kill streaks are useless, in conclusion call of duty world war 2 is at best temporarily mediocre and will inevitably get repetitive. also microtransactions Expand

I really wanted CoD’s return to World War II to be something more than a solid game – but it’s not. I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’ve already seen all this, that the developers (or perhaps the publisher) chose to create something as safe as possible. There’s just one campaign mission that surprised me with its scale, the rest is just a disappointing “best of Call of Duty”. The multiplayer is as good as usual, but it was infused with unnecessary systems resembling mobile titles, e.g spending in-game currency on pointless tasks of the “kill 100 enemies” variety. Missions that make you watch other players open their loot boxes are the pinnacle of absurdity. [13/2017, p.64]

A solid return to its roots, Call of Duty WWII reminds us what made us all fall in love Call of Duty in the first place. It ticks all the boxes which is both a blessing and a curse. Good fun and worth your time but offers nothing exceptional.

Revitalised and exemplary FPS gaming. Multiplayer trims back to the essentials, campaign shows sensitivity and Zombies...well it's a new excuse to play CoD Zombies. [Christmas 2017, p.77]
