You can describe this game easily with two phrases:

Immersive, emotional storytelling: The way the story is told and the emotional world of the main protagonist is kept into the world of bits and bytes is stunning and it really touches you! Some Question will be never answered and the way the game brings this into the charakter and the world of the game is outstanding! Awful

Awful gameplay mechanics and poor engineering

The most annoying thing of the game is simply that you can not run - like - never! there are some parts with riddles where you have to move back and forth a few times and doing this in walking pace is nearly a dealbreaker because it annoys the hell out of who ever is sitting in front of the screen.

The second downside, and by far the biggest one, is the loading screen that pops up everytime you change a scene. And it stays there for proper 30 seconds or more.

In such a game with minor enviroments/scenes and a emotional story that lives from smooth transistions and a seamless experience it hurts to play it like this. Everytime the game gets really emotional a loading screen is waiting for you just to kick you back in reality and out of the immersion.

It ruined a lot of this game for me. But all in all the story, the charakters and the way it is represented and how it builds up is written in such a unique and impressiv way, that i still would recommend this game!

There is a difference between gameplay and busywork, and this game doesn't know it. Also, Finn is a bit of a jerk.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Quick background on me the reviewer, I tend to like single player games that is heavy on narrative the most. I also play a lot of racing games and use to play multiplayer games in my high school days but now that it's hard for me and my friends to find a good time to link up so now it’s rarer for me to get into a multiplayer game. Up to try any genre of games and sometimes I find something new that I didn't think I'd like. I own a PC (built by me), Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, PS3, PS4, PS5, and a Switch. I prefer Playstation due to their focus on narrative games. For scoring, I’ll be using the Gameinformer review scale and of course influenced by my personal opinions.

    (7) Average. The game’s feature may work, but are nothing that even causal players haven’t seen before.

There isn't much to this game in relation to gameplay. It's a walking simulator that you play as a sibling of Finn and you guide him into excepting his death and to move on. If your looking for an emotional story then give it a try but beware you can't even run in this game, very little game mechanics.

With what seems like a new narrative adventure popping up every week, Blackwood Crossing is stuck in the middle — it’s not great enough to recommend, but not bad enough to write off. It’s just an average title with a few moments of beauty peering over the edges of its mediocrity.

An admirable effort that just falls short. [Issue#187, p.79]

This bittersweet narrative adventure will play your heartstrings like a fiddle. [June 2017, p.87]
