It's everything Dark Souls was, cranked up to 11. This is the best non-remake game on new gen yet. (The Last of Us was one of my favorite games of all time, however).

This is a system seller if there ever was one. Hard, but not in stupid ways. It challenges you to be better and you will, or you will die repeatedly.

This is an incredible game, however only specific gamers will appreciate it. The game is incredibly hard and demands a steep investment of game time in order to beat it (~40-60 hours).
So if you don't like very hard games that demand a lot of repetition and time, skip it. If you're open to it, you'll find an incredible game that's just a game of the year contender.

    Superb Game.
    Nothing comes close to this.
A Master Piece and a reference for all developers for all future Projects.
Highly Recommended and the ONLY game that justifies the purchase of a PS4.
Even if you're not in the Souls Series game, you owe it to yourself to experience Bloodborne.

Yep, this game is excellent. Nice work From Software.

Combat is a lovely upgrade over the previous souls games. I love how it turns the tables on speed and ferocity. The RPG elements are still there, but minimized -- really forcing you to focus on specializing with one or two particular weapons. keep 'em coming.

As in past Souls games combat is the meat and potatoes of the game and this game takes a more offensive game and makes it even more deadly. Your given everything you need to win and succeed and it's up to you to not screw it up. Mistakes, lack of discipline and ingenuity will get your character killed. The game has a gothic setting with horrific and twisted creatures all their to murder you, the game has creeped me out more than all the horror games like Silent Hill or Resident Evil ever did. Highly recommended for Souls fans and anyone who wants to try a modern rogue-like RPG. A hellish experienced not to be missed!

Pros - Everything. Combat, controls, music and even when failing....knowing the feeling that you can beat anything the game throws at you regardless. It keeps you playing.

Cons - The load screens are a bit of a letdown, hopefully a patch down the road can speed things up.

A little faster, a little more brutal, and a lot scarier. This game is amazing and operates on many different levels. From the more dynamic/aggressive combat to the Lovecraftian story, Bloodborne knocks it out of the park. Not for everyone but a good entry point for those with interest and large testicles.

I was truly surprised by how good this game is, albeit, I was expecting a much lesser game. The game is beautiful and the gameplay is a welcomed change from other games in the Souls series. The only issue that I have is the framerate, but it seems that From is working on an update to help this.

Maybe my opinion is blinded by the fact I'm a Demon's Souls absolute fan, but Bloodborne is the -almost-perfect game I was waiting for. Despite the PS4 haters' false-opinion, every single video-game enthusiast should try Bloodborne because it's really deep, awesome and unique nowadays.

Best FROM software title and that’s saying something. Nothing I can add that hasn’t been said before other than make sure you get the dlc as well - well worth it for the whirlygig alone.

If you’re a fan of the “souls” genre, this is worth buying a PS4/PS5 for. Here’s hoping for a remaster as It’s almost criminal this was never patched for PS Pro.

It has one of the worst tutorials (it is not showing you how to play that game, but showing you that you are not able to play this game). The story itself is pretty hidden somewhere deep in item descriptions and most of the time you are just guessing why are you killing everyone. (I really doubt normal players will understand the story without reading theories on the internet) And fighting system feels little bit strange. Especially because how the hitboxes works. There is basically no physical hit detection. Luckily it does not mean you will get hit even when you see enemy miss. But your enemy will miss you many time when he is directly hitting you or stopmping you (specially bosses). This feels very last gen, it is not intuitive (you must learn, than when you are rolling you are safe even if you get direct hit, etc.) and gets some time to get used to.

So why gieve it a 10/10? Simple. Despite all these shortcomings, the game is amazing fun to play. Gameplay is solid. Leveldesign is the best I have ever seen (not just art style, but the layout full of shortcurst and branching paths = nonlinear progress) and it is just delight to explore them. The lenght is higly above todays average. You will spent maybe more that 30 hours of concentrated fun (there are no blank filler parts. every room presents some kind of fun and challenge).

And the difficulty. It is not so bad. As I mentioned the tutorial is bad. So at the beggining you will think "this game is impossible to play". But when you learn it a little bit (dont be afraid of multiplayer!!!), it can be actually become too easy.

Bllodborne is definetlly not a perfect flawless gem. But it is definetly a must buy and will provide you huge amount of entertainment.

Bloodborne is a game that assumes the player is a normal, thinking and learning human being. One that does not need excessive hand holding and guidance through the mundane elements often presented in games. It shoves the player into the deep end of the pool and lets you learn as you play. The enemies hit hard so you need to hit back harder. With this mechanic you have a chance to gain some of the lost health back, which creates an approach opposite of Demon's Souls. It doesn't mean you can be careless, just that you cannot rely totally on previous ways to play a From Software game blocking with a shield. The variety of the enemy characters, be they man or beast, is extensive and they all have unique fighting style that forces the player to learn and adapt. This does not mean that Bloodborne is overtly difficult, only that the player is expected to think a bit more than normal. Playing tired e,g, leads to cheap deaths as one cannot think straight and play becomes sloppy.

Level design is layered and multiple paths open up as you walk along Yharnam. The way this mechanic is designed is genious as the more you play and the more you die, the more you learn the layout of the game. And you have to learn as there is no map to guide you. Only you. As there is plenty to explore, you might miss a place here and there, but the game keeps you somewhat contained in the areas you need to explore. Boss fights usually opening up new areas to explore further. And what a delightful bunch they are. Each boss has their on way of fighting which either is clear at the first sight or takes a lot of tries to learn. But the same theme of learning lets you beat each and every one of them eventually through trial and error if necessary. The bosses scale slightly to your level so if you lose, and you will lose often, it is your approach that needs tweaking, not the stats that of your character has. You might yell at the screen a few times, but once you get the boss, the feeling of accomplishment is present. Learning is an clear and essential theme in the game. This design decision is ever present and given to you as tiny tips by the game. You never know what a weapon or items do unless you test and try. Nothing is explicitly stated. That is one of the charms of the game as you progress. The player starts to discuss with friends of the experiences and items. "What do they do? did you do that?" type is evident on forum topics regarding the games. And I do recommend skipping them and experiencing everything yourself first hand and asking questions when you get stuck.

Bloodborne is a long game, clocking in around 50 hours for the first play through depending on your style, so the variety of places and enemies is essential. This is where the game shines. Even though the setting is a overall the same Victorian style nightmare, it still changes in style multiple times. Every new setting will be memorable and connects in some way to others. And the variety of the enemies is the same as they change accordingly. As an interesting element, there is the Insight factor, a point system accumulated by discovering and defeating bosses or gulping potions, which will affect the games difficulty and other elements by scaling up or down. Enemies in the visibly changed world become stronger, look and act differently or might change spots or disappear totally. This makes experiencing the game a bit different for each player, so you might not encounter as easy enemies or bosses as you friend might have.

The weapons in the game are what defines you style from heavy to fast. Most have both with a click of a button to change your style, but some weapons are more effective for certain enemies. Upgrading and implementing gems in the weapons or runes for one the character is what enhances and improves your chance of survival. A sidearm in the form of a pistol is offered which often staggers enemies enough to create a devastating blow. For this reason, experimenting with your weapon attacks in addition to your sidearm as well as movement is key. You find and learn new ways to defeat even strong enemies with a quick combo.

On a technical level it looks the part. There is clearly love spent on creating the game aesthetics. There is a micro-stutter from time to time with a distinct accompanying buzz from your speakers which should be fixed, but overall the game runs and feels great. As of note I have not tried and co-operative play and there should be strong drops with many friends, so lets hope From Software fixes those mistakes.

As I've only played Demon's Souls a long time ago, I was excited to try a similar game. I wanted a game that entertains me for a long period of time and what I got from Bloodborne is a game that is exciting, atmospheric, riveting, engaging, smart, creepy and satisfying. I truly believe any gamer should give it a try as this will be a classic people talk about years later. 2015 is still early but I expect this game to be GOTY for many.

You cannot just rush in and kill things unwittingly. It's a game where risk vs reward is off the charts, where you simply cannot afford to be complacent of cocky at any time, especially if there are hordes of enemies running at you, or during intense boss fights or you will be punished.

When you die after a long run without reaching the insanely sparse 'save points', the game makes you want the earth to open up and swallow you. It's a painful experience but when you make it through, it's an overwhelming sense of catharsis and relief after a gut wrenching period.

The atmosphere is also unbelievable, and it ties in beautifully with the unsettling gothic surroundings. You will jump out of your skin on several occasions when the game tricks you into thinking you're safe, but you seldom are.

This game is free with PS Plus. I was in the middle of playing finishing my Mass Effect 3 playthrough when this interrupted it and the controller has been fused to my hand since. Get this game without hesitation.

These problems are just blemishes to an overall incredible game! (Finally, a universally agreed killer app for the system!) Expand

What sets it apart from the older games aside from the faster gameplay is the lack of shield and its emphasis on counters. In the past, countering/parry/riposte was optional, in this game, it is almost a must to master this mechanic.
I did feel the environment to be kind of monotone, but it was intended and majority of players loved the atmosphere. I loved it too but I do miss the occasional serenity and melancholy feels Dark Souls gave off (Anor Londo for example).

I was never a fan of the Souls series so I was very hesitant to get this game. Thankfully, most of my problems with the previous games are absent in Bloodborne. My main gripe with the Souls games was the lumbering, slow, defense focused combat. In Bloodborne this has been completely redone into a fast, fluid and graceful system that encourages offense and taking risks. My other issue with the Souls series was a generally dated and empty feel to the design and environment. Once again, Bloodborne trumps it's predecessors and creates a living, detailed world that feels natural and exciting to explore. Now to the big point, the difficulty. In the Souls games, dying often felt unfair or forced upon you. Penalties for death were too severe and intentionally sadistic. In Bloodborne when I died, I knew it was my fault. It was either because I'd done something wrong or not been careful not because the game was artificially handicapping me by taking away my health. People complaining about the difficulty (or leaving bad reviews but not mentioning it because they don't want to sound like the suck) probably aren't playing it right. The keys are to explore everywhere, open shortcuts to find your way back faster the next time you die and to return to the Hunter's Dream frequently to buy supplies, upgrade your weapons and level up. Getting your first set of armor can vastly improve your survival chances so just kill enough enemies to afford it, then go back. If you just keep dying, you'll never accrue enough blood echoes to buy anything.

There are some minor technical issues with the game. Framerate can take a hit here and there and the camera isn't always in the most optimal position. The biggest controversy is with the load times but I hardly noticed them. Most of the time if just suffered a vicious defeat and my mind was busy planning my next strategy.

So, as someone who didn't like the Souls series, I can wholeheartedly recommend Bloodborne. Definitely one of the best PS4 exclusives if not one of the best current gen games available.

Story is at most a little vague but its basically you are a outsider that got captured, you wind up being experimented on and you turn out a Hunter. Then you're whole reason to play is to kill stuff and hunt.
And killing stuff never felt so good! The extreme joy of defeating a boss in this game is second to none!
There is of course a big learn by trying here so don't get discouraged if you die 9 times in a row on the same enemy
Weapons are the igh point in this game and i friggen love them, its so damn cool that each weapon has a second form and its definitely something we have not seen in a game before.
Graphics are amazing and the setting is dark and grim like a heavy metal band cover.

Now unfortunately there are some frame rate issues but they are not that big, and thankfully never show up while fighting any enemies. The load time can be a pain as well but as long as you never die you won see them that often hehe. But in no way is as bad as people say. Kids these days are just to impatient.

Overall this game is a must buy for any souls or hardcore player, and i would say also a must for any ps4 owner, The difficulty might discourage some gamers but don't fret fight through it and and im sure you will find a game worth the hours.

From the outset you should be aware that Bloodborne first and foremost takes the template from before and puts it into a new 'set of clothes' as it were, whilst twisting it, and inventing some ingenious new rules.

Presentation is a little bit of a mixed-bag; the issues that plagued the previous games (wierd ragdoll physics and a slightly iffy framerate at times), coupled with slightly long loading times, and a need to drop the player into the game without a proper explanation of the mechanics, can turn potential newcomers off. And for a moment there at the beginning, you may just wonder if this is what the power of the PS4 is all about?

Okay, that's the bad points out of the way - now lets focus on the good!!

The world you are in is MASSIVE, and is clearly the star of the show!! It is by far the biggest world in any of these games, and there is so much to discover that it becomes the biggest antagonist of the game by far. Its a beautifully created world, so staggering in its detail and devastating art, that you forgive the loading times and the framerate, because its clearly apparent that the power of the PS4 has been used not for dynamic gimmicks or 'showboating', but genuinely for the purpose of realising a vision, and not compromising. Coupled with enemies that are equally as well thought-out, you

The music is beautiful, and the sound effects are breathtaking, not only in how they relate to the atmosphere (and in ways you'd never expect - I'll never turn my back on a rat EVER AGAIN!!), but they telegraph events to you, providing a dimension that I've mentioned before, and no doubt has been criminally overlooked - the fact that the sound provides the extra dimension, as it were.

The gameplay on the surface has been overhauled too, and the combat is different in its implementation, but has a satisfaction all of its own. The game also harbours a depth that was last seen in Demon's Souls, that like an iceberg is much more under the surface than you'd think. Its gripping in the ways of an action game, yet the strategies and the adventure/role play elements infect enough to provoke dare I say it - an addiction to the game? Certainly!!

Bloodborne should not be approached if you think that you're going to be washed in the latest greatest technical masterpiece to be lauded-over, it is not that game. What it is however is a game that if you let it, will grip you from the very beginning, and will probably never leave you.

For the count, I say give it a chance at the very least, it deserves that. If you missed Demon's Souls (and many did), give it a chance, it will suprize you.

I'm on my NG+2 at the moment and still going (82 hours of play). The combat is just such a joy that as with Dark Souls 1 it's not about completing the game once and leaving it, you only get to a really capable level after your first play-through.

Multiplayer's excellent, my personal preference is getting to the end of the game (almost, so all the levels are unlocked) then helping other players out with boss battles but you can go for PVP if that's your preference.

Too much to mention really but the idiots on here giving this a 0 are obviously just haters that bought a X1.... What a stupid choice you made, next time pay attention to what's going on in the industry instead of just buying what you think has a big name. Anyone that paid even the slightest bit of attention could see that X1 was trash and Microsoft are the evil empire.

    Poor misguided fools.

As for the people that made the right choice, rejoice: This is the first 5 star title of the new generation. It's about damn time too. This is BY FAR the weakest generation of games in the history of gaming.

Besides that: Bloodborne is more accessible than the Souls games but still really challenging.

The combat offers a great risk & reward system due to it's lack of defensive options like heavy shields or armor and even though this feels pretty strange in the beginning, you get use to it pretty fast. And when you face one of the first two bosses you realize, that you have to go with the now combat flow - and that it's awesome! Rushing around the battlefield, poking and dodging your enemy feels pretty rewarding and makes a lot of fun.

Graphics are great and really atmospheric, some minor framedrops sometimes annoy a bit, but besides that everything is fine.

There are not as many weapons but the "few" you've got are absolutely great. Every weapon has two modes which you can choose and which give them another feel to it but the weapons itself are pretty creative and different and offer a lot of different playstyles.

There is so much more I could say, since I'm playing it since Saturday, but only that much: Bloodborne is the first game of this gen, that doesn't only fulfill it's promises, it even surpasses them. Besides the rare framedrops and the long loading times (up to 30-40secs, sometimes) there is not much bad to say about Bloodborne. The first GOTY candidate and definately worth a look, at least.

The story, which is told in a very subtle fashion similar to other FROM SOFTWARE games, is deep and rich and is told through multiple methods. The world feels alive. Its as if you are trapped in the mind of Edgar Allen Poe during a nightmare of opium induced terror. The game functions a bit like survival horror in that items are limited and can become scarce while in the filed. The combat is precise and response and happens at a break neck pace. The most significant issues are the loading screen times, making the inability to succinctly fast travel a huge burden and immersion breaking. Frame rate drops happen at times and can really affect game play, particularly in online sessions of cooperative play or PvP.

If you have any interest in Bloodborne I highly recommend purchasing it.

GRAPHICS: Truly the best looking game on the PS4 to date. Incredible detail and textures, the application of cloth physics is amazing, lighting is superb and its a joy to look at.

SOUND: With only the occasional drop in audio while playing online and a few distance to reception quirks, the sound is fantastic.

SOUNDTRACK: Amazing, simply amazing. One of the best and most atmospheric soundtracks in any game.

VOICE ACTING: The voice acting is perfect, well written dialogue that is consistently delivered well.

STORY: One could play the entire game and only taste a portion of the story if they just want action or you can delve deep into the game and explore every nook and cranny for details. Told in a subtle manner with amazing side quests, the story telling is amazing. Exceptionally well written and well told without many cut scenes. This is some of the strongest story telling yet in gaming.

GAME PLAY: The game play is amazingly well crafted. The combat is tough, fair and fast with even the simplest of enemies able to exploit a mistake and capitalize on others that follow if you don't recover well. The rally mechanic, a form of limited duration regain, can make you reckless and will kill you, but if done well can make the difference between life and death. The ability to instantly store items when you are full is brilliant and allows for farming of needed items and materials when they get scarce. The refilling of needed items on death from your storage keeps you in the game and willing to take another run at the level.

GAME DESIGN: The level design is truly remarkable. Secret paths, interesting traps, interconnected and winding levels with adequate lantern (save points) sites creates a feeling of tension and urges you to explore more so you can find that next shortcut. One of the best designed games in a long time. However the choice to always require a return to the Hunters Dream Refuge (hub) and not allow fast travel between check points, coupled with unbearably long loading screens is mystifying choice. This is the only real ding I have for this game. Otherwise I find the title immensely compelling.

MULTI-PLAYER: Frame rate drops happen later in the game and particularly during online play. This and the loading screens and limited fast travel need to be addressed. Otherwise the cooperative play and PvP is really well executed and a joy to participate in.

I bought a PS4 specifically to play this game, and it was worthy pretty much every penny. The Chalice Dungeons are repetitive and tedious, and the Micolash fight is terrible, but everything else greatly makes up for it.

Couple that with thrilling combat, pulse pounding suspense and some of the most atmospheric level design you have ever seen and you have what i describe as the perfect game.

It is of course not literally perfect - there is some quality of life stuff here that is lacking - but as far as the game world is concerned, Fromsoft have outdone themselves. If you're reading this in 2022 or after, do not hesitate. Bloodborne is ageless.

The only thing that kept me from tossing in the towel was reports of finding that threshold across which the scales tip and progress through this marvelously crafted gothic world gains momentum. I found it...and crossed it...and am glad I pushed my poor little ADD-impaired attention span long enough to discover the "why" of how beloved this game is to those already familiar with the magic of the Dark Souls series. I embraced the repetitive deaths.....the absurd distances between "check points"....the dismay of having one's carefully horded stash of blood echoes vanish time and again. The whole brutal process seems "bone building" in a way that's a new experience for this casual gamer. For those cut from similar cloth who've been flirting with thoughts of picking this one up, I say do it and give it time. When the scales do tip, it's glorious :) Expand

This might be the greatest "Souls" series game yet. It's marred by a few minor technical issues like loading times and framerates, but the environments and combat are so god damn enticing that you quickly forget they exist. The new mechanics are fantastic, I honestly don't know what to even complain about. Best killer app this generation so far, by far.

It's one of best games i ever played, not perfect 100/100 of course, but why i have to care? Art style is my top, my favourite dark/gothic/victorian etc mix. Awesome music and atmosphere. Very demanding but rewarding gameplay. From technical site it's not Decima engine level, but amount of details mixed with design creates beautiful setting.
It's one of those games i will remember forever.

The exploration is highly satisfying and memorable, there is never a dull or boring moment that you'll have, and you'll always remember on how to navigate your way through places that you've been before with ease without a map.

One false move and then you're most likely about to die or get seriously injured. The combat is brutal and quick, like you won't be seeing a beast waiting in line for his turn to attack, they're all going to strike! The penalty for dying is that you would lose all of your blood echoes, which is like currency that you use to buy equipment or to level up. The only way to retrieve it back is to journey back to where you last died or kill the beast that had killed you or the one that has his or her eyes glowing white for you're blood back, but if you die a 2nd time without getting it then you had just lost it, but can still retrieve the amount that you last had.

The only issues that I have seen were monsters glitching themselves in obstacles, nothing to game breaking. Anything else would be at your own fault..

If you're a hardcore gamer looking for a game on the Ps4, then I would highly recommend for you to play Bloodborne!

This one is a long time coming, a very unnecessary review, and probably incredibly biased. But, whatever, I can't help it...

Let's start off by saying that I only ever got to play this game a year and some change after its release. I never had a PS4 around its launch, and everyone was talking about this new Sony exclusive that came from the minds behind Demon's Souls and Dark Souls 1 (two games I have a very high respect and love for, with the latter formerly taking up the number 2 spot on my favorite games list of all time.). So, the anticipation for this grungy, gothic, action-RPG adventure with an emphasis on horror was nigh unbearable. And once I finally did play it, oh wow...

Gameplay: If anyone's a fan of the "Souls" style of gameplay, then this has it as a standard, but there are a few twists and changes that expertly transform it into an aggressive fight for survival. Weapons, though limited in quantity, are unique, varied, relatively swift to utilize, and always have the ability to transform into something brutal, setting up for impressive combos in a way that hasn't really been attempted in the FromSOFT Souls series before or since. Sidearms have a satisfying kick to them, and all have their pros and cons, but all demand a try to see if they suite your playstyle. Enemies are varied and vicious from the mundane to the grotesque. Bosses are monumental events of pure terror (aside from maybe one boss battle). And even after you've scoured and picked clean the main game and the DLC, there's still the randomly generated Chalice Dungeons if you want a little extra challenge and bang for your buck. This isn't even talking about the still very much alive multiplayer scene. Hell, even if you can't get a session started with a random, you can always call up your buddies, set up a password system, and go from there! Bloodborne has its variety in such a simple and rock solid way.

Story: Like all FromSOFT "Souls" games, the basic story is simple, but the devil is in the details. You are a sick outsider, trying to find a cure for an unknown illness you have, finding your way to Yharnam, a "city of healing". However, in order to get into the city and even have a chance to be cured, you must join "The Hunt". Once given a blood transfusion as your initiation, the nightmare begins, and it's your task to solve the city's secrets, and survive. From the visual aspects of the game, to NPC chatter, right to item descriptions, you'll be learning far more about this land of terror than you'd ever want to know.

Visuals: The whole world is this beautiful symphony of Victorian Gothic and Lovecraftian horror, highly and disgustingly detailed with all sorts of nuances that paints a very vivid and very disturbing picture of a city with a miracle cure gone wrong. It will all seem relatively classic and tame at first, but the further you dive in, the more twisted and maddening the world becomes, and every local will hit you with some unexpected and recognizable (and sometimes strangely beautiful) design inspired by various subgenres to horror, and keep you immersed even as your slaying bloodsoaked monsters. If you aren't a fan of horror, then this may just steer you away from the get go... With all this said, there are a few visual bugs that attempt to pull you from the immersion, but they are few and far between and not THAT big of an issue.

Final: Dark Souls 1 was my second favorite game of all time, for its open ended story telling, satisfying gameplay, and interesting locals. However, from the moment I played this game to the time I put it down for a short time, Bloodborne has long since taken that spot, blowing it away in nearly every category, and injected itself into my life and the lives of millions of players around the world. It is one HELL of a game, and perhaps the best survival horror action RPG you'll ever play (as if there are many that would even attempt and successfully execute such a tricky balance).

Oh, and if you're an old school gamer and loved Nightmare Creatures back in the N64/PS1 era, this game is also for you.

Worst part was that instead of making the areas a risk vs reward and seeing how far you can push.. they turned it into a grind fest so they will stop respawning after a while. All this had me really worried.

Thank god the original director came back and threw out all the BS I mentioned above and made an already awesome combat system even better!

Literally everything in Bloodborne was epic.. level design, weapon system and dual weapon combos! Armor style = Epic!

The World of Bloodborne literally had me wanting to explore more and more.. I wanted to just play for an hour and ended up being like 6 or 7 and only knew that when the wife came over and yelled at me for being on to long!

My literal only complaint is that it had less weapons and armor than dark souls 2 and less covenants to join. The weapons and armor are epic but I was just wanting more since dark souls 2 had so many. For the covenants, I didn't like how you can just swap a rune to show your allegiance and it's literally for pvp only except for some armor.

Other than that, if you haven't already left for Gamestop or Best Buy to purchase this game... you're wrong.. you literally must buy it.. best game in Years!!!

Brutally difficult is a good way to describe the challenge imposed by this title, it is a From Software title, after all. I've played each game starting with "Demons Souls" and while "Dark Souls 2" was slightly less challenging than the truly difficult "Dark Souls" that trend is reversed with "Bloodborne". I really enjoy a lot of the changes- the setting being first and foremost. This is a Gothic title with a setting similar to "Dracula" the novel- Victorian, dark, dingy but also beautifully rendered.

The Souls games were always some of the sharpest looking on PS3 and "Bloodborne" continues this trend on PS4. The combat is faster and more fluid which at first is very challenging even for vets (the lack of good shields ramps up the difficulty curve greatly) but the ability to dodge is more intuitive when locked on to a target. Dodge will be your friend in this game as just like other Souls games the monsters are all deadly and the bosses are even deadlier. Also with other Souls games the environment presents its own hazards so suffice to say you will die....often.

With any Souls game though the point isn't how often you die but what you learn from the experience and "Bloodborne" rewards persistence. Another great change is healing items are once again easier to come by and you can actually recoup a certain amount of life that is taken away by an enemy striking you if you're quick enough. This may make "Bloodborne" on its face seem easier than previous incarnations but it really isn't- the enemies are a lot tougher this time around, even the weaker enemies aren't pushovers like previous versions. This game is definitely worth getting if you can handle repeated failure and don't mind a challenge. It's beautiful to look at, has great atmosphere and lighting, the enemies are well made and the action is fierce. Or to be a little shorter, if you're reading this review and remain unconvinced, go out and buy the game right now.
