    It's almost like developer Hapa Games had two really cool ideas and tried to integrate them both into Ascendant, with mixed results. At times it has flashes of brilliance with its focus on raw skill and combat, and others, it feels like you're just aimlessly wandering another barren landscape, in search of a rush.

    Ascendant bears its brutal difficulty proudly, but the shallow hack-and-slash action and random, unbalanced weapon and upgrade drops will leave you dreaming of better roguelikes.

    Imagine, if you will; Guacamelee fused with The Binding of Isaac. Sounds pretty damn great right? WELL IT IS. Great combat elements along with procedural floor generation and a decent loot system makes Ascendant incredibly re-playable.

    TL-DR: Get this game now.

    Wow, this game is so fun. It reminds me of old games that were harder than games these days. This game has thrown me several good surprises.Wow, this game is so fun. It reminds me of old games that were harder than games these days. This game has thrown me several good surprises. Every time you play is a different story, because the levels are randomized, which includes the powers and weapons you come across while playing. it's great fun discovering new powers and new ways to waste enemies with them, as well as combo them off eachother. Bosses are really hard and many of them took several tries to formulate a strategy to beat them. Permadeath may scare away many players, but I urge you to give this a try regardless. The replay value is so good that you'll find yourself going back again and again to try to beat it.… Full Review »
