A biblical poetry in game form, this remake improved the game in every aspect. The songs are epic, action is valued by level design, and the tower defense parts are a refreshment for the context.

Actraiser is timeless, but not for superficial players and without any gamistic underpinnings, just try.

    28 hours into the game.
If you’re a fan there are things here that work! They added story, quests and more cause to go into the 2D action sequences.
The Hard Fail: the added Tower Defense is flawed at its core. Do not think the team that made this ever played a Tower defense game in their life. At first it seems fine but late in the game is a different story. Random placement, limited

Absolutely love it. It’s been given some quality of life enhancements and it plays great.

Can't play it as, on my ps5, the 2D platform section run with the most insane stutters I never saw in decades ! It's like 10 fps to me ! Unplayable..

Well, I couldn't get the motivation to go to the end. I think the enhancements will be welcomed by some, but I think I liked the original version better without the expanded civilization stuff. It was a great and unique game then, but these days we have a lot more quality indie titles to expand our horizons with.

Actraiser Renaissance remains true to the cult original with plenty of novelties that do not disturb the essence of this strange title from the very beginning of a completely crazy story called Quintet studio.

Actraiser Renaissance is a very worthy remake, but one that is far from perfect. It starts slow and it's very tutorial heavy. You expect more speed in a title from the 16-bit era, but this is not the case. If you can handle the beginning, you are going to find a very entertaining game with platforming and tower defense strategy elements.

There's a generous amount of content, which at 20 hours is four times the completion size of the original. Since this retro remake is a game of three thirds, it'd be a disservice if followers of the original lost faith from initial impressions of the unsightly side-scrolling action, and an overly gabby god game. Yet, fans won't be on cloud nine if a lack of support towards Actraiser Renaissance discourages Square Enix from being devoted to ActRaiser as a promising series.
